The first thing you see when you walk into the room are the dark walnut walls and desk. He managed to find a nice decent chair to replace his old one from his previous department. He has a large desk with shelves around and behind him, filled with books both magical and muggle. Many based on history, even more on law. One entire bookcase is filled with law books for all the ministries around the world.

In front of his desk are two straight backed chairs that are more comfortable than they look. Closest to the door, just to the side is a dark colored sofa and chairs with a small table in the center for a more quiet and one on one meeting area.

Now, how easy was it to just walk into the department, go through it practically unnoticed and get into the Department Head's office? For Becca, it was fairly easy. She'd walked into Gid's office and plonked herself down on the sofa without even caring that he wasn't there. She was laid on the sofa and had a cushion behind her head. Hopefully her husband would get his butt into his office.

After having stopped throughout the department his ears were ringing now and he rubbed his left ear as he stepped inside his office. He looked around though as he entered because something seemed out of place. What was...OH! He spotted Becca almost immediately and smiled softly "Hi love" he said softly in case she was asleep.

When Gid saw her, she smirked at him. "Hello handsome." she leant back more into the sofa, tilting her head. "And where have you been?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. "I managed to get in here without anyone stopping me or asking me why I was here and do you know? I find that very disturbing."

"I....I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off" he muttered and moved to sit in a chair nearest to her. "That isn't a good thing no. I'll have a talk with those in security. You shouldn't have been able to get through yet that easily. I wanted to meet with them and make sure you're not denied getting in the department." Just please don't make problems! He didn't want arguments in the department about how things were going. At home or outside work he was fine with it, but not in front of everyone! "How's it going today for you?"

Sigh. "The phrase is running around like a headless chicken." Idiot. "I know it's not really the same in Italian, but still, you should know the difference with English being your first language." Or maybe that language was imbecile? "You should definitely do that." she tilted her head. "I don't care if they try to deny me. I'll get in anyway." Heh, secrets were fun. "Not great. Already had an argument, got told to keep my opinions to myself if I want to be liked and found out my department head just really doesn't care." she sighed deeply. "Not what you want to hear."

He flushed a little and shook his head shrugging "It's how I put it." It was, he'd always said it that way. He stuck his tongue out at her though, amused. "I will be. I never thought it would stop you either way but it's better to have those in place regardless." His eyes went to her when she spoke though. "That's not a good sign. That's a little concerning to be honest. Has he considered you for any other positions?"

Her blue eyes focused on his slightly pink cheeks when he spoke. He was obviously having issues with the terms. "Yeah, well good luck stopping me anyway." Yeah, she knew he'd always let her in or she'd sneak in and climb the walls to get in. Heh. "I don't know. He said he prefers to make decisions based on what he sees. I get the feeling he doesn't care whether I move up the department or not." she sighed.

He snorted at her comment "Maybe I should just warn my team if they see someone sneaking around it was likely you?" he said with a soft laugh. "It'll stop them from overreacting to a possibility of someone breaking into the department. He really wanted to make sure his team and him were both on the same page. He didn't know how the security worked here and wanted to know it in full detail. Maybe he should meet with them too. Hmm... His eyes went to Becca again and sighed shaking his head "I'd just go over and above what's asked then and then request a promotion as soon as it's complete."

She laughed. "Yeah, likely me." Becca liked sneaking. "Yeah, but maybe they should be... alert." Infiltration was not a good thing to have happen in a department full of people who were supposed to be vigilant. "Maybe, just ask them what they think their jobs are and get the answers from them and work from that?" It would help him to understand what they thought their jobs were and go from there.

"I've already asked what I need to do, but he just said to do my job." Biggest kick in the teeth she'd had recently apart from being shunned from MLE so Gid could work there as the department head without any rumours flying around.

"Most definitely on both counts" Always on your toes, he always said particularly when training YATI. Or as Mad Eye would have said 'constant vigilance'. He nodded "I will. I want to go through everything with each team and see where everything stands. I trust them and know they know what they need to do. I just want to see that we're all on the page." He knew eventually they'd all be settling easily enough. It just took time time for new heads to get the feel of the department.

He nodded "Merlin....so he really doesn't even want to work with you at all. I would be at his door each time if it were me. Saying, it's completed I'd like to promote up and not have you put my abilities to waste."

"Don't let them slack." Becca warned him. "You're in charge of them and if you let them slack, I will kick your butt." she replied, narrowing her eyes at him. She'd take him down to their workout room in the house and give him a run for his money while telling him how to run the department successfully. You didn't just wake up and know how to do that, especially with a department like Law Enforcement. "Good. Make sure they know you trust them."

"Apparently not. When I told him what I can do, he just got really bored and thanked me for repeating my achievements. He seemed to lose complete interest and even seemed to enjoy telling me to work for it." Like she hadn't worked all her life already.

He snorted and shook his head "I wouldn't do that. They will do what is expected. I just need to make sure I have the same understanding as they do." Simple as that right? He couldn't expect them to read his mind nor could he read theirs! He smirked a little though at her saying she'd kick his butt. Well, as long as he was able to work still it wouldn't bother him too much. "You taught me well love" he said gently "Don't worry I won't destroy the department."

He sighed shaking his head "That's just wrong. Personally if an employee felt they were being used to their full ability, I'd look at what it was I could do to encourage them to do more or promote them to where they belonged."

