The conference room is large, and magically adjustable so that it can expand to fit the entire department if necessary. This is where information and demonstrations can be magically projected for presentations and briefings, without worry that those outside the room will overhear thanks to the enchantments in place. A large circular table is in the center of the room surrounded by comfortable - but not too comfortable that you would want to sit in them all day - chairs for each employee.

All divisions of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes are permitted to make use of the conference room, but meeting times must be booked so that there are no clashes.

Daisy had been in the room early - as usual - to help set things up for the party. Then she had stepped out for a little bit and people had started to arrive, including her boss. "Hello everyone," she said as she made her way back into the room and gave an apple to Maddox to join the other one that he had already been given. What a good personal assistant she was!

She smiled at Megan as she took her seat. Of course food WOULD be a priority for people; this was a party after all. "Well there are fruits and veggies and some sandwiches. All kinds of pastries as well." And of course there was the usual drinks of water, juice, coffee, and tea to go with the food.

He'd heard them coming before they hit the door of the Conference Room, a sure sign his animagus mishap was getting no better. The man sometimes worried there would be no cure but he was still optimistic.

The apple he caught, giving Megan an appreciative grin before biting into the one he was currently working on.

"Morning." He greeted the other two to arrive. Both Micky and Gideon seemed just a little skeptical of this gathering or at the very least somewhat surprised by it. That was half the fun. Couldn't always be boring meetings, Merlin knows he'd start skipping the start of the work year if that was the case.

Ah and there she was, the woman who got this all in motion. "I was wondering where you'd disappeared to." Maddox said, flashing his Personal Assistant a lazy grin. Oh and another apple. Brilliant party this was turning into. It was sad to note Eliora would no longer be with them. She brought a certain life to the Department. Hard one to replace, that one.

"Tell me any of you had a more eventful holiday than I did, or at the very least a restful one."

"Hey, Gid, hey Micky. How's it going?'' Megan threw her co-workers a grin on her way over to inspect the foods. And there was the woman who had gotten all this together. "Hey, Daisy. You know just the right foods for a party.'' She would be attacking a pastry soon...

... right after she answered the boss man's question. Damn, that man could eat apples! Megan never favoured the fruit and was quite glad to pass off any to him whenever Yuna brought a few to keep at the apartment. "I certainly didn't. Life has gotten boring. I hope we have an eventful week here,'' she said and finally took a big bite out of her pastry.

Daisy returned her boss' grin. Really it wasn't a surprise that he had wondered where she had gotten off to, but it was no matter because she was back and everything was being set into motion. "Needed to talk to my youngest for a few minutes. You know what that's like." Being a parent and everything. And as to the holiday... "I can't say that it was EVENTFUL, but it was rather nice and a bit restful." Of course she had spent a lot of her time with Milo and the kids. There had been some fun, but she'd definitely taken advantage of the time off. Not that being a personal assistant was terrible; actually she loved her job. It made her feel useful and helping out was something that she enjoyed doing.

"Thanks, Megan," she added with a laugh. That was a nice compliment. "So how have you been? Megan was someone who Daisy had always liked. As she talked, she dug into one of the sandwiches. Yep, this was the perfect kind of party food in her opinion.

Hadn't expected her to be back, had you? Bursting into the conference room with a grin on her face was Eliora Amorette Dodderidge, QUEEN of this department. "HONEYYYYYYYYS. Did you miss me?!" With that, and her lack of professionalism around Maddox (hi babe are we getting married yet??), she draped her arms over his shoulders and continued to grin. Truth was, she'd managed an hour of her trial week at her new (old now?) job before they said she needed to stop rating guys by numbers. So she had withdrawn her letter of notice from the Ministry and lived to terrorise her colleagues for another day.

"SO. What did I miss? How was orientation? How IS everyone?" HI HI HI. Was there any coffee around? Hmmmm coffeeeeeeeeeee.

Cup of coffee in hand, stack of files neatly tucked under his arm, Maddox Quigley made his way into the Conference Room. He suspected his Personal Assistant would've already gotten the meeting room set up for the meeting with the little muffins and some trays of warm beverages but he'd had prior arrangements to this one and that had called for it's own cup of coffee.

Maddox flopped down into this seat at the head of the table, giving a cursory glance over to the refreshment table. This morning, as tired as he was, he opted to remain in the form of a man. It wasn't nearly as appealing as curling up under the table in a ball of black fluff and fur but for the sake of fostering an atmosphere of business discussion, he would remain as is.

