Workspace

https://i.postimg.cc/RCpx9Zjy/workspace.png

Glass walls that can be enchanted with the tap of a wand for privacy separate the workspace of Level Five. Each department area has their own office space with cubicles set up for employee privacy. One office holds nothing but a fireplace* and a large container of floo-powder for those who need to make emergency floo-calls

If you are coming for a meeting or just to drop by a certain desk you will find the names of employees outside their work spaces. the divisions on plates at the start of each entry area. Watch out! Level Five is very busy and you will see memos and the occasional owl zooming by.

*The Fireplace is not set up for transportation, only for communication. Please use the fireplaces in the Atrium for transportation to and from the Ministry.

The Announcer 12-07-2021 03:35 PM

Along the workstations lay a beautiful red and black carpet, but was it there yesterday? Had someone wanted to spruce up the office and placed it between desks to make it more like home?

FearlessLeader19 12-07-2021 11:05 PM

Was it just Brody or was the Department extra busy today? Or was it he who was just extra busy? No, no. It had to be the Department what with the World Cup hassle and all. One would have to be a little patient with the Coordinator today for he had had only about two hours of sleep the previous night. Studying for exams often did that. And the word ‘studying’ was very fitting, right? It meant ‘student dying’, which was exactly how Brody felt at the moment.

Right now he was on his way to find the first available Immigration Officer. There was a visitor at his desk who had urgent busi-. The young man halted in his urgent tracks. Huh? “What’s with the carpet?" he asked, not directing the question to anyone in particular.

This was a recent addition to the department… right?

The Announcer 12-13-2021 02:12 AM

Was someone giving it attention? The carpet laid still hoping that someone would come enjoy it's gorgeousness, but the person that was around didn't seem all that interested or at least it didn't seem like it to the carpet. So it started to move it's corner just a bit.

FearlessLeader19 12-13-2021 11:36 PM

Duh.

Brody was giving the thing attention. His eyes had been and still were glued to it because for the love of Merlin, he could not recall seeing any piece of paperwork indicating that the Department had put in for new carpets. As a matter of fact, he couldn’t even recall Mr. Singh-Phora mentioning anything about it. Brody wondered if all he indeed was finally losing his mind.

Oh yeah. He definitely was.

The Coordinator didn’t even bother questioning that the carpet was moving. The young man cautiously poked the carpet with his wand. Was this one of those flying carpets? “I think Sachin accidentally left you lying around,’’ he muttered, referring to the Indian Ambassador and his boss’s husband. “Come on. I’m going to get you back to him.” Brody holstered his wand and move to collect the carpet.

The Announcer 12-15-2021 06:30 PM

The human was going to play! The carpet moved more of itself as the person got closer, but then he poked the carpet and the carpet lifted wrapping around the person and lifting in the air.

FearlessLeader19 12-18-2021 11:59 PM

Yeah… no.

This wasn’t normal behaviour for a piece of glorified doormat, was it?

Brody stared as the bulk moved some more. There was even more surprise and utterances of shock when it suddenly wrapped around him and lifted him up as though he weighed nothing more than a feather.

“Hey!” The Coordinator wriggled and struggled. “I don’t remember asking you to pick me up! Put me down NOW.” And like… don’t drop him? He wasn’t a sack of potatoes t be tossed around. Brody also tried to use his wand to tap the carpet, hoping that would help. In the process, Brody accidentally managed to conjure snow. He hadn’t realised this until the white substance started to lightly fall, peppering the surroundings in bits of white glory.

The Announcer 12-19-2021 02:08 AM

The carpet wanted nothing to do with putting the man down, no, it wanted to have more fun and fly around the room with a passenger so with the man folded in safely the carpet moved up and down and spun around.

Sunflower 12-21-2021 05:50 PM

Carson had an errand to run on Level Five. It was imperative that he delivered a message to the trading division about some animal import regulations.

BUT he could come back another time, when it wasn't snowing and the employees weren't busy with their ... carpet experiment. The former Hufflepuff paused at the entrance to the workspace and watched as the carpet flew around the room with the department coordinator wrapped like a burrito.

Nope, not a good time. He scratched his chin and turned around to leave.

FearlessLeader19 12-21-2021 10:02 PM

Brody did not appreciate this.

He really did not.