Good. "Good, well done." she responded, taking a deep breath. "I obviously didn't teach you that well." she eyed him. "I heard about a problem that happened in front of the Minister. Word travels fast around here." Becca looked at him, biting her lip. "I'm not impressed, love. I feel like I should have been there." He had asked her to be there, but she'd had her own meeting to go to.

"Weren't..." she corrected him gently, but nodded and sighed deeply. "I get the feeling that I'm just here because I applied back to the Ministry, not because I can help." Was she the token red-head?

He smiled softly and nodded but then sighed at her comment. "Yeah, that was definitely not something we planned. Talk about a bad way to introduce our department...." He bit his lip and nodded "I wish you had but you have your duty to Level 3 too. It's something we encountered, with bad timing at that."

He nodded at her correction "That's not fair though either. You belong in this department and though I understand why you're not localized here in MLE you are in a department that could really use your skills. If they choose to use them."

"Yeah, but you weren't exactly quick to react, were you?" Becca sat up, sighing. "We'll work on your reflex training this week, I think." And focused on it even more in the future.

"I know I am, and I know. You also know that I'm really not happy about the reason I am NOT in MLE. We used to work together all the time and we never had any issues." Why did no one believe that??? "I'm just... obviously here for show."

He dropped his head a little "No. I didn't expect anything of the sort to happen either. I hadn't realized someone would bring something into the meeting like that." Honestly he felt they needed to work on reflex training regardless though!

"I know that. I wish I could help them see that won't be an issue. We work amazing as a team, but I won't step out of bounds unless they realize we work better together rather than apart." He narrowed his eyes and shook his head "For show? I think it's more they don't believe you have the ability. And they're going to be pretty shocked when they realize how wrong they were. Give it time."

"Well that's just a problem that you need to work out with your department and employees." Becca replied, shaking her head. "We're still working on reflex stuff though." Whether he liked doing it or not.

"Time. Time. All I hear is give it flippin' time!" Becca threw her cushion at Gid. "I've waited all my life to get here, I think 48 years is time enough!" He, of all people, KNEW that time was precious!

He nodded "I don't disagree, that's where anyone and everyone could always work on. You can never have too much reflex work. That's where everyone should be focusing to make sure their responses are quick." He was concerned about that box though too. He wanted to find out more about it. Where had it come from?

He ducked but grabbed for the cushion "I know you have. They don't realize it themselves. They don't know your capabilities except for the ones you've said on the application. They want to see you in action."

"Yeah, but we are going to work personally on yours. You can do what you want with your staff, but if you're going to live with me, you will have fast reflexes." Whether he liked it or not.

Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. "Yes, but I've already said that I'm quite happy to show him what I can do. He just seems to think that he can do what he wants and isn't being policed." she sighed deeply.

He nodded biting his lip at her comment. He knew that. He knew she rode him hard on his abilities that's how he'd gotten to where he was right then. He wouldn't be in his position if he didn't know what was required.

He shook his head "I can try talking with him, but I don't know if it'll be of any help. Hopefully he'll do more in time after seeing your skills."

"You have to be able to do what you're asking them to do." Becca told him softly. "If you won't do a job, how can you expect anyone else to?" That was one thing she hated about some managers. They tried to tell you what to do without having a single ounce of knowledge about the subject.

Sighing, Becca reached for the cushion that she'd thrown at Gid. "I don't need you to try and fight my corner. I can do that on my own. It's not like you tried to fight to get me into MLE." Yeah, maybe she was still slightly bitter? Okay, a lot bitter. It was like biting into the orange peel that was laced with turmeric and having to pretend everything was okay. It wasn't easy or fun.

He nodded "I know." he said softly. "I need to show my employees that I'm just as capable and not just telling them to do stuff because either I don't know how or I'm just too lazy to do it myself." He had to be out and doing stuff himself too, working as a team not one doing everything.

He passed the cushion back to her. "I know that" he said with a sigh. "I just want people to see you in the light you deserve, just as anyone else. No one should be given such treatment no matter what. Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves. And no one's abilities should be wasted either." UGH, he had fought to get her in MLE! "I had love." he said quietly.

"Good. They can't think you're looking down on them. You're a team, sometimes you need to let them take the lead and just be there to fix it if something goes wrong... and sometimes you just have to say no." She'd done that before and even if it felt awful to say no, someone's safety was more important than them getting what they want.

Taking the cushion and settling back against it, Becca looked at her husband. "Yeah, well I'm getting that right now. Just like I have all my life." She let out a deep sigh once more. "Just... don't go there." she looked away from him, studying a spot on the carpet. It was still raw and painful. If he'd done it the way she'd taught him, she'd have been there.

He nodded "Exactly. It's no way to earn respect from them. Or from anyone really" he said quietly. He had learned that the hard way at times too. Ed had been one that he'd struggled with from the start and it had taken awhile to gain that respect. Though he couldn't say he had respect from Kingston yet but he was just one of those odd cases. He hated saying no to his staff, though. He had to in the past and to put his foot down at times. They definitely didn't always see eye to eye.

He shook his head and sighed softly. "You shouldn't have to reprove yourself" he said quietly. "So much has changed here over the years, it's as if we never even existed here in some cases." Too true for that really. "It's like a whole new generation is here now. DEFINITELY not going there.
