Default Flea Market Date: Jonathan Bennett and Stefanie Kay Gerlovich

As you approach the open village square, the quiet roar of shopper chitter-chatter and the haggling of prices might alert your sense to the fact that you're at a flea market. But if your ears don't do the trick, then perhaps your nose will pick up on the scent of fresh caramel corn being popped, juicy hot dogs roasting on a grill, or even fresh lemonade being squeezed and sweetened by some of the vendors toward the back of the market.

Other than the refreshments offered to keep shoppers at the market all day, there are a wide variety of items available for purchase; sunglasses, bags, scarves, jewelry, handmade whistles and harmonicas, porcelain statues, 'as good as new' china, antiques, children's toys, wooden furniture, bolts of cloth, and a variety of other random items that could keep you there for hours on end.

Take your time browsing and remarking at the prices but beware: all is not as it seems and depending on the vendor, some prices are non-negotiable for a reason.

She'd heard of a flea market that was in the village square for a few days. She hadn't gotten too far when she could already smell popcorn and hot dogs. She didn't eat either much, but loved them, just didn't think they were all that healthy! Breathing in the smells though she had a feeling she'd be breaking that soon, and eating a few bags of caramel corn and a hot dog as well!

Her hand brushing over one of the racks of shawls, she lifted one from the rack holding it up against herself looking down at how it looked. Mirror...? Her eyes roaming around and peering around the corner of the rack she spotted a full length one behind it between two tables. Walking around the rack she stood infront of the mirror holding the shawl up against herself again her eyes being drawn to a set of earrings on the table to her right.

She knew she should be looking for the guy she was supposed to meet there, but there were sooooooooooo many things to look at!

Jonathan was seriously going to pay back a certain someone, well a couple of certain someones for what they had done. Did Simon and Aurora really think he was THAT lonely that they submitted his information to a matchmaker. A MATCHMAKER! Did they ever think that maybe the life and work of an auror simply made a love life hard to establish unless you had the luck to fall for a coworker? A complicated mess in its own right.

Sigh.

Relax...its just a blind date there, Bennett. You've faced dark wizards and criminals, this should be a peace of cake.

And it was after all a simple gathering at a...flea market, which was something he wasn't familiar with in any way. But it did seem to provide a way of escape if need be seeing as it was open, and a market. Maybe if he chickened out he could simply vanish into the crowd...no that would be rude to the woman who had been paired with him.

Okay so there was a reason Simon was the only one sorted into Gryffindor in regards to relationships.

Jonathan took a deep breath when he finally arrived at the open square and the quaint market held within. He had the vague idea he was looking for a woman around his age but that left much to be found out. So the auror simply started to wander along an aisle, his eyes glancing at various items he spotted as he moved slowly between a few venders.

Bent over the table still looking closer at the earrings she jumped when an irritated person came over asking if she was going to buy the shawl or not. "Yes, yes of course." Wait she'd not even looked in the mirror with it on! Well, what would it hurt if she didn't like it she could give it to Ali or her younger cousin. Taking out the money she paid the person and gave them the hanger.

As she took out her money the picture fell from her pocket as well. Oops! Right she was supposed to be looking for someone. Taking her shawl she wrapped it around her shoulders pulling her hair from underneath it. Oh, picture...right bending down she picked it up and looked at the face again. Hmmm, her eyes wandered around at all the people around her. The necklace! Eyeing the table again she nibbled her lip shaking her head she decided she would think about it.

Now, this person would be there...right? Her hair now curled over her shoulder she started walking around tables again now actually looking at the people more around her. Turning she thought she spotted someone maybe who looked like the picture when she backed into someone else.

Jonathan was batting a thousand spotting anyone who appeared to be his date, or even finding anything really of interest as he wandered around the flea market. Oh he sooo should have remembered to bring the picture with him but had figured he'd be able to remember the face. It was a skill of his profession after all. There were all sorts of items on tables and displays including a few that made him back away slowly and smile weakly at the person behind it.

Really...who would want a semi-used sketchbook that had supposedly been used by a famous Flemish artist? The woman's grandchild more likely if the quality of the drawings were any indication.

He was just turning from one stall to head to another when he came face to face...or rather upper back of head to face with a woman as she backed into him. "Woah...might want to be careful of others when you move, especially backwards" he replied as he reached out instinctively to lightly grab her arms in case of falling. The auror letting her go once he was sure she was stable.

