Muggle Studies Lesson 1: the muggle hospital scene
As you walk inside the Muggle Studies classroom you can't help but notice--Wait a minute. Was? There? Much? To? Notice?
For once, everything appears to be absolutely normal! Too normal. Your desks (yes, desks) (no beanbags) are arranged in a large semi-circle with a couple of amphitheater-type rows that face the front of the classroom. Also in front of the classroom is Professor Schmoe (donned in fuchsia), standing up and reading a copy of The Times. Behind him the chalkboard reads "HELLO and WELCOME" in handwriting that may take a you a few minutes to decipher. He asks that you take a seat and pay no mind to the briefcase underneath your seat. No, seriously for reaaaal. They're locked.
Only the observant eye will notice that the walls are three shades whiter than usual. The observant sniffer may note a faint smell of lemon and bleach in the air. Matter of fact? Just about everything in the room screams "antiseptic".
Did.... the chairs feel slightly stiffer than they usually did? Is the air..... stale?
OOC: sup. welcome to our first MS lesson of the year (ooc). seeing as it is mid-october IC, y'alls students would have had plenty of classes with the Schmoe-bro thus far. while you're here, please take a look at the classroom rules. i'll post in about 15ish (give/take, probably give) hours to officially start the lesson. i am EXCITE. ^^ _____ This lesson has officially begun, post as if you've been here the whole time (unless you're willing to face the consequences)!

Isla was trying super hard to focus on the lesson, but each and every time the professor said 'errr,' it broke the first year's concentration. Even still, she managed to get the gist of what he was saying and asking. With her hand raised high in the air, she chimed in with, "I don't think muggles go straight to hospitals for everything. They have doctor's offices for the less serious stuff, like getting a virus or something."
She was trying to remember what her friends from muggle did when they had things like common colds or even the flu. "I think hospitals are for more serious illnesses, like when the antibiotics just aren't helping, or when you have a serious accident, like with a muggle car," she continued. She made sure to use the words 'I think', because even though she'd gone to school with muggles for years, she still wasn't an expert on them. "There's medicine given at muggle hospitals, too, and they can even do a surgery if you need it."

Was Carsyn the only one who wanted to launch into some corrective story about the birds and the bees? Because surely someone ought to tell Schmoe that before the hospital, there needed to be ........ other things. Okay yea she wasn't going to tell him. That would be like telling a five year old that santa claus wasn't real. She was going to sit there, trying to keep a totally mature face on while not thinking about the BEFORE of a hospital.
So obviously he didn't answer the question about hospital workers because she might have word vomited and said something inappropriate instead of saying something sensible like about the long hours.
Oh, they weren't actually talking about babies. Whew. Once Carsyn realized this, she was able to collect herself for the next question on reasons for a hospital visit. She was about to say 'quidditch', except well, this was muggle studies. So instead she answered the other question, "Sometimes doctors might need to give patients an ... intravenous of fluids. Like if the patient is dehydrated or at risk of being so."

Phoebe straightened up in her chair at the professor's request, although she gave Flynn a grateful hug for keeping her from falling on her head. She'd fallen on her head more than once... usually not when there was a Flynn around to keep her from dying.
She wasn't sure about this.... hospital thing. Probably people were right that everything they treated at St. Mungo's could be treated at a Muggle hospital. "What do they do when they need to regrow a bone at a Muggle hospital? Without Skelegrow?"
Yoyo, who sat happily just behind Phoebe was all-too excited about today's lesson considering its so-far-kinda-unsettling subject matter. but Schmoe was funny, and the last term's lessons had been some of her very favorites. She liked working with her hands, and she liked learning through trial and error rather than by having information shoveled into her head like some great open maw.
Anyway, Muggle hospitals were strange places she'd never been to but seen in both muggle and magical film- usually, babies were involved, or zombie outbreaks like in those movies her Mami didn't know her daddy let her sometimes watch. "Professor, sometimes in muggle movies - like the ones my auntie Justine does - people go to the hospital because they eat something really bad, get sick and have to get their stomachs plumped." Because a bigger stomach meant the bad food had more room to break down in. Mhm, mhm.