In fact, he was turning into a big grump about the entire scenario. The only up side was that he was unlikely to fall unceremoniously from the folds of the carpet. At least for now. He moved his wand in the appropriate movement as best as he could given the confined space. “Impedimenta!” Anyone hearing the spell, including the newcomer whom Brody was too busy to notice {Carson}, should immediately know that his aim was to slow or stop the carpet.

When he found out who was responsible for leaving this piece of junk in this department…

The Announcer 12-23-2021 01:12 PM

The carpet was having fun twisting and turning and moving all around. The human inside had to be appreciating the carpets movements even if they weren't just a smooth ride. Was there another one wanting to play? Swooping down the carpet ran into the human before zooming back towards the ceiling.

Sunflower 12-24-2021 06:00 PM

The carpet experimenter's Impedimenta sounded quite angry. Carson turned around again to see if he needed help, and tumbled backwards when the clearly CRAZY carpet ran into him and sent his well-organised papers on animal trade flying through the air. Realising that the situation was out of control, he pulled out his wand to try to help. But Impedimenta had not worked, so it looked like they needed some better method of control, beyond his knowledge and skills.

"I'm gonna go ask for help! Uhhh hang in there!" With that, Carson shot out of the workspace before the carpet could return to him.

Joining the fun!

Conley had just spent the last two hours in an meeting with the French ambassador who was once again bringing information that a large batch of Mackled Malaclaws had been caught off the cost of Ciboure. And as bad as that news was, any time Conley had to spend with Valentin Roux was torture. He was looking forward to sitting down at his desk and eating his lunch in silence. But it seemed the universe had other plans. Because what he walked into was chaos.

"What?!" Conley said coming to a halt just as someone rushed past him. He didn't recognized the man. "Is going on here?!" Had the mystery man brought a defunct carpet here? Why? It should have gone to transportation. DIMC didn't handle these types of things. "And why is that here and not in Transportation? Brody!" If anyone was going to know it would be his trusty coordinator.

The Announcer 12-29-2021 03:46 PM

The carpet was flying smoothly in the air now so that it's burrito pinned rider could enjoy some of it. Though all this flying and excitement was getting the carpet a bit tight in the threads so it started to unroll at the riders feet.

FearlessLeader19 12-30-2021 04:08 PM

That did not work.

Which was obvious as the Coordinator still found himself being thrown around like a sack of potatoes. Very rude if you asked him. And what was this? Brody squeezed his eyes shut in an effort to will away the dizziness that suddenly stole over him. He barely had the mind to pay attention to whoever was shouting at him to hang on. What else was he supposed to do?

The arrival of his boss didn’t really do anything to help. Brody just found himself feeling more annoyed… and then nauseous. Without being able to put up much of a resistance, Brody found himself opening his mouth and emptying the contents of his stomach.

Look out below!

The Announcer 01-06-2022 07:07 PM

The carpet zipped closer to the ground before dropping the rider and taking off out into the corridor.

Krel Ansell 01-09-2022 03:49 AM

Conley felt something hit his shoulder. He took a moment to thank both Radhika and Sachin for giving him three years to prepare for this, because three years ago, Conley would probably have screeched like a thunder bird and booked it out of the room just as fast. Instead, he merely held in a gag and then stepped back as the carpet moved and deposited the man he had been calling for. "Oye!" he said jumping back as the carpet dashed off. He shot a stunning spell after it, but missed. The spell bounced off the wall and hit a plant, knocking it over. He sighed. He was really getting lack on his spellwork. Maybe he and Sachin could practice duel sometime soon.

"Alright there?" Conley asked looking at the puke on his shoulder. He made a face wishing he could yank the jacket off and burn it. Instead, he leaned forward and offered Brody a hand up. "What was that doing here? Since when do you take joyrides about the ministry? Anything broken? Do I need to send for a healer? Someone go after that carpet! OR at least tell transportation they're missing some of their rugs!" Who was he yelling at? Anyone who was around that wasn't currently covered in puke. That was who.

FearlessLeader19 01-11-2022 11:54 AM

Okay.

With the puke out, Brody felt only slightly better. His head was still spinning though. Through all the chaos on his end, he heard all the hullabaloo emitting from below. Clearly somebody was not doing a splendid job of helping him here. Then without any notice, the Coordinator was deposited onto the floor. At least he hadn’t been unceremoniously dropped from a great height.

