Fruit Bowl

Out of all of the paintings hanging on the walls of the basement corridor, the one depicting a silver fruitbowl is an easy favourite for some of those here at Hogwarts. While many may think that there is nothing special about this particular painting, those who are well-informed about its purpose know what lies beyond. Past this painting is where all of the food you stuff in your mouth three or more times a day is made.

If you're in the need of second breakfast, elevenses, or a mid-afternoon snack, then this is the place to be. If you are someone who knows this particular castle secret, you know those bananas and grapes aren't there just to make your mouth water and your stomach rumble. Simply reach out your hand and tickle the delicious-looking pear in the corner. After it has a squirming fit and laughs, it will transform into a green door-knob and grant you access to the grand Hogwarts kitchen where anything you desire can be whipped up in no time at all.

How she was out of her portrait, one Ms Helga Hufflepuff didn’t know. She also didn’t care to ask too many questions but she was loving it! Though, her gorgeous castle seemed dustier than she remembered it being. She’d blame the mist -no wait. What had Sir Cadogan said that mist had been? In the excitement of her own unlimited movement, Helga couldn’t remember what had infested the castle but it didn’t matter.

She wanted to see the great llyn and the valley around the school. Air on her face. Yes, air. But truly. Was there anything so wonderful as to be free? Taking long, leisurely steps through the corridors Helga didn’t think so. She couldn’t remember feeling so alive, so vibrant. Twisting around to survey the castle, she hummed.

Students are too thin! Obviously, they need food! Turning on her heel, Helga Hufflepuff detoured from her path heading towards the Entrance Hall and headed towards the kitchen instead. Snacks were needed! Meat pies, roasted nuts, cheeses, breads, apples, chicken drumsticks and perhaps some dried fruits. Mmmmmmmm. She was hungry just thinking about the food she would hand out to the students who were studying.

Food was needed for thinking!

Humming happily, she continued on her journey to the kitchen before she met a student and smiled at them. “I’m going to the kitchen for food, my dear. Snacks are calling!”

Claudine Blaze once in a while ventured into the Kitchen for a snack. She wasn’t a huge eater but at times, cravings happened as any young woman would know. Today, she was in the mood for something cheesy. A simple sandwich with a healthy dose of cheese would be enough to satisfy her craving. She approached the Fruit Bowl portrait with quick steps but as she came closer, she slowed down. A small wrinkle formed between her eyebrows.

That was definitely not a Professor.

But she was familiar, was she not? That woman’s images were plastered in prominent books such as Hogwarts: A History. Claudine stared, not daring to believe her eyes. Helga Hufflepuff? Flabbergasted, the Snakette could only continue to stare, too occupied to say anything.

HOW?

Nettie wouldn't ever admit it to anyone, but she was hanging around the kitchens with the hopes of catching one of the Hufflepuffs sneaking some food from there. She...wanted to know how it was done, quite frankly. Her main motivation was to get a picnic basket or something for a nice date with Alex out by the lake before it got too cold, but she was too chicken to ask the house elves for more food. They had enough to do with all the cleaning as it is...

She turned the corner and almost walked RIGHT into one of the younger students...what was her name? Bernie? No, that wasn't that one...and was about to scold her about just standing around before she realized that a. she was not a prefect anymore and b. she was staring at someone, so she had a good reason to...stand around, right?

She turned, looking to see who she was staring at and noticed the woman nearby. The woman looked...really familiar. But she couldn't quite put her finger on i...

WAIT.

"Helga HUFFELPUFF?" she exclaimed, unable to stop herself. Whoops. No, there just...this couldn't be. There had to be an explanation.

Standing in the corridor as she smiled at the young Lady, Helga waited for an answer. ”Dear?” Her Welsh-accent was melodic as leant towards the girl in green-adorned robes. ”Do you need to see the Healer? Food? Chocolate! Chocolate will help, dear.” The Founder nodded her head, sure that her answer of chocolate and food were the answer to whatever had struck the girl.

Before they could move much further however, a second gi- no. The second was older and looked like a Lady, in blue-adorned robes. And who said her name. Head tilting curiously, the older woman gave her a broad smile. ”Of course, my dear. Whom else would I be?”

Helga looked to the young Lady and then back to the Lady. ”Dear, help my escort this girl to the kitchens. She needs chocolate or some chicken. Maybe a pie.” Hmm. Helga would see what there was, before she decided. ”Definitely food, she hasn’t moved in a few moments.” Cradling one of Claudine’s elbows gently, Helga started down the corridor again, aiming for the Kitchen portrait.

She heard the approaching footsteps but was still,at that moment, too shocked to move. However, Claudine was slowly getting over that feeling for this woman before her couldn’t be Helga Hufflepuff. She slowly shook her head. No, she didn’t need any food nor to see the Healer. That dark gaze intensified as she scrutinised the woman. There was no way this was Hufflepuff. “She can’t be Hufflepuff,’’ she said to Nettie, still judging the woman. “I bet someone’s pulling a prank using the Polyjuice potion and some old fashioned clothing.'' To ‘Hufflepuff’ she said, “Ha ha, very funny. Joke’s up.’’

Claudine nearly jumped inches into the air when her elbow was touched. Anyone who knew her knew that she hated anyone making contact with her. She jerked her arm away from ‘Hufflepuff’. “How long until your one hour is up until the Potion wears off, anyway?’’ Claudine questioned, now moving her feet and trailing after the woman.

Nettie, Claudine and Helga!

