This is an RP about the Marauders' first year at Hogwarts. I'm not sure where this is going to go; it's up to the various interpretations of the characters by the RPers involved. Unfortunately, all characters have been assigned.

Snape smiled at the small round boy as he went up in flames. It served him right for hanging around the likes of Potter and Black. His amusement was shortlived, however, as he soon found himself in a bit of a predicament with both Potter and Black pointing wands at him. They were too close to give him time enough to point his wand before they hexed him and he couldn't be too sure how many hexes they may have picked up in this first week. The older Slytherins were already trying out their spells and jinxes on the new students and Snape had no reason to suspect the other houses weren't doign the same, as well. "And what if I do?" he sneered.

Sirius smiled wide. He could think of a million and one things that he could do to Snape if he ever messed with Peter again. "Are you asking for a little taste of it now ole Greasy britches? I will not hesitate if you are."

"I doubt you've learned any decent incantations... By the way, how's the leg?" he smirked in response. He knew he should just get himself away from the two boys but, he just couldn't let them think that they had intimidated him.

Sirius snapped at the mention of his leg. His face flushed and eyes were fixed. He took a few deep breathes before answering, to try and calm him a bit. "You are a coward, Severus. Anyone can sneak up behind someone and curse them. You aren't special, you aren't anything but a wannabe. Go crawl back into the hole that you were born in, you filthy rodent. " Sirius acted as though he was done with Snape, he lowered his wand and made to take a step back, then he pounced. He had Snape by the neck and James had his wand before Snape even knew what hit him. Sirius pointed Snape's head toward the Whomping Willow, towering at the edge of the grounds. "You see that tree there? You mess with any of my friends again, you'll be it's dinner." Sirius gave Snape a good shove and stepped back from him, his eyes still full of absolute hatred.

Snape took a shaky breath, putting a hand to his throat after stumbling back and nearly falling to the ground with Black's shove. His black eyes shone with a silent fury. He wanted to retalliate but, was only half the size of Black or Potter who were both armed, as well. There was no hope of Snape escaping without the use of a wand and he wasn't leaving until they had given it back. "Fine," he sneered, straightening up and walking up to Potter, his eyes still fixed on Black as he stretched out his thin, pale, hand. "My wand?."

James laughed as Severus hit the ground, James reached down and picked up his wand and began twirling it in his hand while still holding his own wand on the greasey kid. "hmmm, I think not," he said lokking over at Sirius who nodded in agreement, "I better put this somewhere safe until we're out of your range, wouldn't want to turn our backs on slime like you," and with that James placed Severus' wand up on the ledge above him out of his reach. "Maybe the next person who comes by will let you climb on their shoulders to retrieve it," and with that the trio turned, all sniggering and walked inside the castle.

Snape sneered after them and then, looked up on the ledge after they disappeared through the oak front doors. He stretched himself upwards, laying himself flat against the castle as he rose as high up on his toes as he could. He could just barely reach the edge and if he had been but an inch taller he may have been able to touch the wand. But, it was just out of reach and Snape fell back onto the grass, his knees bent as he leant back on his hands, staring up at the ledge and his wand. The sun beat down on him and he glanced around the ground to see if there was anyone nearby. That was when he spied the tree Black had been talking about.

He got up and casually walked over to the knarled, eerily still and silent, tree. What was he talking about, You see that tree there? You mess with any of my friends again, you'll be it's dinner? Not as foolish as most boys his age, Snape cautiously crept toward the willow tree, hoping to snatch one of the branches and use it to retrieve his wand. But, just as he reached out to grab the nearest branch, the tree seemed to pull in on itself. The tree suddenly lashed out and Snape hit the ground, narrowly missing a blow aimed at his head. He scurried away and watched in disbelief as the tree settled itself back down when he reached a safe distance.

Snape looked around again, trying to find something or someone to help him get his wand back so he could get back inside out of the glaring sunshine. Unable to find anything, he took another look around to be sure no one was watching and ran as fast as he could and jumped as high as he could manage, trying to get his wand. His hands and feet scrambled on the surface of the castle as he attempted to make the most of his jump. He felt the tips of his fingers make contact with the wand just as he began sliding back down the wall.

