Level One Lobby and Reception

https://s26.postimg.org/crso4zyu1/mo-lobby-banner.jpg

When you step out of the lifts you are greeted by a well lit lobby. To your right there are bathrooms. There is also a security desk here, permanently occupied by two members of ministry security where all visitors must sign in. Further into the lobby there is a waiting area where you may take a seat, though be sure to check in at the large reception desk first as you will be directed to exactly where you need to go, and escorted if necessary.

There are two entrances to the level - the first opens onto a long corridor just past the security desk which leads to the Minister's Office, The Junior and Senior Undersecretary's office, the break room, and several private offices. If you take a left through the first entrance, you will bypass these restricted work areas, meet up with the second entrance behind the reception desk, and find your way to the level 1 archives, the main work areas, and the newly appointed dual conference and meeting rooms.

From Apparition Classroom

After disapparating from the apparition classroom, Daisy had apparated into the lobby, appearing right in front of the reception desk. She looked around and waited for her form to be signed. Who to ask? The security guards, maybe? Daisy wasn't sure if that was permitted.

The front desk wasn't January's normal place to work, since she had her own office with all her paperwork in it, but that's where the Senior Undersecretary was today - just temporarily. When the apparition office asked for volunteers to assist with licensing people for apparition, January volunteered to let them pop into level one. It, one, let them peek into the level of the ever-mysterious Minister's Office, and two, allowed her to stretch her legs, meet new people and pass the time.

So when the first person popped right into the reception area, January looked up with a smile and stood up from the desk.

"Hello there, dear," she said, coming around the desk to give her a good look over. "No splinching, I see. Everything feel in place?" Because if she was missing a toe, she'd have to redo the test. "Have you got something for me to sign?" Because as far as January was concerned, the girl had been successful!

Daisy smiled at the woman and nodded. "Yes. Everything is intact, thankfully. Here is the form for you to sign." She handed her form for it to be signed. As she waited for it to be signed, Daisy was mentally preparing herself to apparate to her last destination.

Apparition test \o/

Not knowing this floor very well - or, er... at all - Kaiser wasn't entirely sure of the specifics of where he was apparating to. As such, when he popped into existence in the lobby on level one, he was so close to one of the lifts that any closer and he'd have ended up inside of it. But he'd definitely made it to the lobby, so there was that, at least.

As he turned on the spot - not to apparate, this time, but to get his bearings - Kaiser raised one hand to his face and prodded at the space above his eyes. Okay. Eyebrows intact. Nothing else felt like it was missing, either. So far, so good.

A little further into the lobby, Kaiser spied one of the others who had been taking the test, talking to a red-haired woman that he assumed was some kind of ministry official. Supposing that this was the person he, too, needed to see to get his form signed, Kaiser quietly stepped up as well.

"Excellent job," January said as she took the form from the girl. Then she set it on the counter beside her and signed it with a blue inked pen. Turning back to the girl, she handed her the signed form. "There you are. Good luck." She just had one more to go!

Just as she was seeing the other girl off, another examinee popped into the lobby and January turned her attention to him. "Hello there, well done. All in one piece." Sure, he was close enough to to the lift to kiss it, but that didn't matter. She gave the boy a once-over, noting that he looked all together and didn't seem to be bleeding. That was good enough for her.

"I'll take that," she said warmly as she took the form from the boy and did the same as she had done with the previous - signed her name in loopy letters with blue ink. Then she handed it back to the boy. "And off you pop."

Literally.

Though he was fairly certain he hadn't left any parts of himself behind, Kaiser was glad to get the confirmation from someone who had an outside view of him. "Hello," Kaiser said back to the woman as he closed the distance and held out the clipboard for her to take.

There wasn't a whole lot of time to look around while the form was signed, but that didn't stop Kaiser from trying. He peered around the lobby, through to the waiting area, and had just set eyes on a corridor that had him wondering if it led to the office of the Minster for Magic when the form was handed back to him. Kaiser blinked, took the clipboard, and offered the woman a smile. "Thank you," he said politely, nodded at that last part, and took a cautionary step back from the desk to give himself some space even though he didn't really need to.

Just like the last two times, he didn't disapparate immediately, and instead took a moment or two to really make sure he was focused on where he was going - the atrium, which he had passed through on his way into the ministry today, and therefore at least had a vague idea about his Destination™. With that in mind, Kaiser screwed his eyes shut - really, it was a habit he needed to unlearn - put all his Determination™ into getting down to the Atrium, held onto his wand, and turned on the spot. With... Deliberation™? Sure.

With a POP, he disappeared from sight.

Apparition class

Tina reappeared with a quiet pop. It wasn't until she'd checked herself and found no signs of splinching that she got a good look at her surroundings. She'd appeared about halfway between the front desk and the lifts but very much in the lobby. Okay, so she was in a lobby, but was this the level 1 lobby? Merlin, she hoped it was! How discouraging would it be to apparate successfully only to find she was in the wrong place?!