He laid there on his back with his hands pressed over his eyes in an attempt to stop the room from spinning. Cue him wincing though because Conley was shouting. Honestly. Did he have to do that now? Quite truthfully, Brody was afraid to open his mouth again should he barf again. The fact that he could smell the contents of his stomach in the room did not help. The young man removed his hands and slowly opened his eyes. It wasn’t that bad. At least the room looked stable.

“Does this qualify as an extenuating circumstance for me to take the day off?” he asked, ignoring all other questions and the shouting.

Krel Ansell 01-24-2022 12:07 AM

Conley was pinching the bridge of his nose like he did when he was very frustrated or had a terrible headache. In this case, it was a little bit of both. Nobody had answered and nobody even bothered to move. Maybe he was a complete pushover. Maybe he was too lenient with his staff. Or maybe he just wasn’t as important as he himself thought he was. He set about cleaning up the bio-hazzard Brody had made while the young man continued to lay there. ”Brody - up. Let’s go.” He once again offered the young man a hand up. If he wasn’t going to take it, Conley was going to be forced to levitate the man down to the healer’s station and given the last time Brody bobbed around in the air, Conley didn’t expect them to make it down there without another expelling of the coordinator’s stomach contents. Although from how much of a mess was all over the room, there was a good chance Brody’s stomach was empty.

Leave it to Brody to use big words after vomiting all over Conley and being dumped on the floor. ”Yes, yes…but see a healer first. Make sure nothing is broken.” He sighed and tried pointing his wand at his own shoulder to clean up the mess. ”And that’s an order, not a suggestion young man.” He missed, sighed and decided he would just clean it when he took his jacket off in his office. Or he’d burn it and just put on his reserve jacket that he kept on a hanger behind his door.

FearlessLeader19 01-26-2022 12:55 PM

Well excuse him for laying there. Brody hadn’t seen anyone else gotten wrapped up snugly in a rogue flying carpet, twirled all around the room just for apparent fun and then wound up heaving their breakfast. He found it quite understandable if he wanted to lie there dramatically for the rest of the day. Okay, okay, not the entire day because he was actually starting to feel better. Brody reached up to grab Conley’s hand then hauled himself to his feet. He stood there for a moment, attempting to get his bearings back. At least he didn’t seem to want to barf again.

The mess was being taken care of which suited Brody quite fine. All he wanted to do was get out of here. Maybe find Gabe, tell him all about this misadventure then head out. “Pretty sure nothing’s broken but fine. I’ll stop by the Healer.” Maybe he’d pretend the dizziness and nausea were still there so that the Healer didn’t send him back here to work. “I’ll be back tomorrow then.” The Coordinator gestured vaguely with his hand - it could be classified as a wave - before heading off to collect his belongings.

Dang carpet.

On the bright side, he had an entire day for himself.

If anyone was looking for Ambassador Sophie then they should follow the sound of running water. Since coming back from her latest case involving some upset norwegian witches she had acquired an extreme thirst. After drinking running water straight from the faucet outside the toilets, and forgetting to turn it off she still felt that it wasn't enough. Her throat still felt as dry as the sahara desert, and that unpleasant screeching sound she heard on repeat inside her head now lead her to go into one of the toilet booths. For some reason unexplained she then had shoes and all kicked the toilet lid up and then climbed up so that she now stood inside the toilet, feet and all trying to decide the best way to pour toilet water over her head. Water would drown out the annoying screeching sound, right?

FearlessLeader19 04-29-2022 11:47 PM

Brody muttered a soft curse as a memo smacked him directly on his forehead. The collision obviously had no effect on the thing as it simply bounced off of him then resumed its journey. His dark gaze followed it for a moment before he too continued towards Conley’s office, a file in hand with something he wanted to bring to his boss’ attention.

That visit would have to wait, however.

Was that running water?

The Consulate paused to listen, doing his best to omit the sounds of the fluttering memos. Yes, that was running water indeed. But why…? And where…? The sound was followed until he came to the toilets. Had someone left a tap on? Thinking that might be the reason, Brody decided that he’d just dart in and turn the water off, whether it was the male or female bathroom.

Was it enough to say the peculiar sight that met his eyes stopped him short from his attention? “Sophie???” Brody’s eyebrows knitted together in alarm and bewilderment. “What are you doing??”

