Default Pub Seating

Here at the Leaky Cauldron things can get pretty busy, and, for Phro, this is exactly the case. For this purpose, she kept he changes made by Louisa so that customers may come to the counter to place their orders, which keeps the chaos down and keeps things less hectic for the busy workers and their customers.

In the center of the room sits the baby of the Leaky Cauldron - baby grand piano that is. It is not unusual to enter the Leaky Cauldron and see costumers playing away at the piano. However, this piano is widely special, even for the Wizarding World. Years ago, Ryoma Shiradou, the former owner, built it by hand and therefore as one plays each key the ivory gives off a little puff of colored smoke that rises up into the air and form shapes that begin to tell a story to the music.

Off to the side of the room, a cozy fireplace and seating area can be found for those looking to relax a bit before heading off to the busy shops of Diagon Alley. At various times throughout the day, Phro will come by and give Tarot card readings.

OOC: The piano is free for all to use so have fun with that and enjoy yourself. Also, please remember that the shopkeeper does NOT take orders at the tables. Due to the Leaky Cauldron being unmanned at the moment, simply assume that your character placed their order at the Bar and Service Counter.

And a very IMPORTANT warning. Please please PLEASE make sure you have read all SS rules - especially those involving drinking. There will be a zero tolerance policy in regards to this rule.

He wasn't far off though, because when one happens to be in the zone, they do tend to spew out words in high volumes. Memories of their youth. Kat would drink to that. "No, I came alone. Simply wanted a drink before running some errands." The adult life isn't so glamourous to talk about. Harsh realities.

Kat nodded quietly. Empathy was all she could have right now, considering she and her family weren't heavily affected. She was grateful for that, but that didn't make the entire first half of the year any better for those who lost loved ones. "I hope your family's doing well," she said, remembering Theodore was a muggleborn himself.

"Oh," she clicked her tongue just thinking about it. The job hunting part was certainly the worst phase of the adult life. Kat figured this might be the best time maybe offer him help or whatever, but Theodore made it easier for her by mentioning the ministry. "That's funny, I work for the ministry." Cue a little sip of her glass there. "You should still give it a go. I like to think there's a job opening in the ministry for...quite literally anything and anyone." The ministry could probably hire an atrium entertainer if they wanted, their job listing descriptions were that vast.
Heheh, "True, true." He sighed during his smile. "Man, can you believe how many years ago we were teammates together." Theodore hadn't played Quidditch for YEARS, particularly since retiring from the Wigtown Wanderers. It was actually super, duper sad, especially that he worried he wouldn't even know how to mount a broom anymore. Hopefully it was like riding a bike, you never forget. Theodore nodded, quietly pleased that she wasn't about to shoot off and meet someone else. "Yeah, same here, really." Lieeeeees. "Don't let me keep you if you need to rush off." To do those errands.

"Yeah, family's good, thanks. Been pretty under the radar, to be honest." Thankfully. Now to just get back ON the radar. Theodore suddenly felt like he was dumb for having personal problems, since there were many people who had been having a much worse time than him. He wasn't usually an empathetic person, but this year he kinda had to be.

Theodore raised his brows a little, suddenly much more comfortable talking about his career prospects knowing that Kat already worked there. "You think?" He smiled a little at the hope offering. "I'll, uh, maybe enquire about it, then." He nodded, already feeling much brighter. "How long you been there, then?" And what department?!?

As much as Kat was dreading it, she had expected the conversation to eventually reach this point. One doesn't realise how much time has passed until they actually talk about the past. "And prefects, how could you forget that too?" The blond teased. When she thought back then that handling both quidditch and being a student leader was the peak of her responsibilities, Kat would laugh at her younger self now. Those were...nothing much compared to being an adult. Ah well. "Not in a hurry. You're sending me away too quickly." She couldn't help but grin.

Honestly, being under the radar was probably for the best, when the wizarding world was in shambles in the past year. "Well then, I have no other words to say, other than...welcome...back...?" That's a thing, right? "Glad to see you again too." Kat didn't see a lot of their former school friends anyway, so this was nice.

"I would say I know, but then you might use my words against me if I'm wrong," Kat joked. "But it seems like it. There's a place for whoever wants one." The ministry could use some more people, perhaps. She wasn't sure how many employees would've stayed after the stunt that the Neo Alliance pulled, anyway. To Theodore's question, however, Kat actually laughed a little. "I've been with the Environmental Protection department for a little over ten years now. Merlin, my age is showing." She didn't realise it's been that long until she had to do the math.

"Why hello there. I saw you from across the room, and thought I would introduce myself." Making his way past the other patrons, minding his cane, and the old guitar strapped to his back, Damian approached her. "Who would leave a beautiful thing like you standing all alone in the middle of the room? Mind if I pull up a seat?"

Carefully setting down his cane and guitar, Damian put most of his weight on his left leg while he pulled out the bench. Taking a seat in front of her, the young man scooted in closer, removing his glasses, so he could look at her with his blue eyes unobstructed. She really was beautiful. "Let's take things slow. It's been a while...since I played the piano."

Placing his fingers on the keys of the baby grand piano, Damian breathed in deeply, nearly tasting the magic in the air around her. Playing a couple stray notes to get a feel for it, he moved to an old song he knew from a film. Memories of Green A haunting tune of romance filled the pub, while colored smoke played out a story of two star crossed lovers finding each other in a bleak, uncaring world of tall buildings and bright lights.

Wow, prefects. Theodore had actually forgotten that they were prefects together. It seemed crazy, looking back, that he was ever given that role. He wasn't exactly the brightest of students. "Jeeez... prefects, we did pretty well, didn't we?" Theodore smiled. He wished he could go back to those days, days he completely took for granted at the time. He wished he could see his friends every day like he used to, not every few months, or even years. It was really sad. "Sorry... sorry." The man chuckled. "Definitely not sending you away. It's..." He thought about stopping his sentence, "... it's made my day bumping into you, Hudson." She had no idea.