'Different kinds of doctors use different equipments to treat different symptoms..for example, an orthodontist may put braces on your teeth to straighten them,' she added.
"Excellent example," Finneas nodded his head and smiled at the young Ravenclaw. "This is very true," he nodded in response to her second answer. "Though, errr you do not find orthodontists in hospitals." But the point remained all the same.

Tom was thinking about that when the Professor asked another question. He raised his hand "Professor, if you break your leg... you go to hospital and they sort it and you use crutches or a wheelchair." He had broken an ankle playing football once and was on crutches for weeks.
Finneas would mind, for the record. AnYwAy. "This is true," he confirmed. "Initially they will perform an X-ray on the injured leg to confirm that it has been broken... And if it is, they will put a cast on it just as Kaira mentioned. Then errrrr if it is a leg bone, you may need crutches, yes," they hurt under the arm. Finneas had first hand knoweldge.

"Yes," Finneas smiled at the boy for a long moment without blinking. And then when he did blink, he blinked exactly thrice. "Can you think of a scenario that would warrant a visit and then how a muggle may use their technology and science to make it better?" Because that's what the current brainstorm was meant to do. Get them to THInk and understand the differences between the two worlds, whilst still taking the similarities into mind.

After raising her hand, she gave her personal experience answer. “You could go to the hospital if you had a very deep cut. The doctor would give you stitches. Then you would have to go back later and have the stitches removed.” Yes, she had been there, done that. Cut, blood, stitches. Just one of her many hospital experiences.
EXCELLENT example. Finneas was positively BEAMING. "The follow up is very important in the case, yes," he nodded in agreement. "Some people try to remove their own stitches, but a doctor's visit is important because they can assess whether the wound has healed up enough to warrant the removal of stitches annnnnnnnnnd they can ensure that there won't be infection." Yes. Yes. Yes. Excellent.

As she listened to the lesson’s progression and trying to filter out all the ‘er’s, she pondered on the next questions. “Stomach bug,’’ Claudine began and lowering her hand. “Um… maybe they’re treated with something like a potion?”
Listen. This Snakette really had no idea about how stomach bugs were treated by Muggles.
Uhhhhhhhhhh. Finneas did not know how to tell his students that they were wrong because.... Well. "Something like a potion," he repeated with a ............ uh, smile. "Somewhat...... Sometimes medicines come in liquid form...... I suppose that is...... similar to a potion, though there are no magical qualities.... Unlike potions, medicines may take a longer time to work and errr.. they involve reactions within the body by undergoing chemical processes and..... So... Not potions exactly... Additionally some medicines come in the form of tablets or injections... etcetera." He paused for a moment to let that sink in. "Like, er, potions... Medicines are used to treat many different illnesses... They come in all sort of varieties.. Fever reducers, pain reducers, decongestants, the er, list goes on and ON."
SPOILER!!: Bernadette

Bernie agreed with Flynn the Vomithead's answer about 'any injury.' But since she was being the good TA that she was, she played along with Schmoe, and raised her hand to name a highly specific injury. "People go to the hospital for avocado hand, sir, which is when they think they know how to cut the avocado open, and take out the pit with their knife but instead they misjudge their knife skills and they cut their hand open. I've seen it happen. It's gruesome." Her brother had an awesome scar on his hand now, the big idiot. "So you want to get a Muggle doctor who's good at sewing to do your stitches to minimize scarring. Like ideally a plastic surgeon."
There were creative answers and then there were Bernadette's answers. The homerun, if you will. Finneas' eyes must've grown at least three times their size as she spoke. "This is.... new to me," he admitted. Avocado hand. He would have to look that one up later. How..... inch resting.

Not that women HAD to take medicine for that stuff 'cause women were STRONG and TOUGH and could do without it, too. Probably. She was guessing.
Finneas power pointed at young Cecelia. "On the nose!" She was listening and he could TELL. "They use their technology to monitor the baby throughout the pregnancy as well," he smiled big time. Technology was really fascinating wasn't it?!

