Default Muggle Studies Lesson One- Tooting Your Own Horn!

Coming down to the end of October, the weather was bond to get a tad cold, a warning sign that the full blast of winter would be upon them all soon. It was for this reason that she had taken care to make sure that there was complete warmth circulating in her classroom. If any of the kiddos felt the need to wear extra layers of clothing then by all means they were quite free to.

This was not the first lesson she would be teaching after the events of last term and though they had went off fairly well, Kay was still worried about one of the more fiery kiddos giving her sass or disrupting the lesson. She didn't think she had the energy to defend herself anymore and it was for this reason that she had become withdrawn and unlike the cheery and bright person that she had been.

As it was, today the woman was seated at her desk. Though today's lesson was already planned completely, she was drafting a plan for her upcoming one. It was always best to be prepared. Once you enter the classroom, you may take a seat at one the combination desks. Taped to the whiteboard, is a chart displaying the various methods of transportation used by muggles. Air, land and sea methods were all covered.

With a little nip in the air, Septimus had added his scarf on top of his uniform for making his way through the stone halls. Though he was grateful to see the usual care in the classroom as he walked in, an added comfort of spelled warmth. Thankfully professors tended to agree that frostbitten students didn’t always work so well in lessons…most of the time.

“Good morning, Professor,” he greeted the Muggle Studies professor with a smile. Her classes always seemed fun, the subject once taught by his mother, though he had noticed the change in her personally. Likely having to do with the stories he had heard all about last term that involved the woman the controlled students. Septimus himself hadn’t felt worried around her, but he was watchful just in case whenever he sat down in class like now. He had managed to hear a few tales of Hogwarts when his mum had taught here.

SPOILER!!: Quinn!

Quinn was wearing a dress, light grey and spattered with little red embers that seemed to glow like fire whenever the fabric shifted. Over this she wore a small grey jacket. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail, and she was wearing the earrings her Dad got her at the end of summer. The earrings had started off as silver wands dangling from white sapphire studs, but upon her sorting, the wands took on a distinctly bronze sheen and the white diamond-like sapphires shifted to the deep blue color that everyone associates with the term 'sapphire.'

The warmth in the Muggle Studies classroom was welcomed.

As was Quinn's nature in every class, she said nothing upon entering the classroom. Her eyes flicked to the whiteboard, studying the chart taped on it for a long moment. Then she took a seat. This, however, was different than her norm in other classes. Instead of taking a seat in the middle, Quinn took one in the very back, and not too far from the door. She'd heard plenty about Professor Stewart, and as a pureblood witch in a long prominent pureblood family, Quinn wasn't going to take any chances. First sign of pureblood serial killer wannabe Professor Stewart, and she'd be up and out the door in the blink of an eye.

Once settled into her seat, Quinn pulled out her quill, ink and some parchment, and her wand, and set them on her desk, each one perfectly ready to be used. Then she turned her eyes upon Professor Stewart, simply watching and appraising and calculating.

Ah, it was that time already; the time where the kiddos started to show up. Kay looked up from her notebook to see first year Quinnlin arriving. It always seemed to be a trend- with her lessons at least- that first years were almost always the first to get there. She always attributed it to them being eager to learn. Not being greeted in no way offended Kay; Quinn was usually like that. "Wand away please,'' was all she said when she noticed the magical apparatus.

SPOILER!!: Reese

His jumper being stuffed into his bag as he entered the classroom.

" Hello, Professor.. Looking at modes of transport today are we?.. ", as always stating the obvious. After all.. She'd written up a chart on the white board for Godric's sake..

Lalalala... He saw his best friend Quinn already in a seat.. These desks sucked.. They made chatting with your neighbor cumbersome... Boo!..Seriously, if he hadn't have already seen her sitting there he'd have sat down with a heavy sigh.. Instead, this little red headed muppet baby sidled on over to the desk bedside her and slid into the chair portion of his desk.. " Heya, Quinnie.. ", the first year not so friendly badger said with a grin.. " If we need to pair up, wanna work together?."

Yup!.. Reese Prichard was calling DIBBS!

What a fun rule Regina and Charles had come up with, allowing a sort of casual Fridays. Still, she was always scrutinising to ensure the kiddos wore appropriate clothing. "Good morning, Mr Prichard. I suppose we are.'' Her head bent over the book again but she couldn't block out Quinn's and Reese's conversation- they were the only two there aside from her and the classroom was rather quiet. Kay looked up to see a blushing Reese which made her arch an eyebrow. ''Pre- teen crushes,'' she thought to herself.

SPOILER!!: Maddie!

So despite the fact that the subject wasn't her favorite, the third year was in good spirits as she entered the class.

"Hello, Professor!" she said, giving the woman a cheerful greeting. Maddie noted the warmth of the area and was appreciative of whatever it was the professor had done. As she took a seat, Maddie glanced up at the board. Muggle transportation. In a way, Maddie always wanted to fly in an airplane, but it just seemed so much slower than any magical way she could think of.

"Hello to you as well, Ms. Kemp,'' the professor stated with a frown. Oh, it wasn't a frown directed at Maddie but at rather the idea she had just written. Now that she was thinking more about the idea, it seemed ridiculous.

SPOILER!!: Lyn!

I trust you are well.” She merrily greeted as she made her way to a desk towards the front of the room.

She quietly placed her supplies on her desktop, keeping a blank page and pen on top for easy note taking. Her eyes drifted towards the board and noticed all kinds of fun vehicles. She hoped they would be talking about motorcycles. Those were her favorite. She loved the pbbbbb pbbbbb sound they made and the roar of the engine as they flew down the road. It was the closest thing to flying on a broom that she had experienced as a child.

There was that chirpy, cheery voice that Kay would recognise anywhere. Yet she didn't look up from her book. "Good morning, Ms Walsh. I am.'' Saying that she was well came naturally these days, no matter how far it was from the truth.

SPOILER!!: Eria!

