This thread is to facilitate the RPs and adventures of best friends Rachel Skye Watson (FearlessLeader19) and Hadley Holland Denaker (Callie) as they go through their pre- teen and teenage years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Mostly, the girls' vacation time away from school will be RPed here.

Welp, she was surrounded by pink...like, a lot of pink. "Did your room always have this much pink?" The blonde 13 year old propped herself up from where she was laying on her back on the pink and white sofa, her legs dangling over one of the arm rests, and glanced over at her best friend. She knew Rachel's room always had a lot of pink in it, but... "It's like it multiplied or something..."

Hadley rested her head back down on the other arm rest and stared up at the white ceiling. She loved her best friend dearly, but the girl needed to vary it up color wise a bit. For now though, Haddie was just trying to bury away the lingering feeling of strangeness. She'd been to Rachel's house plenty of times; stayed the night plenty of times...and yet it felt so strange to be here now. Maybe it was the fact she hadn't been here for over a year...or maybe it was because it was the Christmas break and she was supposed to be at her home but wasn't (for obvious reasons). She wasn't entirely sure, but it left her with an unshakable feeling of strange.

She sighed. "I'm bored. Let's do something." After a moment, she added, "Something that doesn't involve plants."

Had she applied more pink to her bedroom? “Yes, it was always this way,’’ Rachel answered and then threw a pink pillow from her bed at Haddie. She giggled. “You’re just imagining things but there is the possibility that daddy added a brighter shade of pink to the walls. Wouldn’t you love to know, Haddie?’’ She giggled again. “Thank goodness we’re not allowed to do magic out of school otherwise you would have wasted no time in re-colouring everything.’’

Rachel watcher her best friend as she absently arranged her collection of stuffed puppies. “Are you all right?’’ Haddie was being quieter than usual and this called for heightened suspicions. Had Haddie planned a prank? Uh oh. Rachel surely needed to keep her eyes peeled. “Sure.’’ Her brown eyes feel back on her stuffed puppies. “I just want to remind you that plants aren’t boring but we can play some games outside with Barkley if you want. He probably misses you.’’ Her three year old puppy had grown considerably side Haddie had last visited.

Hadley continued to stare absently at the ceiling, not saying all that much. But she was thinking responses. The pink pillow hit her squarely on the side of the face, rolled up onto her chest, coincidentally where Asher had curled up, before slipping off onto the ground, were it remained. The ferret chirped his outrage at Rachel, until Hads shushed him soothingly and gave him a few comforting strokes. But otherwise, the girl didn't really react, at all, to being hit with a pillow. Which wasn't really like Hadley at all.

Both Asher and Wimple had come with because there was no way she was going to leave either of them at Hogwarts. Nope. Plus them being here gave her plausible reason to go to diagon alley and to the owl emporium and the menagerie. Speaking of which, Hadley still needed to speak to Mrs. and Mr. Watson about Rachel's gift.

Wouldn't she like to know? Not really.

Thank goodness we couldn't do magic outside school... Okay, that one got a smile. At least it looked like a smile, until Hadley turned to look at Rachel, and it became apparently that it was a smirk. The smirk. That signature devious little lopsided smile that always seemed to say everything Hadley could, would and wanted to do, all the while implying that nothing could stop her if she really wanted to do it.

Yet even that wasn't the same anymore. "Yep. Because we all know what a stickler I am for the rules..." She let the silence as her voice trailed off linger.

Are you all right? Nope. Not even remotely. Not really. "Uh-huh. Peachy-Keen, Peaches." Two thumbs up straight in the air to drive the point home. "And Asher would like to remind you, plants really aren't." Aw, Barkley. "Yeah, okay!" She lifted Asher up off her chest and held him above her face. "You haven't met Barkley yet, but you'll love him." Hads wasn't worried given the dog and the ferret were practically the same size. She sat up, stretched while still holding Asher, and then placed him on her shoulder. All ready to go see the puppy!

"Oh no! I'm terribly sorry, Asher. I didn't mean to hit you.'' Rachel didn't like when any creature was upset at her just as much as she disliked when any of her loved ones were. She moved over to pick up her pillow and to pet Asher's head. "I was aiming at your mommy but something's wrong with her. I know you can tell, Asher, just as I can.'' Rachel may be talking to the ferret but those big brown eyes of hers were fixed on her best friend. "Is she sick? Or is she just being moody?''

