 In close proximity to the library lies the study hall. Whether you are a first year or a seventh year, a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, a boy or a girl, this room is the best place to go for your studying and homework completion needs. If you ever find yourself stuck on something or have no clue what you're doing, you can always ask those who you are studying with for help or the professor that is overseeing the study session.
Scattered around the room are groups of desks that make it perfect for you and your friends to collaboratively work together. Average-sized oil lamps have been strategically placed on the desks to create a calm, comfortable environment. In a neat pile in the centre of the desks are extra quills, bottles of ink, and spare parchment should you need it -- just remember to leave the quills and ink at the table and only use what you need for parchment. Under the windows a long bookshelf containing a copy of textbooks for each class can be found, which you are welcome to use during your time in this room.

Ivy usually preferred the library or the common room to complete her homework in - or outside on the grounds when it was warmer - but today she wanted a change in scenery, and the study hall was the perfect place. Despite the general atmosphere of Hogwarts this term, it was still a relatively comfortable spot, at least for this purpose.
She selected a desk on one side of the room and set her textbook on the desk and her bag on the floor next to her chair. Then, after flipping the book open to the chapter she was planning to read, she rested her chin in her hand, her eyes skimming over the first couple of paragraphs...and her mind already wandering.
Merlin, she needed to take take her mind off of things and focus, but instead her mind just kept directing its attention back all those things. Sigh...

Looking for her boyfriend, Gabrielle tried a lot of the sensible places - including the study hall, because Leighton was good and amazing and would probably still find some time to study just in case NEWTs were still going to go ahead. Unlike her, who had no desire to take them before everything that had happened... happened.
It wasn't her usual place, and Leighton wasn't there, so Gabrielle was about to leave when she noticed the rather distracted looking younger girl. And for SOME reason it was this term that she'd started to feel obligated to look out for the younger kids, so she couldn't just walk past. Standing over her, the seventh year chewed her lip for a moment before speaking.
"Are you okay?"

She blinked as she was jolted back to reality. Merlin, her eyes were a little dry now. Had she been staring blankly at the page for that long?
Either way, she glanced up and saw the older girl standing there. "Oh, yeah, I'm..." She paused. The typical reflex response of "I'm fine" felt even more hollow than usual, considering everything. "I'm as okay as I can be, I guess," she finally said with a small shrug. It felt like the most honest response she could give - and being honest when you could felt even more important this term, what with all the lies they had to speak so much of the time in lessons. "Just makes it hard to focus on homework sometimes."

As for the homework comment, that elicited a laugh from the seventh year. "Honestly, I haven't been bothering to do it. If they want to give me detention, whatever. If they want to kick me out.... Please, I hope they do."
She was pretty sure the majority of the teachers weren't actually that bothered about things like homework right then, as long as students were, you know, safe. At least, she hoped they weren't. The idea of stuff as meaningless as that being forced on them... Well, it didn't bare thinking about.

The older girl's next comment about homework did make Ivy chuckle, a brief smile crossing her face. "Good point. Though...I'm not sure I'd wanna find out what kinda detention would be given out this term." Assuming they didn't just hand out their punishment before then, which seemed more their style unfortunately...but she wasn't going to think about all of that right now.
"But also...sometimes the homework isn't so bad." Outside of certain things that were added this term. "Even when it's hard to focus, it is still something to focus on...if that makes any sense." It made sense in her head at least. There wasn't a lot she could do about anything this term, but she could do homework, so at least it felt like she was accomplishing something. And hopefully getting smarter and stronger along the way, so maybe, eventually, she could actually be useful and help get these creeps out of here.

Not all of them seemed overly keen on the Alliance's new order, after all. Though now she thought about it, a worried look crossed her face and she chewed at her bottom lip. "Maybe I should turn something in, after all.
"I get that," she agreed, nodding understandingly. "You've got to focus on something, or you'll just get overwhelmed by how awful everything is." For her, it was the World Tour (tm) and Leighton. If the younger girl had homework, then Gabrielle would encourage that until she was hoarse.

"I'd just be nervous about if they'd be forced to include the Inquisitorial Squad in the detention." The professors were doing what they could, and Ivy didn't hold anything against them right now, but they weren't ultimately in charge this term. They were forced into playing along just as much as the students were...
"But I guess they also might not care too much about homework. I'd assume the Alliance has more things to worry about than whether we write an essay on Gamp's Law of Transfiguration or whatever." A little attempt at positivity? But maybe it was true. It was one thing for them to be forced to obey during the lessons, but it was another to constantly monitor their homework completion rate. So...maybe it was okay.
Ivy nodded. "Exactly, yeah." Homework helped, and so did painting, and...well, photography would be helpful too, but... Yeah. "What do you focus on?"