Occasionally the man glanced at the clock on the opposite wall of the room but there was no haste as he raised the mug to his mouth. There was still time before anyone would be late and he suspected most would show up just when they needed to.

The files were laid before him on the table. While this meeting would be to get an account of how things were going so far, he also had a few things that needed to be brought forward for the sake of everyone working on Level 3.

One would've thought that by now Derek would've gotten used to seeing people all the time and mingling and being in meetings in general. Right, okay, he didn't freak out as much as he used to and he actually didn't feel like throwing up before meetings anymore, but he still most certainly did not feel at ease in such situations.

He was there nonetheless. It was his job, after all. Nothing he could do to avoid it. Sadly.

The PART Supervisor entered the room as quietly as he could and when he momentarily glanced up to see who was already there... half of him was pleased the room was nearly empty, but the other half felt terribly uncomfortable as this meant there was a possibility that small talk would have to be made as there was no one else there for his boss to engage in conversation with.

Only Derek was awful at those.

"Morning." He said, his gaze darting from the man on the other side of the room to the seat Derek was about to take. He did get some tea before sitting down, however. If he had something to occupy his hands with and something to consume, he hoped he would be able to avoid the dreaded small talk once the others arrived.

Another year, another one of these get-together/catching up meetings. Gideon was used to it by now, well as much as one could be find with the fact that it was a shake-up of the usual working environment. No just handling stuff in lab or going out on assignment or the dreaded paperwork but actually having to face others and report on whatever was going on. Already in the department for the day, he was settled in before having to move to the conference room in time for the gathering. It seems as he stepped inside, he was on the early side as only his division head and department head were already there before him.

Well proof of a certain office assistant as well given the food and drink spread.

“Good morning,” Gideon politely greeted as he moved to said table to freshen up his cup. Hopefully it wouldn't be too dreadful a meeting.

Megan yawned widely, her hand automatically reaching up to cover her mouth with her hand just as she took her first step into the Conference Room. "M-m-morning, boss man.'' She lowered her hand. "Derek, Gideon.'' The blond spared them a sleepy smile before she planted herself on the furthest chair from the door.

Could she just take a nap? Staying up late with Yuna had been fun but the price to pay for it was no easy thing especially when it was a day they had to work. She wondered how the fiancé was faring right now. "Probably loaded up on coffee,'' the thirty two year old thought. She herself had already consumed three cups but they seemed to be of no help.

Megan propped herself on an arm and rested her chin on it. No one pay her any attention if she fell asleep.

And so it began.

Blue eyes watched as employee after employee filed into the Conference Room, some looking more alert than others--looking at you Megan. He watched them all over the brim of his mug, returning each greeting with a nod or a muffled greeting of his own. Best get this meeting rolling before Megan's mood rubbed off on him. You wouldn't believe how hard he was currently fighting to give off the appearance of not desperately wanting a nap.

Was it possible to be immune to coffee? The man was almost sure it was where his body was headed.

"Morning everyone." A general greeting as he watched the last of them enter. Some he assumed would be late but they could catch up with the meetings the secretary took. A memo would be sent out.

"I'll say I like what I'm seeing where the Department's productivity is concerned as a whole." Best start with the praise, no need to get into the nitty gritty just minutes after they arrived. "The hard work's paying off and we haven't had any major set backs since the mishap with Law Enforcement last year." He paused, letting them take that in, for whatever it was worth. "There are a few things I needed to run by you but first, I'd like some updates. In the same breath, I'll be listening to any concerns that may have arisen. If you'd prefer to discuss those in private, my office door is.......usually open."

He looked about the room again, before sitting back in his chair indicating they could begin.

Late? No, she wasn't late. In fact, Eliora had been caught up in last minute work (and breakfast with Ursula) and had left a stack of paperwork on Maddox's desk for him to look over when he had the chance. The usual stuff, plus some of her party planning ideas for when Briar got home this summer. You know... Maddox was her WORK HUSBAND (!) and therefore he had to also approve on plans for her children. It was all part of his job whether the description said that or not.

She already had coffee in her posession, but was close to finishing it so she filled her cup with what was on offer at the table. "Morning, Maddy. Morning guys." She hadn't missed Maddox talking, but he did start doing that when she took the closest seat to him and gave his ankle a knock under the table.