Form in hand, she approached the front desk. Please tell me this is the correct floor, she thought frantically. "Excuse me, is this the level one lobby?" she asked the woman at the desk.

January wasn't sure how many apparition exam-takers she would have pop in to get their form signed, so each new one was a pleasant surprise for her. She smiled at the girl warmly to give her an idea that she was in the right place - she had looked a bit confused.

"Yes, it is. All in one piece?" she asked after giving her a good once-over, holding her hand out for the form so she could sign it. She wasn't screaming in pain or bleeding, so chances were that she was successful.

Daisy held onto her form and smiled at the redhaired woman. "Thank you for signing this form," she said before she focused her mind on the last destination which was the golden gates which were located at the atrium. Daisy gripped her wand, spun on the spot and disapparated.

Tina breathed a quiet sigh of relief when the woman at the front desk confirmed she was in the right lobby. How about that? Not too bad for someone who'd never set foot in the Ministry (at least not the British one) before today! She couldn't help but feel more than a little proud of herself. She just apparated to a place she'd never been before, and she didn't get splinched! Now she just had one more section of the practical test left.

"Yes, ma'am," she replied, beaming as she placed her form in the woman's awaiting hand. As she waited for the signature she needed, she was already thinking ahead to the next task. Apparating to the gates would take her one step closer to getting her license!

Once the other girl had popped away, January's attention stayed with the newcomer. She took the form, placed it on the counter and once again signed her swirly signature with a blue inked pen.

"Here you go," the redhead said, handing the signed form back. "One more stop. Good luck." She gave the girl a warm smile and waited for her to go. Anyone else?

Tina nodded politely. "Thank you," she replied, taking her form back as the red-haired woman handed it to her. She caught a brief glimpse of the signature, and to her surprise, she recognized the name. When she apparated to this floor, she hadn't expected she'd cross paths with her father figure's boss, let alone get her form signed by that very person! What were the odds of that?! Wait until M. Marchand heard she ran into his boss today! She thought about popping into the daycare center - not literally, of course! Wouldn't want to scare the little kids! - later to tell him, but first, she had to finish her apparition test.

Okay, two tasks down, one to go. Tina could do this! She felt a lot more confident about apparating to the golden gates than she had apparating to the lobby. At least this time, she actually knew where she was going. She'd passed through those very gates on her way to today's apparition test, so the image was fresh in her mind. She took a quick moment to center her focus, concentrating as hard as she could on the image of the golden gates. When she had a clear visual, she turned on the spot, wand in hand, and disappeared with a faint POP!

Stepping out the lifts for the FIRST TIME, Delyth couldn’t help but inhale deeply, her breakfast doing its best to come back up. Luckily for her, if it did decide to make an appearance, she could just dart into the toilets just to her right. Unsure if she should check in or not, she made her way slowly over to the reception desk, one hand clutching her chequered bag closely, the other tugging at her turtleneck jumper.

God was it warm in here.

Stepping off the lift ready to start the day, she had a list of things already on her docket to get done. Not paying any attention to who/what was in front of her, since her face of buried in a piece of parchment with her first days list of needed work to be done, Alba literally bumped right into the person in front of her. "Oh my goodness" Alba cried out looking at who/what she ran into. Upon seeing it was person she grew red. "I'm so sorry, please excuse me, I wasn't watching where I was going." Alba took a closer look, she knew her!! They had made at the dance! They had dance together.... now what was her name again ....... something with a 'P' right .... no D ... it definitely started with D....

And just like that, she’d somehow managed to get in the way of someone within the first 10 minutes of being at the ministry. "No, no, it’s not your fault! I was just…a little unsure” her face getting redder and redder as recognition washed over her. She knew the woman! Heaven forbid what she must of thought of the blonde now as she stood there like a baby deer on ice, all awkward and fragile. “It’s okay, you’re not hurt, are you? Honestly, I’m surprised I didn’t fall over you when we danced at the celebration” waving off the apologies of the other woman now, after all, no one was hurt. Sensing that she didn’t quite remember her name, she continued “You’ll have to forgive me but I can’t quite remember your name. I’m Delyth” holding her hand out now with a friendly smile. In truth, she was very good with names. Her memory was one of the few things she prided herself on but Alba didn’t need to know that

It wasn’t unusual for purple paper airplanes to flitter back and forth across the lobby. Being a Reception Area, the air was often peppered with the purple things. Most landed on the Reception Desk, notes informing the Receptionist of people coming and going amidst other request for supplies and outgoing mail requests. Other memos flew past the desk to their destinations or flew to the lifts to on their way to other levels of the Ministry. It was such a normal sight that Ministry employees often ignored the little purple papers as they flittered about and the papers usually ignored the employees.