Standing in the toilet, not caring that her feet and shoes got wet Sophie was about to crouch down to take some water to drink when a familiar voice stopped her. Turning her blond head in his direction Sophie blinked several times before she answered matter of factly to her fellow consulate. "I'm getting enough water to quench my acute thirst with Brody," As if drinking toilet water was as common as getting as drinking a glass of butterbeer and not super weird at all. "My throat feels as dry as the Sahara Desert." She continued to explain. Crouching down she scooped up toilet water into her hands which she took several large mouthfuls of before she asked bewildered. "Why are you in the ladies bathroom?" Or had she gone into the men's section?

Brody honestly thought he was going to throw up. Toilets were like… disgusting??? No matter how many times they were cleaned, they were still nasty in his opinion. He didn’t know why but he half expected Sophie not to answer. Her response did nothing to ease his already queasy stomach. “There are other places to quench your thirst, Sophie,’’ Brody replied sharply. The file he had been carrying was quickly on the edge of one of the bathroom sinks then moved towards Sophie, not bothering to hide his cringe as she actually drank toilet water.

“Never you mind why I’m here. Come on. Out of there, please’’ Brody’s tone was firm and stern. A hand reached out to take one of Sophie’s arms. “I’ll get you as many bottles of germ-free water that you want. An all you can drink buffet, if you will. I promise.”

Sophie needed more WATER. Drinking the toilet water wasn't enough...Searching around in her pockets she finally found her wand which she used to cast "Aguamenti!" A spray of amazing water shot out from the tip of her wand that she intended for to drop into her waiting open mouth but was sprayed right in Brody's face. Oops! A little embarrassed, but laughing too because it looked funny she blurbed out an apology to him. "I'm sorry Brody, my aim was off."

Normally sitting in a toilet and drinking toilet water wasn't something that Sophie would ever do. It was nuts but extreme thirst called for unorthodox methods. Hearing a beautiful melody she started to loudly sing along where she sat in the toilet. Brody's firm tone interrupted her singing and she pouted at him [b]"Why did you interrupt my singing? That melody is lovely." Staring at his outstretched hand she didn't move towards. "Do you really promise to give me a drink buffet Brody? I'm just so so THIRSTY!"

Okay…

So water from one’s wand was an improvement. A gigantic improvement. But you know what wasn’t cool? Splashing someone else. Brody flinched terribly as the water hit his face, hair and as it streamed down his neck. He failed completely to find the laughter in the situation, and that was why his face remained completely serious. Though, of course, he did nod at the apology.

And…

The singing? Brody winced. Ouch, his ears! “I dunno what melody you’re talking about. You’re off key and I hear no other melody around here. Come on,’’ he urged again. “Out.” Brody kept his hand where it was. There was a sense of urgency building up in him now that told him that something was desperately wrong with Sophie. “Promise.” Just give him a moment while he shook the water out of his hair.

MLE Head's patronus

A silvery crow patronus burst into the room. It came to rest on top of an empty desk where it flapped it's wings twice before delivering it's orders. "Any available staff, please report to the Atrium.". The crow repeated it's message once more before fading.

Sophie was back to 'normal', and back at work. The blond ambassador shouldered open the door to the workspace on level 5, but paused to stop and just stare at the state of her desk. Her desk was litterally littered in owl letters and case files. Hadn't Valentin being shouldering her load when she had been in St Mungos? Confused Sophie headed over to her desk with her coffee mug in one hand and bag of fresh pasteries in the other. Where to start? Should she look for Brody or better yet Conley for assistance?

Brody was… swamped. But he didn’t mind because life was good and he loved his job. He was actually smiling faintly at his thoughts as he made his way into the work area, a huge binder trailing after him. This binder contained papers pertaining to passport applications and renewals. It was going to definitely be taking up most of the day but that was fine by him. To help him through, there was a cup of strong coffee in his grip.

“Soph!” Brody positively beamed to see his friend - and Scandinavian Ambassador - at her desk. “Hello! Everything alright?” Since her strange behaviours, and despite everything being resolved, the Consulate still worried over her health. “Need any help?” Also, there was another matter he wanted to discuss with her but that can wait a little longer.