Hey best friend, hey.

Concerns? OH YES. Eliora had lots of them. Hand straight up in the air, she wiggled her fingers at Maddy and grinned. "I STILL think we should be having weekly team dinners, Maddy. Even if it's just Ursula, you and I. It might stop people feeling underVALUED and unAPPRECIATED and then people wouldn't quit under your reign of beautiful terror, honey." Aw cute, didn't he just LOVE her enthusiasm and compliments?

OF COURSE HE DID.

"Thank you, Eliora." Blink. Blink. Blink. Maddox took a looong sip of his own coffee, not entirely sure how to reply to the woman at first. How DID one reply to something like that when it came from her of all people? He doubted Ursula would've had any objections either--yes, he saw the way her face lit up at the idea. Never a dull moment with those two, eh?

"We wouldn't want anyone feeling unappreciated....or in the need of new occupation." He couldn't lie, the office had been different without her--not that his wife minded. "So yes, we'll put this out there. If anyone else is feeling undervalued or unappreciated.....honestly I don't think there'll be a better time to voice it." Eliora had opened the door and he'd never hear the end of it if he just closed it.

She knew she wasn't undervalued or unappreciated though, right? Merlin, he didn't wanna have to have a dinner a week. That sounded like a whole lot of........effort.

Ava had arrived quite early at the Ministry today... Well, early enough for this 10am meeting anyhow. To Ava, anyone more than 15 minutes early was late. She had entered the room and greeted everyone there with a nod and a subtle smile. "Good morning," she offered, not having met some of them personally yet. She took a seat, and pulled out her notebook waiting for the meeting to begin.

She was grateful to say that she didn't have anything to bring to the group's attention thus far, and so she sat there listening for now.

Derek's way of 'greeting' people as they came in was to look at them briefly before shifting his gaze back to his cup of tea. Short eye contact should count as something, at least in his opinion. In his case, it meant something along the lines of 'good morning, please don't talk to me anymore, thanks'.

To the very few who mentioned his name, he went as far as giving them a nod in return because he wasn't awfully rude - not intentionally, that was - and he knew for a fact that some people would nag for the rest of eternity if he didn't acknowledge their acknowledgement, which, in his opinion, was quite ridiculous, but he could do nothing about that. People were ridiculous. He had learned to deal with it.

But wow. Eliora had the ability to always make everything awkward, didn't she? Since Derek could remember, she had been pretty much the same and YET he could not get used to that. And that relationship with the boss was just too much for Derek and he wasn't sure he could take it without feeling horribly uncomfortable.

She did it on purpose, Derek was sure.

Undervalued and unappreciated? Not Derek. He was okay, thanks. He was happy to be on his own in the lab with his cauldron, thank you very much. The man's way of externalising those thoughts was to hold his cup of tea closer to himself and look at it even more intently. He was fine, no need for 'appreciation' or any of that rubbish.

Megan could feel Maddox's eyes on her rather than see them as she was deliberately staring at the wall behind him. No need to worry, boss man. She was focused. Very focused. Megan acknowledged the others with a nod and a sleepy smile. Could this day be over already, please? She wanted to go back home and sleep.

It was rather a relief when the meeting got started.

The blond had nothing to report so she just sat there listening to everyone. The reports were boring and like a bedtime story, they made her even sleepier. Once or twice her head would nod forward leaving her head falling forward onto her chest. In turn, she would suddenly jerk awake.

Until Eliora spoke that is. Megan stared at the woman. Undervalued and unappreciated? She certainly never felt that way. Maybe if Eliora just did her job and not look forward to anything in return, she would be a happier soul.

"Don't have that problem, boss.'' She was quite happy and content, thank you. "We just need some more excitement around here.'' She was an adventurous kinda woman maybe that's why she made that suggestion.

Thankfully it didn't seem that anyone else was feeling undervalued and unappreciated. Good. Honestly. There was only so much he could do and boosting morale would take a lot of work. A lot of time. A lot of dedication. Merlin he was growing weary just thinking about it.

"Interesting you should say that." He quipped at Megan's remark on how quiet things had gotten. You'd think not having as much work to do would be a good thing in an area where you having work to do meant something had gone horribly wrong but not for his employees. Some were on the same level as those over on Level 2 who relished a mission despite it meaning something had gone horribly wrong.