Welcome back. Theodore gave a toothy grin this time. "Hah, thanks." He lifted up his empty cup to offer a cheers. "So, do you see much of anyone else from school?" He was really interested to know who, and what they were all up to.

"Fair enough." Theodore nodded. Basically, don't get your hopes up. Still, he felt a bit more confidence in trying since speaking to Kat. His eyes widened. "Ten years? Aren't you bored yet?" Probably an immature question, but Theodore was still an annoying little kid at heart. "Nah, well done, Kat. Sounds like you're doing well for yourself." He nodded, seriously.

Default all the feels - sorry for the tardiness, mates <3
Slytherindor ♛ The Crazytastic Besties ♛ Shan Watson ♛

The embrace with Ethan was one that told a story of brotherhood, loss, and support. Simon had been through it all for his Holmes and vice versa. So he gave Ethan a firm squeeze. He was glad that he hadn't lost Ethan that day... Or Zander... Merlin. "Good to see you. Give my love to Josie and the babe, yeah?" he said with a nod. He knew that it would only be a matter of time before there would be another family dinner between the Mordaunts and Holdens. It might as well become tradition. At this point, Simon wondered if Ethan's child would be the only child he'd allow his daughter to date. Well that is if Bianca and he had a daughter. They were certainly trying for more kids but one couldn't really control what you got. Regardless of the babe's sex, it would be very much loved. But yes Simon had thought about setting up his own children with his friend's children but he had never revealed that thought to anyone else at this point in time. So he was going to keep fairly quiet on this ... for now.

He chuckled at Zander's comment about the parent support group. "Yeah. Fam all good? Kids still as active as ever?" He wondered if his own son, Artie, would be that active. Knowing his mother and he, the boy probably would be quiet but very intelligent... He was a very well behaved baby. Slept through the night... mostly. And didn't fuss at all. He counted his lucky stars because his sister had gleefully told him that the next child may not be so angelic.

Simon offered a Zander a genuine grin. Merlin. He had forgotten how easy it was to smile around his fellow comic book lover and his Holmes. The stars had aligned so nicely today but he, of course, didn't believe in Divination especially when it was all pink. The thoughts about the pink made him feel rather down momentarily. He had heard the news about their dear Divination Professor who had passed during the battle fighting nobly. Somber thoughts filled his head and dampened his smile. But a small voice that sounded very much like the dear Professor's quickly berated him for not being happy. Cassie would have wanted them to be happy of course! So he forced a smile. "Me too...." he nodded when Zander mentioned flashbacks. Ah... Caleb Newell.... That was... Simon had been on the same field when he watched his friend and brother fall. It had been bizarre. The man had just crumpled like a piece of paper or aluminium foil. It just felt so surreal to him. He... would have to pay a visit to Sophie... He wondered how she was doing. He hadn't been particularly close to Sophie - he had been closer to Caleb and Grayson but... he imagined this all must have been rather awful for Sophie Newell. and a thought popped into his head that he couldn't quite resist. "Still believe that Romanos is a Cold One?"

Okay, low cheeky blow- he knew that all too well. But could you blame him for not resisting that one? Ahhhhhh that would be a negative...

And Ethan had mentioned drinks which Simon Holden was surprisingly for a round of pints of beer. "What's your poison today? My first shout today. I just got promoted."

"And we both are here now," he smiled with a friendly hand to the other man's shoulder. "That is the important thing." Victor still had things he wanted to address with Daichi, but this was enough for now. Until they had their chips, that is.

His new friend would come to know that these dabblings came from Victor being very restless and unwilling to settle. While he may have extensive knowledge, he would not consider himself a true expert in all of them. He knew enough wandlore to secure a temporary assistant role in Ollivanders, though that came through a Stemp House connection as well, and languages had always been an interest to him so Mermish had come naturally with his interest in all things aquatic. Plus it came in handy for travel arrangements. But such discussion was for neither here nor there, especially in light of that particular question. "Having a family," he replied easily, the pride in his chest rising up higher and adding a twinkle to his eyes.

Relaxing into his seat a bit more, Victor picked up a crisp and then pulled a little bottle of Tabasco from his pocket to drip on to it before popping it into his mouth. He would absolutely protest the notion of there not being much to tell, everyone had a story worth telling, but instead he remained quiet and offered Daichi his undivided attention. "I do not know much about Hogwarts myself, save for what I hear from my students and girlfriend. I do have several students who were sorted into Slytherin and from what I can tell it is a very ambitious house, perhaps the sort of house to draw those in who have high expectations unto themselves and may judge themselves for not being more." Something that seemed very much echoed right now in Daichi's words. "I would not judge your past self too harshly. It is hard for a teenager to lead themselves let alone an entire student body. Though true not all paths are meant for us, it is all a part of the journey." He paused a moment to take a sip from his drink. "I myself...did not finish school...not in the traditional sense. I attended Ilvermorny as a Thunderbird and I suppose you could argue I finished as I sat my exams, but I left as soon as I had and lead the life of a lone vagabond for about five years before settling down anywhere long term." Higher education was even muddier. His stay and attempt to ground himself somewhere even more so.

That twinkle in Victor's eyes brightened at the mention of adoption. It was something Victor yearned to do and yet could not bring himself to do for fears so deeply rooted in himself he was certain he may never untangle. Minerva...would make for a great mother and it would love to give that to her somehow. There was a subconscious wince at the mention of Daichi's partner leaving father and son, something that stung Victor's memory greatly, but quickly suppressed the memory of those tears. "What is it like, being a father?" he found himself asking despite the more natural progression of conversation being to focus on the Neo Alliance and the fact that Daichi had survived that ordeal. "How is he coping with all of this?"
Ever since he was a child he had found it difficult to talk about hardships that occurred in life. Even when he knew that he had people around him who would listen. His coping method was burying it deep down and plant flowers over it until it became invisible . Yet he knew from experience that it would come back to haunt him one day and that he was only delaying the inevitable.