Naturally, though, there were more questions. As soon as Schmoe asked the one about what afflictions might warrant a hospital visit, one word flashed in Kaiser's mind, small but bright. Breakdown. He shook his head, tried to banish the thought and think of something else, and how it might be treated. Breakdown. But everything he could think either was a bit too much for a classroom setting, with all these kids around- breakdown -or was something he wasn't really sure had a treatment. Or, if he knew it did, he didn't know what said treatment was. Breakdownbreakdownbreakdown.
Again, Kaiser shook his head, slightly more aggressively this time. Irritating brain; he'd give it 'breakdown' in a minute.
Well, no other thoughts were coming to him, so Kaiser decided to just keep his mouth shut this time. It was generally the wisest course of action for him to take. Back to you, Schmoe.
Did someone say internal strife? No? Yeah, okay. Finneas didn't notice aNy suspect brain activity from this end of the room. Kaiser looked as if he was thinking. What a thinker that Kaiser was. Finneas gave him a strange smile before moving on.

With an expression that could only be described as unamused, he just put up his hand and answered the question as bluntly as he possibly could “Car crashes”, his voice low and husky. This was not something he really did not want to talk about but the urge to at least give an answer was just a little too much to ignore.
...... "Yes," he nodded. Though he did wait to see if Ewan would elaborate. "Can you think of an injury that would arise in a car crash, and what a may be done to take care of it at the hospital?"

"Intravenous fluids," he smiled BIG because this was a very good answer! "Sometimes known as giving a patient an IV, they're very good to help with issues of dehydration because they are able to give the fluids directly to the veins." Muggles really did think about everything, honestly.

Finneas... Blinked. ".... Well." It was a good question that she asked. "They don't errr regrow a bone at the hospital. Bones are actually a very active organ. They regrow themselves in a sense because errr there is a constant interplay between old bone cells and new ones. When a bone breaks, errr, the body cells will first produce cartilage, which is the softer bones," he wiggled his ear to make example of it. "And then create new bone... Our bodies do this as well, of course, but skelegrow helps the process occur almost immediately. Because errr muggles do not use skelegrow, a cast will be made for their leg or arm or wherever the breakage happened... And the cast will keep the bones in place so that when the bone heals, it does so in the errr right position."

The vast array of answers was giving Finneas a THRILL! It was evident on his features with the big smile he wore. "Very good," he blinked a few times. "Stomach pumping is useful to clean out the stomach in case of poisoning, and errr other related troubles."
Finneas took a deep breath to fill his lungs with air before continuing. He was a little like a panting puppy, but that's what happens after you do a whole lot of speaking, apparently. Heh. He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts. Awkward silences were not so awkward to him.
AnYwAy.
"We can continue like this for days on end," he smiled widely. Really, he could. "But alas, we must continue forward with our lesson." He looked down to the ground with a sigh, before picking right back up. "Despite the myriad of reasons as to why a person may end up at a muggle hospital, there are a few commonalities that link every visit!" Much like their own visits to healers, yes. So many SimIlArItIeS! Muggles! They are just like us! "Namely, the errr primary assessment which is typically conducted by a nurse and or an assistant... This, er, initial assessment is a very necessary component of hospital visits because collecting general information about the patient can inform the doctor of any underlying issues and also errrrrr helps with classifying the severity and urgency."
He paused for a moment to let that soak. Actually, he was pausing because he needed to swallow back some spit, but it was really all the same thing. "During these initial assessments, nurses will look at the ~vital checkpoints~ and this will help give the doctor some context. Some of these vital checkpoints include a patient's temperature, heart-rate, respiration rate, and errrr blood pressure." He reached into his pocket for his fidget spinner. Unfortunately, he had left it in his office. Alas. "For our first activity, we will be checking these vital signs ourselves, using the tools that are used in hospitals!" Weren't they EXCITED?
He turned back to pull out a briefcase, much like the ones underneath their own desks, and opened it on his desk. Reaching into it, he pulled out one of THESE! "This is a stethoscope," he grinned SO BIG as he plugged it into his ears and wore it properly. "A doctor will use this to listen to the sound of a patient's heartbeat. You use it by placing this round end on the patient's back or chest, and have them take deep, measured breaths. And then, you listen for the beauty of life."
After pausing for a few seconds longer than necessary, he turned around again. Finneas hastily put away the stethoscope and traded it out for the NEXT device. "This funky looking thing," he turned around and dangled it in the air. "Is used to check blood pressure." Oooooooooh, ahhhhhhhhhh. "You just--er--you," he struggled with the velcro for a moment, but eventually managed to wrap the band around his arm. "It is worn like so... And then you take this end and pump," he demonstrated for the class. "As you pump air, the cuff will inflate, stopping blood flow. You can check this by using your stethoscope... If you did it correctly, you will err not be able to hear any sounds. Then, a valve will open and the pressure will slowly decrease and you will begin to hear sounds with your stethoscope! When that happens, take note of the number you see."
He turned around again, this time picking up their LAST item. "This is a thermometer. It is used to take body temperature." It wasn't too fancy, but worked well enough all the same. "Use this by placing the long metal end underneath the tongue. A number will show up on the screen after a few moments of waiting! And.... That's it!"
Make sense??? "Each of you have a briefcase underneath your desk," while they looked he flicked his wand, allowing each to unlock so that they could open them for themselves. "Inside each of these medical briefcases, you will find the three items we just went over. For the next fifteen minutes, I would like you to errrr find a partner and take turns checking their heartbeat, blood pressure, and temperature... Just as we have gone over. You can also come perform these three tasks on me, if you would like."
OOC: Hi my most sincere apologies for all of this text lol. I'm going to summarize below.
For this mini-activity you will:
1. Either partner up OR just use schmoe as your patient (he'll be up front and you don't have to wait for me to post to say that you're working with him, just assume that he's a v good patient)
2. Using the stethoscope, thermometer, and blood pressure pump check the heartbeat, temperature, and blood pressure of your "patient"
For this activity you will have until Jan 22 @ 4 pm EST (approx 60 hours), if not a little longer.

