Charms Lesson 1 It was bright and early on Friday morning. The weekend was just ahead, but there was a full day of classes ahead of the students. As Piers had posted on the noticeboard, Charms class was taking place in the kitchens that day. So, outside of the kitchens, in front of the tapestry, Piers stood, waiting for his students to arrive. He knew that some of them wouldn’t look at the noticeboard, so he fully expected some of them to arrive late. Now, some students might have a guess at what the lesson today was about, but then again, they might not. He hadn’t given any clues about what to expect (partially because he knew some of them might skip class if they knew). So there he stood, outside the kitchen tapestry, waiting innocently for his students to arrive. OOC: Welcome to charms class! Keep in mind that while this is the first OOC charms lesson this term, this is not the first charms lesson that your characters are attending. I'll begin the lesson officially in about 24 hours! Class Progression: 1. Greetings and Question 1 2. Replies and Mini Activity 3. Replies and Question 2 4. Replies and Main Activity |
Nettie could only imagine WHY Charms class was in the kitchens today. She knew food transfiguration was not a thing that they could do (and also it was the complete wrong subject) so if she had to guess...she'd suspect they were doing something with cleaning dishes. THRILLING. "Hello Professor," Nettie said with a small smile as she approached. |
Phoebe very much didn't pay attention to the announcements board, but since she ended up mindlessly following whoever was in the corridor ahead of her, she somehow managed to end up in the right place. The kitchens? Well. This had to be right, because there was Professor Handsome Face right there. WOULD THERE BE SNACKS? "Hi, Professor! Hi!" That's all she had, because she was very distracted by FOOD concerns. |
Charms and the kitchens. That was an interesting combination. Naya was wondering what this class would be all about. Only one way to find out. As she arrived at said kitchens, she took in her surroundings. “Hello Professor” she said cheerfully. Naya looked around, hoping for clues, but she was not really getting any specific vibe about the class. She noted that she was one of the first to arrive. “Hey Phoebe, she said to her fellow Gryffindor. Then she found a spot to settle in and wait for class to begin. |
Oh yes, there HAD to be snacks if they were going to the kitchens! And besides snacks, "Are we going to talk to house elves today, sir?!" Bernie excitedly asked as she came to a bouncing halt beside Phoebe and Naya. Professor Fuller definitely knew how much she appreciated house elves. He had probably planned this lesson just for her. What a sweet teacher, right?! |
A Charms lesson near the kitchens, or in the kitchens, sounded interesting. On her way there, all Isla could think about was the weekend coming up, but now that she was actually coming up on the kitchen area, she was suddenly feeling hungry. Where were all those cookie-loving house elves when you needed them, hmm? "Hello, Professor," she said, trying to take her mind off cookies for a second to toss out a polite greeting. She could only imagine they were doing some kind of cooking charm, but then again, who knew? With nothing else to do but just quietly wait around for the lesson, the first year moved to stand by a few of the other students. Was it too much to ask to bake cookies while learning cooking charms? |
Valencia headed down to the kitchens as the noticeboard said. She was guessing they were going to be doing some sort of cleaning. That was really the only reason to be down there, right? Or maybe cooking. Probably cleaning though. "Hello Professor." she greeted, nonetheless cheery. |
Fiona was thrilled that she didn't have far to walk to this lesson. She quickly made her way to the kitchens. "Good morning, Professor!" Fiona greeted her Charms teacher/Head of House. |
Friday! Cecelia loved Fridays ALMOST as much as she loved Saturdays and she was in an excellent mood as she approached the group, offering a grin to their professor. ”Good Morning!” It WAS a good morning, even better morning if there would be food involved. Would there be food?! ...They wouldn’t be doing dishes or something, would they? Hm. ”Hey!” The second year stopped by Phoebe, nudging her gently and offering a smile to Bernie and Naya. Were they curious about today’s lesson, too? |
So literally there was one thing on Carsyn's mind when she saw the noticeboard of today's Charms lesson being in the kitchens. It was the prospect that that they would be learning some cooking slash baking with charms. Sure there was the alternative of dishwashing, but wasn't that what house elves and detention was for??? Also, it was FRIDAY!!! Another week gone. Another week closer to OWLs. Okay, the latter wasn't something the fifth year really wanted to think about but once OWLs happened she could put them behind her and that was something worth celebrating. "Morning Professor." Merlin, she really should have slept in her sister's dormitory last night. It would have have been so much more convenient. She went and stood by the dormmate (Naya), waiting. |