"She's smiling, Asher!'' For she had just noticed it but as Haddie turned, it became apparent it was a smirk. That very familiar smirk. "But you won't risk doing magic out of school should you be expelled,'' was the brown haired girl's reply. Rachel was rather confident of this.

That had been a silly question to ask. She could see Haddie was not alright but did not push the matter for now since the other girl seemed to be distracted with the thoughts of playing with Barkley. Rachel smiled at the plant mention but wasn't hurt by it. "Mommy let him out so he could play in the yard. Let's go find him. I think him and Asher would be friends right away.'' With that, she led the way out to the yard.

"I'm fine," Hadley insisted. This only prompted nuzzle her neck reassuringly. "You little traitor." She shook her head at the ferret, which prompted him to bite her hair. That was more like it.

"Did you know the Ministry can't tell who did the magic, or even if the magic was intentional or not." The first was a little tidbit was courtesy of Jonas Loftbottom, her neighbor. The second was also from him but proved several times over the summer when she'd get so angry with her Dad something would happen, and she'd get a letter for it. He'd hoped she'd get one that finally said she was expelled, but all she got was warnings. "And all the do is send you letters threatening to expel you. I got three over summer."

The devious smirk was back. "So anyway, since they can't tell who did the doing of the magic, it only really works in Muggle homes. They simply expect Wizarding parents to enforcing the rule for them." Hadley did something to her smirk that, impossibly, made it more menacing. "Your parents are magical, which means I can do this and not get caught. Colovaria!" Her wand was out and the pillow that was thrown at her was now orange. It went surprisingly well with the pink, Hads thought, but seeing the look on Rachel's face...

She sighed. "I'll turn it back later, after puppy time." She stopped at the door and turned back and held her arm up. "You coming?" Wimple hooted, flew across Rachel's room and perched on Hadley's arm. Then they followed Rach out to the yard.

Rachel simply nodded her head at the assurance. She would be the one to determine that. She sensed that Haddie was hiding something and disliked that she was being lied to. But she kept it to herself for now. "Yes, I do know that. I was hoping you hadn't known about that bit as y-''

The girl broke off as her pillow was turnt to bright orange. "Haddie Denaker, you turn my pillow back to its proper colour.'' Rachel had the whole hands on her hips thing going too. She tried to look as stern as she possibly could (which wasn't her thing at all). "That's fine but you still shouldn't do underage magic.'' She couldn't help but worry still. "It's my parents that would look as though they're incompetent at keeping an eye on us,'' she added honestly.

"Barkley!'' Rachel called when they had all made it outside. "Here, Barkley! I've got your favourite ball so we can play fetch. Haddie's here to see you too.'' A bark and the pattering of paws announced the arrival of one brown and white Jack Russell terrier. He bounded straight for Haddie and jumped up and down repeatedly, trying to lick her face. Rachel giggled. "He missed you.''

Hadley rolled her eyes and shared a look with Wimple, her insanely expressive owl as they stepped out into the cold yard. "Yeah, yeah," she said through the shivers. Even bundled up, the cold was still getting to her. "I will. Before we go back to school." She could tell Rachel wouldn't be pleased with that answer. She'd want it back to pink now. But Hadley could not go through the entire break without at least one other color beyond pink and white.

She was getting a migraine as it was. Not really, but that was the story she'd be telling Rachel if pushed.

And there he was. Barkley! Hadley let Wimple fly off and stretch his wings, which he was all too eager to do, and kneeled down to welcome the dog with open arms. The puppy came flying at her, jumping like Asher as he tried to lick her face. And Hadley was all too happy to oblige, getting down lower so he could reach her face. This also put Asher low enough to investigate the Jack Russell Terrier. Deciding that he was indeed a friend, Asher pounced playfully on Barkley. "I missed him too," Hadley said, laughing.

