The Otter River curves sinuously through the countryside near Ottery St. Catchpole, a sleepy town in Devon. The slow-moving river drifts through village, forest, and countryside alike, its sun-dappled surface hiding deep pockets of murky water and shale-bottomed shallow spots. The children in the village have a favored swimming hole in summer, and fishermen of all calibers enjoy plumbing the Otter’s depths from the bank. Now, however, the air is brisk and the water too chilly for either activity.

Uncle Fitch’s Campground and Water Craft Rentals is a Wizard-owned establishment just up the river from Ottery St. Catchpole that caters to a mixed crowd of both Muggle and Wizarding clientele. At this time of year, only the devoted outdoorsmen are camping in the forests and fields nearby, although the scent of wood smoke from their campfires permeates the brisk morning air. Still, Uncle Fitch is happy to rent out canoes and kayaks to the intrepid explorers sent by Ms. Raphael, and he has one of each waiting on the bank for the couple to choose between.

He also has a picnic basket provided by Ms. Raphael and her team, complete with a large thermos of hot chocolate and a quaint striped quilt in case the couple is brave enough to picnic outdoors. Uncle Fitch is also quick to remind his customers that the river flows through Ottery St. Catchpole, where several warm pubs and restaurants may provide a welcome respite from the wind, although he expects all water crafts to be beached at the pick-up point down river.

Have fun and stay warm!

Jason strolled onto the dock after having no date during his last session. He stood by the dock and tapped his foot, hopefully that his blind date would show up. Jason absolutely despised waiting for someone to show up. Waiting by the canoes was already erking him to leave.

Halle came up to the docks to see a man standing there waiting. He was tapping his foot, was she late? She checked her watch.... no she wasn't late. Hmm. "Hello, are you Jason?" she asked. She really hoped he was and that she wasn't asking an employee if he was her date.

Jason sighed in relief to see a girl walking onto the docks. She was from an asian ethnicity, but very cute all the same. He smirked at her with a small smile and looked her up and down to inspect her. Jason was impressed at the site. Maybe it was going to be fun after all. Will a canoe trip really that romantic though? He knew that that he hated the outdoors. Anything camping related or hiking was not for him. Taking his worries to the back of his mind, he walked to the girl with his hand outstretched. "Hi. You must be my surprise blind date." he said smoothly. "I'm Jason." He took her arm and kissed it softly while holding his gaze at her.

Halle smiled as he kissed her hand. "Oh thank goodness. I'm Halle, it's nice to meet you." she said smiling. Jason was very handsome, she had to admit. "So do you know how to use a conoe?" she asked. She had been kayaking and conoeing, but she never went on a date of that sort. She lived on a beach in California, she loved being outside.

"Pleasure to meet you Halle." Jason replied and returned a smile to her as well. Jason had no idea why the people in Diagon Alley had given him a canoe trip. He was definitely not an outdoors person, but being with this girl after his break up with his previous partner made him feel better a bit. He didn't show any of his conflicting emotions to Halle not wanting to upset her. He shook his head slightly at her question. "I've never been canoeing in my life. How about you teach me while we go get the canoes?" he said and still holding her hand he guided her to the beautiful canoes.