That look, that look made her feel like maybe she said something wrong, though it was more of a sympathy look... maybe? She was bad at figuring outlooks at times so she just let her eyes go to her parchment like she was studying her notes, even though she had none. For the next question, she just listened. Her mom at one time wanted to be a healer so there were books at home she had read, but they were talking muggle stuff, which wasn't hard for her either since her great grandparents were muggle and she knew the muggle world, as well as she, knew her own.
She didn't answer though, just stayed quiet. She didn't even correct someone for not using the exact terms that she knew, nope she wasn't going to do that, she just waited for the next part of the lesson.
Though she was ready to move on to the next part she wasn't ready for what the professor said. She listened and peeked under her table to see the case. It wasn't even that, that got her eyes to widen and her face to blush. Her green eyes had gone right to Kaiser, her face tomato red from her thoughts of a partner for this activity. Forcing her eyes off of him she chewed her lip and grabbed the case, as she tried to get brave enough to ask for a partner.

Claudine wasn’t sure but she thought that her answer might have somewhat stupefied Schmoe, though some of the other answers he had gotten might have been just as wrong as hers. But she nodded solemnly about medications, tablets and all the medical things. She continued to make notes, her pencil often flying across her page. She was interested in the fact that these vitals were taken. Was that how it worked at St. Mungo’s too? Claudine didn’t know, having never visited as a patient not had been around when any of her family members had.
The Snakette eyed the devices with skepticism. Really. Those contraptions really worked?Muggles could be very clever in inventing devices to help them in surviving each day. She wasn’t quite sure if she would remember how to use each but there came the time when she needed to work with someone. Ugh. These were the worst times for her.
She stared around the classroom, looking for someone who would be willing to partner with her, the not-so-social-girl. “Anyone want to partner with me?’’ Claudine asked, not so hopefully. If need be, she’d go bother Schmoe.

Schmoe could talk. A LOT. Whereas Isla had been distracted by all the 'errr's' he'd done before, she was now distracted with how much the man loved to talk. She did pay attention to what he was saying, though. Checking vital signs did seem kind of interesting. It was kind of like being a healer. Actually, she guessed it was just like being a healer, judging by what Schmoe had just said.
Isla sat with raised eyebrows as the professor showed them all the tools a muggle hospital used. Some of it seemed complicated, so she made a mental note to try and partner up with an older student if that's what they were going to do. So this was what that briefcase was all about! And yes, it turned out they were going to partner up after all! Alright, older students, where were you?
"Hey, Claudine!" she said, approaching the second year. Claudine was only a year older than Isla, but she seemed like she knew what was going on in all the classes. "Need a partner?"
Tom listened to the Professor as he spoke. He then turned to see if he could see anyone he knew Kaira so he smile as he went over to her. "Hey Kaira, fancy being partners?" He hoped she would say yes because if she didn't then well he wouldn't know who else to ask. He also knew about all the different equipment that was being mentioned, since he was muggle and had been to hospital a few times due to carelessness.