"If there are no more concerns or queries, I'd like to turn your attention to a few things. First. There have been some....." How did he put it? "....Odd....happenings about the ministry." Yes, odd might have been the right word for it. "A few employees have reported feeling or even behaving strangely. A cause has yet to be determined and there isn't much information I can give at this moment except that if you see something, say something--immediately. This isn't to alarm anyone, but it would be nice to nip this in the bud before it becomes too large an issue." Being in Accidents and Castatrophes, they already knew the Department would have a part to play if things did get worse, yes?

Surely it went without saying.

"Additionally, the cursed artifact that was found in the breakroom last year is finally being relocated. There will be a pair of archaeologists stopping by at some point. Until then, I'd also like you to be careful as the artifact has been known to exhibit some strange behaviour and should not be taken lightly."

It was still being housed on Level 3, so he needed them to keep their guard up.

"Now then," The man eased forward, lowering his mug atop the table. "If there's nothing else, you're free to go."

Ava listened attentively, but did not feel the need to write notes. Be aware? Obviously. Be cautious? Shouldn't that just be their department's motto? Anyway, it was interesting to hear the goings on, both in the present, and previous happenings that were still impacting them. She hoped she could gather more detail than that. Especially the current issues. Was someone purposefully trying to sabotage the ministry? Or was it a little less sinister? Hmm...

Megan shrugged and stifled back a yawn. "Well, yeah. I mean I'm thinking that's why I'm so sleepy of recent. Nothing proper happens now.'' She'd kill for some action right about now. Though she did straighten up when Maddox made the announcement about the strange occurrences. Her eyes gleamed. Here was a possibility for something exciting to happen for their department! Though it was quite a shame that persons had to suffer. Megan would definitely be keeping an eye and ear out for more happenings.

The mention of the artefact from the break room brought back memories. She had been one of the first to discover it and it seemed to have happened only yesterday. Since it still remained in their department, she came across it more often that she would like. "It's about time they check that thing out,'' she muttered.

Megan stood up and stretched. "Anything exciting that anyone needs help with? Bossman? Eliora? Newbies?'' The woman was dying for some work excitement.

Megan earned herself a quick glance from Derek after mentioning she was so sleepy as of recently and basically implying she was bored. The PART supervisor was momentarily torn between letting her fall asleep in the lab - which meant one less person for him to deal with - and giving her more work to do. He would decide on what path to take later on, once they had left this meeting.

There had been some odd happenings in the Ministry. Wasn't there always? Derek didn't look surprised - because he wasn't - and continued to watch his cup of tea as his boss spoke.

He listened intently to what was being said and frowned slightly as he thought about what was happening. 'Before it became too large an issue'. That meant they would step in at one point or another. Derek took a mental note and another sip of the tea.

Careful with the artifact. Another mental note taken, although he was already being cautious about that one.

Derek got up to leave once Maddox said they were free to go, only to hear Megan ask if there was anything exciting with which anyone needed help. And she asked Maddox, Eliora and the newbies, specifically. The man rolled his eyes and was silently glad his name wasn't mentioned, giving him the perfect excuse to slip out through the door to go back to his lab.

Drink all settled, Gideon moved to take a seat figuring they were almost about to get started. “Morning,” he returned to Megan as the woman joined them in the conference room. A little sleepy it seemed but everyone had those days. Soon enough Maddox was beginning and the potioner listened intently as he sipped on his coffee. As for updates, he himself had nothing to report, his gaze bouncing between his teammates to see what they had to say.

If there was one person in the department that Gideon was weary of, it was the woman who entered next and late and gained a simple inclination of his head in response to her greeting. Eliora was…an enigma to say the least. And underappreciated? Certainly wasn’t referring to him and in his opinion, wasn’t really referring to their boss as the one doing the underappreciating. What was she expecting…daily worship?

Thankfully the topic was brought back to useful information the department head wished to share. Gideon couldn’t help the quirk of the eyebrow at what he was hearing. People feeling and behaving weirdly? “Something in the water?” he mused aloud. Dealing with potions, he was aware of the effects ingested things can have on the human body. But the move didn’t seem to be being made just yet on the matter so he would be keeping an eye out for sure.

At least that artifact was gone.

And they were free to go.

"Not on my end...." he absently answered Megan as he got back up to his feet.