What she did like about being here...she didn't have to wear robes. Instead, she sported jeans, brown boots, and a white and blue thermal henley. Far more comfortable, so this class scored for comfort by far.

Looking over at the professor, the lanky snake gave her a polite head nod in greeting then made her way to her seat.

She liked the very back of the classroom...but after she saw Oompa Loompa and Tweetless Bird making smiley faces at each other, she decided to pick the other side of the back of the room. No sense in disrupting if Tweet wasn't hating life.

Kay had scratched out her ridiculous idea and looked up as Eria walked in. She inclined her head in way of returning the greeting.

SPOILER!!: Chloe! Pretty siggie there, Ern.

"Good day, Professor." Chloe paused, wondering why the professor didn't seem herself at all. "Are you feeling well today, ma'am?" She moved toward a seat.

Was Chloe into modes of transportation? Kay didn't mind it one bit that the girl was examining the chart so closely. "Hello, Ms Kettleburn. I'm doing alright.''

SPOILER!!: Ewan!

Walking into the classroom, he couldn't help but smile at Professor Stewart! "Hey Professor! Hope your well today." Ewan couldn't help but notice she didn't quite seem herself. Hopefully his chipper attitude would cheer her up ever so slightly. He at least, was ready to sit and learn, despite his obvious muggle background.

Spotting Quinn and Ewan, he quietly moved to the opposite side of the class to them. That was one pair he did not fancy sitting close to today. Sitting down now, he lowered his rucksack to the floor before finally pulling his quill and parchment. Silently, he pulled out one of his many muggle note pads and Biro pens. Resting his head on the table, he let his hand doodle away in his note pad, patiently waiting for the lesson to begin.

Yet another happy kiddo. It was quite refreshing as always to see this type of attitude. "Good day, Mr. Jones. I am.'' It was safe to say that there were even the first years that noticed her mood. Plus they had probably heard of her actions from last term.

SPOILER!!: Patrick!

He felt terrible for everyone involved in the incidents because most of them didn’t even know what was going on around them.

Slipping into a seat part of the way into the room, he noticed the board, muggle transportation. He had a love hate relationship with that. Nodding at each of the people already sitting in the classroom. Whipping out a piece of paper he grabbed one of the pens from his backpack that happened to have his favorite baseball team on it, a piece of home that he was unwilling to get rid of when he came to Hogwarts. Quickly jotting down, dreaded modes of muggle transportation... don’t take the bus

Glancing up, he was going to wait patiently to start the lesson because he thoroughly enjoyed muggle studies.

"Hello, Mr. Dooley. It's always great to see you as well.'' Not just during her lessons but running into him around the Castle as well.

SPOILER!!: BatRonan!

The badge remained, as required (the dark colored shirt making it stick out more), as did the black colored pants and black dress shoes. "Hello, Professor Stewart," he greeted as he entered the classroom and chose a seat towards the front. Not to antagonize but as a sort of show of support, as if to say 'hey, if I can get over the last couple of terms you can too' to his classmates.

Also, Ronan was really looking forward to showing off his knowledge this lesson.

Kay thought that Ronan looked rather sharp in his method of dressing today. It was a suitable look for the Head Boy. She also thought that the two of them had come a bit of a way in getting over whatever had happened in the past few terms. At least on her part, she held no grudge. "Good day, Mr. Carter.''

SPOILER!!: Fly Eater xD Brody made me type that.

She’d gotten the shirt while visiting thrift stores with her cousin over summer…it was nice and of course the man that was with her had told her all about the band.

She had simply enjoyed the look, the shirt really. ”Hey Quinnybear” she waved to her best friend before turning and toward Reese, ”Hey Undercover Snakeboy” she winked over to Reese before simply sending Emmalyn and Evan waves as means of greeting.

”Hello Professor Stewart,” Beth smiled toward the Professor as she made her way toward her seat right next to Quinn. She too, of course, had heard the stories even if her own mother had said it wasn’t Professor Stewart’s fault…the little snake couldn’t help but be wary. Beth just watched Reese for a moment and couldn’t help but smirk, ”couple up will you?” she asked raising an eyebrow at the redhead ”I’ll support that,” she added before giving him an extra-long look so he knew she wasn’t simply talking about the group work. Her little sassing had made her forget to send Eria a wave, but that wasn't on purpose. Not in the least.

"Hello to you too, Ms Greyvson.'' Was it bad that Kay could now very much pick up when kiddos were wary of her? Realising that they were never ceased to hurt her.

SPOILER!!: Stasya!

It was getting back to where it had been first year, anyhow, and oddly enough being named prefect had helped her with some aspects of Muggle society that she hadn’t considered yet. Their theme for the start-of-term party, anyway.

Being Friday, the tall blonde fourth year had taken advantage of the new rule and worn jeans, knee boots and a fuzzy pink sweater to class, her prefect badge pinned to the sweater as it was when she was in uniform. The setup of the classroom barely got her attention as she’d headed for an open seat near a window, sending the professor a smile on her way there. “Good day, Professor Stewart.” See, no hard feelings here.

Yet another prefect who was exceptionally dressed. Kay was impressed though she kept her face neutral. "Hello, Ms Dalgaard- Volkova.''

SPOILER!!: Daehyun!

Could they have casual Mondays, too?

He couldn't help but frown slightly upon seeing professor Stewart being not quite herself that day, but soon smiled at her. "Hello, professor!" Maybe if he tried to be more cheerful, it could rub off on her.

Scanning the room, he spotted Beth and Quinn, and waved to both girls, before settling in the seat next to Ewan and dropping his bag next to the desk. "Nice shirt," he commented as a way of greeting. "I don't recognize the sport, though..." Was it something muggle?

"Hello, Mr Yoon.'' If Kay knew he too was hoping to have his cheeriness rubbed off on her, it would have melted her heart.

SPOILER!!: Bel

Bel was baffled by these unfamiliar contraptions to the point where she forgot to say hello to the professor and didn't notice what was on the board either. ERmmmmm. Wha?

