Entry Chamber
|
Dottie had been working for the Ministry for a few months now - and she still struggling finding her way to the right chamber. Man... the Department of Mysteries ... if there was ever a department with an obvious name this was it. Forgot worrying about non 'unspeakables' find their way around here. Their own employees had no idea where to go! Chamber of Codes ... Chamber of codes .... which door which door? |
One of the handleless doors creaked open slowly, revealing a red robed man with a cane in one hand, and a cup of tea in the other. Somewhere off in his own head, the door closed behind him, and it rotated along with the others. Damian's eyes widened when he realized he wasn't alone, and a smile tugged at the edges of his mouth. "Why the forlorned look? Just tell the chamber where you'd like to go, and it will send you where you need to go. Sometimes they're two different things. Don't know how it works, but it works." He spoke rather casually, having long given up trying to figure these things out. Mysteries. "Tea?" The vapors framed his face, trailing whisps when he reached out to offer her the cup. "It's made from chamomile and nostalgia. Smells and tastes different for everyone." For Damian it smelled of the sea, and tasted like a first kiss. It was an enjoyable brew in small doses, but you could find yourself lost in it if drank too often. |

"Well I tried to tell it what chamber I needed but nothing happened all the door remained locked." Dottie felt rather foolish. She had of course listened at orientation about how to get into her chamber, but obviously the department of mysteries hated her. "I"ll be honest I don't think the Department likes me very much" Dottie said it as if the chamber itself had thoughts and feeling .. which .. maybe it did .... "I'm Dottie by the way." She added holding her hand out for a shake with her introduction. |
"Damian. Last time I tried to introduce myself, blood started spouting from the fountain." The man briefly looked over his shoulder, making sure no blood came gushing from the chamber doors. And instead of shaking her hand, he put the cup of tea in the young woman's hand. "Department! Is that true? Are you giving Dottie a hard time?" Rapping his cane on the floor, Damian turned to look at the doors, as if he were expecting a reply. With a grin, her turned back to Dottie. "If it really didn't want you here, it'd send you in circles. Really mess with you." Tapping his chin briefly, he then raised the finger up. "Show the department that you belong here. Say where you want to go with confidence. You hear that, Department!? She's not taking no for an answer!" |
Dottie looked down at the tea that was placed in her hand and blushed a little ... he had after all mentioned the tea, but she was so focused on the Department being 'alive' thing that she hadn't thought to mention it much. The tea after all did smell delicious. Smelled like the earth after it rained .. reminded her a lot of ... no never mind not going there. "Well it's very nice to meet you Damian. You know this chamber did send me in circles my first day, I think I may have sneezed when I said the chamber I needed though. And then she giggled ... rather hysterically to if she mind add at Damian talking to the Department. "Do you really think it's alive?" She said it like she was joking and not it couldn't possibly be true, but could it? |
"Wow...That's quite the question. And I haven't had my morning tea." He said, his eyes darting to the cup in her hand with a smile. "People used to call Enchanted Armor, Living Armor, before it became commonly known that the suits were not actually alive. They merely followed command parameters that were set at their creation." Damian took her giggling as a sign that her mood was improving. "It's entirely possible that the department is making conscious decisions about where it's sending people. Could be some spirit inhabiting this place. Some former employee perhaps? Or, it is as equally possible, that the magical craftsmanship of the department is so complex that it's nearly indistinguishable from sentience." Casually tossing his cane into the air, it landed upright next to him. "Quite the mystery, isn't it? Not one I think we'll ever solve. So, let's just hope the department cooperates with us, and it never hurts to say 'please'."Whew. With his pontificating at an end, it was up to Dottie now. |
