This is an RP about the Marauders' first year at Hogwarts. I'm not sure where this is going to go; it's up to the various interpretations of the characters by the RPers involved. Unfortunately, all characters have been assigned.

Peter managed a few slow, short, shuffling steps forward before nearly collapsing on the ground when James spoke up. Then, he hurried to catch up. "Sea...sea... seat belts?" he asked, confused. "Wh....wh... what are.. sea... sea... seat belts?"

Sirius went and got behind Peter, put both his hands on his back, and started pushing him down the hall. "Haven't been out of the house before Peter? Seatbelts are muggle things...they use in those...um...cars." He started pushing him faster."I don't want to be late to this class. If Madam P finds out flying lessons are first, she'll be after me trying to strap me to the bed before you can say Quidditch. So, get a move on Petey."

Peter stumbled a bit before being forced into a run by Sirius pushing on his back. He wasn't sure his short stubby legs could keep up with the other boys but, he somehow managed. "I have so been out of the house," he said, surprising himself with his boldness in defending himself.

He stopped short, fearing to step out onto the lawn where a witch stood among two rows of brooms. Some students from another house had already arrived. Some of them were studying the brooms but, Peter could make out one figure, just barely visible, skulking in the shadow of the castle. They way he was standing amde him look almost as apprehensive about the flying lesson as Peter felt and it gave him a small measure of hope. Maybe he wasn't the only one who feared flying.

Snape put his books away after eating a light lunch and before slowly making his way down for flying lessons. He squinted and put a hand up to shield his eyes from the bright sun which bleached out any trace of color in his pale, pointed face. He was the first to arrive, even beating out the teacher who had apparently setup for the class before taking lunch. So, he walked gingerly up to one of the brooms and looked down at the malign object. It looked very uncomfortable and he had no idea how one was supposed to stay on the thing once it was airborne. Deciding he'd had enough of looking at broomsticks in the dreadful sun, Snape walked over to the castle wall and waited in the shadows for the inevitable doom which awaited him.

Sirius stepped out into the sunlight, and moved out in front of Peter. THe brooms were all already set up. Sirius couldn't wait to take off. He took off towards an empty row of brooms, when he spotted Snape standing alone in the shadow. Sirius turned and stared at him in total disbelief. Ole Greasy had to be one of the weirdest kids Sirius knew. Sirius motioned discretely to the other boys to look Snape's way. "I'm guessing the sunlight will melt him."

Sirius then noticed the piercing stare he was getting from the flight instructor, and decided to start revenge on Snape now. Sirius began waving at Snape in his shadow. "Snape!! Come on over here!! Look, me and the boys saved you a spot right beside us Severus!!"Sirius said as if they were the oldest of friends. The instructor turned her eyes to Snape, and he almost had no choice but to come over and join the rest of the class. Sirius went out to meet him half way and put his arm around Snape's shoulder, steering him in the direction of the brooms Sirius and the boys had picked out. Sirius whispered in Snape's ear, "You really must get out in the sun more, you are really making my eyes sore. It's blinding me." Sirius took his arm off Severus once he had next to his broom. The Flight instructor blew her whistle soon after, and the class began.

James came out with Sirius and Peter to the open clearing on the grounds where the Flying class took place. James heard Sirius say that he had reserved a spot for the greasey kid so he quickly jumped over one position to make room for him between them. He watched with the rest of the class as Siruis met the kid and led him to right between the two of them. "this is going to be fun," he said looking at Snape, "you have flown before haven't you?"

Snape groaned as Black brought the teacher's attention over to him so that he was forced to step out from the shadow of the castle and out into the sun to approach the brooms of doom. To make matters even worse, when he got about halfway there, Black put his arm around him and steered him over to a broom directly between his and Potter's while insulting him. Snape sneered as Black stepped away from him and over to his own broom. He turned then, to Potter. “No,” he sneered and then looked down at the broom so that he wouldn’t have to see the look Black and Potter exchanged over his head.

He swallowed the large lump in his throat and squinted to look up at the instructor and pay close attention to what she was telling them. She told them to step up to their broomsticks and say, “Up.”

Before attempting this, however, Snape looked over to see Bellatrix smirking at him as well as the boys from the dorm. He sighed and stuck out his hand. “Up,” he said, half-heartedly and watched the broom wiggle a bit on the ground just as the instructor walked by.

“Now, you don’t expect it to obey you if you sound like that. Don’t worry, it won’t bite,” she said, patting him on the back and stepping back to watch him.

Snape rolled his eyes before attempting again. “Up,” he said about five or six more times with increasing feinted enthusiasm, before it seemed enough for the broom which slowly lifted off the ground. He bent his knees and grabbed for it just as the broom looked like it had thought better of its decision to leap into Snape’s hand.

The instructor turned her back and began to observe some other members of the class after giving Snape another pat on the back and congratulating Black and Potter for getting it right on the first try.

