Now was a good time for a break. She'd been sitting at her desk too long today and that was her least favorite thing to do with her job. She liked the outside action must better, but of course... there was paperwork to be done.

January was holding Vic's hand as they walked into the food court. She wasn't terribly hungry for a snack, so she just led them to the juice bar and scoped out her options. "I've heard snakeweed tea helps improve your eyesight," she mentioned idly. Just in case he was wondering. She didn't much like the taste of it though, so maybe she would just stick with orange juice. Or tea.

January did those little gestures where she'd be back to her twenties teens years. Like holding his hand when they crossed the street, when they went to dates, when they walked into juice bars. Vic adored this, though, and he locked their hands tightly when she did that.

"Oh, I'll be needing that then." Vic commented with a cheeky grin, "Lotsa beautiful things to look at." Just saying. "Should we take something healthy or good-tasting?" Two very different cases.

Yeah, lots of beautiful things to look at, like fake windows and plain walls. January much rather preferred working outside. She eyed the drink selection one more time while she pondered Vic's question. "Well, you can drink whatever you like. I'm having orange juice." January paid her fee and took the juice while she waited for her dearest to decide.

"You'll be getting off on time tonight, right?" January asked casually. Because if he even HINTED at staying late or spending the night at work again, she was going to drag him out of this building by his ear.

Oh man, his woman was cute. Did she think he meant their surroundings? Vic guided her face to his for a gentle kiss, "I meant you, silly." SHE was the beautiful things. Seriously, wasn't he obvious in the last million times that he complimented her flaming hair and blazing eyes? Insane, he should increase the dose of flirtation in this relationship.

... hmm? Vic put on a very innocent face, "Yes, of course." A couple extra hours to make sure the archives for the day weren't messed up wasn't a problem, thooooough. He quickly turned to the bar and prepared his snakeweed tea.

Work. So much work. Kade retreated to the juice bar for a break, thinking that he'd just grab something and head back to his office. He was minding his own business, not really paying any attention to what was going on around him. But he got his coffee, though, and when he turned to leave that's when he saw them.

January. Being kissed. By someone who had to be that Vic guy. Kade debated leaving for a moment then decided that there was no point. He wanted to meet Vic, so what better time than now to do so?

He made his way over to them, casually sliiiding between them, coffee cup in hand like they were having a normal conversation between friends. "January!" He was all cheer and smiles. "Hey! Fancy seeing you here." He took a sip of his coffee then looked at Vic. "You must be Vic, yeah? Pleasure to meet you. I'm Kade. Kaden Fuller. I'm sure January's told you about me?"

Oh. Hi, Vic. Heheh. January grinned a little bit when he gave her a kiss. She had known he was talking about her, but she was trying to be humble. "Well, you better stop. I'll get a big head." Though a big head might mean more hair and January was fairly certain Vic wouldn't be opposed to more of her bright red hair, huh? Sometimes she wondered if he liked her hair more than the rest of her.

Sipping her orange juice, January watched Vic over the rim of his glass, eyeing that innocent look he put on. "If you get off before six I'll make dinner for you. Or you'll just have to--"

January stopped mid-sentence when a body suddenly appeared between them, interrupting their conversation. But it was just anybody. Oh, Merlin. It was Kaden. Jan's eyes widened for a moment as her voice and thought trailed off and her brain hit a dead end. He was all smiles, but January knew it was just an act, especially after their last meeting. Ugh. She could have gone her whole life in peace without Kaden and Vic meeting.

Sigh. But here they were.

"Kaden," she responded with a thin smile and a stiff nod. She was certain the vein in her forehead was going to pop out as soon as Kaden started talking to Vic. Oh, yeah, had she told Vic about Kade? Haha. How about hell no. January took the opportunity to start chugging her orange juice. Vic was smart, he could handle this.

Oh, Merlin.

She had him at dinner and-- what the hell. Vic's playful face dropped instantly when some guy slid between him and Jan. First off, they were apparently having a conversation, they weren't just randomly standing there. Second, the guy had obviously done it on purpose proved by what he said next. Third, Vic hadn't even had his tea yet and now he was forced to deal with a situation.

