The Greenhouses house any and all plants the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection is currently working on, both indigenous and foreign. This is where the Botanists work their magic - literally and figuratively. A place where Potions ingredients and rare plants are being grown and where the Research and Development team conduct their experiments. After the incidents under Nickles' reign, some of the more aggressive plants have been quarantined into a separate smaller greenhouse, to be tended to only by those specifically assigned to the task.
If you do not work for the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection, you are NOT permitted to enter any of the Greenhouses without being accompanied by a DERP-employee; unless you have been given explicit permission by the Department Head, Olly Emmons-Clarke.
Should you find any of the greenhouses to be short on supplies of any kind, please contact one of the Greenhouse Caretakers.

The mention of Valentin had Sachin throwing a careless look over at the French Ambassador whom he had noticed earlier with a face that he’d seen around the Ministry. The duo seemed to be having a fine time which frankly, Sachin did not care about. That’s when it occurred to him: Valentin would have definitely seen him and Conley together. It didn’t matter, of course. At least now Valentin would quit questioning him about his love life. The thought came as a relief to Sachin as he downed the ginger ale.
Sachin shook his head in amusement at the comment regarding the food. “Sure, Doctor. You should take Conley up on that offer. He eats too little anyway.” Still, no one could ever say he didn’t take care of his husband. Sachin leaned in a little to hear the softly spoken words. Time to go? Well, yes. They had been here for quite a while. “I think so too,’’ he murmured. The Ambassador straightened. “We’ll see you around, Doctor. Early day tomorrow, you know.’’ The Doctor mut know all about those. “Namaste,’’ he added brightly.
The evening indeed had been a fun and interesting one.
[color=#66B447]It was sort of surprising to Sachin that the Doctor was not with MLE since he was into what seemed to be detective work. Then again, there were other mysteries that could be solved than just crime. “I think that’s something very interesting. What would you say is the biggest mystery you’ve unraveled?’’ Listen, Sachin genuinely was interested so he was going to all the questions.
There were many reasons that Nero was not with MLE, each one more fantastic than the last. The doctor was full of tales about his life, many considered myth by those that pass them along in conversation. "Let me tell you about the moon sometime when the air is a little fresher." His nose gave a little wiggle before he punctuated his statement with a sip of his drink.
"It was truly a pleasure. It's good to reminded that i should really try to socialize more." Showing a rare vulnerability, the doctor displayed his sincerity with a smile for a brief moment, before putting his business face back on with a soft rap of his cane upon the floor.
Olly had decided not to have this meeting in the Conference Room but rather right inside the first Greenhouse you come across once you enter. Only a few of the more mundane and harmless plants live here and there's a rather big open space in the middle with small paths leading up to it.
She had come here early today to prepare and had...spent about 2 hours wondering just where to put the chairs. Putting them in a circle felt like they were in school, doing a group project. But it WAS the perfect way for everyone to see everyone. That group feel, right? Or whatever it was called.
Maybe she shouldn't have brought chairs at all.
Either way, in the end, the chairs now probably looked like she'd just levitated them in and dropped them in the most random positions. People could just pull up their chairs and place them wherever they wanted, right? She wasn't their mum. Now, Olly herself, was too sitting in a chair, absently tapping her wand against the palm of her hand, a steaming hot cup of tea on the floor right next to her chair. A flipchart had been placed to her right. So far it was empty, though.

Mariana set her clipboard down and removed her gloves, tucking them into her back pocket as she made her way to the first greenhouse. She’d been pleasantly surprised to hear about the change in location, but approved. Something about sitting in the conference room always crushed her soul a bit. Here with the plants she was way more at ease.
”Hey,” The botanist greeted cheerfully, making her way over to one of the chairs and taking a seat. ”Hope your day has been good so far.” And she genuinely meant it, too.

Calyx had been elbow deep in soil for the past hour, planting some unusual hybrid bulbs, and while he had managed to brush off most of the dirt and general plant matter attached to his person, he did smell distinctly.... planty. Not wholly unpleasant, mind, just of green things and fresh soil, and generally like he had been rolling around in a garden for the duration of the morning, which wasn't actually very far from the truth, since the bulbs he was currently working with were temperamental and only allowed themselves to be handled before sunrise and had necessitated that he come in early.
The wrists of his gardening gloves were tucked in his pocket, leaving them flapping jauntily like an extra pair of hands waving from his hip with every step as his heavy work boots crunched up one of the paths towards the centre.
"Good Morning!" it was! Even if he had missed out on breakfast with his beautiful fiancee it still was. Hehe.