Krel Ansell 10-27-2022 02:00 AM

For once, Conley wasn’t stressed nor was he tired. He had a slight spring in his step and a flounce in his movements. Most surprisingly, he wasn’t hungry. He’d had a full English breakfast and half a pot of tea at home before he’d left for work. Why was he acting so unusual? Well, things had gone unusually smooth at home. Radhika was actually happy to go off to school today and Conley had gotten a full-night’s sleep. He had no meetings on his agenda today and he might just be able to have a nice quiet day and catch up on some correspondence in his office. Perhaps he’d even slip off to have lunch with his husband…

”Bore da!” (Good morning). He even included a little wave as he passed by Brody and Sophia. ”Glad to see you back, Ambassador Connolly. Feeling better?” He paused. She looked a bit off still. Perhaps he should send her home again. Tell her to take a little more time off. He could find someone to take care of whatever it was that had brought her into the office. ”Brody, you look particularly -” he paused. The word Conley was thinking of was ‘glowing’ but that wasn't a word one usually used to describe men. ”Ah… chipper today.”

By the time that Brody came over to her Sophie was sorting the mess on her desk into two piles. She was swamped with work it seemed. Raising her gaze from a letter Sophie beamed warmly back her friend, and passport expert "Hi Brody," she gave the state of her desk another long glance before she looked back up. "I'm okay, just trying to get back into the swing of things after my hospital stay, you know? It seems I'm swamped with work to deal with." It was then that she noticed the thick binder trailing in Brody's wake. Gesturing to the binder she asked "Does every englishman in London want to renew their passports?" Gaze turning back to her desk again Sophie said to herself don't be proud, take the help. Nodding she responded slowley "Yes, I'd like some help with figuring out what is important, and what can wait in this mountain of files and letters and memos that is my desk."

"Thank you, it's good to be back, and to finally be cured of my disease." Her weird behaviour had put a strain on her marriage, and on her relationship with her daughter so it was good that things were going back to normal routines and life. Gesturing to her swamped desk she asked "Didn't Valentin help with the scandinavian cases and correspondance when I was away in Mungos?"

Brody surveyed Sophie’s desk. As far as he had recalled, someone had been assigned to help ease the pressure from this desk but clearly they hadn’t done a good job. The old Brody would have judged that person so badly and voiced his disapproval but he had improved on himself over the recent years so instead he said, “It’s been hectic. They were probably busy on their end too.” He set his coffee down then leaned against Soph’s desk with a chuckle. “This is only about half of it, Soph. There’s another binder on my desk. Then there’s the visa applications that I have to deal with…” But why did the thought of being so busy make him happy? It seemed he was developing into a workaholic like his Uncle Lucas. There was more to say to the Ambassador - after he greeted his boss, of course.

“Good morning, Conley.” Brody offered the man a smile, noting the change in this morning's behaviour. Having worked with the man closely for quite a bit, he knew his boss’s mood - not as good as Sachin but well enough. “Would you be okay with with approving some overtime for me? I can help Sophie catch up.” The Consulate didn’t fancy working too late but when there was work to be done… well, it had to be done and he wanted to help Sophie anyway. It turned out Conley had noticed Brody’s mood, and he couldn't stop his smile from getting a little wider. “Just… things are going really well in my life.” A hand was stretched towards Sophie, not wanting the topic to become centered on him. “Let me start with the memos, Soph.”

Surveying everything on her desk was overwhelming to say the least. Sophie felt like crying, but pushed the feeling away. No, she could and would manage this. She would prevail. In a few days her desk would be back to how it was supposed to be. Glancing sideways at Brody she nodded "I understand. Things have been extra busy around here when people were mernapped...." And sick, but Sophie didn't say that out loud.

Looking over at Conley she wondered if he was going to grant Brody overtime to help her ease back into work mode. Lifting up a letter from her desk that was addressed to her in big red letters she furrowed her brows. "Is something going on in the scandinavian countries that I've missed to take care of?" Sophie asked out loud eyes looking from her boss to Brody as she gestured to the letter. "This letter looks urgent." Thankfully it wasn't a howler.

Attention going back her desk Sophie blushed embarrassed at Brody "Sure, if you can find the memos amongst everything else. I haven't sorted anything in piles yet."

Sophie looked so overwhelmed. The poor woman. Brody knew all too well what this was like, and perhaps that was another reason he had offered to help her out. The other reason being that she was his friend as much as a coworker. “It was, to be honest. Not to mention stressful for some, including me because Gabe was among the mernapped.” It was the first time that he spoke about this aside from anyone in either his or Gabe’s family.