Apparently they weren’t enough to detour Isla. That was fine. It meant that Schmoe had one less student to worry about. “Hi, Isla.’’ Isla might be a first year but she was one who was always willing to learn. “I do. Let’s see what these contraptions can do.’’
Claudine eyed the said contraptions in the briefcase. “Do you want to test me first? Or should we do it the other way around?’’ She herself was fine with either and would let the firstie choose. As much as Claudine didn’t like socialising, when she needed to in order to get things done, she would do it. “I think we should have a textbook ready just in case we forget how to work these things.’’ She flipped through the pages, looking for today’s topic.

Trinetta normally would have immediately run up to Eiji for partner activities - especially for Muggle Studies, as they likely both would have found the activity a bit ridiculous - but they weren't on speaking terms quite yet. Also...he didn't take this class anymore. In fact, most of her friends didn't, which made these activities a bit awkward.
But she could partner with Chloe! Grinning, she hurried over to her dorm mate and plopped down next to her, oblivious to anything her friend was mentally going through at the moment. "Let's partner up!" she exclaimed.

See why Schmoe needed his TA, Bernadette O. Grantham, around? She KNEW THINGS he didn't even KNOW. And she was here to teach him, and the other wizard kids, and to help them have more of an appreciation and understanding for that Muggle life.
Here she was now, eagerly unlocking her Doctor Briefcase, so that she could go practice her Nursing skills on the professor himself. He looked like he could use a pepperup potion, but she wasn't sure what the Muggle equivalent of that was, so she'd need to run some tests on him to find out. Test #1: Find out what exactly was wrong with Schmoe.
Slinging her stethoscope 'round her neck, and with her thermometer and suitcase in hand she left the blood pressure cuff inside there, because honestly, she knew she scared the professor a lil bit and didn't want an inaccurate reading, the second year bounded up to the professor like a puppy who'd just seen a treat. "Sir! Sir! Can I take your temperature, sir!" It wasn't a question so much as a forewarning about what was to come next, as Bernadette stood on her tippy toes and stuck the metal end of the thermometer into Schome's mouth.
"Don't talk, now, sir, shshshhhhhshhshshshhhh, I need to get an accurate reading." She set her briefcase on the floor and whipped out her steno pad of field notes, which looked very similar to the one she'd used last year to interview this professor.

OH AMAZING. Phoebe tumbled out of her seat in her eagerness to get to her suitcase. She pulled it to herself and hugged it, even though she was still spilled into a pile of gangly limbs on the floor. "We're gonna be Healers for the day! I mean doctors! Who wants to be my patient? I'm an amazing doctor."
She sat up and carefully placed her suitcase on her seat, remaining on the floor. The suitcase deserved the good seat, right? The cute little lockies popped open, revealing the Muggle devices inside. Ooooo aaaaaah.

This whole 'getting brave enough to ask someone to partner up or make a group' thing was starting to get easier and easier. Isla was suddenly thankful that she wasn't shy, because she'd actually met some pretty cool people during partner and group work. She was glad when Claudine agreed to partner up...again, since they'd already worked together as a group at least once or twice before.
"Umm, well, I can go first, but just so you know, I don't really know what I'm doing," she said with a laugh. At least the three materials they'd be working with weren't anything that could seriously harm them if somebody, ahem Isla, was just experimenting with them. She nodded in agreement about the idea to use a textbook. She decided to get hers out, too, so they'd both have one at hand. Following Claudine's lead, she opened her textbook to the same page.
"How about the stethoscope first?" she asked, not really expecting an answer to that but just making a suggestion. Isla fumbled around with her briefcase until it was open and pulled out the stethoscope. Once it was out (and she was sure she'd grabbed the right tool), she put the ear pieces into her ear and held up the other end. Her eyes flickered back toward the textbook as she checked a few things here and there, and then she placed the circular end on Claudine's back. "Okay, take a few deep, measured breaths," she instructed. Whatever that meant...