Eureka had been moody the past month, at work at home and even in the street (if possible at all). Today, she was doing well, and her mood was visibly upbeat. She walked into the Greenhouse with a folder tucked close to her chest, smiled at those already in the room. "Hello," her voice was low and soft as usual.
The chairs were... something. Were they purposefully so far apart like this? Eureka dragged one and took a seat next to Mariana. Unlike most of her colleagues, her job mostly required her to work with papers and books. She didn't miss the lovely touch of nature, though, because if you knew where she lived, you'd know she had a big space to maintain back home.

A venus change was much appreciated, even when the nature of Kat's work always brought her to places surrounded by plants. However, she'd take a greenhouse over a conference room for the meantime. At least the plants here haven't gone rogue. After sending a letter of reminders to her daughter at Hogwarts, Kat made her way to the greenhouses to join the rest of her department.
The seat plan was one of the first things the blond noticed. It was...unconventional, but Kat decided not to question. "Hello, Olly...Mariana...Calyx...Eureka," she greeted everyone who was present with a warm smile. She then grabbed the nearest chair, turned it around to face the flip chart, and took a seat.

Lucy had to admit that the setting for the meeting was a tad unorthodox but she also felt more comfortable being surrounded by plants. "Good morning, everyone," she greeted with a smile as she grabbed a chair and sat down.
The auburn-haired woman was carrying a small notebook and quill in her hand, just in case she needed to write down some notes.

Patrick had been constantly working his skinny butt off trying to prove that he was a good employee and not a risk as his application to the ministry had looked. He hadn't been to one of these meetings yet and wasn't sure what to expect. He glanced around at the faces all around the room. He gave a small wave, "Hello everyone."
Apparently the chairs had been arranged the right way.
Good.
Smiling at Mariana when she was the first to arrive, Olly nodded then reached down to grab her cup of tea. "Yeah. I got enough sleep last night." Which was a miracle when you had children you know. "You too, I hope...?" Before she was able to wait for an answer however a distinct smell caught her attention. A good smell (in her eyes), don't get her wrong. When Calyx walked in, she briefly wondered if he just always smelled like that (again, not a BAD thing) or if he had been working on something beforehand.
"Good morning." She greeted him, as well as the others coming into the greenhouse after him. Once Patrick too had arrived (she made a mental note to schedule a meeting with him to discuss his future with this department the next year - he HAD been working very hard after all), Olly decided that she had waited long enough and - after a quick look around - concluded that most of her employees were in fact here already. And seated on the chairs. Good.
With everything happening in the world right now, both inside the Ministry and outside (yes, it was VERY hard to miss), Olly had decided to...not focus on that at all. Compartmentalizing was a thing and definitely a very useful one at that when it came to situations such as this one. So, instead, she had decided to work on something she did in fact have control over.
"Thank you all for coming." Not that they really had had a choice, she WAS their boss but you know. "After the heat wave in August-" Yes, for other people in other countries it might not have seemed that bad but for Olly 30 degrees Celsius was VERY hot, okay? "-I've been thinking about how we can perhaps counteract that in a way. Both outside and inside." She paused to take another sip of her tea. "We all know that more green on the streets and on roofs can cool down the surroundings. That, naturally, will be a first step. But I think we can go further than that. Come up with measures that will provide instant relief as well." She looked around the greenhouse for a moment before ending up gazing over at her empty flipchart.
"I want your help with coming up with a concrete list of things we can do and work on. I want to brainstorm with you today and I'll write everything down and then we can make a list. Maybe our research department-" She looked over at them. "-can come up with a plant that can take heat out of the air and turn it into cool air in a matter of seconds. That it maybe could be used like a fan. But it would be natural." Just an idea. "But I also want us to focus on broader, more long-term measures for our streets and the general outside. Planting some trees isn't enough." Hopefully that had all made sense. She couldn't remember the last time she'd said this much in one go.
Olly fell silent, looking at her employees' faces. Alright. Any suggestions? Any ideas?
OOC: As always, you can of course pretend your character has been there the whole time (otherwise they are LATE as of this post). This is not a lesson in the school rpg so yk there's no one-answer-per-person limit or anything. Nor will you be getting points for participation. Well, maybe brownie points. Anyway, feel free to have your characters discuss things as well of course. I won't be posting again for ~24 hours, so go forth and RP.

Patrick glanced around, he was a peon He hadn't gotten into any hard botany, especially on his own lately. He was racking his brain trying to figure out a way they could keep things cooler he'd like that honestly. Crossing his arms and rocking on his heels he was rolling through the plants he knew of and what they could do to help things.