It was therefore that he was glad that someone from the battle had reached out to talk. He knew that he would never had done that even though he knew he had to have someone to talk to.

The hand on his shoulder was comforting and Victor’s words made him realize that they had been very lucky indeed. It was at this moment that he wanted to thank him but he couldn’t. Not yet anyway.

While he admittedly had been a bit skeptical about Victor claiming to be a teacher, it became apparent to him that he truly was one after listening to him talk. It was his way of speaking that gave it away really.

Still to this day, Daichi had a thought that the Sorting Hat had not sorted him in to the right House but as Victor gave his interpretation of what he thought the House symbolized he had to stop and think for a moment. And he realized that he had hit the nail on the head when it came to him. That was kind of scary, they only had just met. Or maybe this was true for most Slytherins?

Although he appreciated his words on not judging himself on his past, it wasn’t his failed leadership that tucked at him but guilt. In his final year as leader he had been, although unintended, part of a cause that made a staff member lose his soul. As a student leader at the time he felt like he should have noticed the odd changes with some of the other students and eventually himself but he never noticed until he had been cured. It had been his job to help protect the school and instead he had caused harm. But he didn’t know Victor that well yet so he stayed quiet once more , only offering a small smile and a nod before reaching for the chips again to eat a few.

while he chewed on the food, he listened as Victor spoke of his own school time and he found it interesting that he had studied at Ilvermorny. ”We’re you born in America?” he asked. The most obvious answer would be yes but he could have been a transfer student. Him quitting school after taking his exams was a bit of a shock to him at first because how could someone leave their education like that but he guessed that it was not for everyone. At least he had not been foolish enough to drop out before taking his exams. ”Where did you travel to? Around the world?” His life certainly sounded far more interesting. He always wanted to travel to far away countries himself but he never had been able to.

As the topic came to his son, Daichi had to lean back in his seat and let out a very heavy sigh. ”It’s exhausting” he answered truthfully. ”But if i could turn back time i would have adopted him again. He’s a good kid.” a smile before he leaned forward to place his elbows on the table and frowned. ”He went straight to work after recovering from his wounds during the battle. I think it’s his way of coping with it”

”Listen there is something i need to get off my chest” he said, finding this the perfect timing to mention this. ”I wanted to thank you. If you had not showed up at that time”…. a cold shiver ran through him as he thought of his colleague dying next to him. He still had nightmares about that scene. ”I don’t remember much except for the worst imaginable pain i have ever felt in my entire life….i think i blacked out at some point” he had never realized that it had been Victor who had casted a silent stunning spell on him and till this day he still thought that he had fainted from exhaustion back then. ”But i do remember you trying to get me to safety” and obviously he had succeeded otherwise he would not have been here right now. ”I owe you my life”

And so, yes, ethan may be zombie-ing his way around, but that was not an excuse not to see his old pals...especially that the war was over. "how's sophie? The kids? You?" he can tell that a lot has gone down, and he cannot wait to hear more.

It wasn't long when simon showed up. Ah...the good old watson to his holmes. Unbeknownst to zander, ethan and simon had been in undercover missions the past years, so they have been seeing each other more often than most of their other friends. Simon was received with a tight hug-- a "thanks again, mate" kind of embrace.

"well we wouldn't want you passing out from the flashbacks, z." at the mention of hogwarts, he had an inkling as to where their conversation might go. There was an annoying dragging weight whenever the school's name was brought up. It used to be a fun place, despite the dangers, but the recent happenings surprised them all. He would know since he's currently employed with the icw, and as an international task force agent, he was there battling the uprising alongside his family and friends.

And he's very well aware of what happened to caleb newell. Caleb was a very good friend, of which he had fond memories with, alongside simon, cutty, and grayson back in school and the boy talks that went down in their dorm. To see him among the dead, alongside professor hadley, it broke ethan's heart. They were, after all, an extension of his family. Hogwarts was home.

"come on lads we don't have all day," he said taking his seat at the table. "let this support session begin." drinks...they need drinks, and lots of it please.

"Nah, you wear it well, mate. Honestly." How Ethan managed to pull off those bloodshot eyes was a real mystery. "I looked like a walking zombie for the first two years, so I'd say you're trajectory is way better off." He was mostly exaggerating. Sort of. At least January had granted him paternity leave. What he would have done without it would have surely been something of a nightmare.

The smiles were so easy around his old friends and Zander found himself easily slipping back into the same comfort he'd felt with them at age 13. A lot had changed since then, but apparently, the goofy nicknames had stuck. "Sophie's great, active as ever. Giving the kids a run for their money," he laughed in a good natured sort of way. "I'm worried about Mia though, I thought she'd phase through the jealousy quickly, but it's been three years and she still can't seem to get along with her little brother." If they had any advice, Zander Adair was all ears. "How's Artie?" he asked in return, still wearing a smile he couldn't seem to shake. "And B? Is she well?"

As for Professor Romanos, Simon received a deadpan for that one. "Don't think I ever cracked that one, you and Ethan ought to look into it. Another mystery case to add to the queue." He was teasing right back, of course. They were the best detectives Hogwarts ever had. Or, well, they were loads better than Zander ever was (but that didn't take too much, did it?).

As for drinks and celebrations? "AY, that's the kind of news I like to hear, buddy," he gave Simon a mighty clap on the back. "First round's on me!" He didn't wait for an answer before turning to go order.