Peter followed James, Sirius, and Remus over to where the brooms were lying in rows on the ground. He picked a broom in between James and Remus but was forced to move to the other side of Remus when James made room for the greasy Slytherin kid between him and Sirius. Peter felt as if he were going to be sick and could feel himself turning green as the instructor told them how to get their brooms to come to their hands. He was shocked to find that it only took him a few tries to get it to obey. He laughed and smiled widely, showing his friends, "Look! Look! I... I.. I got it!"

The greasy kid shot him an angry sneer and Peter's smile faded as he turned to face forward again. He really didn't want that guy to look at him like that ever again. If he hadn't been standing in direct sunlight, Peter would have thought he was a vampire, marking him as his next victim.

Sirius looked at Snape with total amazement when he said he had never flown before. That was just pathetic. But, with another glance at his blinding white skin, Sirius suddenly had no doubts about his lack sports. But Sirius had other things to attend to other than Greasy. He put his hand out over his broom, and said, "UP!" and the broom glided right up to his hands. He did notice that James's broom beat his own by a few seconds, but he was still pleased about his first attemp success. Sirius held his broom, and stared at Snape try to get his broom up. It was really pathetic, he sounded about as excited as a three-toed sloth. Snape was taking so long that Sirius actually got bored watching him. He watched Peter give it several goes, then he finally got it. "Well done Peter!" Sirius said in congratulations. Sirius went back to staring at Snape. He tried his hardest not to laugh at loud as the instructor came over and encouraged him. After Snape finally got his broom up and the instructor was out of earshot, Sirius mumbled to James, but made it loud enough for Snape to hear, "He wasn't lying when he said has never flown. I can't wait to see him in the air. Let's take a bet. I give him thirty seconds and he'll be flapping about on the ground. What's your bet?" Sirius knew he was making Severus madder with every word he spoke, and this was just making it that much more fun for him.

Remus tried to ignore his friends. He liked Sirius and James... a LOT in fact. They were fun and clever and they made him feel normal. But he did NOT like what they were doing to Snape. Remus had been mocked and tortured a lot as a younger child, before his family moved from the small village they had lived in when he was bitten. He had an aversion for that kind of thing, and the interactions between Snape and Remus's new friends made his skin crawl.

He said, "UP" much more forcefully then he meant to, his jaw clenched around the words. The broom flew up and smacked his hand, nearly lifting him off the ground. He needed to settle a bit. This close to the moon and the inner wolf would start to howl.

"Leave him alone," he muttered to James, who stood beside him, helping with the taunting. He kicked off the ground and hovered above their heads before leaning back in to land. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he turned his back to James and Sirius, offering tips to Peter.

Sirius heard Remus mumble to James. What was wrong with Remus? Greasy deserved every last bit of what he got, hadn't Snape just broken Sirius's leg? Sirius looked over at the back of Remus, feeling throroughly disappointed that he was raining on his parade. But, he liked Remus, so he went back to hovering about on his broom.

He was getting bored of going up and down though. He glanced over at James, who seemed to be feeling the same. Sirius was ready to fly, to really fly. After what seemed like hours to Sirius, he just couldn't take it anymore. His attention span had been stretched way beyond its limit. He mounted his broom again and lifted over Snape's head landing near James. He smiled over to James, "Now your turn." James gave a nod, and took off over Snape's head. Sirius and James didn't say a word to Snape, just played leap frog over his head. Maybe Remus would approve of that...because Sirius was thoroughly enjoying every scowl and sneer Snape threw him from the ground.

Snape tried his best to keep his face from showing his annoyance at the bets being placed as to how long he would last on his broom. He was certain he wouldn't allow himself to remain in the air long enough for either of them to win. He planned to take off just high enough that his feet were off the ground and then, quickly get back down where he belonged. Why did they need to learn to fly in these big classes anyway? Or at all really? Couldn't they just use the Floo Network or apparate?

Snape turned to sneer at Potter and Black's sickly looking friend, the smart one from the train, as he attempted to get his friends to back off. He didn't need help from the likes of him. He turned back to looking at his broom, trying to gather the courage to swing his leg over and kick off like the instructor had shown then. Just as he decided to give it a go, Black and Potter began leap frogging over him. He sneered over at them as they landed.

Well, if that's the way they were going to be then, so be it. But, Snape was going to attempt this thing called flying. He quickly swung his leg over his broom and kicked off, just as Sirius was making another pass over him. Snape's shoulder bumped one of Black's legs, putting both boys off balance and Snape fell to the ground, unhurt.