He landed in a heap at the base of the castle, his wand grasped in a bloody hand. Looking down, he watched as the blood slowly oozed out of the deep scratches on his hands, caused by the rough exterior of the stone. His robes were a bit torn, as well. Slowly getting to his feet, Snape made his way make inside the castle, sneering.

Sirius, still steaming about the Dark obsessed git, turned and followed James up to the castle. Once they were out of site of Snape, he quickly went to Peter's side. "Are you alright Pete? I ...why didn't punch him or at least give him a good shove?" Sirius sighed. Peter was just not like him."Look, I'm sorry Peter," he added sincerely.

Peter was still shaking from his ordeal and he turned to look up at Sirius. Was he serious? Did he really expect him to punch that Slytherin? Peter shivered at the thought of doing anything to upset that kid. "I... I..." he stuttered but, he couldn't get anything else to come out.

Sirius shook his head. There's no way Peter belonged in Gryffindor..that old hat had made a serious mistake. "Forget it Peter. Maybe you'll come around later. If someone set me on fire, I'd want revenge..." Sirius trailed off and took a few of the stairs two at a time. He reached the top of the landing before the others and turned to face them. " I have an idea. Let's sneak back down to that tree tonight and check it out a bit further. We can wait till it gets dark. What do you think?" He asked with a distinct twinkle in his gray eyes.

Peter looked down at his feet as he heard the dissappointment and doubt in Sirius' voice. He didn't belong here at Hogwarts, let alone in the greatest of the four houses. What had his parents been thinking when they sent him to this place? But then, Peter heard Sirius talk about the tree again. Maybe if he could be the first one to climb the tree, Sirius would think he was worthy of being part of the gang... "I... I.. I can't wait," he squeaked.

Jame's eyes lit up at the mention of the task, "yea, if the sky is clear we should be able to see it pretty good with out lighting our wands," James mentioned. "Boy, I'd love to figure out how to get at it," he added.

Sirius smiled with almost a misty expression in his eyes. "Then it's settled. We'll wait up in the common room, then when it empties, we'll head down and have some 'real' fun with that tree. We'll let Peter climb it first!" he joked then he caught another glimpse of Remus. He wasn't looking well at all. Maybe he should go and see the lovely Madam P, Sirius thought. But not wanting to sound like a motherly figure he didn't say anything else on the matter. "We need to make sure we know the direct path from the common room to the front door...and maybe an alternate route." And Sirius set off to find a good escape route for the night's festivities.

Snape stopped just outside the door, listening intently to the voices inside the entrance hall. It was the Gryffindor gang and it sounded like they were planning a little outing tonight....

He waited until they had moved on and then, headed up to the Hospital Wing to have his hands looked at. They had stopped bleeding but, Snape knew they needed to be cleaned, healed, and bandaged up. Madam Pomfrey sighed as she saw him walk in and then, led him over to a bed. He sat down and held out his hands, allowing her to examine them. It stung quite a bit as she cleaned his hands with some sort of potion. But, the soft bandages she put on afterward were soothing, so long as he didn't touch anything. "Please try to be more careful," the matron told him on his way out.

Snape gave her a quick, "Yes, Ma'am," before heading back to the dungeons.

The rest of the day went by slowly yet, without incident, and Snape soon found himself walking back to the common room after dinner. If only he knew when the Gryffindors were going to begin their excursion... They'd probably begin after curfew. So, after arriving back at the Slytherin common room, Snape took up one of his books to read while he waited for the right moment to sneak back up to the Entrance Hall.

Remus was being foolish, and he knew it. Why had he waited until today to visit Madam Pomfrey? He didn't know what kind of plan was in place, but it probably consisted of locking him in a room and chaining him to the wall like they did at home. Somewhere in his mind he had thought that if he didn't go to see Madam Pomfrey, it wasn't true and he wasn't different. He had to get away, but he didn't see how. And tonight was supposed to be their first night sneaking out of the Common Room. He heaved a sigh and pushed the food around on his plate. It was dinner time, but he wasn't hungry. Never was this time of the month.