Kay looked up from her notebook to notice a seemingly mystified Bel. By the looks of it, it was the combination table that had her that way but surely if the Hufflepuff needed any clarification with something she would ask.

SPOILER!!: Jessa!

It was a shaky line drawn. She would treat her no differently than any other Professor, but she wasn't about to sit down for a spot of afternoon tea with her either.

Jessa gave no reaction to the combination desks, in the same way that the pictures with varying muggle transportation received very little in the way of acknowledgement from her either. Indeed, the Prefect was long passed the stage of reactions in lessons. Years of asking questions and being told to wait until the lesson started to find out, had dulled her curiosity on the matter.

Now, her lack of inclination to know before things were explained was almost out of spite--that and having finished the NEWT syllabus already, she now knew everything she would ever learn at Hogwarts.

At this point, there were no real surprises.

"Good day, Ms Cambridge.'' Jessa was one of those who had remained friendly to her and it was much appreciated. Now the professor looked to her watch. It was almost time to get started.

SPOILER!!: Dorian!

"Hi Professor" he greeted with a small smile and a nod before he found a seat at the front. As he sat down in the combination desk and chair. Which was VERY uncomfortable by the way, he began placing his supplies neatly on the desk.

Curious blue eyes found Dorian. "Hello, Mr Katharos. No casual clothing for you today? Why not?''

SPOILER!!: Rylee!

Ronan, Daniel, Stasya, Ewan and Dorian all got smiles as well. The small girl still making her way towards the front of the room aiming for a table in the middle front row hopefully the closest to the professors desk. "Hello, Professor. I hope you're doing well today,"she greeted softly with a soft warm smile. Yes, Professor Stewart was the only one who got actual words from her so far. Traumatic events of last terms aside she wasn't holding a grudge.

Sliding down into her seat not all to bothered by the whole 'chair attached to the desk thing' she let her bag slide from her shoulder to the floor beneath her feet. Quietly she began taking out her notebook, pens and other needed items for the lesson.

Kay got to her feet to move towards the door. "Hello, Ms Prichard. I've been better.'' It was the first time she had admitted it to a student but there are some things that one could share when bonding had happened out on the Quidditch pitch.

SPOILER!!: Viv!

She felt like something about the woman's usual happy disposition was unwired, meddled with. Strange and different.

The first thing that Vivian noticed when she stepped into the classroom was the odd-looking chairs. Where were their usual desks? The Head Girl tilted her head and wondered how on Earth was she supposed to stretch her legs around if she was only given such a small space. Sighs. "Hello, professor," she greeted and took one of those... seats.

Rather uncomfortable, to be honest.

It was almost 10 AM on the dot and that meant it was almost time to commence the lesson. "Hello, Ms Fairfield,'' was the greeting directed to the Head Girl.

SPOILER!!: Quinn again
Quote:

Did this mean...Was Reese...Did he...? She looked away, unable to even fathom the idea hypothetically long enough to finish the thought. Of course he didn't. Why would he? She was just herself.

Quinn watched Eria pass by them and make her way to the opposite side of the back row, and gave the older Snake a nod in greeting.

And then he entered. The Tosser. Quinn's entire demeanor changed in an instant, cold and venomous as he made his way far from her. With one simple look, Ewan had become the person Quinnlin Kevelle despised above all. And he still had her book. Curious, Quinn's eyes fell on his bag. "Accio Peter Pan!" The book hesitantly flew from his bag and to her hand. She looked it over, and satisfied he hadn't damaged it, slipped it into her own bag.

She saw Daniel's wave, but she could also see where he was heading, and watched with an unreadable, calculating coldness as he took a seat next to the Tosser.

Beth's voice drew her back, and again her demeanor changed again, relaxing noticeably. She turned to look at her best friend, brow knitted questioningly. Still she was smiling softly at the comment, a rosey pink tinge reaching her cheeks suddenly.

And Rylee gave her a small smile. That was a little bit of a surprise to Quinn, but wasn't unwelcome the way it might have been a week ago. She gave the Sister a small, half smile in return.

The Muggle Studies was completely unaware of the whispered spell. Not until a book zoomed up. Her eyes followed it calmly and when Quinn caught it, she had to look no further for her culprit. The wand still being out did nothing to help. "Ten points for not putting away your wand when I told you to and another ten for the use of it in this classroom without being asked to.'' Quinn had been given a fair chance before... Also, everyone should know the rules by now. Wands could be kept by the kiddos but it should be in their holsters or bag.

SPOILER!!: Derf!

Of course he was concerned about the trauma of his friends, himself, for being manipulated by Dark magic...but...

His eyes found the professor's as he entered and while he DID feel a jolt of sympathy for her less than cheerful appearance (it was always sad seeing someone break, you know?) it was her decision to be back at Hogwarts, teaching, after all that and the administration had let. So his empathy was a bit dry at the moment.

Which was why he was glad that Bel's confusion provided him with a bit of distraction - and he too had missed the board and it's offerings. Bel examining the desk as though it were a new creature to be tamed. Which, well, these desks sorta DID need tamed. They were confusing to get in and Derf still struggled a bit with the actual table bit that you could pull up and down. He always seemed to get stuck with the one that was jammed or something. Though these one's didn't seem to have that option today.

"Do...you need help figuring out how to sit?" he asked, offering by way of demonstration just how to DO that. Just in case.

Derf's entrance did not go without notice though he was among those that offered no greeting. At least he had offered to demonstrate to Bel how to properly use the combination.

Maybe she was just a little burnt out on the subject.

As she headed inside the classroom, she greeted the Professor with a small nod. ”Hello.” Short and simple that was the way she liked to keep it. She walked on and went to go find a seat. She quietly slipped into the desk beside of the Head girl Vivan. ”I’m really not a big fan of these desk.” Shaking her head at the older girl. Hopefully this lesson would be starting soon.