Friday!!! FINALLLLLYYY it's Friday. Jillian was extra giddy today because- well- it is a Friday. She skipped all the way to the classroom and momentarily stops as she reaches towards the door. Composing herself and walking in. "Good morning, Professor" she smiled. She took a seat on the right corner. Everyone looked happy. Must be a Friday thing. |
Blake, having of course read the noticed, then proceeded to promptly head toward the kitchens for charms class today. He had an idea that they would be cleaning ... using cleaning charms to help the house elves ... he had kinda wanted to skip, but his conscience go the better of him and away he went anyway. "Morning Professor." Blake added waiting to officially see what the day would bring them. |
A combination of Charms and cooking? Was Catherine's mum about to take over and teach them the class instead of their professor? It sounded like it. The Ravenclaw had checked the noticeboard, so she wasn't late at all to arrive at the correct place. She hadn't been one of the first ones either, which she was glad about. This way she could stand behind the first few students but not too far from the professor. Perfect spot. Shame they would probably be moving into the kitchens sooner than later and she would have to shuffle around to get to a good spot again. Giving the older man a nod as a form of greeting, Catherine stood pretty still, making sure she wasn't bumping into anyone around her. Who knew what those Hogwarts students carried around with them |
“Good morning, Professor.’’ Claudine greeted. She gave him a rare, small smile. Yes, she had forgiven him for not fighting more to prevent his Slytherins from having to use a broom cupboard as a common room at Beauxbatons. She looked around for some sign of what the lesson would be about today but other than the fact that they were at the Kitchen, there was not much else to work with. So, the Snakette gave up for now and went to find a spot clear of other students to stand at. Of course, she would have liked to be beside Bernie but that Gryffindor was surrounded as usual. |
It was too bright and too early for Curtis to be up at this time. Yes, it was Friday and the weekend was near but he still wasn't a fan of morning classes. However, he was up and not going to be late, especially since returning back to school in the new term. Curtis walked in with his eyes meeting only for a split second, "Morning Professor." He didn't want to make much eye contact right now, instead hurrying to the pack of other Slytherins to blend with. |
It was early, and the workload was starting to feel, uh, intense. So intense that he was starting to get very tired everytime he woke up in the morning. Fifth year was no joke, was it? It was because of this that he was more confused than usual about this particular Charms class taking place in...... the kitchens? Uh??? They weren't cleaning up, were they? No. No no. With the way he was feeling, he was sure he was going to end up breaking something and the last thing he wanted was to set off a bunch of house elves. Lucas rubbed an eye as he approached Pierson-Fuller and the group of students standing outside the kitchens. "Mor-" Yaaaaaaaaawn! .............. ".....orning, Professor." Oh Merlin. |
Text Cut: greetings Since he knew some students would arrive late, Piers waited until 9:05 to finally begin class. After checking his watch one last time, Piers decided it was time to get started. With the students gathered around him and waiting for class to start, Piers clapped his hands together to get the attention of the students so the chatter would die down. ”Alright, everyone, settle down,” he said. ”Alright, welcome to class. Glad you all decided to get out of bed this morning.” He, for one, had a hard time doing that himself. It was rather nippy outside, you know? ”Today, we’re going to start off with a very simple discussion to wake your brains up. I want you to list off some cleaning or tidying charms that you know or that you’ve seen your mum use.” because, let’s face it, he was pretty sure a lot of these students hadn’t worked a minute of manual labor in their lives. ”Ready, go.” Yes, it was that simple. OOC: Welcome to charms class! Class has officially begun. Go ahead and have your character and the question, if they’d like to. Class will move on in approximately 24 hours. |
