Sure, she'd miss her previous occupation, but she knew it was best for both Cassie and herself to be here. On top of that, the summit was very interesting and, basing on the brochure she received when she entered the venue, she was to meet her former Astronomy professor too. It also included various potions-related topics, which further sparked her interest to attend a few of them.
The former head girl found herself drawn to the beautiful garden outside. Having taken Herbology as a minor in Wizarding University, Kat couldn't help but mentally classify some of the plants. There were lots of mundane ones, and those magical ones she liked to deal with when she was still studying. But what caught her eye the most was a familiar face. The blonde took a moment to register who it was, before a smile slowly crept on her face and made her way to the woman. "Good day, Professor," she said, with emphasis on the title that the woman used to hold.
To be honest, it was a relief to see someone she knew from here. It had been a long time since she saw her former Arithmancy professor.

They had gotten separated in the crowds including the loud noisy people out in the atrium.
Addison had to fight the urge to shake his head and chuckle at his inquisitive son. “We’re here to learn…” he answered, his hand on the boy’s shoulder as they walked. “…and listen to your aunt speak…well tomorrow.” Today was pretty open on the schedule for them. But also left no definite direction were Fina was. “And they’re unhappy about the way things are and what others say so they’re trying to get their opinions out to everyone here.” Not that it looked like may were anywhere interested in what the protestors had to say.
Ah…look, there was his wife.
Talking to someone who no doubt was a former student of hers. So Addison chose to approach the duo quietly so as not to just interrupt. Septimus not so much.
“Mom!”
While awaiting for her boys to finally arrive, Josephina blinked as she heard a voice addressing her as professor. And it wasn't that she was offended by that, as she had taught for nearly fifteen years at Hogwarts alone, but the fact that someone still recognized and addressed her as 'Professor' was what struck her most, because it had been almost eight years since she resigned from her role at Hogwarts. Which meant, the student in question was no longer a student.
And Josephina would be lying if she didn't remember her previous students, particularly those of noteworthy leadership positions such as Head Girl. Even though Katrina Hudson had not been one of Hufflepuffs, the girl had made quite the impression in Arithmancy, which was definitely enough for the brunette to remember the blond by. "Miss Hudson. It's been awhile! What have you been up to?"
Also, those activists? Were really adamant, weren't they? Surely Alex wasn't that insane when it came to the environment and climate control, was she? Ah, there was her husband, explaining ever so patiently to their son. "Septimus!" She grinned back, he was such an intuitive young boy. "Addison. Hello," she greeted of her husband, before turning back to the blond in their presence.
"Katrina, I don't know that you've met my husband? Addison Nairne. And this is our son, Septimus, who if memory serves me right, was born right around the time you were graduating, I believe. When did you graduate again?" At least she thought she might have been pregnant and missed Katrina's final feast, but she might have been off a year. Time flew like that. "Septimus. Addison. This is Katrina Hudson... quite the stellar Arithmancy student," Fina praised. Stellar student all around, but only Arithmancy was of utmost concern, as she'd spent most of her adult career focused around that subject.

Armand sighed as the speech came on, shaking his head. "It would seem they have a poor view of muggle/wizard interaction. And I've heard some of their views from muggles before. Quite contradictory if you ask me." What were they talking about again? Ah yes, returning to the Ministry. "I don't know where I'll go when I return. Accidents and Catastrophies didn't really appeal to me. I was PART Supervisor there, and to be honest I don't even remember what that stood for."

It's just that the environmentalism that the Ministry is trying to sell you here one: isn't true environmentalism. It's not ripping up the real, natural grass that's growing out of the ground and replacing it with fake grass made from tires and who knows what else just avoid using pesticides and herbicides or a little bit of mowing. It's not casting spells on trees just so they grow quicker than what nature intended just so you can have some shade or being vegetarian or vegan just because you heard some whacky rumor that cows help contribute to global warming. It's about caring for the planet you have by reusing and recycling, using stuff made out of recycled materials, conserving water and electricity anyway you can (within reason), finding cleaner ways to get said electricity and finding natural solutions to our bug and weed problems.
Secondly, some of the things suggested here put us at risk of being exposed to the Muggles. Which not only violates the International Statue of Secrecy, but puts us in great danger. Because, as much as the Ministry may want to deny it, Muggles are not our friends. I mean, just look at how they treat those amongst themselves who are different! And just as they have in the past, if they knew about us, they would turn that hate over and use it to persecute us into the ground.
So, these are the reasons we are here to protest today. Not because we don't love our environment, but because we do." And with that, Butch turned off his mic and stepped off the stage while his friends moved in to take down the stage.
These activists stopped their air horns just long enough for Butch's speech to be heard. But the minute it was over, they ALL let out a big, long "TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooOoooOOOOOT!" of their air horns in agreement and celebration loud enough that it was probably heard in the other rooms as well. Go Butch!