"Good morning, Ms Primeaux. You're just on time.''

"Good morning, Mr Hadley- Nairne.'' At least his mother had never been possessed while being Muggle Studies professor, had she?

* * * * * * *

Once the door was shut after Kaysha had determined there were no stragglers on the corridor, she returned to face the class. She stood beside the whiteboard and indicated to the chart stuck there. "There are many modes of transportation that Muggles use as means to get by every day. These methods cover air, water and land. It would be impossible to cover in detail each of these methods so I have narrowed it down to one that is very common and which even witches and wizards would use once the time is right. But before we get into that, let me ask you about your personal experience using any muggle mode of transportation. Which is the best in your opinion? Which is not? Did you have a scare using one? Any tips for your peers? Even if you’ve had no experience as yet, which would you recommend?''

These were basic questions but they allowed her to gauge just how much knowledge they all had about the topic. It also allowed for everyone's participation since there were no right answers.

OOC: Thanks for posting, guys! Now that we've officially started, keep in mind if any latecomers want to announce their arrival We'll continue in 24-25 hours.

Quinnlin tipped her head sourly at the Professor in acknowledgement of the points loss, but said nothing. She slipped the wand up her jacket's sleeve, eyes narrowly watching Professor Stewart. This was the best the Muggle Studies professor would get. There was no way she was leaving her wand out of instant reach just in case Professor Stewart went all possessed again and tried to eradicate her friends. Especially Beth. Quinn would defend herself too, of course, but she'd also take the killing curse if it meant her friends got to live.

So, wand was out of sight, but would still be in hand in a second if needed.

She leaned back in her seat, and folded her arms across her chest, eyes never leaving the Professor, and continued to say nothing. Quinnlin Kevelle had no true experience with muggle transportation. That would involve going places. Something Quinn only got to do once, with the Greyvsons. Every other time, she woke up to a note left for her by her parents informing her that they went somewhere. And when she did go anywhere around London, it was usually places like Diagon Alley, where floo powder was used instead. Quinn didn't have an answer to Professor Stewart's question. Not that she'd really have answered even if she did. She rarely volunteered to answer anything.

Just as Maddie had suspected, the topic was about Muggle transportation. She tried to think positive about this, especially since the professor was always so nice and kind. She'd never known Professor Stewart to be any other way. Well, except for that one time...

Anyway.

Maddie thought about the professor's question then raised her hand. "I haven't had a lot of experience with Muggle transportation, but my parents took me to Disney World this past summer, and I rode something called a monorail," she said. "It's a type of train, but my mom said it has different sort of tracks than a regular train. It wasn't too scary until it broke down one time. We couldn't even use magic to fix it! Dad said he could have fixed it in seconds, but we had to wait on Muggle mechanics to get things going again!"

Beth didn’t mean to be wary of anyone, it was just...despite her bubbly outward personality the young girl took a while to truly trust anyone. Quinn was still the only person she trusted with anything and everything, everyone else simply fell by the wayside when it came to trust.

So sitting there, as Professor Stewart took those points away from Quinn, was hard, odd…and hard. Quinn wasn’t meaning to hurt anyone but…oh, merlin this was going to be hard wasn’t it? Looking over to Quinn all Beth did was give her an expression that clearly read as sorry, because she was. Sorry she had lost the points, and sorry about whatever had ruined the friendship, even fleeting, that she had once shared with Ewan.

Oh…class had started, her silent thoughts were being interrupted by questions about…transportation, sure, she was aware the lesson was on transportation. Still, a part of her didn’t right well care about transportation. She knew it was a thing but it wasn’t like she had to use all that often herself.

Glancing she watched as Kemp talked about a trip to Disney world, her eyes somewhat glazing over as she spoke of the experience. It wasn’t that it was boring – it was…it was more that she didn’t really care for Disney not really. Finally, after quite a bit of contemplation the blonde raised her hand.

”I’ve taken quite a few black cabs when I’m at home with my family - and…I think my favorite experience was using a little paddleboat in a pond over summer? We didn’t get anywhere really, but I mean, I know paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes are muggle transportation.” she was speaking firmly because well, she knew things.

NFL...? Daehyun had no idea whatsoever what muggle sport Ewan had been talking about, even shrugged his shoulders in confusion when Beth piqued in, something about footie? What in the world was that? He wouldn't know, but he gladly accepted Ewan's offer of teaching him some time. Now, his Ravenclaw friend didn't need to know that Daehyun and sports were just one big nope - he would try his best. Maybe it was only wizarding sports that he was bad at.

Also, mental note - he would be sticking to Ewan for the rest of his Muggle Studies lessons. The boy seemed to know his stuff.

Just before class started, he didn't miss Quinn losing a lot of points for Ravenclaw, and he couldn't help but frown. Not at the girl, but just at the whole situation. Was she okay? He didn't know her well enough just yet to determine if that was her usual self, or if that was her on a bad day. But Beth would know for sure.

Now, on to the lesson.

Muggle transportation.

...

His hand went up in the air hesitantly. "They have those-ummm-what are they called-the iron bird-like-things? Those seem to be the fastest that they use." But he wouldn't know for sure. The most muggle mean of transportation that he'd used was the Hogwarts Express. As for cars - living in a muggle neighbourhood, he saw quite a bunch, but he could never see himself actually driving one. He was disastrous enough on a broom.

Excited that class had started, Emmalyn held her pen ready to take notes. She didn’t want to miss anything and especially enjoyed hearing what the other students that hadn’t been exposed to muggle things thought.

Did she have any experience? Sure she did. She had been on airplanes, in cars, on motorcycles, boats, busses, trains, and even a helicopter. By far, her favorite was the motorcycle. Even with flying, now that she was part of the magical world, she longed to be old enough to ride a motorcycle by herself.