Between helping to try and clean up the castle, especially the poor Hufflepuff garden that had broken her heart as soon as she’d seen it, along with studying for OWLs and prefect duties, Carys was the tiniest bit stressed. Granted, she had her distractions too, being art and Eron, but she wasn’t occupied with either at the moment. The activity of the moment had been studying, but halfway through she’d gotten a bit hungry and, seeing as it wasn’t breakfast so she hadn’t had her boyfriend waiting outside the barrels for her with food, nor was she with her sister who nearly always had something she could snack on, a trip to the kitchens seemed necessary.

Except, it seemed like the snack mission was on pause once she’d gotten to the fruit owl only to find Nettie and Claudine standing there with a living woman who was awfully familiar from the decorations inside the common room. Even the accent seemed recognizable, and not from her own upbringing and accent. She’d been going over Hogwarts: A History not too long ago, and that made this all that much more strange.

“Excuse her, Miss Hufflepuff,” she said as she joined the group, glancing at the younger Snakette momentarily. Obviously there was one glaring little detail missing to her theory that was being overlooked.

“Where would someone have gotten a hair from her in order to make Polyjuice potion?”, she added in a whisper to Claudine. At the very least she felt pointing out the inaccuracy before she let the girl blatantly disrespect a founder. No matter how odd her appearance in the castle might seem.

...everything about this was too much. Nettie blinked at Helga, who didn't seem at all phased that she was suddenly here, walking around the castle and not in her portrait where she belonged. As for Claudine, it was a good idea - but as soon as Carys appeared, she heard her whisper to the younger girl about the flaw in her plan. Which again, brought her back to the fact that Helga Hufflepuff was apparently standing RIGHT THERE.

And Carys was just...chill with that?!

"Are you not at all concerned that she's standing here? And not in a portrait?!" she asked her with a whisper.

Nettie had always assumed everyone's reaction to founders walking around the castle would be to panic - much like she was right now. Apparently she was alone in that, though...

Curiouser and curiouser

Today was a butterbeer cookies kind of day. He'd missed the house elves and being in the kitchens last term, and the fourteen year old was making up for lost time by visiting the fruit bowl almost daily. The kitchens at Beauxbatons just.. they hadn't been the same. They hadn't felt homey. These kitchens, the Hogwarts kitchens, they were his home away from home, almost as much as the common room was. It was part of the reason why he loved being in Hufflepuff, his proximity to the kitchens and the great hall.

Thank you Helga Hufflepuff for creating his house, and for choosing the best location in the house.

Turning the corner, Ronan noticed a little gathering in front of the entrance to the kitchens. Nettie, the Ravenclaw prefect - wait, no, not a prefect anymore? Ronan hoped she hadn't been fired, that sounded unpleasant - a second year he didn't know, and Carys were all standing around talking to some woman. Huh, who's she? Ronan frowned as he slowed to a stop. She seemed awfully familiar, but she wasn't any of the professors, and he was almost sure he didn't know her from outside of school.

He arrived just in time to catch Nettie's whisper, which confused him even more. "What do you mean? What portrait? Who is she? ... and why are you whispering??" Weird.

Hmm. The young girl flinched and then concerned Helga more. Perhaps chocolate and an array of food would not be enough to console and settle the girl. Perhaps she really would need the nurse. ….. Especially when she asked her when her time would be up. How insulting! She was Helga Hufflepuff, founder! Her time would never be up! She was the kind and caring Matriarch of Hufflepuff House.

Turning her attention towards the older girls, Helga carefully motioned to the younger girl. ”Perhaps you could take her into the kitchen and I will go and get the Healer. I think she perhaps needs to be checked over, surely she should know who I am. Perhaps she is in shock. Dear, are you okay?”

The woman did turn a motherly smile towards the young boy sporting gold robes. Ahh. A Hufflepuff. Another of her own. Her heart soared as she looked from Carys to Ronan and then she frowned slightly as they were all whispering about her. ”Whispering isn’t at all polite, my Dears.” Perhaps they all needed their eyes checked by the Healer.
”Hmm. Yes, yes. I believe that is exactly what is needed.” She said allowed, nodding mostly to herself as she took a step away from the fruit bowl. Helga would get the Healer. The Healer would check them over and make sure that they were all okay.

”If you all wait in the Kitchen, my Dears - I will be back with the Healer.” She informed kindly, though her eyes were still worriedly looking at Claudine. And before they could say anything else to stop her, she walked briskly down the corridor in search of the Healer.

If they actually sat and waited for the Healer to arrive, they would have been waiting a long time as one Helga Hufflepuff never did manage to find Professor Recard.

FearlessLeader19 01-24-2020 06:24 PM

In her suspicious mode, Claudine had completely forgotten about that crucial fact about the Polyjuice Potion: it required a bit of the person to be changed into. Still, she refused to back down. Not bothering to lower her voice like Carys had, she continued, “Magic can get almost anything done these days.’’ At least Trinetta was concerned as much as Claudine was. How was it possible for Helga Hufflepuff, one of Hogwarts’ Founders was walking around? This was definitely no ghost. “Because Helga Hufflepuff died years ago and apparently she’s here, in the flesh’’ the Snakette explained to Ronan.

Claudine had to give this imposter credit though for the woman was acting exactly as she, Claudine, had read. Hufflepuff was known for being kind, gentle, caring, motherly. Still, the girl was not a sick child to be fussed over. “I am fine,” she insisted.
