Default Experiences at the WWoHP

Have any of you taken a trip to Orlando and visited the HP Theme Park? Did you go on opening day? What were your favorite things about the park? Did you enjoy the rides? The food?
If you went, what else did you do at the park?
Share your experience here!

EDIT//
here's my story about my day at universal and island of adventure.
I went the opening day. Sorry if its really vague, I wrote this on one of my friends on heres wall so I figured it's be easier to copy and paste it here instead of write it all out.
(I also have pictures of the park on my page under WWOHP)

Oh gosh....my story for that day is so long! I'll sum it up the best I can.
Went to bed at 3:30 Am, woke up at 5AM, got ready and left at 6.
When we got to universal (which was like 2 minutes away from the hotel), it was now 6:40 and then the standing in line began. Woo.. Hah.
From 6:40-just about noon, we stood in the heat and humidity. The weather that time of year was all rain and barely any shine. There wasn't any wind or shade and the temp. Was 90. And I was wearing all black.
We finally got through toon town, and jarassic park, (when we left those it was around 10-11) and then when we thought it was time to go in, we had to wait another 45 minutes. Their policy for letting people in was 1 person out, one goes in. They were so packed.

So our time came, and I power walked my way inside. Oh my gosh I was so overwhelmed! The train, the three broomsticks, THE MUSIC! they had HP music playing everywhere. So the first thing I did was go in honeydukes and it was filled with people. I left and went to put my items in a cubby. The cubbies were for rides if you had important items or didn't want to carry them in general. Then we went on the dragon challenge ride. I'll never forget...they had banners for Harry, Fleur, Krum, and Cedric. And the tri-wizard music! They showed stuff from the 4th movie all they way through the line (for some reason we didn't have to wait and immediately got on..hmmm! I was so happy about that, though ) and when we finally got to where loading for the ride was, we hopped on and it was amazing!

We got off and I got some butterbeer and took fifty million photos! The butter beer was amazing. Hogshead was perfect and I got a glimpse as the 2 hour long wait I side of the three broomsticks.
After that, we went to the castle. More pictures! The detail on it and the whole structure of it was beyond amazing. We waited in line for the ride for a little over an hour. It wasn't so bad because it the line was a replica of professor sprouts green room! So it was shaded in a way.

The line moved fast and we went through the walk through of the moving portraits, Dumbledores office, ddefence against the dark arts room, sorting hat, fat lady, ect.. When we got to the ride, I was so happy! We jumped on (literally. The rides moved fast so those waiting wouldn't have to wait long) and Hermione greeted us! Then the ride begin. It was the most amazing ride I've ever rode in my life. It was 4D!
After that, we went to filch's emporium and bough stuff. Then I got pumpkin juice and we stood in line for Olivanders for an hour and a half. It was worth it! I got Hermiones wand! Then we went to the owl post, which was connected to Olivanders, and bought so much stuff like the quibbler, a few keychains, the tri-wizard cup, and some other stuff. I wanted a robe so bad (but I got it for Christmas later on, VERY nice material and well worth the price, $100)!
After that we decided 5 hours was enough...we were tired. (I didnt get to ride the flight of the hyppogriff because it was closed for matience :/)
We went back to the hotel for an hour, still didn't eat, and went back to universal! Haha! But we went to a different park instead. I loved it.

And if anyone has any questions, let me know! I've helped a few of my friends plan their vacation and if you have any questions or help, just let me know

I want to go. At first I was supposed to go when my brother graduated from USMC bootcamp, but I'll be in college then, so I can't go.
You went though? Awesome What was it like?