Finneas was quite pleased that people were eager to partner up and test out some of the equipment. So pleased, in fact, that he hadn't noticed Bernadette bounding towards him until she was right there.
OOC: if you're not able to partner up with anyone because of time restraints, remember that you can still have your charrie use Finneas as their patient. You don't have to wait for me to post him and can just assume that he's gone along with the protocol ^^ There's AT LEAST 36 more hours for this activity.
SPOILER!!: Bernadette

In fact, he didn't have a chance to say even one word before a metal thermometer was being shoved towards his mouth. Very fortunately, he had opened his mouth in surprise making it very easy for the thermometer to poke inside. Though he didn't speak, he did make an uncomfortable sort of mouth sound as she applied pressure to the metal temperature stick.
Well.
It could have been worse.

Naya listened as the professor explained the assessment process that patient’s must go through at the hospital. It made sense, she supposed. Someone needed to get an idea of what was wrong with the patient so they could they could decide who they needed to see and what needed to be done. Annnnd, they needed to make sure that the sickest people went first.
The professor continued and showed the class some of the instruments that were used in a hospital. The big surprise was...........drum roll.............they got to be doctors for a day. So that’s what was in the briefcases. Naya was familiar with the instruments that the professor demonstrated. However, she had no idea how to take a blood pressure. Guess she was going to learn today. First though, she would need to find a partner to practice with.
Naya heard someone asking for a partner and turned to see a very enthusiastic Gryffindor making the request. Naya grabbed her briefcase, went over to her housemate and sat down next to her. “Hi, I’m Naya. Do you want to be partners?” This girl looked like a lot of fun.

Kaira smiled. 'Sure..let's ,' she said excitedly. She looked at these instruments. She had seen them before. She was muggle born, after all.
'You familiar with all this, obviously?,' she asked. Tom was muggle-born, of course he knew.

Oooh how interesting .... they were going to play the part of healer??? Taking a patient's vitals and for some reason Carsyn had the distinct impression that if people's blood pressure was higher than normal it was because of the ANXIETY involved in this protocol.
Stethoscope around her neck, the fifth year beat the thermometer lightly against the palm of her hand as she glanced around for someone to work with. Although she could check on Schmoe's vitals if necessary, once Bernadette was done with him. Would back-to-back readings be different? Temperature, she'd imagine should be the same, but pulse and blood pressure may change???
ooc: If anyone wants to claim us, feel freeeee to take our reading / have us consent ... and we'll be around to take your character's reading this evening <3 Also, we're cool with you making numbers but bear in mind she's a 15 year old relatively healthy female athlete, so the numbers should reflect that although if the blood pressure is slightly elevated due to anxiousness of the situation, that works for us too lol

But she could partner with Chloe! Grinning, she hurried over to her dorm mate and plopped down next to her, oblivious to anything her friend was mentally going through at the moment. "Let's partner up!" she exclaimed.
Her eyes were still locked on the case as she tried to make her cheeks less rosy. Hoping people might think it is makeup, even if it would be a horrible job at makeup, but anything was better than why she was red. It was only when she heard a friend's voice that she came back to reality. Turning her head she nodded not fully able to speak yet, words were hard for a moment.
Finally settling down she smiled, "Yes, let's work together." She opened her case and looked inside realizing she wasn't really clear what they were doing. After her distraction of finding a partner, she forgot what the professor had said.
"We are.... playing doctor?"
A giggle hit her, one she couldn't stop for some reason and she just kept giggling like she was 12.