"You know I will, mate." Ethan squeezed on Simon's shoulder as another way of saying 'thank you' again. It just wasn't his presence when he needed him most, but Simon readily gave his love and support for them as well. He would know what it's like to get out of one's way just to help a friend in need, and Ethan knew he'd asked a lot from Simon when he just started a family himself.

As he sat with his brothers, Ethan nodded and chuckled at Zander as he can clearly picture the poor bloke zombie-ing around the place, looking lost. "I suppose it's different for all of us. I mean, Josie and I... well, we've been waiting for this child for a while now." Ethan's grin grew wider feeling all sorts of happy at the moment. They were pretty late in the parenting department, but he was glad that they were blessed with a child nonetheless. Liam was more than a blessing, not just to the newly-minted parents, but to their families and friends as well. The birth of their son was met with so much excitement and love... and truck-loads of nappies and care packages for them. "Trust me, Josie and I are exhausted, but we're both over the moon, and that's what you're seeing now." Especially if Zander knew what it took for them to finally have their own child. But that was the thing, Zander had been clueless all these years, and Ethan would want for his good friend to know what transpired all those years. He just wasn't sure how much Zander knew about Josie and her history.

Now, about this jealousy thing between siblings, Ethan had no clue on how to address that. He was an only child, and Liam is currently an only child, so sharing the attention with a sibling was an alien concept to him. However, over the course of babysitting Mordred's kids, he'd learned a thing or two from his sage cousin. "Mia had your full attention for three years, so yes... I suppose jealousy is an acceptable reaction. But, maybe you can spend more time with her? Just you and your daughter to make the bond stronger, so you know... she can establish within herself that no matter what, you have her back and that she'll always be seen and cared for." Ethan shrugged at his fellow blond bro with a grin. "Mordred had plenty of that jealousy issue between his twins and their youngest, so I'm confident that that is a good advice." And perhaps it's an advice he'd follow once they get another bun in the oven.

Ethan noticed Simon's dampened smile, and he knew that flashbacks of the war took away some of his happy disposition from earlier. In his profession, deaths were a regular agenda, but it was easy for him to get over it over time since he's learned to detach his emotions from doing secret service operations. But... the war was altogether different. The attack on their community was far disturbing, and it took away lifelong friends-- friends who took a stand to ensure that the uprising will not win, and give them all a chance at a new day. At the mention of Zander's staunch belief of Romanos' being a cold one, Ethan could not help but laugh and do a full-on facepalm. He would've loved to take on the challenge, but knowing that she already have kids and are perfectly normal, the blond agent had to laugh it off.

"Thanks, mate! Next round's on me." While Zander took care of their drinks, Ethan turned to Simon and rested his arm around his best friend. "Well deserved promotion, Mr. Holden." and a timely one at that, given that he's just got a babe of his own. The former Slytherin took a glance at Zander's back and then back to Simon retracting his arm. "Josie and I are heading to France tomorrow. She's meeting her family for the first time, and she has no idea. She thinks it's just a holiday with Liam." Ethan closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I know it's too late to back out now, but, do you think it's a good idea?"

Zander better head back quickly because he's about to miss some important stuff.

"I know it's too late to back out now, but, do you think it's a good idea?"

Zander better head back quickly because he's about to miss some important stuff.

Simon smiled as he watched Zander regale then a tale of the joys & perils of fatherhood. It felt so natural just coming back together and he smiled through the pain of the absence of a fellow comrade. He chuckled imagining Sophie as active as ever. That didn't surprise Simon one bit. "As expected from Soph. Always knew that you two would be good at parenting," nodded Simon. He then raised his eyebrows at the mention of Mia who was bad at sharing. "Oh? Children are children... Maybe when she goes off to school she'll learn but then again.... there was Agatha Hapagood in our year and she was not good at sharing." Oh Agatha... The first girl that Simon had EVER had a crush on and had snogged. She was... complicated. He still hadn't figured her out but he supposed it was a good thing that the two hadn't ended up together. B was much better suited for him. She was less.... harmful for starters. Ahem. "But as Ethan said...it makes sense for Mia to have jealous tendencies after having all your attention to herself for several years. I think spending time together would be good." Solid advice, Ethan.

Simon hadn't pegged himself to be a father and had his doubts about whether or not he could be a good father. His own father had been excellent. With his mother's memory struggles and illness, his father had to be the one to pick up the role of both mother and father and help guide three children through it. Marcus, of course, had his rough patches but he had turned out alright. The two didn't get along that well. Simon was much closer to his younger Gryffindor sister, Vi Salander. "Artie is a saint. Doesn't fuss, sleeps through the night mostly, and just is happy? I can't complain." He chuckled lowly. "B and I must have done something right in a prior life to have karma bless us like this. If B and I have another child, I'm sure he or she won't end up like that." Little horror for sure.

He thoroughly savoured Zander's reaction to the Romanos suggestion. Merlin. Simon wished he had a camera right now to capture such a deadpan facial expression completely. The reaction tickled him pink and he tried his best to hold his laugh but in the end - couldn't resist chuckling. "No correlation. I'm sure. I still have my suspicions around Domimgo? The Arithmancy Professor who tried to bribe the class with food. Jury's still out on that one." Though as they were joking about old conspiracy theories... some of the Professors ones hit hard after the events of Hogwarts this past year.... Beauxbatons hadn't been in better shape either. "That being said all joking aside... if you do have leads, let me know. My office is covered in a mind map diagram." Lots of red string and push pins. Very professional for a detective. It did throw his students through a loop when they'd come in asking questions about Ancient Runes to find that. Heh. Always made for good conversation.

Simon couldn't protest and just frowned as Zander got up to go purchase the beverages. "Thanks mate!" shouted Simon to Zander who had already darted away. Now it was just Holmes and Watson together again. He turned to Ethan. "Well then I'll get the third round or food," nodded Simon.