She raised her hand and waited for her turn. “Professor, my favorite is the motorcycle. I’ve never driven one, but I’ve ridden one with my father many times. It’s the best. I guess it kind of feels like flying on a broom, but faster since you are so close to the ground.” she giggled a bit. “I mean the motorcycle is on the ground, but your body is closer to the ground, making it feel faster.” She hoped that sounded right.

Ronan kept his glee at little miss 'look how advanced I am for a first year' losing points hidden. The girl irritated him to no end, no matter how irrational it was. Plus, everyone knew you didn't use magic in Muggle Studies, so what made her think she was so special?

Anyway, the lesson was starting. And he could guess, just from the hints Professor Stewart was giving, what the lesson was going to be about. Cars. He didn't have the obsession with them that some guys did, but he did much prefer them over brooms. "I prefer cars. There's just something about them that's even better than brooms. Plus, unlike brooms, you don't have to worry about bugs or getting wet." In fact, he had studied all summer so that he could get his license over the Christmas holiday.

"Though, if I have to go very far or have to be somewhere in a hurry, I prefer my family's private jet." Yes, he said private jet. Don't everyone freak out at once.

Sitting on those elementary school looking and feeling chair desks made him feel incredibly awkward. As if he was back in that Muggle School back home. EEEK. Once the class progressed, and people mentioned the transportation methods, raising his hand he just had to comment about his favorite childhood memory.

"My uncle, has a motorcycle, yet he said he would never let me ride it until I was a decent bicycle rider. So he taught me how to ride on it...it was terrifying, keeping the balance with only your feet, moving in a cycle, (internal duh), yet after a few falls and scratches, people manage to ride it properly and learn the traffic rules when you use it. It's almost as important as when you ride a car, I think..." And then he just cleared his throat. Whoa, adrenaline rush happened right there.

Beth Greyvson hadn’t had a hard life, no, that much was certain. Still, something about the way the headboy had nonchalantly thrown out the words private jet made her…well, annoyed. Really? Did he have to be such an freaking pretentious twit? Really, that was rule one of coming from money you don’t talk about money. The blonde just glared at him for a good moment before muttering the words ”new money” under her breath, because clearly that was what he was.

He wouldn’t make it far in life if he boasted…really, truly. Some smart little thing was going to take him for all that he was worth, poor hapless fool. She almost felt bad for him and yet, she didn’t.

Quinn was doing perfectly well being her absolutely normal, stoic self as she listened to everyone else answer. Even the Head Boy's despicable gloat didn't get much of a reaction from her. That is until Beth's whispered comment to her. An unintended snort of laughter escaped her before she could stop it.

Quinn quickly covered her mouth to hide the smile that she was wrestling with, only lowering her hand again once she had herself under control. Back to her regular stoicism.

"Excuse moi?" Because, yes he'd heard something about new and money. The young Slytherin obviously needed to learn to be more discreet when she whispered to her friends. And she clearly had no idea who she was dealing with, as there was nothing 'new money' about him. It was like saying the Malfoys were new money. Ludicrous.

Oh look who it was, the same moron that had suggested the allergy potions, the ones that could be easily tampered with. And her laughing friend, the one who thought she was so special. "Something funny?"

Quinn glanced over at the Head Boy, and took her time studying him, though she didn't give the impression of being all that interested, honestly. Finally she spoke. "Yes." And that was all. She answered his question and was done.

Quinn turned back to keeping a wary watch over the Muggle Studies Professor.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Dorian waved back at Rylee before he looked down at his uniform and then shrugged his shoulders. "I like it" he said as the Professor had asked why he was not in casual clothing on friday. "Or was it mandatory to wear casual clothing today?" he asked in a slight panic. Had he missed something from the notice board?

While the Ravenclaw was busy neatly placing his muggle pen he had specialty bought for this subject on to his textbook, Dorian could not help but hear a two times 10 points loss.

Normally, he wouldn't have bothered. What idiocy students did to lose points was their problem. However, he quickly learned that the student in question had been Quinn. And she was in his House. So that meant that HE had lost points as well.

Dorian's jaw clenched and he was frowning. But he was not frowning at Quinn. He was frowning at the Professor. 20 points? Wasn't that too much? He had not heard nor seen what had taken place but the classroom seemed to be in perfect order and no one was lying on the floor in pain or something. So it wasn't like the first year had done something THAT horrible.

But instead of voicing his opinion and taking the risk of losing points himself, the third year let out a frustrated soft sigh and raised his hand to answer the first question in a calm and friendly tone.

"My dad has a driver's license and a car , Professor" he said. "But i don't know what he likes about a car to be honest. It's so ...confining and...slow"

So Skylar probably should have dropped Muggle Studies after passing her OWL. It wasn't as if she needed the subject and honestly, after Professor Stewart's injustice in that year which the Slytherin guessed was attributed to last year's events at Dufftown... wait, how was Stewart even cleared to return to Hogwarts?? After putting student's lives at risk the way she did??

Also something that irritated Skylar? These new combination desks. She was nearly five foot nine and they were definitely not made for tall people. Had she been allowed magic in the classroom, she'd have cast some charm on her seat to make it more comfortable, but alas, in the back of the room, the Slytherin captain tried to stretch as much as possible. Yoga session after class was definitely going to be in order.

.... did that first year just ?? Skylar blinked at the young Ravenclaw who was quickly berated for the magic use. Yes, because only magical entities were allowed in this classroom. And yes, she was still salty about that.

Something else she was salty about? Ronan Carter's attitude, especially as he mentioned bugs and getting wet. She rolled her eyes at him, because clearly he didn't realize that the bugs and being open to the elements was majority of the appeal when it came to flying. But apparently Mr Prissy was too entitled for that, as he mentioned his private jet. Just mentioning a jet was not enough for the clearly entitled Gryffindor.

As far as her own preferred muggle transportation mode? Well she far preferred her broom, but alas that was magical, so considering the question, she raised her hand. "Train is the best, in my opinion, because we actually use that method in the wizarding world." Hogwarts Express, anyone? "A muggle train isn't really all too different from the Hogwarts Express and it's nice to be able to just sit back and enjoy the scenery ... it's relaxing."

