 For those who belong in Gryffindor House, on the left side of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Red banners containing an embroidered golden lion float above the polished table in honour of the brave Godric Gryffindor. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.
Though your stomach might be growling as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmaster Winterbottom to deliver his speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

After five years, Charlie was long since over it. A birthday spent stuck on the school train; yeah, sure, it was annoying, but more annoying were those who complained about their problems and did a whole lot of nothing to fix them. He'd made his own entertainment, as he so often did, seeing as what was on offer was seldom up to his standards.
Maybe it was a bit annoying that the day that he turned of age was also the day he returned to school, where he was permitted to do magic anyway. Sure, maybe that would be annoying for those tragic souls in muggle households who lived under the thumb of the Trace, but for him, the only real loss was having to wait to take advantage of doing untraceable magic further afield, and he'd always made do without it so far.
So yeah, not really complaining as such. Just not really celebrating either, just sort of over it, though perhaps that was strange for someone in his shoes. He knew he was expected to make a big deal out of the fact he'd survived another year, especially when it had seemed more unlikely than ever that he wouldn't make it to this... milestone, and no one really expected him to make it to the next. Bit childish though, really. Birthdays.
There was just the feast to get through now. Charlie wasn't too enthused about this either, but nor was he tempted to go off in a sulk and avoid the thing entirely. Still, it sometimes served to have something on hand that could ostensibly disguise a general lack of regard, or else be an obnoxious sign of that exact same thing, depending on who looked his way. Bringing a book to the feast to actually read was pretty much out of the question; he didn't have a chance of getting through more than half a page in such an environment, so it would be little more than an ornament. The book Charlie had brought with him was a simple leather-bound sketchbook, something he could easily work in until he found something else, or someone else, more entertaining. He sat at the end of the table doing just this, glancing up and around at the inhabitants of the Hall every so often, before going back to one careless sketch or another.

On her way to the Gryffindor table, Kayla’s attention was captured by a commotion at the Slytherin table. Some slightly older girl yelling about hexing something then toppling over backwards? Anyway, the whole thing screamed of delicious drama and she was sorry it wasn’t happening at the Gryffindor table which seemed completely dull by comparison. Still, she continued over to her house’s table, where she plopped down. Not without a yell across to the other table, though.
”Oi, shinobi, I thought you guys were supposed to land on your FEET!!!!!!
Yes, good one Kayla. Good for you. As for her own table? Was she the only first year Gryffindor? That meant she got a whole room to herself, right? Wasn’t that the way this whole thing worked? And was that Professor Amstern from St. Woboldo’s up there on the dais? She got a brief wave before the first her attention back to her own table.
”Hello, everyone!” she greeted. And yes, she was who you thought she was.