It WAS a good morning. Calyx smiled cheerily at his boss and scooted one of the chairs a bit closer with an angle that meant he could see everyone else. They got all the cheerful smiles and greetings too, at least until the meeting started and then Olly got his full and earnest attention.
Heatwave. More green. Measures. Brainstorm. Research. Natural!
Hehe!
As she continues, Calyx leaned forward more and more, his interest growing and then all of a sudden blooming.
"Mrs Emmons-Clarke, ma'am," He defaulted to respectful when it came to addressing the department head, not being able to help it, "Maybe we can figure out a way to hybridize a Malagasy Waving Palm, since the natural fanning motion of its fronds could help with air movement, with a plant that makes use of Earth coupling to utilize cooler ground temperatures via deep root systems!" It sounded fun right? Right?

”It’s been good, yeah. Productive.” Which always felt good to say to the boss lady. She offered the woman a smile and then turned her attention to her coworkers as they filed in.
Oh! Oh oh oh! A problem to solve using plants. Mariana was so down for this type of project and the wheels were already turning as Calyx spoke up. Palms were certainly one of the plants that had come to mind and she nodded eagerly in approval of his suggestion.
”I was also thinking we could put up some trellises?”They could be used indoors and outdoors, actually. Vines grow fast and once in place, they could provide some much needed shade, not to mention they’ll look nice.”

For a long time, Natalie hadn't seen herself as a career-woman, but as of late she had become extremely grateful for the 8-hour shifts that kept her body and mind busy. She could just come to work and focus on each individual task at hand as they arose. She was especially grateful for that today. Her mind was busy with personal issues that she didn't care to deal with. And thankfully, there had been a lull in activity for the day with her normal job duties that she had a small break in time to spend in the greenhouse.
Natalie grabbed some greenhouse tools and hid herself in the back of the greenhouse, tending to some plants that looked like they needed some extra care. SHE needed some extra care, but, you know... taking care of plants was easier. So she pruned and weeded, very carefully, humming a light tune to herself and the plants - something she had often done over the years as a plant caretaker.

Aurora left her office in frustration. They still hadn't located the missing dragons that had escaped from the dragon reserve. One new thing she didn't like with her position was to get quoted in daily prophet articles, but it was something to just endure, since it came with the department head job. Luckily Aurora had gotten some pointers from Fletcher and Conley on how to handle it.
With most of her employees out on assignments, the creatures part of level 4 was pretty deserted and silent. After a quick visit in the holding room to give some treats to the creatures awaiting new homes Aurora headed off towards the greenhouses. Maybe they'd had a plant in there for her office that Polly wouldn't try to eat? Entering it took a while for her eyes to adjust to the light before she headed further inside. "Maybe a pink rose would be nice, or some young umbrella flowers." She mumbled to herself as she let her eyes wander over the plants and flowers she passed.

Quentin was afloat.
no, not literally, but figuratively.
He hadn't felt like himself for some time now, not since the beginning of the year when the wind had turned from sweet to bitter, engulfing him in a dispassionate and paranoid embrace. Something was wrong, but Q wasn't sure if it was within or without.
Hence the afloat.
Hence the.. hence.
He found himself most often in the greenhouses, a quick pitstop before he left for the shop. Q had some really beautiful leeching leaf vines he was cultivating (he kept them under careful supervision, of course) that needed his attention. He was five steps into the greenhouse before a very familiar head swam into his vision.
The head was quickly followed by the torso, waist and hips and other extremities of Natalie McKinley, former employee and current coworker. "Hullo." Quentin said, his voice light.

Yes, this was her happy place. The warm, humid atmosphere that smelled like soil and blooming life. As she hummed, Natalie heard footsteps (two pairs, perhaps) enter the greenhouse and continued tending to the echevaria before her. She couldn't help but hear what the other woman was saying, quite possibly to herself, about flowers. Roses were fine, sure.
"There are some Everlasting Echevaria over here," the young herbologist said, her eyes still focused on the young little chick that the plant had grown - she wanted to be careful that she didn't hurt the little plant baby when she cleaned it up. In her peripheral vision, Natalie noticed a figure and assumed it was whoever the woman was. "Rumor has it they spontaneously bloom when they sense.............. happiness."
The last word came out as a whisper and Natalie felt frozen in time. She had finally lifted her eyes to see her new friend, but her eyes fell upon an old friend instead. "Q," she said, her voice also light, not really hearing herself anyway. "H-hi..." She knew he worked here. She did know that. But she had sort of been avoiding him - avoiding the places she knew he would be because she had been scared to think, to feel.... exactly what she was feeling right in that moment. Which was a lot of things.
She had forgotten about the other voice she had heard. The one who mentioned roses. Her hands were covered in soil. Behind her, a yellow blossom emerged and bloomed from one of the Everlasting Echevaria she had just mentioned.