He took a brief glance at Jan who was seemingly choking herself with juice. No, she hadn't told him about any Kaden. "Must be all the names and clients in my head, I don't remember which Fuller you might be." Wasn't there a Fuller at Hogwarts? Was it this one? He didn't look like professor material. "Regardless, I'm sure the Fuller I'd be pleased to meet--" He grabbed the man's arm, and slowly pulled him away from his girlfriend. "--would know some manners." Do. Not. Interrupt.

Now Vic took the man's place by January.

Well. January clearly wasn't happy to see him. Which wasn't surprising. But she could at least pretend, like he was. That was the polite thing to do.

Kaden gave January a look before turning his attention back to Vic - who seemed even less happy to see him than January was. Kade raised his eyebrows as the man spoke and was about to give a snappy response when Vic moved him out of the way and took the spot next to Jan.

Jealousy was not an attractive color on him. Did he know?

"She didn't say anything about me?" Kade's cheerful tone was back and he looked at January with fake offense. Hopefully not too fake. "Well," he said, looking back at Vic and offering his free hand for a shake (see, he had manners), "Like I said, I'm Kaden Fuller. Specialty Division." In case he was wondering. "Jan and I dated." That was a lie. They'd gone on dates, but it had never become official. Because of Vic, actually. Details. "That's why I was surprised, see? I thought you two were close enough for the ex talk." Cue sympathetic head tilt.

Welp. Her orange juice was gone now.

Despite the anger and fury that was bubbling up inside of her, she felt rather smug the moment Vic grabbed Kaden's arm and pulled him away from her. It was kinda hot. January's face was turning a not-so-endearing shade of pink as Kaden babbled on about himself. As if he had been some important figure in her life. January tried to tell herself that he hadn't been so she and Vic wouldn't have to bring up the "ex talk". But you know what? Kaden didn't qualify as an "ex". He hardly qualified at anything at this point.

"We didn't date," she said slowly and meticulously. "So I hardly think that is any of your business." January finally lifted her eyes and stood up a little taller. As much as she adored Vic and his protective qualities, this was her battle to fight. And she'd do it with bare hands, whether she had to or not. "I do, however, think you should leave before I break your nose. Again." Hm? Didn't that seem like a good idea?

Vic was a patient man. "I heard you the first time." Kade was standing RIGHT there and everybody here had ears. So. Unnecessary repetitive guy should state his business. Jan and I dated didn't qualify as something they should be interrupted for, mainly because of the past tense.

Speaking of Jan, did she just emerge from behind Vic and tried to take VIC's battle into her own hands? Duly noted and added to the 'we need to talk' talk later. She broke his nose, though? Heh heh heh, he loved the woman, yes he did. Not that he let anything show on his face at the moment. At the moment, he looked at her and then back at Kaden. "Your concern about the extent of our relationship is really touching, but if you were of any significance to it, you definitely would've been mentioned." Since they were all sugarcoating their words. Well, all except the fiery red head right there.

This was a problem Kaden had been finding himself in very often lately, which was weird. And perhaps a coincidence. He'd do something on impulse and about halfway through he'd realize that it was a very, very stupid thing to do. By then, though, he couldn't just back out. So he had to take control of the situation and get out of it with his dignity still intact. It was tough, but he was up to the challenge.

He sipped his coffee casually and listened to the two of them, trying to hide the fact that Jan's threat and Vic's jab about him not being of any significance did sort of get to him.

More casual sipping. Until his coffee was gone. At least thirty seconds.

Kade set the cup down, cleaned it magically, then put it away all before turning to the people he was talking to again. "I'd rather keep my nose this way, thanks," he said, his eyes on January. "The slightly crooked look to it gives off just the right amount of bad boy. Another break would give off idiot, which I don't think I need help with." And no, he wasn't being hard on himself. Being an idiot was part of his charm.

And now to Vic. "Perhaps I haven't been mentioned yet," He said, his tone and expression cold and matter-of-fact, "because I was, in fact, very significant and she doesn't know how to broach the subject. I don't know. You could ask her."