Max wasn't an expert on muggle transportation, but he knew his fair share. Enough to feel confident in raising his hand in the air. "I don't really have a personal experience, but boats are scary." Yes, they were. "They can sink and then you can drown." Was that too blunt? Well, it was true! He lived near the coast and he'd heard plenty of stories about shipwrecks and so on. Noooo, thank you.

So, Muggle transportation? Yeah, Vivian's tried a few of them. Cars, trains, motorcycles, the usuals. However, they'd most likely be her last options for all kinds of transportation anyway. Why waste hours and money when you can simply do Apparition? The Floo network was rather good as well, but rather limiting destination-wise. Not all places had a fireplace, y'know.

But if she were to really pick a means of travelling that she would be more comfortable with... hmm. "I prefer anything that operates on land, Professor," Vivian shared when it was her turn. "Cars, trains, motorcycles. Travelling by plane or by boat makes me a bit anxious." She could fall to her death any moment... and boarding a ship gave off the same scary connotation. Drowning seemed like a terrible way to die, and she couldn't agree more with what one of her fellow Slytherins said.

She still preferred magical means, just saying.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

She HAD been paying attention...for the most part, to the answer of her peers while she considered whether she could be bothered to make one of her own but it became a little more difficult to concentrate between those First Years and the Head Boy.

Dull eyes moved back and forth between the three but admittedly, she wasn't paying as much attention as would be necessary to figure out what had them in a knot. Her interest went only so far as seeing what would happen next. Would the Beth girl pull another move like in History of Magic? Would Ronan be...well....Ronan...? The possibilities were entertaining in their own sort of way, even if they did little to keep her from feeling she may have been going brain dead.

"Cars are alright, planes take too long, ships take even longer, buses can be crowded, bikes are tiring, motorbikes are thought to be dangerous."

The Ravenclaw rattled off a few methods of transportation, her gaze shifting over to the window. In another minute or two she would give up. That was where her reading material would come in handy.

Oh. Yikes. That was a lot of points in one go and Derf glanced over at the young Ravenclaw almost sympathetically. His first point loss had been a massive one as well, though he had zero regrets about that still. But soon his attention returned to the front of the classroom where he finally noticed the board and was only half listening to what the professor was saying. Though he quickly put together what they ought to be sharing once he listened to his classmates.

His own experiences with muggle transportation? Well...it was kinda limited really. Mum and dad preferred to travel by magical means and when they DID travel it was across continents and stuff...and airplanes too way too long as some people were pointing out.

"I've been in cars before," he nodded, mostly glancing over at Jessa because those times had mostly been together. "And boats. They're neat. But...erm...this summer I got to try motocross for the first time. And, well, I know that's not exactly transportation really...but it was loads of fun."

Yes. Off topic a bit there Derf.

"OH OH! And cable cars! Like...the aerial lift sorts. I think those are SUPER neat!"

Bel figured out how to actually sit in the desk thing and grinned at Derf, but getting comfy was a whole other thing. Luckily though, the lesson was beginning and the topic at hand, once the professor spoke up, was RIGHT up her alley. FINALLY! This was WAY BETTER than sewing by the way! Her hand shot up.

"Professor, I ride dirtbikes, you know, motocross and freestyle motocross? So I definitely think they're best. I've brought some of my mates out to the tracks to try it too," Derf and Tayo for instance, "Its so much fun, but it can be dangerous if you aren't sensible about it and if you don't take proper precautions. We also have a ute for hauling my bikes to and from the tracks too." Bel said, completely unawares that 99.99 percent of the class wouldn't have a single earthly clue what a ute was, given it was an Antipodean term. "I've been racing since I was a toddler, and jumping and tricking on my bikes since I was about six, but its always supervised, and we wear protective gear -helmet, gloves, boots, chestplate, goggles, that sort of thing- and also there's limits on things like the physical size of the bike and the power of the motor depending on what level you're riding at, your physical strength, and your experience. I've had a few injuries but nothing serious, though I've seen some pretty spectacular and serious wipe-outs, usually when people were showboating and not being safe." The Australian girl said, addressing the whole having a scare thing, and talking a mile a minute out of sheer passion for the topic.

"My tips for anyone who is interested in it, is to get some one-on-one coaching its good fun and it helps a lot with confidence, which is really important when you're handling a motorbike of any kind." And a couple other people were talking about motorbikes too, which Bel was excitedly listening to and nodding along with, especially when Emmalyn mentioned about flying, but she was pretty sure they were all talking about road bikes, which was a different thing entirely.

She was still having trouble with the desk and chair combo, by the way, alternatively scooting right to the edge of the chair to lean forward on the desk surface, and back in the chair properly but not being comfortable with the desk alignment as she talked. Honestly? She'd be WAY more comfy on a dirtbike, probably surprising nobody.

Muggle Transportation. Well that was a new topic, and it was kind of interesting. Hattie found the idea of muggle transportation fascinating. The fact that they could do such cool amazing things without magic was pretty great. She hadn't used too much herself, mostly just cars and trains. But she still thought it was pretty cool. She listened carefully to what her fellow peers were saying. The stuff Bel said was cool, and she'd never really thought about dirt bikes before. They sounded was cool, and she was pretty interested in having a go now. Maybe that could be something for the summer. But for now she had to think of her own answer. Thinking about that reminded her of the summer, and that was how she got to her answer.

"I mostly use muggle cars, but I had the chance to go on an aeroplane over the summer. Which is kinda like a broom I guess, but can be used for long distances. I went on a plane to Hawaii, which I wouldn't like to do on a broom. It was pretty cool, and I find it so fascinating how muggles can get all that metal into the air without magic" It was scary, but fascinating. It had been a great experience.

Olivia sitting in front of the class shot up her glance towards Beth and Quinn sitting together. She was also surprised by the sudden points loss but even more surprised about Beth and the Head Boy's rather salty exchanges, that includes Quinn as well.