Aurora was smelling the flowers and plants that she passed as she walked further inside the greenhouse. She didn’t see the younger woman, sitting there tending to some baby plant’s until she spoke up. Aurora looked over at the plants that the young herbologist mentioned before she turned to face the dark haired woman with a small smile that pursed her lips. "A plant like the Everlasting Echervaria that spontaneously blooms when it senses happiness seems like something that all departments need in their work areas, and not just me in my new office." It was something she’d note to bring up at their next department head meeting.
Then they were joined by a man that Aurora didn’t recognize, but like the woman probably worked in the Environmental department. It was clear too that the two younglings knew each other because the tension in the air increased. Walking closer to them she greeted as she pulled away some blond strands of hair out of her face. "Hi, I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure to meet. I’m Aurora Bagnold, the new head of Magical Creatures, and you two are?"
The vines look agitated as they wiggle and tangle themselves around whatever they can reach and the flesh eaters chatter their teeth despite the humid temperatures of the greenhouse. One may wonder if they are teething again...until one sees the shattered pot and ravaged remains of one of their fellow flora. Rest in pieces, not-so-little plant.
The whole greenhouse seems to be on edge and even the mundane plants appear as though they have withered.
And then, not exactly six feet under but certainly under a work station, lays the face down body of one Delyth Dominique on the floor. Incredible pale and deposited in a position that seems too uncomfortable for anyone willingly fall asleep in, one can be rest assured that she is alive.

But barely.
Working in the Greenhouses was exactly what Iliana had hoped for when she applied to work at the Ministy. Working with plants was one of the few things that she could truly focus on for more than an hour or so on a daily basis and still enjoy it. Herbology had always been something she had good at so this had seem liked the perfect fit for her. Turns out, she had been right. The young woman loved her job.
As per usual for her, she entered the Greenhouse for her usual shift with a light smile already on her face. However that smile was instantly gone the moment she stepped foot inside.
What had happened in here?!
It was hot and humid as it should be but she actually see some of the flesh eating plants chattering their teeth and where others shivering? Some plants looked extremely upset and clearly things weren't right. Iliana could feel it almost, like a sense of dread that hung in the air. "It's okay.. whatever is going on I'll figure it out. Don't anyone worry.." she hummed as soothingly as she could hoping to calm the plants a little. They weren't alone anymore.
Pulling her wand from it's holster on her wrist, Iliana moved further into the Greenhouse looking around slowly. That's when her gaze fell upon whomever it was laying beneath one of the work stations. "Hello?" she cautiously moved closer kneeling down slowly near the person to check for signs of a pulse and breathing. "Can you hear me?"
This was NOT good. She was going to need some help. Fast. Hopefully one of her co-workers would get here soon. Like now, please.

Jake had always tried to steer clear of this department, and especially this area. A lot easier, as a Hit Wizard and then Auror, but less so now that he spent more time in and around the Ministry itself, though the fact that the Greenhouses were generally off limits to those not in the department meant that Jake was seldom required even to peer inside for whatever he needed.
Sentient or semi-sentient plants made him just a little twitchy, enough that he gave the door to the greenhouses a wide berth, but today he was having real trouble tracking down the person he needed, and this was the last possible place in the department he could check. Jake poked his head inside, just for a better look, not intending to enter if it turned out to be fruitless. Immediately he could tell something was up, though was totally unable to put his finger on it, and that was before he caught sight of one of the Level Four employees kneeling by a workstation. Could be nothing, but...
... Ugh, fine. Going with his gut. Heading inside. "Is everything okay?" Jake called out, entering the greenhouse and making his way over, not yet able to see if there was anything to be seen. If nothing else, he might be able to find who he was looking for.
In the meantime, he was watching you, plants.

If Stella Starson was asked how much she loved her job she would say it's the best job in the world, she truly loved her job and anyone who seen the greenhouse knew so. Stella put so much love and work into the greenhouse along with her friend and co worker Iliana. She loved her job, some say it wasn't much but it was quite a task to look after all the plants heew and keeping them up to date and top standards. She loved plants, they were just like humans they had thoughts and feelings as well.
Humming to herself, she walked into the Greenhouse putting her hair up and back as she stopped dead in her tracks a look of horror on her face. What on earth happened?! This wasn't how her and Iliana left it at all, not one bit they cared about their job and the greenhouse. "What on earth happened?" Looking around she tried calming the plants down while looking around the greeehouse. Making her way towards the work station she stopped dead in her tracks her heart dropping to her stomach. "I..Is she dead?" Taking her wand out of her holster she bit her lip. This was NOT good, all she could ask herself was what on earth happened? Not to mention a body on the floor, she was trying to stay calm.