Rachel was tempted to do the stance that she had adopted specifically for Haddie- the hands on the hips thing. But she held herself back. She had a more pressing issue, one that was bothering her immensely despite her trying to discard it at the back of her mind. "Something is not right with you. Why don't you tell me, Haddie? I thought we shared everything.'' For the first time in a very long time, she was starting to feel... annoyed. She hated that Haddie was hiding something from her.

Despite her feeling, Rachel could not help but smile at the wonderful scene before her. "Asher isn't afraid of him. See, Haddie! Even Barkley isn't afraid of Asher.'' The girl clapped her hand in happiness as her dog turned this way and that trying to see the ferret better while at the same time occasionally jumping up to lick Haddie's face. Rachel retrieved Barkley's ball which happened to be peeking out from between the branches of a mundane flowering plant. It was a blue rubber one which she handed to Haddie. "If he gets tired of licking your face, you can play catch with him while you and I talk.'' She was determined to wheedle everything out of her friend.

Hadley was doing her best to ignore the pestering from her best friend. But her friend wasn't going to let up, and would just keep waiting for an answer until she gave one. Even if it was the same lie she'd been giving Rachel from the start.

Rolling her eyes at Rachel, Hadley decided to make her wait a bit before answering this time. There was an excited puppy and an hyperactive ferret and, flying around somewhere, an expressive owl that will soon want to join in the fun. They took priority. Because they were fun. And Rachel wasn't be fun. Hadley needed fun, not lectures; not sympathy. F-U-N.

After about five minutes more of playing and focusing on the pets, Hadley sighed and stood up. "I told you. I'm fine. Okay. There's nothing to talk about." For the last time. Hadley's tone was clear. If Rachel kept pushing, she was going to get sass.

What was wrong with her? Rachel could feel herself loosing patience. Why was that? Was it because she was always patient and always tried to understand Haddie and the way she was? Possibly it was but when Haddie ignored her, the brown haired girl felt a vicious stab of annoyance. If it had not been for the precious scene before her, she felt certain she would have exploded earlier.

Haddie's response now, however, was enough to send everything Rachel had kept in to come rushing out. "That is very much a lie, Hadley Holland Denaker,'' she said, her usual soft voice rising and her hands moving to her hips. She gave Haddie a fierce glare. "Fine. You know what? If you don't want to confide in me, I won't bother asking you anymore.'' She sent another glare, lowered her hands and called Barkley. "Let's go, Barkley.'' With that, she turned her heels to stalk off towards the Greenhouses with a barking dog at her heels.

What the...? Hadley watched her BFF storm off with Barkley with total confusion. Seriously, though. What just happened. Rachel just literally blew up at her. What the hell was that!?

"Come on," Hads called after the girl. "I thought we were going to hang out! Have fun..." It was no use though. Rachel was madder than Hads had ever seen her. Hadley wanted to go after her, figure out why she was so angry over this. But right now it was probably best to give the girl some space. Hads herself could probably use so space and time to think. So instead of chasing Rachel, Hadley scooped up Asher, kissed his head and made her way back to the house. Wimple was still flying around. She wasn't worried though. He knew which window was Rachel's and she'd let him in when he was ready.

Hadley sat against the just inside Rachel's room feeding Asher the last few bits of meat from the baggie she'd prepared. It had been nearly two hours and still no Rachel. In that time Hads had wrapped all the gifts she bought, including a few for Rachel to throw the girl off the trail of her real present. Played with Asher. Turned the pillow pink again. Let Wimple inside. Turned the Sebastion doll green with some extra spells that would make it hard to undo. Swapped the green Sebastian doll with Sebby, Rachel's Sebastian doll and had just finished feeding Asher. Something was seriously wrong and it was becoming obvious that Hads would have to be the one to fix it.

Seriously, couldn't a girl keep one thing to herself?

Sighing, Hadley scooped up Asher and put him on her shoulder. She was gathering up the wrapped presents when she spotted the dolls. Gifts from Rachel for Hadley's 13th that she grew quite fond of after turning herself 7. She grabbed those. The gifts were put under the Christmas tree. The dolls came with Asher and Hads to find Rachel.