At that instant the Professor called her name to answer the question. Quite startled, she thought of an example of a Muggle transportation. It took her quite a while to finally speak. "Muggle boats! I've tried once with my grandfather. His Muggle crews call it a fishing boat." Her eyes were a glint of enthusiasm now, "...I went around and I saw moving parts below deck they call an engine. Too loud moving parts. Just like with a Muggle car. It's the one which drives the boat." She tried Muggle cars too...and trains similar to the Hogwarts Express, almost similar actually.

She heard about Spaceships too but she hadn't tried it yet, so no need to mention that. These cars used when you go into space, outside the earth, amongst the stars. She liked anything techie, in the mere fact that it tickles her curiosity. Muggles had no magic and they simply were just intelligent creatures. She had to admit that.

Default Quinn, Beth, Daniel, Ronan and Professor (Sorry, catching up)

With a wide grin on his face, he was about to unleash the full force of his enthusiasm about his favourite sport on Daniel until he saw something fly from his bag. Was someone stealing from him? Glancing around, he saw a book fly from his bag and travel across the classroom towards Quinn. Tilting his head sideways, he looked at her, curiosity across his face. What did she wa... Aha. Her book back. Laughing now, he turned back to Daniel, his smile back. *Shakes head slightly*.

Spotting Beth as she walked in, he gave a small wave back. At least she wasn’t being overly aggressive towards him for no reason. “It’s not really like football. I mean, they use...I guess you could say a rugby ball? Except it’s slightly smaller”. His smile spread across his face as he continued to talk about it, his enthusiasm building. “There’s so many rules, I don’t actually think I could explain them all now but you’re more than welcome to come with me and Daniel later”. Turning his head towards Daniel now, he raised his eyes a little as if to say, you don’t mind, right? He knew Daniel wouldn’t mind at all because they were... uh... friends with a capital F.

Turning back to Daniel now, his mouth twitched in amusement. “Don’t worry, I’ll give you a crash course on all things muggle sports later”. Sensing his friend’s unease, he leaned over the gap between their desks, “Don’t worry, I’ll have you catching touch down’s in no time”. Chortling a little too loudly now, turned back to the front as the Professor addressed the class for the beginning of the lesson.

Listening intently now, his brain went into overdrive thinking of all the different modes of transport. That was, until she mentioned something about having a scare on one of them. Closing his eyes, he looked up, his heart rate picking up by the minute. “Pull your self together” he whispered, quiet enough so no one could hear him. Giving his head a little shake, her turned back to Daniel.

Seizing on Daniel’s answer now, he smiled, “They’re called aeroplanes mate. They’re basically the fastest mode of transport a muggle has. They tend to use them to travel the world although it can be used to travel smaller distances too”. He couldn’t help but laugh at one of his classmate’s comments about a private jet (Ronan) and then again at Beth’s obvious distaste at his comment. His smile widened as some of his class mates started to describe their favourite modes of muggle transport. “I’ve been on most muggle modes of transport. I mean, the most common is a Car although”, *Deep Breath*, “they’re not exactly safe. Then you have bus, train, plane, bicycle, motorbike, boat and so on...”. He could have gone into some of the less common ones like that of the cable car, but he thought he best not. He didn’t want to bore those who were less interested than he. “I’d have to say my favourite is the motorbike. I have an off road one back home that I use along the mountains at home. Would I recommend one for someone who’s not used muggle transport before? No. I mean, best start off with a bus or a train maybe”. Then again, wizards used brooms so maybe they’d like a motorbike. After all, a bus could be boring. “It really depends on where you want to go and how much effort you want to take to get there”.

Was that a smile she had just gotten from one Quinn Kevelle? It sure looked like it. While it wasn't much of a big smile it was something, a smart to say the least and Rylee would take it. This was a step up for the both of them as anyone could see, it wasn't their usual glare or completely ignore the other game that they normally played. Not missing Beth's added wave in company to the smile she wiggled her fingers at her in greeting as well, a wide smile on her face. Beth did see the smile Quinn had given her, right?!

Rylee soft small faltered a bit when the Professor admitted to her that she had been better. It made her sad honestly. She knew how hard their professor was trying to make their lessons fun and really teach them all. When were they all going to come to their sense and see things for what it was. Giving her a sad smile and a tiny understanding nod of her head, Ry sunk back in her seat to prepare herself for the lesson.

Which clearly was to start off with the loss of some points... wow. Rylee glanced over at Dorian noticing his frown. Twenty points was a lot to loss but... this was Muggle Studies? From where she was sitting at the very front of the room she had heard Quinn be told to put her wand away and then the deduction of points happen but she had no idea of why.

The lesson was starting and there was no time to focus on anything else. Which form of muggle transportation was best. Rylee cast a quick glance at Reese. They had traveled quite a bit on a wide variety of different types of transportation. Her favorite though was her sisters motor scooter, mostly because it was charmed to go faster. She wasn't really into cars or things like that... they crashed.

"I like my sisters motor scooter... but I don't really like being in cars especially when you have to drive over bridges going over water. We've been on boats and planes and trains and all that too though... some of those were okay for a little while but it can get boring sitting there for so long." Rylee gave her answer when it was her turn. Getting somewhere by magical means was much faster.

SPOILER!!: Quinn!

The look of sass did nothing to move Kay, negatively or positively. She simply gave Quinn a stern gaze in return. At least the wand was put away and as long as it wasn't used purposely again, she could live with that. No answer was volunteered so she turned her attention to someone else.

SPOILER!!: Maddie, Skylar
[QUOTE=Anna Banana;12329792]Just as Maddie had suspected, the topic was about Muggle transportation.