The Consulate took the letter, which mercifully, was accompanied with an English translation. That was one of the things he wanted to talk to Sophie about - to teach him Scandinavian and other languages of the Nordic Region. It would have to wait however, for a frown was developing on his face. “It’s a report about Floo Powder shortage.’’ So yes, it was really urgent. Brody turned his attention to his boss. “Sachin just reported the same thing about India,’’ he remarked, an eyebrow arching. “He - nor this letter - gives a reason why but the respective Ministries must have started their investigations already.” This was just yet another issue to add to all the concerns for various situations the department had to deal with, should other Ambassadors begin reporting the same thing.

Not wanting to abandon Sophie, Brody placed his coffee cup on her desk and began digging through all the paperwork for the memos.

Had Roux helped with stuff while she was gone? Who knew? Roux did what Roux wanted and good luck to the person who tried to get Roux to do otherwise. ”Aye…” he said slowly, as he glanced over towards Roux’s work area. It also looked a little backed up. It seemed like it was just one of those times when everyone was swamped and busy and - ”I think his son’s birthday was recent and he’s been back in France…” or something. Conley still had a hard time putting aside Valentin’s past to spend a lot of time with him. ”I’ve got a some time today. What else do you need help with?” He would just drop his cloak off in his office and come back if he was really needed.

Oh goodie. Brody wanted to help. Maybe he could still have a slightly relaxing day. ”Yes, yes…whatever Ambassador Connolly needs…” he waved his hand around in a dramatic fashion that was very unlike him and - well, a lot like his daughter. Perhaps she was rubbing off on her stodgy old papa. Had he noticed how Brody side-stepped out of the conversation. Yes. But he didn’t press. He was about to step away, fully intending on coming back to help in a few minutes when Brody spoke up again. ”Floo powder shortage? But there has never been a floor powder shortage in history…” he held out a hand for the memo. ”Has he?” Well, that was news to him…but then they tried to avoid talking about work too much at home. ”Has anyone informed Transportation?” He was pretty sure the answer would be no even as he asked it. If he was correct, they needed to inform Transportation and Accidents and Catastrophes and St. Mungo's...just on the off chance that some silly witch or wizard decided to try and make their own floo powder.

Hearing Brody mention Gabe being one of the mernapped she stretched out a comforting hand to pet her friend on the arm. "It must have been hard for you to deal with. I'm glad that Gabe has returned home to you now though, hasn't he?" Sophie wondered. "If you ever want to talk about it more I'm here for you." She proclaimed quietly. Merlin knew that her daughter still worried about her, and she had been sick, not mernapped.

Sophie was about to take up and sort a pile of letters, files and whatnot from her desk when Brody's frowning voice caught her full attention. "Floo powder shortage?" she echoed. Surprised, confused, intrigued she asked "Does it say if Floo Pow in DA has been contacted?" This was very odd. "There hasn't been a floo powder shortage to my knowledge since Ignatia Wildsmith invented it in the 13th century." Judging my the stack of letters and memos that was getting larger then maybe there would be more urgent reports of the shortage.

Valentin did whatever Valentin chose to do and when he felt like doing it. Sophie could read between the lines of what Conley wasn't saying. Valentin hadn't been of much use which was why her desk looked like it did. Maybe she had even gotten some of his work dumped on her desk. Time would tell.

Conley though seemed willing to help her too and that warmed her, it showed that he cared for her. Shaking her head in response to her bosses question she said "Considering that we only found that letter now, I'd say that no Transportation or any other department hasn't been contacted. Should we send some internal memos to Transpo, A&C and MO as well as an owl to St Mungos to alert them about the floo powder shortage? I hope no wizard has tried to create their own floo powder yet. I don't want anyone to injure themselves." Especially since they had a number of ways to transport themselves, flooing wasn't the only means to get around. Looking from Brody to Conley Sophie asked "I guess we need to start our own investigation in to this shortage?"