Rachel hadn't even looked back when Haddie called after her. She just kept marching to the Greenhouse with Barkley at her heels. She hated having a spat with her friend but she was frustrated and hurt that Haddie wouldn't tell her what was wrong. More than that Haddie kept lying to her. In the Greenhouse, Rachel took her time arranging her collection of cacti while Barkley ran about chasing a bee. Being among the plants and with Barkley's barks filling the air calmed her down considerably and a few hours later, Rachel was almost back to her old self. But she was still mad at Haddie.

"Come on, Barkley. Lets head back to the house.'' The brown haired girl and her dog made their way back, stopping at the kitchen for a drink of water and two cupcakes decorated with Santa Clause and Rudolph she had made with her mommy earlier. "Here you are,'' she told Barkley as she filed his water bowl and then added a cupcake to his food bowl. "I know you love cupcakes as much as I do.'' Rachel gracefully sank down on the ground beside her dog, legs folded Indian style while she bite by bite consumed her cupcake and wondered what Haddie was up to.

Hadley searched the house first. She'd only go out into the cold last. Unfortunately for the Southern California girl, Rachel wasn't inside. It was time to brave the cold and head over to the greenhouses. Giving Asher a few pets on the head, Hadley made her way to the kitchen--she'd pass through it to get into the yard--and heard Rachel's voice.

Saved!

But now to try and patch things up. Hadley wasn't good at that. She was good at humor. So how was she going to do this?

She had an idea.

Both dolls popped up from the corner of the counter. Hadley was fully hidden behind it, but it didn't take Asher long to jump down and try to coax his new canine friend into a game of tag, you're it. The blonde doll turned to the brunette one that looked quite a bit like Rachel. "Gee, Rachel, I'm sorry you're friends with such a tool!" The blonde doll bobbed a bit to indicate it was talking. Then the brunette doll started to bobbed instead. "I know, right? She's the worst!"

And that was as far as Hadley had thought that through. She dropped the pretense of the puppet show and scooted into view, sitting back against the draws and low cabinets across from Rachel. "Seriously though. I'm sorry." Hads paused for a while, searching for the right words. "I haven't told you what's wrong, because I can't. I don't know what's going on. I just-I feel like I'm going to crumble at any second, or like I'm always about to drown or something and I don't know why. And it felt easier to just pretend I was okay and say I was fine than to admit I don't know."

"There goes Santa,'' Rachel told Barkley as the dog licked the frosting Santa Clause. She continued to nibble on her cupcake as she wondered if she should go find Haddie. But what would she say to her when she found her? Rachel wasn't sure. She wasn't also sure that she wanted to talk to her best friend at that moment.

Then two things happened at once. Out of the peripheral vision, Rachel saw the dolls she had gotten Haddie pounce out from behind the counter and Asher the Ferret darted over to Barkley who promptly abandoned his cupcake to chase after the ferret. The brown eyed girl trained her gaze back on the puppets. There could only be one person behind this.

A giggle threatened to escape her at the dolls dialogues but she held back. She didn't want Haddie to think that she was forgiven so easily. Rachel quickly turned her attention back to her now half eaten cupcake as Haddie came into sight. She listened to every word, her heart hurting for her friend. But did she reply? No, she didn't. She kept her eyes fixed down on the ground as though she were far more interested in it than Haddie.

She was sad that the other girl preferred to pretend than to confide in her.

That was it? Nada? No response, no acknowledgement, nothing? Hadley reached up and brushed the hair out of her face. Her hand continued to move back, and she scratched the back of her head.

The silence lingered on and it was kinda ticking Hads off. "Seriously!?" She kick Rachel's foot. Not hard, but enough to get the girl's attention. "I apologize, open up to you and you can't even bother to pretend to care!?" Hadley knew her anger wasn't really proportionate to the situation, but honestly she couldn't help it. She got angry so easily lately. Taking a few deep breaths to calm down, Hadley stood and scooped up Asher, despite the ferrets protests. "Clearly, I made the right choice not opening up in the first place." She stormed as far as the kitchen door, before stopping and glancing back at Rachel. "But since you care so much about what's going on with me. On top of all of that, my parents are separating."