His eyebrows raised when Ethan began speaking about the trip to France and introducing the family to Josie's family. Simon had his... thoughts and worries on this subject certainly. After all Simon had done the initial digging on Josie's family and had many concerns over the intriguing characters and data that he found on them. "I think it is promising but I certainly have my reservations over her family and their... interesting history. I think you may need back up. Please tell me that I can stay at least a few paces near you just in case..." He didn't want Ethan, Josie, or Liam to go in there without back up.

”I owe you my life”
There was a certain irony to those thoughts that plagued Daichi's mind, one that you could compare to the greater wizarding world and a question that many of his kids at the Stemp House had beseeched of him with wide shimmering eyes: why hadn't anyone noticed until it was too late? Why did anyone protect them sooner? The sad reality was that this was another instance of history repeating itself. Victor himself had been tipped off to a few things, not because of any association with the Order of the Phoenix or any other group...but because of his interpersonal relationships. Namely Minerva who spoke so highly of this Airey Flamsteed, almost like another father figure, and of her friend and nephew to the man - a gentleman by the name of Andrei Romanos who Victor had only had the pleasure of meeting a handful of times. Both of them had spoken to something seeming unfamiliar about the man...and then there had been the graffiti in Diagon Alley...and the mass break out of Azkaban. This Neo Alliance had only revealed themselves when they were absolutely certain that they had the upper hand. They had the Ministry. They had Hogwarts. They had placed their pieces overseas.

It was truly terrible, but perhaps the true tragedy was that history continued to repeat itself. There was no single finger to point at anyone, though he too shoveled this burden himself. Feeling as though he should have done more. Sooner...

"No," he replied with a shake of his head once his thoughts were drawn back to his new friend. "Spain, but I was abandoned at a young age, raised in orphanages and eventually made my way to America where I settled for a time for schooling." he chuckled and rubbed his scruffy beard a bit. "I sometimes think the list of where I haven't been would be the easier list...but I would say I spent the majority of my time in South America, Peru and Brazil." His voice softened a bit as he thought about...her. He hoped she was well. It had been some time since their last correspondence... "When I say I was consumed by wonderlust for the majority of my twenties...it is no exaggeration. It is something I encourage my students to do, get out of the country. It's amazing what you can learn of the world and of yourself when you do." He regretted none of his time hopping from place to place, it all had lead him to where he was now and...he was happy with where he had landed.

Nodding as Daichi went on to explain parenting, Victor felt a familiar ache in his chest. Having grown up without those parental influences and only finding them later in life through Lorelai, Adam, and Mr. Darling...Victor felt himself incredibly unequipped to step into that role. There was also a warped sense of survivor guilt involved in all that, one that he was still refusing to unpack at this time...though he knew that he could not avoid all that forever. "Adoption is a beautiful gift. A very righteous act. I am glad to hear that the process worked out for you and your son." He could remember all the times he had wished someone would adopt him...but then how hard he worked to sabotage any chance he had and made sure that he was never adopted.

Then conversation took a turn that he had not expected, though he had wondered when thing would come back to to the battle and what happened there. Victor felt his chest swell while the thump of his heart ached. He had been acting on pure adrenaline, hardly registering the danger he himself was in and focusing externally. "I...thank you," he smiled gently while reaching across the table and setting another hand on Daichi's shoulder. "I..." he paused, chuckling under his breath as he gave the other man's shoulder a squeeze and then removed his hand to run through his hair. "...actually wanted to apologize for some of the methodology I administered in the moment. Particularly the Stunning Spell I administered at close range. I was concerned their may be repercussions to that...but it seems there isn't and for that I am relieved. I was assisted with carrying you into the Great Hall..." ...along with the body of a woman. "I regret that I did not catch their names."

So he could not be sure that they too survived or were among the casualties.

Truly, them being prefects together felt like it was a whole lifetime ago. Kat couldn't help but laugh and widen her eyes a little. "Didn't we? It almost sounds like you were doubting. We absolutely did pretty well," the blond said, mustering some pride from their younger years. Slytherin House would've been a mess and a half if it weren't for them, she liked to believe. But Theo had to take a bit of an emotional turn there, didn't he? Kat allowed herself to put her sass aside to let them revel in the nostalgia that came with this reunion. "Well, bumping into you has been a welcomed plot twist," she replied. "I'll leave you my address later, if you'd like. Keep in touch. Write to hang out. Don't be a stranger." The former Slytherin did like to receive letters from people who didn't require ministry work from her, too.

Kat raised her wine glass too, though her drink certainly wasn't empty like his. "Do you want another one?" She had to ask. As for his question, she gave that a bit of thought. "Some, yes. Elise, well, she is still my best friend. Other than her, a lot of our former schoolmates work at the ministry too. Do you know Olly's my boss lady?" Kat grinned. Theo remembered Olly, right?

"I'd have left if I was bored, Kinsley," she laughed. If not bored, she would've left too if another better opportunity approached her. "I don't work a desk job, I'm an environmental ranger." Pause. "...There's a bit of paperwork, but it's not just paperwork." Kat tried to think about some of the paperwork she should be dealing with at home, but that was a worry for a later time. "But thank you. We do what we can with what's offered to us."

That was true, it did sound like he was doubting it completely. "I still can't get my head around the fact that they gave that position to me. I suppose it really reflects on the other students in Slytherin." Reflected badly, of course. Was there really no one better for the job than Theodore Kinsley? Lawl. Theodore smiled, hoping that the soppiness of their current conversation was going to go away very soon. It wasn't his strong suit. "Oh... yeah... that'd be great, actually." Hopefully this wasn't the last time he'd see Kat in a while. Even though addresses or phone numbers were exchanged, it didn't always mean that contact would be kept.