Great
Interesting speech. Not that it matter since those air horns where really really annoying.
Alexander needed a drink.
Livvy was about to introduce herself, and ask this man where he worked - maybe he was a co-worker! - when she was very RUDELY interrupted by a loud air horn, and before she knew it, those activists were in the area, shouting nonsense and making her roll her eyes. "Oh bloody hell," she grumbled, tugging on her earlobe to make sure she could still hear out of it. She was all for expressing one's opinions - but not in the most ANNOYING way possible.
She didn't really listen to a whole lot of what the protestors were saying - they had really turned her off with that stupid air horn - but then she heard them say something about muggles and how they were not their friends. Really? THAT was what they were going with? What was this, the 1990's? She sighed and turned to the one making all the noise, putting her hand on her hip.
"Could you please take your terribly outdated opinions elsewhere? Thanks," she snapped at him before turning back to her conversation.
"ANYWAYS, I'm Olivia. I'm new to Level Three," she told her acquaintance, smiling at him and trying to ignore the protestors behind her.

That attitude earned Miss Olivia an air horn blast to the face (and by 'blast' they meant 'toot'). "You're never going to get anywhere with that mind closed like that, sweetheart." he told her. 'Cause it was totally obvious that she hadn't listened to a word Butch had said. Sad, truly.
Armand sighed as the speech came on, shaking his head. "It would seem they have a poor view of muggle/wizard interaction. And I've heard some of their views from muggles before. Olly nodded, agreeing with what he was saying. "I do hope we work more closely with the Muggle world on this issue, though." They couldn't solve this climate change issue on their own. Not only was it impossible but - as the activists were suggesting - it also wasn't fair. Not that she agreed with them on the fact that THEY, as a wizarding community, shouldn't be doing anything to counteract the environmental issues.
It would do nobody any good if they were all dead but hey, at least they had been right.
As for his work in Accidents and Catastrophes, Olly shrugged. Honestly, she had neither knowledge nor interest in most of the other departments. As long as they had nothing to do with her own. "If there's a position available in DERP when you get back, you could come work with us." He was a Herbologist after all.
Now that he was past the protestors he could finally enjoy himself. He had hoped Eryn would be with him this evening, but having young children he understood why she couldn't. He had decided going to the outdoor garden would be a nice place to relax a moment before the next speaker had come on. The first was interesting, but he was waiting for a few of the others.
Walking out he took in the scenery. It was very pretty out here. The ministry did a great job finding the place. The Venu was always the hardest, but this pick was spot on.
He couldn't believe how well it worked with the topic of the conference. What better way to show earth friendly than plants all around you. Deciding he would take a little stroll through the area he started off, but stopped in front of a plant to take a look.
Harper wasn't much interested in plants and all that jazz, and even though she cared for the environment as much as the average Witch, she was more attending the event to ~experience~ it. She'd only been working for the Ministry for a month or so, and was glad she could experience an event of this scale before she had to work at one, which she knew was definitely going to be part of her job. A part she was pretty excited for, too.
"Afternoon," she said with a grin, surveying the rather pretty gardens on her walk. She didn't exactly know what the plant he was looking at was, though.

"I do think working with the muggles on environmental issues is a good idea. I can be a little tricky on how to go about it. Potions and charms would be out, after all. So it takes people with good knowledge of muggle technology and science to help make those kinds of advancements." He actually knew quite a bit about it, though not enough to truly help. Maybe if he had gone to a muggle school...
He nodded at the idea of working in DERP. "That's not a bad idea. With some luck, perhaps I will be able to apply there."