SPOILER!!: catch up
Jillian smiled at Schmoe's response to her- well... uhh… response. The follow-up question does involve a more in-depth understanding with muggles and what injuries are considered as emergencies . Jillian, growing up with a pureblood father, she's does't know a lot of things BUT to her understanding it would be the same ainjuries with witches and wizards... only magic is involve. A lot of her classmates made good points. Mostly centered on broken bones and deep cuts. She nodded listening to all their answers. Fascinating.
She did raise her hand to give an answer too. One she's not too sure but she knows something like it could lead to something fatal. "Allergies, Professor." she said. "Some allergies can become fatal if not treated immediately and may lead to anaphylactic shock" she added.
As Professor Schmoe moved on to explain the activity they will be doing today Jillian paid more attention. She watched him take out whatever it is inside the briefcase. OOOOOHHHH the briefcase! She almost forgot about that. One by one he took out the materials needed for today and with his instructions, so did she.
She waited for her briefcase to be opened and when it opened she took note of all the names of these tools from earlier. The heartbeat thingy, the hearing stuff and the stick you put in your mouth to tell your temperature--- maaaan, muggles are odd people.
She looked around the classroom and tried to scout for a partner and when she saw Carsyn approaching Professor Schmoe. Jillian was too. She looked at her with her tools in each of her hand and smiled at the Gryffindor Prefect. "Hey, do you want to just partner up?" she said "Bernadette is still checking the Professor up".
Kaira smiled. 'Sure..let's ,' she said excitedly. She looked at these instruments. She had seen them before. She was muggle born, after all.
'You familiar with all this, obviously?,' she asked. Tom was muggle-born, of course he knew.
Tom smiled as Kaira said yes. "Yes, I've seen this and they've been used on me quite a few times. Tom laughed, it was true. He had been in hospital a few times and once even had to stay in. "So do you want to go first?" He thought it was only polite to let the lady go first.
Cassi stared at the Professor as he spoke, tilting her head every now and then to understand exactly what they were looking at. Once the bag under her desk was unlocked, she reached in, picking up the stethoscope first. She did just as Professor Schmoe, placing the ends into her ears and grabbing the round end.
THUMP!
Her finger hit the round part, causing Cassi to jump from the loud sound in her ears.
She thumped her finger again on the round part and giggled, running a finger along the smooth material as it echoed in her ears. She then brought it up to take a closer look at the material.
“This is…” she paused as she could hear her voice a little bit through the smooth round end.
“HELLO.”
Holy Harry Potter!
Too. Much. Fun.
She giggled once again as this item seemed to give her voice a megaphone sound within her ears.

“That’s okay. I’m not sure either. Muggle Studies is my worst subject.’’ That was mainly because she had grown up in a family of witches and wizards. Claudine nodded in agreement and while Isla readied her stethoscope, she did the same. But when Isla moved behind her, the second year remained still. Their textbook did mention that it should be done.
Deep breaths. Yes. That was mentioned too.
But how deep was… deep?
Claudine didn’t know but she really inhaled.
It sounded like an almighty SNIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
SNIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
Claudine did not realise that anyone and everyone close by could hear her.

Schmoe was such a quiet, good little patient, wasn't he? Opening his mouth and saying nothing; he was just so compliant. He reminded Bernadette of her big brother, only less st00pid. She wondered if she had a lolly in her briefcase for him after their doctor visit.
BEEP BEEP BEEP. BEEP BEEP BEEP. BEEP BEEP BEEP.
"Guess your temp is all done! Sir!" Bernie pulled the metal end out of his mouth and casually wiped the spit on her robes like it was nothing. She eyed the number on the thermometer and scribbled it down in her steno pad. "What's 103.7? Good or bad?" She glanced up at the professor for a longgggggg second and then grinned. "Only joking, Professor! You're a regular 98.6."
Yeah, she knew a few things about this medical stuff all because of her mum. But anyway, there was no time to waste. She had to check to see if Schmoe had a heartbeat. Without further ado, Bernie thumped the round end of the stethoscope on Schmoe's chest and plugged the ear pieces into her ears to give his ticker a listen.

Oh, hello, there. Phoebe dragged her attention away from her suitcase and smiled at the girl who was offering to be her partner. It was so nice to be wanted, wasn't it? She dragged the suitcase (yes, I know, briefcase) over to make room for the girl and her own supplies.
"I'm PHOEBE. Hi. I do want to be partners, yes. Thanks. Sit!" Phoebe grabbed up her stethoscope, then dropped it and grabbed up the blood pressure cuff. So many choices! So many options! Did they have time to try out all three? "Should we take turns trying out the stuff on each other? I want to... listen to your heart. Yeah. The stethy-thing.
She put it on like a necklace and held the drum up to her eye. "Hello, do I have your permission to touch you with my stethy-thing?"