Ohhhh.... no. This was not a question he needed to be asked.

"Uhhhh... nah, I'm good." His glass was empty but he had only budgeted for one today. As sad as that sounded. Theodore nodded, trying to rack his brain as to who she was talking about. Both names rang a bell but he couldn't picture their faces at all. "Olly... Olly....?" He said aloud, trying to place her last name and hoping Kat would remind him. Full names were much easier to remember.

Theodore nodded, raising his eyebrows. Somehow, he thought ALL ministry jobs were boring desk jobs, which wasn't the best attitude to have when he was about to apply there, he supposed. Ah well, a job is a job at the end of the day. "Environmental ranger." He repeated, "Sounds like a superhero." It sounded like a pretty cool job, though. Maybe he'd check out her department when looking through the job listings.

Gabriel really hoped he wasn't late. His watch strap had broken, and while that was an easy fix, he hadn't noticed and had no idea where the watch had fallen off too. Plus, he always seemed to get caught up chatting with Missa after training. There was always so much to talk about, with the hunt for a new flat and all.

Hopefully Brody wouldn't be upset if he was, indeed late.

He looked around the Leaky as he entered, his eyes quickly adjusting to the dimmer light. He...did not see Brody. Did that mean he was early? He wasn't sure, so he claimed a table for two and pulled out his wand, flipping it around between his fingers while he thought about the day. And waited...hopefully Brody would be here soon.

Brody was, in fact, being purposely late. Why? Because he didn’t want to make it seem as though he was being overeager to be hanging out with Gabriel. That was the main reason why he hadn’t even initiated contact with the other man for any reason. Don’t get him wrong: Brody liked Gabriel. Maybe he liked him a little too much and the realisation unnerved him. Still, he was secretly delighted when Gabriel invited him out to Leaky. In any case, it had been a long day and Brody could use some relaxation.

As he arrived at the pub, his heart started to hammer. Was it from nerves? From excitement? Both? Whatever the reason, Brody was not impressed with himself. This wasn’t him; he was usually cool and collected. Maybe a deep breath would help. So he took one then scanned the place for Gabriel. And there he was.

Brody made his way over to the table. “Hey,’’ he greeted casually, slipping into the other seat. “Busy day?”

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

SPOILER!!: Victor
QUOTE=sweetpinkpixie;12496119]

[/QUOTE]

Victor seemed to be lost in his thoughts as he had been just a moment ago. Silences never bothered him (unless he was on a date ...then it was awkward) but he did wish he was able to read Victor's mind at this moment. Unfortunately, or was it fortunately? he was not a Legilimens.

When he appeared to get out of his thoughts to answer his question, Daichi picked up another piece of chips. He had not been planning to eat a lot but he didn't want to be rude and leave some behind in the basket as it had been paid for by someone else.

When Victor began to reveal that he had been raised in orphanages, Daichi's face fell. What was he supposed to say to that? 'I'm sorry' sounded so fake and he was probably weary of hearing it... He had adopted a boy from an orphanage though he had not been abandoned by his parents on purpose. The two had passed away in a car accident. He had heard that Dorian's aunt had tried to raise him but having been in massive debt and with no other family member being able to take care of him, he had been placed in an orphanage.

It became clear to him how blessed he had been to have his family on his side. He had lost his mother at a very early age. He had not even been Hogwarts age yet when a fire had broken out in his house. His father had to take on the role of both the parents and work hard to be able to provide food for him and his brother, Aedan. Luckily, his grandparents were always there and ready to help out. He stayed the majority of his childhood at his grandparent's cabin near the forests until he moved to Hogwarts and spend his teenage years there.

There were many questions that he had wanted to ask Victor. For example, 'why had they abandoned him ' but he dared not to. It was perhaps something he did not know either and the former Slytherin did not want to bring up bad memories. fortunately, he went on and began to talk about his travels and Daichi felt a bit more relaxed with this topic. "With your travels, you must have picked up some languages along the way. How many can you speak? or at least understand"

"I don't think travelling would have been for me though" he said as Victor began to talk about how he encouraged youths to travel. While he understood his point and he did agree that it would enrichen them but some people simply prefer staying close to home. But perhaps he thought this way because he had never truly travelled outside of the country before. When he had decided to live on his own he had chosen to live one city over so that he could be near his family. Travelling long distances was not for him. Great. now he sounded like a grumpy 40-year-old.

His face suddenly went bright red as Victor began to say that his decision to adopt had been a righteous act. He had never thought it if is a noble thing to do. He cleared his throat in embarrassment and reached for his drink and brought it to his mouth to take a gulp but then realized that his glass was EMPTY and his face became even redder as he set it back down. "I uh...thank you? he finally answered. "It was a long and rather tedious process" and he might have ...used a bit of 'help' aka magic to help them out. "His parents were muggles you see so he naturally got placed in a muggle orphanage but I witnessed a small piece of magic "Purely by luck, he sometimes wondered how things would have turned out if he had not looked through the window and had seen him levitate a coloured block a few inches off the floor and the boy being confused yet intrigued about it.

Apologize? The methodology he had administered at the moment? A stunning spell at close range??? one could see that Daichi's brain was trying to comprehend what this all meant and when it clicked he let out a chuckle. "I'd say you did the right thing then" he said. "I mean, if I had to choose between feeling excruciating pain and getting knocked out by a stunning spell I take the latter any day" he waved his hand. "I'm fine, no worries" he smiled, hiding the fact that he still had nightmares about a bright flash of green light and seen his colleague getting hit by the killing curse. Not to mention that he did not want his son to worry.