Eyes for you, activists. And just what did they think they were doing in here? This was supposed to be a place of environmental awareness -- sure, they probably were here for the same reason because they were activitists -- but did they have to publicly protest? Katrina Hudson was simply going to ignore them, but sent one last subtle glare before looking back at her former professor with a smile.
Oh, Merlin. It had been so long since someone addressed to her as Miss Hudson, except for the occasional formalities in her work and in business. She couldn't help but smile. What a miss, Hogwarts. She loved that school to the very core. "It has been a while, Professor. Years, even!" A lot of years, to be exact, since she graduated. Kat was getting the old vibes. "I just recently applied for the Ministry, got accepted into the Environmental Regulation and Protection department. How are you, Professor?" She wasn't sure if she was supposed to talk about being engaged and having a kid, too, until....
Look at that cutie! And was he Professor Hadley's son? Kat waved a finger at the little boy and smiled at him. "Hello there, sweetie." And Kat could make out the connection. The man was most likely her Professor's husband. Well, she didn't know she was married? Didn't seem like it when Kat was still a student? Wow, time flew by too fast. "Good day, sir, it's a pleasure to meet you," the blonde greeted him with a sincere smile. Was it okay to call him sir? After all, he was older than her. She'd have to get used to acting like an adult. In fact, she had been an adult for a loooong time already, yet she still got the occasional weird urge to be young. "I have a daughter, too, Professor. Too bad I wasn't able to bring her here today." Kat left Cassidy with her sister, Dianna. Cle was at Quidditch practice, so it was the best way for them both to focus on work. It would have been fun for Cassie and little Septimus to meet. Merlin knew just how hyper her little redhead child could get!
N'awww shucks, did Professor Hadley really have to be so flattering? "I was taught by an awesome professor, so there is no doubt on that," she said with a wink. Despite her being the former Hufflepuff head of house, Kat had quite much respect for Professor Hadley. She was the only truthfully skilled professor in Arithmancy she ever had. That old Santa look-alike Professor French was no where near competent, and it was a shame he taught the subject for her seventh and final year. "Proud to be part of the class of 2082, Professor." And then it hit her. It had been 11 years since then.
Katrina Marie Hudson was OLD.

Jenna had considered inviting some of her Magizoology uni friends to this event, but a lot of them had plans, and she kind of...felt like going alone for once. She wasn't entirely sure why, but it seemed like something she needed to do. To get outside her (very, very) small circle of friends and do something on her own for once.
So here she was, a tiny bit overwhelmed by the amount of people and noise that was here. Especially by those activists. What were they here for? For or against something? Jenna had tuned them out a bit when she'd first arrived, drawn immediately toward the garden area. It wasn't completely free of people and noise, but it felt...a little bit calmer at least.
She just needed a breather while admiring the scenery here. Just enough to get her bearings again so she could focus on the speakers she wanted to hear.
But...

...and instantly striking a nerve.
"Look at how they treat those amongst themselves who are different!"
How they treat those who are different? How just the Muggles treat others? This was one of the claims they wanted to use to prove their point? Really?
Jenna, normally, didn't start or join conflicts or disagreements. It was too confrontational, and she much preferred a more subtle, behind-the-scenes approach. But there were a few rare things that she would fight over, and this was one of them.
"As if Muggles are the only one who mistreat others who are different," she said, glaring at the nearby activists since she couldn't get to the main speaker from all the way over here. "Wizards have mistreated other wizards for ages because they were different or their family tree included Muggles. Just look at how you are talking about Muggles as if they're inferior just because they can't do magic, because they're 'different'. Muggles aren't the only ones capable of being completely awful people."

The activist were proving to be exhausting, but for the most part, he felt the conference was going very well. Erec was enjoying himself and hoped everyone else was as well. He had been thinking about going to find Mariel and Ethan when he noticed a familiar face and headed over towards her.
"Hello Harper, are you enjoying the day?" He always took the time to speak to his employees and seeing as Harper was a new employee he wanted to make sure she was doing well and adjusting well. He had placed a lot on their shoulders coming back a month ago, and he knew that it was lots of work. He hoped that this conference was a chance for them just to enjoy and learn about their environment.