Dad said he could have fixed it in seconds, but we had to wait on Muggle mechanics to get things going again!"[/QUOTE

Kay nodded at Maddie. "Yes, those are rather similar to trains. 'Mono' means one and in this case, that 'one' refers to the fact that this particular type of trail only uses one track or rail in order to work, hence the term means literally 'one rail.' The term was used since 1987.'' She smiled a tight smile now. "That's quite right. It was better to wait for the mechanics.''

Now there was something Skylar had pointed out that was quite true. "Yes, exactly. The Wizarding World has adopted a form of Muggle transport in the form of the train. The Unites States, China and India are among the countries which have the largest train network.''

SPOILER!!: Beth!

"Cabs are important. Many persons turn to them when they need transportation. In countries, the terms vary but there are four types of cabs: Hackney carriages which are the ones stopped publicly in the streets, Private hires which are hired in advance, taxibuses which ply particular and specified routes and limousines which are used for extra special occasions.'' Kay made a note of this on her white board with the purple marker. "Those are indeed forms of transportation but they're mainly used for recreational purposes.''

SPOILER!!: Daehyun, Harriet!

Daehyun's effort was much appreciated while Etta got nods. "I believe you're referring to airplanes. Yes, this is used for making long distance trips particularly from one country to another or to another part of the same country. They come in different sizes and designs. More modern planes are able to fly via computer controls alone which unfortunately eliminates the need for pilots. Did you know that the first airplane was invented in 1903 by American brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright?''

"Also called the motorbike.'' Kay knew exactly what Lyn was referring to when she compared it to a broomstick. It dragged up painful memories of her now dead fiancé and when they went on rides together. "I can certainly be compared to that of a broom. Motorcycles come with either two or three wheels and while they are used for transport, they're also used for recreation to some. For example, there are persons who are a part of motorcycle gangs.'' A small smile was sent Frankie's way. "I do think that your uncle is a smart man, Mr Choe. It makes a lot of sense to learn the bicycle first.''

Did she imagine it or did Ronan look extremely happy that Quinn had just lost some points. There might be some beef between these two. However, he did touch upon the main topic for today; not that she was about to elaborate on that just yet though some others as well must have figured it out. "Cars are quite the convenience, especially if you have your own as well as your license. Fun fact: the first mass production of cars began in 1901 by Ransom Eli Olds.'' Private jet? Kay's reaction was no more than a raised eyebrow. Boasting did not impress her.

The woman had given Dorian a small smile earlier. "You're still free to wear your uniform.'' Now she gazed at him thoughtfully. "The size would depend on if it's confining, unless you're claustrophobic? And perhaps your dad is a cautious driver so it seems he dries slow.'' She didn't know about the latter exactly.

"Right, Ms Cambridge. They all have their disadvantages too.'' Yet another kiddo that preferred cars. Excellent.

Truth be told, Kay had not heard the whispered words from Beth. It was Quinn's reaction that got her suspicions up first. Ronan's reply just confirmed it.

"I'm inclined to agree with you, Mr Carden, Ms Fairfield.'' Not many knew this was one of her fears. "Many boating accidents happen unfortunately. Not just to large boats like the Titanic in 1912 but even to smaller boats. One must be extra careful and take the proper precautions when using this method. In other words, make sure you use lifejackets at all times.''

Wow. Call Kay impressed. She had never so much as seen a boat's engine. "Another situation whereby a transportation method can be used for something different... in this case, a means to earning a living. I take it that you liked the experience, Ms Hurst?''

SPOILER!!: Derf, Bel!

"Five points for your demonstration to Ms. Macindoe.''

"Motocross, everyone, is a form of off road motorcycle racing. While correctly stated it isn't a form of transportation, it must be noted that this is yet another method where transportation can be used in a competitive manner. Excellent, out of the box thinking, Mr Ashburry- Hawthorne. Cable cars indeed. In addition to being used aerially, they can be used on the ground. These exist in places like New Zealand and America, particularly San Francisco.''

OOC: I'm sorry but I forgot to give Derf the points earlier

Bel certainly had a lot to say but Kay listened with interest. Ah, so it was she that introduced Derf to motocross. "Thank you for sharing that, Ms Macindoe. I must say it's great to have an activity that builds your confidence and brings out a talent within you. Continue to take the precautions that you do.'' The last thing she wanted to hear was Bel was seriously injured in the future. "Continue to encourage your friends to try it also. It sounds fun.'' And scary at the same time but some lived dangerously, right?

"If you think about it, none of them are actually safe. You can be a careful driver or passenger on a boat but something can happen due to the fault of someone else or nature. Never the less, excellent points shared with us. It is important to take small steps when venturing out to use transportation since some of us have certain fears when it comes to the methods. For example, we could be afraid of vast bodies of water.'' Which was basically hers.

"Scooters are certainly useful. What about if you take something to occupy your time when going for long journeys?'' Kays inquired with a hint of a twinkle in her eye.

* * * * * * * *

"Today we will be studying cars. Oh, we won't delve into the boring history of how they're made or where they originated from.'' Never fear, Kaysha wasn't that boring. "Many witches and wizards go on to take their driver's tests when they reach the minimum Muggle approved age in hope to gain their license. Since cars seem to be the most popular form chosen, we'll be covering the basic exterior and interior parts as well as some crucial do's and don'ts before moving into today's main activity.''

Stewart paused for a moment, taking the time to move to her desk. From within, she retrieved to more pieces of cardboard charts. They were quickly added to the board. "As you can see, I have diagrams of the exterior and exterior of a car. For this portion of the class, we will be labelling them.'' Of course, she could have just given them the diagrams on papers and have them label it but that was too basic and no fun. An interactive activity was what she was going for.

"Please study the diagrams then I will give you your first set of instructions. If you have any questions, now will be an excellent time to ask them or if there's a fact or opinion you want to share, go ahead. Just do not any parts to the diagram.''

SPOILER!!: Click for Diagrams!

OOC: Hiii, guys! <3 So, this is a more laid back part of the mini activity but it's perfect for asking questions or sharing a fact like Kay said. We shall continue in about 24 hours!