Yes, I have! We went on April 21, and it was so much fun! It was sooo crowded, but worth it. It was very cool! Here is my journal about the day that I posted on my DeviantArt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently, I took a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, located at the Universal Orlando Islands of Adventure Park in Florida. I have already posted a few pictures in my gallery, but I thought I would give everyone a complete rundown of the day and what it was like. Aside from the large crowds, we had a very fun day.
~Before Reading: The park is HUGE. If you have problems with walking, I would not recommend going unless you rented a motor scooter or a wheelchair.~
***********************
We arrived at the park aroud 8:00 A.M., right when it opens to attempt to avoid the crowds After walking 1 mile to get to the ticket desk, we showed them our tickets (I would recommend buying your tickets online) and went in the park. We rushed to Harry Potter World straight away, but still had to wait for 45 minutes to actually get inside. Once we did get in, we went straight to the castle ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
After waiting for 1 1/2 hours, we finally got on the ride. As for me, it was so much fun, but I would definitely not recommend getting on if you get motion sickness or if you get easily frightened!! It is a stimulator, so you are "flying" in a cart in front of a screen, so it feels like you are flying on a broomstick. There are some scary things that pop out at you, though, like death eaters and dementors. The ride is about 4-5 minutes. I think that it was worth the wait!!
Once the ride was over, it was already around 11:00. We noticed a huge increase in the crowds, so we decided to eat lunch at the cafe, 3 Broomsticks, before the main lunch rush. I have to say, the food was delicious!! I had the roasted chicken with potatoes with a butterbeer. Butterbeer is absolutely delicious. It's like frozen butterscotch and caramel with whipped cream. Although lunch was expensive, we had a good time at the recreated cafe. If you get the butterbeer, I would recommend getting the souveneir cup. It's $9, but you can take your cup and refill it with any drink (not butterbeer) for only 85 cents.
After lunch, we went to some of the shops. The shops they have are: Owl Post/Dervish and Banges, Honeydukes, Zonko's, and Filch's Emporium of Confiscated Goods. We had to wait for 10-40 minutes to get in each store, which was horrible, but the stores were very cool. We didn't buy anything since everything was about $10-$50 overpriced. The Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans were $10 for a little box!!!
Then, we got on the "roller coaster" (similar to the Trailblzer at Hershey Park) called The Flight of the Hippogriff, which focused around Hagrid & Buckbeak. We waited for about 40 minutes for only a 30 second ride. Trust me, it's not really worth the wait.
After that, we walked around for a while and then watched the show put on by actors/actresses portraying the studnets from Beubaxtons and Durmstrang (GOF). We got in the front row, and it was very cute. They put on that show about once per hour.
We then went back to Dervish & Banges, where I bought a wand. At Flich's Emporium, I got a time-turner keychain and something else for a friend. Finally, it was time to leave.
It was a long and tiring day with a TON of annoying people, but it was very cool. Everything looked just like the Harry Potter set!! Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and I would recommend going. It's a good experience, but make sure you bring your patience with you!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!
~Kathleen
AH I WANT TO GO.
I'm usually not very good with waiting in lines..but it sounds like it was worth it!
I'd love to just go and get souveneirs! I think that would be the best part.
And if you're saying alot of it looked like the set I'd love to just get pictures of everything!!
I guess I'd have to try everything out there, all the rides, foods, shops..everything.
Next time I'm in Florida I'M TOTALLY GOING!
^^OHH and thanks for sharing your experience with us!! =]
I went opening day, as well! And oh boy, I can totally agree with the heat. Doing anything in Florida in the middle of July is just totally insane, but it was definitely worth it.
My best friend & I stayed at one of the Universal hotels, didn't really sleep the night before, were up at 4am and walking over to the park by 5am to get into line. Thankfully, since we were coming from the hotel, we were already ahead of the large group of people waiting to cross the bridge in CityWalk, so by 6:40, they finally started letting us into the park and we marched our way through IoA and wound up being near the front of the line after finding some of our buddies we met while waiting at the front gates (;] always good to make friends!).
Despite feeling fatigued and slightly ill for the 4+ hours of waiting in the heat in the middle of the bridge next to the WWoHP, they finally started letting us trickle into another holding area just outside of the park. We were standing next to a large screen and were in the group behind all of the school children from the TODAY show. We giggled madly when we heard Dan curse over the speakers (don't think he knew we could hear him, but we could hear him and Rupert chatting!). They dropped the 'envelope' hiding the park from view and we watched Dan, Rupert, Tom, Oliver, James, Michael Gambon, Matt, and Bonnie from the screen next to us and got the crowd going. Then, after all the kids and the actors were within the park, they started letting us all in.
It was so amazing walking through those front gates! I was holding back tears as the full impact of the park hit me - hearing the Potter music, seeing the train, seeing all these media people clapping and cheering for us to be there. It was just absolutely magical! We naturally headed for Hogwarts first and while we were about to get in line, we saw some girls squealing and pointing. Right next to Hogwarts, we saw all of the actors on the Hippogriff ride with the school children and we joined the rather small group that saw them, snapping pictures and holding our ears from the girl who kept screaming, pushing, and then burst into tears of rage when one of the workers tried to pull her away. Rather insane, but it was really neat to be within 20 feet of the actors who made my childhood magical.