Well, it was now or never. "Augh!" he doubled over and held his stomach. "I don't feel well. I...I think I'd better go to the Hospital Wing." He stood from the table, careful not to move too quickly or to straighten up all the way and headed for the doors. That wasn't so bad. He'd have a better excuse next month.

Poppy rushed around the Hospital Wing attending to the few students in her care and fretted over the time. He should be here soon. They didn't want to cut it too close. She needed to make sure she had enough time to escape through the tunnel before dark. She sighed in relief as Remus Lupin, the poor dear, walked into the Hospital Wing, hunched over. Hurrying over to him, Poppy placed a hand on his back and another on his shoulder, pulling him up to a standing position. "Are you alright, dear?" she asked him, worried that he was already feeling the pain of transformation.

Remus looked around from his hunched position and saw that the coast was clear. He straightened and grinned at her, proud that his ruse had worked. "Yup," he replied. "I'm just spiffing. I'm Remus Lupin, and I'm here because... um... well... tonight is the waxing full moon and..."

Poppy smiled at the brave child. "It's alright, I know all about it. Now, the Headmaster and I have already made some arrangements so, if you'll follow me down to the Whomping Willow, we'll get you all setup for the night," she said, trying to sound cheerful.

Remus looked at the Mediwitch with wide eyes and took an involuntary step backwards. "You're... going to tie me to that bloody tree?" His voice was low and tense. The room had been bad enough, especially during the parts he remembered, staring at the clawed walls and waiting for the pain to begin, but being tied to that tree... He squared his shoulders. Whatever it was, it was more than worth the chance to be here at Hogwarts, among real people and learning magic. "I'm ready."

Poppy put a hand over her mouth and chuckled. Well, he certainly was a brave little Gryffindor. She led him down the deserted corridors in silence. When they finally arrived outside the castle, she began to explain what would happen. "We aren't going to be tying you to anything," she said as they approached the Whomping Willow. "The Headmaster had commissioned the building of house in Hogsmeade. A secret passage was created from the school to the house and the Whomping Willow was planted to be certain no students could accidentally come across this secret passage."

Remus took in all the details, nodding in understanding. They had gone to a lot of effort to bring him to Hogwarts, and he wondered why they bothered. He was just one student. He might not even end up being any good at magic.

They arrived just beyond the reach of the huge tree, and Madam Pomfrey picked up a branch that was conveniently placed. She poked a knot on the tree, and it stopped moving. "That was brilliant!" Remus told her earnestly. "And, uh, how will you keep me from leaving the house?"

Poppy smiled at Remus' compliment and the two made their way into the passage. "Well, the Headmaster has put some special charms in place so that you may freely roam about the house but, not be able to exit. You don't have to worry about anyone accidentally finding their way in either," she said. "None of the students will be able to get past the Whomping Willow and the local citizens won't be able to open the doors. Also, the Hagrid has been spreading some rather interesting rumours in the pubs regarding the haunting of this house," she winked.

When they finally made it to the end of the corridor, Poppy opened the door and gestured the boy inside. "I'll be back to get you early tomorrow morning. I'll have some new clothes and some other supplies. Is there anything you do special at home, anything you need, that I can bring for you when I come?" she asked, concerned.

"A pillow," Remus responded in a voice that already showed his weariness. "And some chocolate. I'm always tired and not very hungry, but the chocolate makes me feel better." He climbed through the door and turned around to watch her shut it.

"Madam Pomfrey? Thank you. Tell the headmaster thank you as well." He turned around to study his living space for the next few days.

"Alright, a pillow and some chocolate in the morning. Good night, Mr. Lupin," she smiled just before shutting the door and setting the special charm in place so the werewolf would not be able to get loose.

Poppy's hand lingered on the door for a moment afterward. The poor dear. She couldn't imagine what he'd be going through; what his parents must have gone through... She slowly made her way back down the passage, thinking about how much the boy had gone through and the inevitable prejudices. It broke her heart to see himl but, such a brave face. No wonder he'd been sorted into Gryffindor.