No?! No house elves?! But didn't they live in the kitchen....? Bernie nearly raised her hand to ask that, but then she realized they were starting and so she'd have to just... put all her house elf questions aside. For now. "Um," her hand shot up before she really knew the answer, but drawing on her personal experience, Bernie quickly came up with something, "My mum doesn't know charms, cos she's a Muggle and all that, but my charming Charms professor did a spell on a scrub brush one time, so that soap kept continuously coming out of it, and I used the brush to clean some school boats." True story! And Curtis' dad definitely knew what she was referencing. |
Charms his mum used...Austin raised his hand silently. Yeah, this would not apply to him, at least not like the others. "My dad would send stuff flying where they go," he said. "My mum always cleaned by hand," he nodded. She was a muggle. She wasn't able to use magic anyway... |
Oh, how Avalon hoped that today's lesson wouldn't be about cleaning the kitchens. Dishes were her least favorite chore. Although with a bit of magic, maybe it wouldn't be too bad. The young Ravenclaw wasn't allowed to use cleaning charms when she did her chores. Her mum and dad valued manual labor. But she had seen them use a few on occasion. She raised her hand. "My mum uses Tergeo when she cleans. Usually when she's dusting or trying to get something nasty off the table." Yes, Mrs. Sinclair had definitely used it when Avalon's sister spilled her entire case of quill ink on the brand new dining table. She had also used some other spells to tidy up in a hurry when guests dropped by unexpectedly, but Avalon couldn't remember the incantations. |
Been here the whole time.... Cole was still very much not a morning person so he had dragged himself out of bed earlier. Eating breakfast had as usual woken him up and raised his mood somewhat. Now he stood near Naya and the other Gryffindor's outside the tapestry, that guarded the entrance to the kitchens wishing class was over. Resisting the urge to yawn loudly Cole raised his hand to answer Professor Fullers question. "My mum likes to use the washing up spell, to quickly clear away the dirty dishes every day. I don't know if the spells has a fancier name than that." |
Nina was not his biggest fan, did he know? Professor Fuller-Thompson was SO weird. He ate the WEIRDEST things and always looked like he needed to take a shower. There was also that one lesson where he literally just had them BREATHE for an entire class period and Nina Castillo hadn't been a fan ever since. And quite frankly? She found this question to be insulting! He could have left it the way he had first phrased it, but when he added that bit about 'mums', Nina found herself giving him a look. Maybe some of her peers never had to do their share of chores around the house, but Nina had been doing her own laundry since she was nine. And as such, she chose not to answer the question. In protest. And not because she didn't typically speak in lessons. It was the protest thing this time. |
Cora pulled a face and groaned out loud. Was it clear that she was less than impressed? Had she seriously gotten out of bed for this? No way was she cleaning, that's what they had house-elves for. She'd rather lose a thousand points than clean. As for the question, she'd seen the careworkers around Stemp House do their fair share of cleaning charms of course, but that hadn't been what Professor Whatshisname had asked, was it? "Haven't seen my mum do any," she piped up, hoping to make him squirm a little for what he was no doubt about to make them all suffer through. "I ain't got one." A mum, that is. |
Just hearing a few answers, Curtis couldn't help finding it funny that some of his classmates were taking the Professor's joke literally on what spells their mum uses. Maybe it was because he didn't have a mum in the traditional sense that he could spot the irony right away. If anything his daddy was more like his mum compared to his papa back at home. He should've laughed at this, but nothing was tickling enough to do so. Also, he didn't want to think about them much right now so he decided to pubicly recall something else. "My big brother uses some sort of motor charm on the sheets from the bed to fold and clean themselves off." Curtis said. |
Before she knew it, it was time for class to begin. The professor did not waste any time and went straight into question mode. And.......oh.......if Naya didn’t know what the class was going to be about before, she did now. Clue received. They were going to be cleaning the kitchens. Naya was slightly less enthusiastic about the lesson than she had been a few minutes ago. Raising her hand, she went about providing her answer. “My mother is a muggle too, so she didn’t use any spells. But I do know that Scourgify is a good spell for cleaning.” Cleaning was not exactly Naya’s favorite thing to do, by magic or otherwise. |