"Grae Fairfield" He spoke all of the sudden, his demeanour shifting as he glanced down at the table before looking up to view him in the eyes. Well, 'eye'. "That is...was... the name of the woman you were holding" yes, he remembered that. "She was my colleague at the Transportation Department in the Ministry" he did not know who had assisted him later of course. "I uh...I'm getting another drink" he said as he stood up from the seat. "Want another one of those?" he asked as he pointed at the pumpkin drink.

Caipora have mercy, he was finally here. He'd been beginning to wonder if Brody didn't want to be friends as much as he'd originally thought. It had been he who'd reached out, after all, after radio silence from the other man. Gabriel got up when he saw Brody walking over, before awkwardly sitting back down after him. "Hello," he greeted his friend. "It was, yes... usually is." His work, or training, sometimes, was either mentally or physically exhausting. Sometimes both. Especially with all the Neo-Alliance stuff and the disappearances, and re-appearances going on.

Law enforcement really kept one on their toes.

He suddenly realized they needed to order their food at the bar and...he'd just done the awkward stand, then sit again parade. Maybe they could wait a bit? Hopefully Brody was not as hungry as Gabriel was. He grinned, deciding to move past his being awkward and just go with the day. Freestyle his life, as it were, and as he usually preferred. "Are things still pretty busy in your department? You all had something to do with a dragon round-up, I heard?"

He returned her smile as she helped herself to tea like they were meeting for another study session and not lunch. "I did, but only because I don't want to have to do it when I get home." He folded up the report he had been reading and set it aside, sticking it in a pile of others and then tossing his notepad on top. "Home is for home now, I try very hard not to take work there. Especially after Radhika got her hands on a report and stuck it in Duke's water bowl." He hadn't been able to salvage the report and it had caused problems for him at work.

But now that his friend was here, it was time to stop talking shop and start catching up. "Where have you been? How have you been? I see you came out of the - well, out of everything unscathed. That's good." Every person he knew and cared about that hadn't been hurt made his getting hurt worth it. He didn't realize it but he'd been scratching at his bandages. He realized and stopped. "And have you eaten. I didn't order yet."
She only continued to beam at Conley as he spoke. Naturally, Tallulah wasn't at all surprised by his response. For as long as she knew him, she had always admired his work ethic. Though she was very pleased to hear that he was separating work from home now. It warmed her large Hufflepuff heart. And her heart only continued to grow at the sight of the man's work being put away.

"Oh, I'm sorry that happened, Con," she said sincerely when he mentioned what had happened with the one report. "But it was a good lesson from Radhika if you put a positive spin on it. A work-home balance is a good thing to have." She nodded with a smile, emphasizing that it was very important indeed.

While Tally was listening to Conley's words, she did notice him scratching at his bandages. "Would you like me to look at that quick?" she suggested before giving him answers to the questions he had asked.

"I'm still, you know, shaken by the war. Wish I had been assisting the healers under different circumstances," she told him, her smile wavering slightly as she recalled what she had witnessed that day in the Great Hall. "But, otherwise, I've been well. Haven't had time to eat just yet though. We were swamped with spell and curse reversals earlier today, and then I had a meeting with Raini before coming here." Her smile had returned, perhaps appearing a little larger than before. "There has been a recent change within the reversal agency."

Conley laughed. ”I just figured it was her way of saying ‘Papa no! No work!’” He hadn’t really been that mad, and in hindsight, it was an amusing story. And since it wasn’t just him and Sachin anymore, he had really needed to remember to take time away from work.

”Help with – oh no. No, they’re healing.” He said tugging his sleeve down over the bandages. While Tallulah wasn’t a healer anymore, the woman knew how he felt about them. AKA he avoided them at most costs and had since Elodie died. ”The Firestorm spell can do some damage,” he said trying to sound upbeat. Because the mere memory of fighting that fire still caused him nightmares. So he was grateful when she moved the conversation topics on, even if the topic itself wasn’t an easy one. It seemed that too many people weren’t talking about it and Conley couldn’t help but worry about affects of that. ”So you were at Hogwarts then?” Most of the action had been there, he knew. ”Or at the hospital? I’m sure it was an all -hands on deck sort of thing.” Merlin knew he had wished they’d had a few more hands to help with the fires in the Ministry. If they had, perhaps the Technology Center wouldn’t have been demolished.

”Oh good. What are you having? I’ll go place an order…” They could talk about her new job when he came back with food.

Maybe he had imagined it but he thought that Gabriel looked relieved. Relieved that Brody had turned up? That WAS a possibility given the fact that Brody had been silent over the past weeks and Gabriel thought that he wasn’t going to be there. This suspicion did nothing but make the DIMC Coordinator feel guilty. In an attempt to push the horrible feeling away, he studied the older man’s face. In his opinion, Gabriel looked well but he also knew that some persons were good at hiding stress.

Brody wasn’t hungry to the point where he had forgotten that they could order something. Seeing Gabriel grin made Brody relax by a hair. Seizing this latest development, he sat back in his seat and tried to be normal. “Oh, yeah. In Norway. There were a fair few that were recaptured from places like China and Sweden that had already gotten returned safely to the Welsh Reserve.’’ Talk about the chaos Rosier and his goons had left behind. “Anyway. I stayed behind. Didn’t feel as though I’d offer any help by going there.” Nope, he’d left that up to the relevant people.

“How’s training going? Caught any bad guys recently?” Because, you know… Brody preferred to hear all about Gabriel’s life.

Oh, Theodore Kinsley. On top of Kat being pleased that they ran into each other at the Leaky Cauldron of all places, she was glad he was...very much still the same Kinsley she knew from Hogwarts. Minus the age factor. It was quite comforting. "I refuse to count how many years that has been but...seriously? It's been forever and you still doubt the badge you wore for three terms?" Kat couldn't help but laugh. "That goes for you too, by the way. I require your contact information." Cue smile. She didn't have a lot of contact with everyone she knew before too, so another name to the list is always appreciated.

And did he just say no?