Sirius never expected Snape to ever actually get off the ground, let alone knock into him. Snape's impact jostled him a bit and Sirius landed on the ground much rougher than he intended. The hard landing sent a sharp jolt of pain up Sirius's newly healed leg. Sirius took a deep breath and turned on Snape. His face was reading loathe and hatred as his leg throbbed. Sirius wanted to tear him limb from limb, but with another glance from Remus, he took a step backwards from Snape. Snape was really going to get fed to that tree now...and Sirius was going to make sure of it.

JAmes was enjoying every minute of the torment he and Sirius were playing on Snape. He hadn't said anything to Sirius before but it appeared that he, like James had at been around a broom before, probably even flown on one a little. James had played with one of his neighbor's a bit and could at least do these simple moves. He was a bit annoyed at Remus for glaring at him while taunting but it was becoming evident that Remus was a good friend, but a bit more conservative than either he or Sirius, so he gave him the benefit. Then he saw Severus purposely take off into Sirius, "hey greasey, what are you playing at," James said.

Snape stood up and brushed himself off before sneering up at Potter. "I'm not playing at anything," he replied angrily. "I was just following instructions. It's not my fault he decided to fly over me on my first attempt at flying that thing."

James helped up Sirius and noticed him whince a bit as he put wieght on his bad leg, he was still sniggering a bit at Severus's comment about first attempt at flying when he realized that Madam Hooch was standing over them scowling.

Snape turned his attention behind him when he saw the other two look up over his shoulder. The instructor handed Snape his broom back and directed him to stand at the end of the line near where she was giving her instructions. Snape would have been angry had he not wanted to get away from those two fools before he hexed them with a teacher as witness. He gave them a departing sneer as he followed Madam Hooch to his new place.

Peter had been watching the scene between Sirius and James and the greasy Slytherin kid with some trepidation. That is, up until Remus did something completely unexpected. Peter couldn't believe he had just told them to leave the Snape kid alone. It actually gave him a boost in confidence that perhaps they wouldn't begin torturing him and if they did, Remus would get get them to stop.

Remus helped Peter for the rest of the lesson and was blissfully unaware of anything else taking place as he gently hovered above the ground and even managed to fly forward a meter or so before losing his balance and nearly toppling off the broom. Therefore, when Madam Hooch blew the whistle and the class began to depart, Peter was surprised to find that the greasy kid was no longer in James and Sirius' company, but, rather, hurrying off by himself in the shadow of the castle.

Sirius was still agitated with Snape, but flying class was awesome. Sirius and James edged higher and higher with each new jolt up (and especially when Madam Hooch wasn't looking). Sirius came up to Peter after class and put a hand on his shoulder, "You did pretty good Peter, not bad at all. What were you so worried about anyways?"

Peter jumped as he felt a hand on his shoulder but, relaxed a bit as he saw it was just Sirius. "Th..Thanks," he stuttered, smiling at the compliment. "It's just... I've never been on a broom before. I... I didn't think I could do it."

Sirius stared at Peter for a second. He was going to have get over his edginess...and soon. "Well, you did good Pete. Couldn't of done it better myself." Sirius walked beside James back towards the castle. He noticed a lurker in the shadows of the castle and squinted in their direction. Sirius raised his eyebrows when he recognized who it was and nudged Peter to look his direction. "Why don't you say something to him Pete? Ask him what he's doing stalking us in the shadows?" Sirius gave Peter another push towards Snape to try and urge him on.

Peter's jaw dropped as he looked over in the shodows to see who Sirius was talking about. He was going to protest when Sirius pushed him in the greasy kid's direction. He took a couple steps forward before turning his head back around, a look of pure terror on his face. Sirius waves his hands in encouragement and Peter gulped. Luckily, the Slytherin boy wasn't looking in his direction and Peter was able to to come up behind him. It wasn't until after he had done it that he realized this had been a mistake; he should have made as much noise as possible and appraoched the serpent from the front where he could see who was approaching him.

Snape heard someone coming up behind him and guessed that it was Black or Potter. He slowly reached in his robes for his wand and grasped the handle as he waited for... just... the right... moment... "Incendio," he yelled, pointing his wand at the ground in front of... who was that kid?

Peter jumped as he saw flames spring up from the ground, catching his robes on fire. He shouted and danced about before tripping over his feet and landing hard on the ground. "Remus!" he shouted the first name that came to mind, tears of pain and embarrassment cascading down his cheeks.

Sirius was feeling more rage bubbling up in him. Peter hadn't done a thing to Snape...yet. ANd what Snape did was just cruel. After seeing that Remus was taking care of Peter, Sirius stepped up and started taking long strides toward Snape. He could hear James doing the same beside him. Sirius clenched his wand and raised it to Snape's neck. "You don't mess with him you sniveling idiot. Don't you ever mess with him again." Sirius looked out of the corner of his eye to James. Sure, Sirius had Snape beat out on size, but as far as curses and hexes goes, he wasn't up to Snape's capabilites. He was feeling a bit better though with James at his side, his wand raised as well.