No, the person couldn't be one of the people behind the table. Could he??? Shaking her head she figured probably not, because that'd be a bit awkward. Hey, nice to meet you. Be right back gotta help a customer! Yeah, the guy couldn't be the person in the photo. Ok, now how on earth did you find the person when you didn't even have their name!

This was just weird. What was she supposed to do, ask people if they had seen the person in her picture? She was about to turn around when she bumped into someone who started speaking to her. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" she said startled catching herself before falling, then turning to face the person. She'd noticed his hand momentarily smiling at the kindness.

"I...I thought I saw..." Wait saw him? The picture in her hand, she thought looked quite remarkably like the person infront of her. "The person in the picture I got." She finished. Ok, now that sounded just weird. "I mean, I'm supposed to be meeting someone...here." Duh, people usually didn't go to flea markets alone, right? Normally Ali went with her, but well Ali didn't know she was going to meet someone as a blind date.

She'd probably think Stef was being a bit flighty again and too trusting. "I'm Stef." she said with a smile. Ok, maybe she was too trusting.

Jonathan waved off her apology, offering a small polite smile in return. "Its alright. No harm done," he assured her since it was true. Had he not been paying attention and she had managed to shake his tall muscular frame and cause them both to fall, then yeah there might have been some injury. As she continued to speak with broken sentences, he couldn't help but raise a slight eyebrow in curiousity. However as he got a good look at the woman and as the look of reconization appeared to cross both their faces it all started to make sense to him. In randomly looking for his intended companion in the crowded place, he had literally stumbled upon her.

Or rather she had stumbled into him.

"I think...that person is supposed to be me," he remarked after she shruggled to get out an explaination for the pseudo-crash. No sense in denying anything or prolonging the mystery. At least it seemed he wasn't the only the one who appeared to be nervous. "Hi. I'm Jonathan," he added temporarily debating what do do next before finally offering a hand.

"You?" Well actually that made sense since the picture did bare a very good resemblance of him. Ok, his name was Jonathan, they knew that much about each other. She'd wondered if maybe she'd be stood up, she didn't know many who would go on a blind date. She did because she'd actually put it in for herself. She wanted to actually meet someone here in England!

"Well, erm." Looking around them she wondered what next. "Shall we uh, get some lunch of sorts and get to know each other better?" she asked turning back towards him. That was the point to this, right? She'd noticed he was just slightly taller then her, which she liked A LOT, since most guys she'd been around had been either waaaay taller or shorter then herself. She preferred someone more her own height. She also liked the way he looked the first thing she'd noticed was his hair. She always looked at the hair and the eyes. And his eyes were gorgeous!

She wondered how old he was, couldn't really be much older then her, maybe he was younger, she wasn't sure.

"Yes me," Jonathan confirmed with a nod as she questioned him. Was he that much of a surprise from what was expected? Though the photo he had noticed she held was no doubt her companion photo to the one he himself had been given so it was already proof that he wasn't lying. He took the moment or two to look the woman over, mentally comparing her to his own photo back home. The man noting the fact that at least there wasn't too much of a height difference which often made things ackward between him and women.

That was a plus.

"I suppose we shall," the auror agreed "Anything in particular come to mind? Or smell particular good to you?" he asked leaving Stef the option since for where they might head. He was open for anything as long as it wasn't tooo out there and his companion certainly appeared more comfortable in their chosen location. Might as well take a chance anyway.

Nodding she sniffed the air again, "Hmmm, well hot dogs sound good." she replied with a small laugh. "Well smell good anyway. Anything you would rather prefer?" She loved them knew they weren't good for her but still ate them on occasion. "Well the caramel popcorn smells good but I wonder if they might have any pretzels here."

"So where are you from?" she asked brushing her hair over her shoulder as she turned towards were the food booths were. That was a good starting question, right? Well, he might be a Brit or even a Scot or possibly like she, something completely in another part of the world! Why was it hot dogs smelled so good on a grill? Her mouth was watering now just from the smell of them cooking and the thought of one for lunch!

Turning her head slightly towards him to look at him again, she smiled softly waiting for his answer. So far he'd been a gentleman from what she'd seen. She liked that about a guy!