He took a step back and held up his hands in a gesture of surrender. He was leaving. "I'll see you around, January. Probably. And I'd rather not see you, Vic, though it was nice to meet you." Kaden gave a friendly smile and a wave. "Enjoy your day. I've got to get back to work."

And he was outta there.

Well, all except the fiery red head right there.[/color]

For the first time in a while, January told herself that dating men who worked in the same building was quite the bad idea. But then she also had to remind herself that she and Kaden did not date. Kaden was just an idiot. And he kind of even just said he was, didn't he? Saying he didn't need help looking like an idiot by her breaking his nose again. Darn. She had "No, I think you're doing quite well by yourself," January added. He was also making her look bad, which was not what she wanted OR needed right now. Or ever.

January was trying her very best to remain calm and not throttle Kaden right then and there because she didn't think drop-kicking a man across the food court was considered acceptable workplace behavior. She didn't exactly appreciate Kaden telling Vic that she didn't know how to 'broach' the subject of him. January wanted to interject and tell both of them that it was that she didn't know HOW, it was that she didn't want to. She didn't need to! But before she blew up, January took a deep breath and remained silent. He wasn't worth her breath; she had learned that today.

She didn't want to see him around, not anymore, but she didn't say anything. She just let him walk away, him and his pride. After a few silent, slightly painful seconds, January turned to Vic. "I'm sorry." She sighed. "I didn't know...." What? Didn't know what? That Kaden could be such a jerk? Yeah, she did know that. She should have expected it. Perhaps she was just hoping that they went on their lives, never finding out who the other was. Perhaps she thought Kaden had a shred of decency in him after all that would have prevented him from talking to Vic like that. Or perhaps she simply thought this issue would never arise. She hadn't really considered it an issue until today.

"I'm sorry," she said again, because that was kind of the only thing that was coming out of her brain at the moment when the rest of it still wanted to yell at Kaden.

Vic stayed quiet. The man, the other man, seemed to get personally insulted-- or well, hurt even by January's words. Or Vic's words. Or whatever the heck was going on in his head. This was very interesting. He didn't wish to see Vic, again? That got a mild eyebrow raise from the prosecutor, simply because he hadn't said anything wrong at all. He hadn't offended the man the same way the other man had trespassed Vic's privacy. Not that he was bothered, or wanted to seek Fuller once again.

He left him leave.

And let out a long sigh as January started to apologize. Vic turned to look at her, he wasn't mad or upset, it was alright. He rubbed her arm gently, reassuring her. No need to spend the rest of her work day thinking about what he was going to tell her next, "We'll... talk. Later. Tonight. After work, I'll pick you up from your office." They needed to talk. This was the first challenge in a committed relationship. Vic wasn't even nervous, he knew what he wanted to say and what sort of boundaries and trust limits he desired from his partner. He simply wanted to know if she felt the same. And if she did, why did she keep this from him. This sounded recent enough even.

His sigh made her nervous, but the fact that he was rubbing her arm was slightly reassuring. She wanted to know what Vic was thinking, but she wasn't doing a very good job at figuring that out at the moment. Yeah, they would talk. She was sure they would now. January wanted to tell him that there was nothing to talk about, but she knew that would probably either make him suspicious or worry and she didn't want to do that.

"Okay," she finally responded. January grabbed his hand with a light squeeze. She didn't want to go back to work now. But at the same time, she wanted to bury herself in it and avoid that 'talk' at all costs. "I'll see you in a few hours." January leaned forward and kissed Vic on the cheek briefly (just in case he thought she was a HORRIBLE person and didn't want a real kiss at that moment).

Would it be bad if she apologized again?

Vic kept her hand in his, though he was thinking about getting his tea after all this trouble, ya know. But no problem, he held on to her hand and when she gave him a cheek kiss, he didn't mind but he also wasn't pleased enough. "Later." He pecked her lips before releasing her hand, since she seemed to be ready to leave.

He'd just.. hang out here for a little longer. Drink the tea that was good for eyes, probably.