Three of the paper airplanes flew over the heads of the two employees below (Love-for-HP / GD2204) on their way like usual.

Only after those three memos passed by, there were no airplane memos for an unusually odd length of time. Funny, why did the mail stop? Was it a national holiday?

And then a lift arrived. The doors opened with a ding and out poured a small mountain of purple memos. The paper airplanes tumbled and slid across the floor. Quick! Better gather them all up before the lift gates crushed them beyond repair.

Delyth!! That's what it was jeepers Alba needed some help with names, she was so bad at them. "Delyth, that's right!! Please forgive me, I'm Alba" She added. "No harm, no foul." She said too, good they were both okay. "I'm a little nervous for the day..." She added smiling up at the purple airplanes... or lack there of. "Funny .. no mail for a bit." She added, and then heard what sounded like a crash and then airplanes flying everywher! "Merlin's Beard!" Alba cried and started reaching for everything in site. "Delyth can you hep me!" She screeched.

Unsure of exactly what to do, the newly appointed ministry worker just looked at Alba for a moment, waiting for some sort of advice or instruction, unsure of exactly what to do. Alba couldn't help but laugh at how hysterical these the newcomers look. Here they were on their first day, running into each other, and now running around like chickens to save all the memos. "Thank you!' She half shouted at Delyth for her help.

Noticed one fly near the lift again, Alba made a diving catch to grab it before it could flutter away and get loss. Two things happen simultaneously.. 1. Alba crashed into the lift gates causing them to bend and dent slightly ... and 2. The airplane slid underneath the lift and was lost.

Embarrassed beyond anything else ... she turned toward Delyth. "Dear Merlin ... what have I done!" Alba was certain she would be fired .... she had made a mess and destroyed the lift all on her first day ... she was going to be fired for sure.

On her knees now, Delyth frantically picked up plane after plane and stuffed them in a pile under one of her knees to stop them from fluttering away. “It’s really no problem at all. I’m just glad I could help…” her sentence cut off now as a loud thud filled the waiting room. “Are you okay?” she gasped, as she looked over and spotted Alba in a heap next to the lift gates. Her first day might not have been ideal but she most certainly had not damaged Ministry property. Yet. There was still time.

Grabbing her bag, she quickly shoved the letters she’d caught into it to stop them from flying away then moved a little closer to Alba to inspect the damage. “It’s okay, It’s okay. The damage shouldn’t be a problem. The letter though…that might be” Pulling out her wand now, she pointed it towards the dented gate before looking around and quietly whispering “Reparo” which would hopefully at least fix the superficial damage. “I wonder what caused all of this to happen” she mused, her eyes now drawn back to the mess around them. “Do you think maybe we should send our own message to tell someone what happened?”

Pulling herself together and rubbing her shoulder a bit for comfort. She turned back toward Delyth. "Thanks. Hopefully there isn't something more serious wrong with the lift." She added ... hoping she was just imagine the grinding sound it was making. "Might be best to let the Department head know at least. Not sure what caused the blockage of delivery in the first place." She added. Seeing that they collected the majority of the letters. "Probally should let her know about the missing ones to." Alba indicated to the lift and the at least one memo that went under.

Indeed informing someone about the small mountain of memos would probably be a grand idea. But just who and how should you contact them? Clearly sending an interdepartmental memo wouldn’t be a good idea. It was bound to end up lost among its brothers and sisters on the floor. Perhaps the safest, and swiftest way was to hurry on over to maintenance.

Whatever you decide to do, you should do it soon. Those lift doors were only going to stay open so long and you wouldn't want to get squished by the closing lift doors. Perhaps a summoning charm would do the trick?

Delyth really was at a loss for what to do here. Sure, she could go and try to find someone to help their situation but who? She literally had only met 3 people here at the ministry. Where was her introduction to her fellow workers? Wasn’t she supposed to be shown around on her first day? “Should we maybe send for someone send for someone from maintenance to sort the lift out? Or maybe go find them ourselves? I mean, I don’t want to leave this here. It’s a mess”, her eyes now on the scene that was in front of them.

Well, one thing was for certain, they’d need to gather all of these letters before they do anything. With her wand still in her hand, she gave it a quick flick in an attempt to summon all of the letters out of the lift towards her and into a nice neat pile on the floor in front of her.

Still rubbing her shoulder slightly from the collision with the lifts she looked back over at Delyth as all the letters flew into a perfect pile. "Should we divide on conquer, one to go maintenance, one to our department head? Or would it be easier to the tell the story together to both?" Alba adding thinking that both department heads needed to know what in the world was going on with both the lifts and the letter. Alba was only slightly concerned how it would look that both NEW employees were involved in this ... even though they certainly didn't cause the letter jam ... the lift jam ... well that was a different story.

"I'm fine either way really ... but we should get moving before it does it again." Alba didn't want to be here if another round of letters exploded from any further lifts making their way there.