"They do...don't they?" Jonathan questioned rhetorically, having smelt them since he had gotten to the flea market. "Well then hot dogs it is. They're as good an option as any. Shall we..." he mused motioning with an outstretched arm for them to both head in the direction of where said smell was clearly eminating from. His other limb slipping to the other side of Stef though clearly not touching the woman. Just sort of absently guiding her and himself in the one direction.

"England...more specifically north Lancashire," he answered as they started to walk. Activity set it motion...check. First bit of personal information other then name...double check. So far so good though he supposed they were in safe territory as of yet so not much to worry about."And yourself?" the auror asked returning the question to be fair. He couldn't place it but something in her voice gave him the feeling she was a transplant from outside Britain.

Subconsciously she could sense the arm near her other side, but didn't make note of it. It felt nice to have that little gesture. She'd spent so much time in school both before getting her NEWT's then on for becoming a professor hopefully one day, that she'd not really spent much time looking for someone to spend time with. A smile played at her lips as they headed for the food vendors.

Nodding as he responded to her question. North Lancashire, so in England as he'd said "Russia, just south of St. Petersburg, but spent the last 10 years in England." Well, much of it in France at Beauxbatons, but her home had been in England. So that'd be the right way to put it right. Your home usually wasn't where you went to school... "Did you go to hogwarts then?" she asked looking over at her companion as they walked.

Jonathan continued to listen as they walked, keeping his eyes between Stef and their surroundings. He didn't want to ignore his date but he didn't want to lead them into a table, display or even another person or persons. One collision per date he believed was all that was allowed. Ah...that made sense. The auror inclining his head in acknowledgement at what she was telling him. Russian, blurred a bit by the time spent she had spent in England.

And you're over-analysing things a bit.

Sigh. Always nice to berate oneself but it was the truth. He was being too much of the trained auror that he was when he really should just let it go and enjoy the dat--day without the stricture. And then she was asking about his schooling and about Hogwarts and Jonathan found himself drawn back to answer questions. "Yeah I did," he answered with a nod. Hard to believe at times it had been eight years since last he stepped with said castle.

"What about you? Did you go to Beaubaxtons?" He might have included Hogwarts as a guess as well but with only ten years in England it was only likely if she had spent part of her time schooling there. The French school seeming more likely.

He appeared quite quiet, and content to just answer questions and ask a few of his own. She didn't mind that, she wasn't much of a talker herself really. Her little niece made up for that quite well. So he was from Hogwarts! A smile appeared on her face when he asked if she'd been at Beauxbatons. "Good guess, yes I did. My mum and dad didn't really want me at Hogwarts so they sent me to Beauxbatons." She hadn't really minded where she went, but knew that both schools were very well recommended.

She did wonder what made him guess Beauxbatons though. Did she look that stuck up? She felt many of the girls there had been like that, but she'd been quite the odd one out of the group. More into what fit well and what was more comfortable. Not showing off whatever she got during holidays and such.

She still didn't know how old he was, must be around her age, but wasn't sure. You never could be too sure unless you outright asked. And wasn't that rude to do? Well, hmm maybe a question that might give her an idea. As they reached the short line of people waiting their turn for hot dogs she turned to him again "So what have you done since school?" she asked curiously.

Jonathan tilted his head ever so slightly as he registered her smile only then followed up by an answer to the affirmative confirning his guess of Beaubaxtons. "Ah...well yeah Hogwarts isn't every parents first choice I guess," he replied before realizing it might sound a little stuck up of him about his own school. "I mean every school has its plusses and good in their own way else they wouldn't all exist," Jonathan added quickly trying to try and save himself. He wasn't even thinking on the reasons why his guess or assumption may have seemed even a little judgemental. Not that he had meant it in any way like that....he had simply deducted it by the information he had been given.

Great going Bennett...

And as much as he seemed good at putting things together, the auror wasn't thinking that the questions directed his way had any other meaning other then curiousity and getting to know the person that they had each been paired up with. "Training for a while..." he answered as they waited on the line at the hot dog vendor, turning to keep his attention on his companion but keeping track of things in front of them out of the corner of his eye. "And then working cases as an auror." That was a revelation that could go both ways good or bad from his experience. Either people who were turned off by having a law man around or being so into what they thought was an extremely exciting yet dangerous occupation.

Jonathan was about to return the favor asking the question of Stef when the vendor cleared his throat lightly to get their attention, the auror glancing at the man before back at his companion. "One or two?" he asked politely not wanting to assume anything about her eating habits, gingerly motioning for her to submit her order first though he would be covering both.