FearlessLeader19 11-16-2022 01:15 PM

The Brody from a few years back would not have appreciated the physical contact. But he had grown and matured and opened up to a few well chosen persons, Sophie being one of them, so the pat on his arm was welcomed. “Thanks, Soph. He is and I couldn’t be happier.” He appreciated her and her words so very much. With his overtime approved on the spot, Brody mentally expanded on his schedule for the day, prioritising tasks for himself and Sohpie. With Conley helping too, they would be able to catch up on the majority of backlogged work. Also, why… was Conley’s hand being so dramatic? How uncharismatic of him.

The Consulate handed the letter over to the boss. The concern among the three of them was evident. Indeed there hadn’t been a Floo Powder shortage. “The fact that there is even a shortage now means that we should also alert the other Ambassadors should their respective countries not be yet aware of the situation.” Brody shook his head. “Sophie’s right. I don’t think they were informed as yet since it's a fairly recent situation.” News spread fast in this place but until something formal was reported to them, those whispers could be classified as rumours. “Shall we split up the tasks? I can take on contacting our other Ambassadors.” There was still informing the other Departments as well as Mungo’s.

Conley’s brain had gone into overdrive thinking of everything that now needed to be done. Among those those thoughts was a ‘so much for a non-busy day.’ Maybe he could still find time for that lunch with Sachin though. It might have to be a bagged lunch in his office, but it would still be lunch. ”Yes memos should be sent,” Since it seemed to be the concensus that it was likely new news. He shifted the items around in his arms. ”But I’ll handle that - Ambassador, you just focus on catching up here. If you find any other correspondence regarding floo powder, please apprise me or Brody of it.” He was a bit worried about stressing Sophie out. He didn’t need her going back to St. Mungos. ”And no, we’ll let Transportation handle the investigation regarding the floo issues. Our focus needs to be on finding out how wide-spread this all is. So yes, Brody, please reach out to the other Ambassadors and any other world-wide contacts you might have. I’m sure the knowledge of which countries are having a shortage and which aren’t will help Transportation with their investigation.”

As for Floo Pow, ”I’ll ask Bumble to send someone over to Floo Pow and check on the company. If memory serves, they’re not particularly inclined to open their doors.” But perhaps they wouldn’t be so cold to a Law Enforcement officer. He started to walk away and then stopped. ”Sophie,” Conley turned back to the ambassador. ”I’ll be back to help when I can. In the meantime, don’t stress yourself out.” And with that he finally made his way to his office.

Sophie was about to make a mental list of what needed to be taken care of in regards to the floo issue when the boss gave his orders. She opened and shut her mouth a couple of times before she finally got out a response to Conley probably showing quite clearly how dissapointed she felt for just being told to sort the stuff on her desk. "All right, I shall get right on that. I'll keep an extra eye out after floo powder related reports, letters and memos." Sophie was about to turn to her desk when she heard Conley's last remark before heading for his office. Nodding she murmured back "I promise to not stress Conley. I shall take it slow and work my way through the stuff methodically." Even if it wasn't as exciting as being involved in contacting peoples about this weird issue.

Sophie watched Conley leave, before she turned her attention to Brody. "I guess you've got people to urgently contact, so i'll see you later?" With those words she turned to the nearest pile of stuff on her desk and began sorting them in piles on the floor.

FearlessLeader19 11-26-2022 12:39 AM

Sophie focusing on catching up wasn’t the worst idea. The Consulate knew that she would much rather spend her time assisting them with this emerging situation that now sat in their hands but like Conley, he thought it was best not to overwhelm her. Right now, he himself had a particular job to get to. There was no need for him to get to Sachin because the Indian Ambassador had already indicated he would drop by with a briefing later in the day. First on his list would be the countries from the Nordic Region since a letter from Scandinavia had already been sent to DIMC. “I’ll start with the Ambassadors then work my way to the others,’’ came his confirmation to Conley. Unknowingly, Brody was also thinking along the line as the Department Head in relation to Floo Pow cooperating with MLE. If that didn’t actually workout, would intervention from the Minister himself help? Oh well. One step at a time.

As Conley left, Brody turned his attention back to Sophie. Immediately he recognised the disappointment that had set upon her face. “Not too much later,’’ he replied, smiling a bit. “I’ll be back as soon as I’ve finished.” Brody straightened up. “There’s something I want to ask you but we can discuss it later. Maybe we can take a break sometime in the morning and we can discuss it over tea or something.” Yes, now that he was in a much better frame of mind, the young man had decided it was time he resumed his foreign language studies. “Catch you soon, Soph.”