Every aspect of the park is so spectacular! From the way you actually have to twist door knobs to enter places, the food, the smells, the costumes!
We weren't in the park very long due to exhaustion and the strong need for a drink or something to eat without having to wait in yet another 1 hr long line (Both the Three Broomsticks and all the trolleys were 1+ hour long waits at this point!) We left the park in search of a slushie - which was so good! I knew I'd be back to visit the rest of the park at another time, so we headed back to our hotel.
My WWoHP experience was made into absolute perfection when while we were walking to the bathroom in our hotel lobby, Matt Lewis and his friend walked right in front of us and into a gift shop. Needless to say, we went in, as well, fighting nerves like mad, and ended up having a really nice chat with the both of them and getting our pictures taken. I was shaking like a leaf, but I managed a conversation, haha! Now if I could just bottle his voice up, I'd be good!
At the time, I thought we should have left our hotel earlier! But then we saw the line wrapped around the park afterward and it was absolutely insane how many people were there. It seemed like most of the actors went straight back to their hotels. A friend of mine saw Tom and his girlfriend in CityWalk going to the movies.
We had Al Roker, Matt, and Michael Gambon staying at our hotel. Al Roker jogged past us the day before the opening and we saw Michael Gambon heading towards the lobby from a distance. I'm guessing they spread the actors amongst all 3 of the hotels.
That's so exciting just to think about. I wanted to not even sleep but I knew I had to or else I would have been even more beat!
I swear...if Rupert was in my midst, I would have completely flpped. Even if he was in my hotel, I would probably search the whole night to find him. If dan was there, I would be searchig as well! It's so crazy to know they were so close to me and I couldn't do anything about it
Oh yeah, the lack of sleep was definitely not helping us, haha. So I envy your being able to sleep without someone snoring in your hotel room. We went roaming our hotel the night before and then after we came back from the park. No sign of anyone besides Matt, apparently they were watching a lot of cable or were set up at another hotel. Our waiter the night before had told us how Matt had come in earlier in the day and got some food. We got a lot of "crazy people" looks every time we mentioned how we were looking for Harry Potter actors.
I figured no one would've stayed in our hotel since it was like 2 minutes away from the parks. Where did you stay? I know Oliver and James went golfing that day but there were so many HP actors there, you'd think there would be more of them out.
I stayed at the Portofino, the European themed Universal Hotel. I know that Matt mentioned he was going to swim with dolphins the day after the opening. Apparently Tom went golfing, too, I think, and then saw Toy Story 3 in CityWalk that day. From interviews, I'm assuming Dan was probably in his room most of the time, haha. I feel like a stalker knowing this! During the week there was Weasley karaoke time, I believe. And I only ever saw the back of Michael Gambon as he walked across the Portofino from a distance.
Oh cool! I visited the hard rock hotel the next day, it was beautiful. Oh yeah, I remember Matt saying that as well. I saw a video of Oliver and Rupert singing karaoke at citywalk the day before I arrived there, which was 2 days before the park opening. I wish Emma was there, it would have been a great line up.
I wished I could afford to just stay on site for the entire week and just casually walk around CityWalk every day. Too bad lack of funds and some annoying thing called "class" prevented me from doing that, haha. I was actually just surprised to see how many actors did show up for the opening. I never would have thought before the opening that Dan would ever stop foot into Florida! It's rather crazy.
I see what you mean. I could probably go there right now if I wanted but so much is going on, I'd hate to leave everything for a week.
I flipped out when I heard Dan and Rupert were going! I was so happy because I had some hope that I would possibly catch a glimpse of them.
Same! I was sitting at my computer reading the list of names and just about died!
I was in a total panic and just getting over a cold the day before the opening, haha. I was so worried I'd be sick and then not see anyone or something would go wrong. I was soooo nervous! But I'm glad I got to experience that crowd, no matter how big that crowd was.
To anyone that has or is going there recently, how are the lines looking?
The way to do it is to stay at one of the Universal Orlando hotels so you get the early in pass. That way you can be one of the first peeps into the park. This cuts down on the lines. It gave us about two hours before the general population was let in so many mornings we got to walk onto rides. There was even one morning, I think Thursday, that we rode the Hogwarts Experience three times in a row without really having to wait in line. It was amazing!
Today officially marks a year since my WWOHP experience.
It feels like it was yesterday! I cannot wait to go back. Are they doing anything special today for the first anniversary?
Wow that's amazing! now I really want to go! I could only imagine going through the forbidden journey line so fast! Overall, is the park crowded? When I go back I want to actually experience the park better and do what I could do when I went e opening day.
I can't believe I'm just finding this now!
I was at the opening a year ago too and I was just at the park again last week too. I'm hoping to go this weekend or next weekend before my vacation and then I'll be back again to go to LeakyCon in July.
If you can stay at an Universal hotel, I so recommend it. I stayed at one of the hotels for my birthday and did that section of the park early and managed to do everything I wanted with my friend before the usual rush started.
I'm sure they are doing something special. I have friends that work there and they have been told they must be in full robes for the day. I'll have to get all the detail once I see them in a few hours.