Nodding she shrugged "Yep, everyone has their own preferences. To me, as long as they had a good selection of classes and the professors knew what they were doing, it was fine." She hadn't noticed anything odd about his comment, she hadn't had a preference as to where she had wanted to go. Then again she hadn't really had a choice either, not til after her parents had died, but she wanted things to stay normal and her cousin Ali had agreed.

Training? Her eyes widened as he had said that he then worked as an auror "Auror? Wow, that would be quite a position to get into. Do you enjoy it?" she asked looking over at him. It was a good question. If they didn't like the position then it wasn't a good fit, but if they did, than that's where they belonged! She'd not been around too many aurors in her lifetime and she definitely respected those that went into that field. She never thought she'd be able to handle that kind of position.

She was so lost in thought she jumped slightly at the vendor's clearing of his throat. "Oh, just one please." she said nodding "Just saurkraut and ketchup on it please."

It was a good sign that Stef seemed to be one of those FOR his chosen field of work. Jonathan doubted they would have been able to continue if she hadn't since it usually fouled the mood at least from the other side of the conversation. Seeing as he was one for trying to fix things in that case. "As much as one can," he answered trying to think of the best way to answer fro his feelings. "Don't get me wrong, theres no other job I would think of for me. But like all careers it has its ups and downs," the auror admitted, reminded of when he had spoken about it with his brother. You had to love the job or at least like it a lot to be willing to put up with everything one dealt with at one point or another.

He noticed her reaction to the vender, watching briefly to make sure she was alright before relaxing when she caught herself. "Alright," Jonathan said with a nod as he turned to the other man. "Make that two with sauerkraut....one with ketchup and one with mustard," he informed him, the vender nodding and going to work making it. It was a brief enough wait and the auror had slipped into an almost ackward quietness until he had paid for the hotdogs and handed his date's to her.

"So what have you been up to since your graduation?" he asked rebooting the conversation as he lead them away from the booth. The former Hufflepuff tentatively taking a bite.

Nodding, she could understand why he answered that way. It might be an exciting job that kept him on his toes, but one couldn't forget the dangers of the job as well. "That's for sure." she replied. Every job did have it's ups and downs. Even one as simple as the DP job she'd had for a few years putting herself through school! She'd love to here more about his job, but wondered if a lot of it was like the unspeakables she'd heard about from the ministry. Where they couldn't really talk about their assignments.

Taking her hotdog, she murmured her thanks. Not having had a chance to pay for her own, and still amazed by the gentleman that she was with. "Since Beauxbatons I've been actually at school still." she replied with a small laugh. "I just finished and am looking for a teaching position for Arithmancy." Grabbing a napkin or two before turning away with Jonathan, she took a bite of her hotdog.

Jonathan had to admit, that whatever he had thought this blind date may have turned out as, so far it wasn't too bad. But then it kinda helped he hadn't said or do anything to make a fool out of himself because he was out of practice. He almost expected more questions about his job but Stef seemed content with the information he had already revealed no matter how little it might seem. Well more for later if they needed stuff to talk about...and interesting prospect....a later.

The auror hadn't thought anything about his paying for them both, it had just seemed the right thing to do rather then split it between them. It wasn't as if he couldn't afford the simple meal if a single hotdog could be called that really. Jonathan nodded at her thanks, having just taken a bite and listened to her reply. "Also an interesting job," he remarked, having heard stories from his best friend in her own endeavors in teaching. Granted he was never the true academic, favoring only the classes he needed to his future, but that didn't mean he didn't understand those who were. He wasn't a bone-head athletic type by any means. "Well hopefully the numbers will give you some luck there."

He was definitely a quiet one, serious and quiet. One that definitely showed her what she'd thought an auror might be like. It was nice to have that in a person she thought. The last guy she'd been with had wanted to do nothing but talk about himself! Catching a drip from her hot dog with the napkin she smiled at his words about the numbers giving her luck. "We can always hope." she replied with a laugh. Those numbers were always just fun to play with to her but knew they could mean something but so far hadn't had anything really pop out and prove that to her.

Odd that she'd taken up the field when she really didn't believe in it fully, but she loved finding what the numbers meant and how to get to them.

Taking a seat at one of the empty tables she looked over at Jonathan, "So what is it you do just for fun?" That was a good simple question right? Aurors had to wind down somehow, and she was curious if they had anything in common!