Hm.

"Too bad, I'd have paid. It was half an offer," Kat said. Not that the offer was going away, but she also wasn't going to force him a drink if he genuinely didn't want one, right? And it's also fine if he didn't remember all the people they went with. She couldn't remember them all either. "She's Olly Emmons-Clarke now, if that makes it easier." One of those should be Olly's name from Hogwarts, Kat figured.

A superhero, of course. Kat smiled, amused by that comparison. "Superhero for rogue plants is one way of describing. It's how I'd explain it to my kids." She didn't really want to go in detail about her tasks, because that usually bring out more questions. Endless questions. It was better to leave her small ones to their imaginations there. "Not a bad job though." She was division head too, but that's enough talking about her life. "Will I be expecting you at the ministry next year then?" Claim it, Kinsley.

Norway. That sounded...well, Gabriel didn't know how it sounded. He didn't know much about the country. "I'm glad you avoided any danger," he said with a small nod. Though he likely would have wanted to help, given the chance. He smiled slightly. "Have you ever seen a dragon up close?" At Castelobruxo they'd studied the Peruvian Vipertooth, but they hadn't been allowed close to the adults.

He shrugged at the thought of training. "It's going well," he said vaguely. "I haven't caught anyone, but the department has been very busy since the war tracking down leads on the Neo-Alliance." He paused. "I'm looking for a new flat with a friend, so that is exciting." Though Missa had been dragging her feet, which he found odd since being roommates had been her idea to begin with.

"More of my family has moved to the UK, though, so I've been seeing them more frequently." And as much as he complained about his ma, it was certainly nice to have his sister nearby.

I suppose I’ll just have to admit I was awesome, then.” Theo grinned. Maybe it was due to the fact that thinking of a time that he was doing well and comparing it to now where he - wasn’t exactly doing well, was a bit of a hard pill to swallow. But the longer he discussed their past with Kat, the more fond he felt about it. Theodore hesitated, but then pulled out an old receipt from his pocket and squiggled his moms address down. Kat wouldn’t know where it was or who else lived there. “There it all is,” he said as he finished his phone number at the end, too.

He had figured that Kat was offering a drink on her, which is why he had politely declined. How embarrassing. “Honestly, it’s fine.” Noooow, let’s drop it. Theo snapped his fingers as the memory flooded back in. “Ah yeah, I remember her. Never liked her much in school.” Not gonna lie. Hopefully in adulthood, she had become more bearable. Especially if she was a boss at the ministry… meep.

Theodore snorted, loud. Superhero of rouge plants, it sounded hilarious. “You keep those rogue plants in check, Hudson.” Nah, props to her, Theodore could probably understand that wildlife in the wizarding world was nothing like in the muggle world. Uhhhhhh… the man shrugged. “Ah, I mean, they’d have to accept me first. Isn’t there a Quidditch division? I was thinking of checking that out, to be honest.” Where ELSE would Theodore Kinsley enquire?

Man, I haven’t played Quidditch in years.” His bones were probably too old now, but it would be cool to throw a fun, non-competitive match with some old friends.

What was THAT supposed to mean?

"I'm glad you avoided any danger.”

But why was he, Brody, overthinking this so much? Gabriel obviously meant that in the FRIEND sort of way. Brody mentally sighed. If he didn’t stop with this weirdness, he was going to ruin this friendship. “Thanks!!’’ he said, forcing some cheerfulness into his voice. As a matter of fact, he injected so much in there that his response came out a little too enthusiastically and loudly. A sheepish look on his face, he hurried on with the conversation, speaking in what he hoped to be his relatively normal tone. “Yes. Once. But it’s been a while now that I think of it.” Probably in his pre teen years. “I thought it was scary up close.” Gabriel better not tell anyone about that admission. “Have you?”

Brody nodded, not really keen {as always} about talking about the Neo Alliance. The entire trauma that group had put the wizarding world through… he just wanted to forget it all. The young man could never forget the horrible ordeal his uncle had been through just to keep him and Aunt Tallie safe. “I hope your department gets them all soon.’’ The words were said coldly because...you know… he hated the group and all.

“Oh?” Brody tried to look happy and interested. Well, he WAS interested, just a bit dejected at the news. “Who’re you apartment hunting with?’’ the Coordinator asked as casually as possible. But he really was interested in Gabriel’s family. “Any one of them driving you crazy yet?’’ he asked, grinning. Family could be… chaotic, though he would know nothing about that. He only had two close living relatives, after all, and Brody loved them both with all his heart.

Sabrina was sitting at one of the tables, sipping a drink and thinking about the gap year that she had just come back from. She had decided after leaving school that she would travel the world to see new sights and experience new cultures but now she was back to reality time to find a job.

If he had said something odd, Gabriel thought nothing of it. He was just relieved that Brody still wanted to spend time with him, after...months of silence. Didn't they get along great? Why hadn't Brody wanted to get together sooner? Friendship was difficult, he supposed...and, he had to remind himself, Brody was busy with his degree and his work. And other friends, probably. Maybe Gabriel could get himself introduced to Brody's other friends. Then...he could have more friends, too.

"Scary?" he repeated, having zoned out a bit from the dragon conversation. "Yes, I suppose they are scary." If dangerous meant scary. It didn't mean that to Gabriel.

"My colleague...friend? Missa," he replied. "She wanted a roommate, and I'm not particularly attached to my flat, so..." He shrugged. It was really not a big deal. At most, having a roommate would prevent (or at least discourage) random drop-ins from his mother or sister. "My ma is a bit overbearing," he said. "Isabella is great, though. She got a job at WU Edinburgh, fancy professor office and everything." Between Isabella and Rafael, his own dropping out of university made him look like a slacker. But who'd gotten a job first, eh? He had. "Are you close with your family?"