She didn't wait to see if Rachel had anything to say about that or even to see if she acknowledged it. Hads spun on her heels and stormed off for good this time. She didn't head to Rachel's room, or anywhere else really. Hadley just found a quiet corner in the living room and curled up with Asher. The only light in the room was from the Christmas tree lights, and the twilight from outside, leaving them mostly in the dark. Sitting there like that, she felt almost at peace.

Not a word came from Rachel still. Not even when Haddie kicked at her foot. She was startled by it and she rubbed just below the knee where Haddie's had collided with hers. She kept her eyes fixed on the floor still though they did finally look at her friend at the outburst.

Haddie's parents were separating? Oh no! It was no wonder she had been moody and quiet. Rachel opened her mouth to say something but her best friend as already angrily left. Sighing to herself, she pushed herself up off the floor to get a cupcake which she placed on a small pink plate. She had to find Haddie.

Rachel first made her way to her bedroom but the other girl was not to be found. "Haddie?'' she called out at random intervals. Still no Haddie. Not until she came to the living room, anyway, where she saw the silhouette of her friend in the corner. She moved towards that corner, sat next to Haddie with her feet crossed like before. Rachel pushed the plate in front of Haddie. "I'm sorry about your parents.''

Asher was busy trying to cheer up his Mama through snuggles, nuzzles and overly cute ferret dancing. He was surprisingly sensitive to his Mama's moods. It was starting to work too, until Rachel found her. The only thing Hadley wanted at the moment was to be left alone.

But that wasn't Rachel's style, ever. Still, the blonde California girl scoffed as her best friend approached and avoided eye contact. She didn't even acknowledge the cupcake beyond catching Asher before he could investigate it. Hadley wasn't going to risk him eating some and getting sick.

She stared at the cupcake for a long time, before looking up at Rachel again. Her mood wasn't much better but she was at least acknowledging Freckles. She shook her head. "It's not your fault." Hads pushed the cupcake and plate back to Rachel. "They're your thing. Besides, I can't have sweets while trying to be an animagus." Itchy-Mara might have denied her request to be trained, but that didn't mean Hads was going to just give up. She'll train herself if she had to, and that was exactly what she was gonna do.

Rachel smiled to herself as she adjusted herself comfortably beside Haddie. Her eyes were fixed upon the very cute ferret that was Asher. She knew that he was trying to make his owner feel better. Haddie had her ferret and her best friend here. Soon after, Barkley rejoined them too and promptly set about trying to lick the other girl's face.

Princess Rachel giggled. "Oh, Barkley. Do stop that! I don't think Haddie is in the mood to have you salivate all over her face.'' She gently scooped her dog up around the middle before shaking her head at her friend. "Maybe but I brought it for you.'' Hugging Barkley close, she continued. "I never could figure out exactly why you can't have sweets while training.'' It seemed such a shame especially when one of Rachel's favourite things in the world was to share cupcakes with Haddie.

"Do you want to talk about them? Your parents, I mean.''

Ugh. It was really hard to stay mad at Rachel while she was being all considerate like this. Hadley rolled her eyes. "I appreciate the cupcake, but you can eat it for me." She reached out and scratched Barkley behind the ear then scooped Asher into her lap.

Hadley didn't answer for a long while, instead devoting her attention to the ferret in her lap. "Not really." Her tone was sharp and decisive. Yet, she seemed to hesitate a moment after saying that. She clearly did want to talk about it, but remained silent. Only when Asher started to curl up and close his little eyes did Hadley turn her attention back on Rachel. "It's my fault," she said. "I'm the reason they're separating."

"I'm hurt that you refused my cupcake.'' She wasn't. Failing to see the correlation between consuming sweets and Animagus training was something that irked Rachel. She had read up on the subject since Haddie was determined to go ahead with training and had thus far come up with absoloutely nothing that said sugar was forbidden. She needed to dig deeper but right now that wasn't important.

She sharp tone that Haddie used did not take her off guard. Being the girl's best friend, she was used to the various shades of Hadley Denaker. But Rachel remained silent, her instinct telling her to let her friend speak when she was ready to. How right she was to do so. "Why would you say that?" The dark haired girl froze. "It must be another reason. An adult reason.'' Rachel's heart hurt for Haddie. It must be so difficult to hear your parents were going to be going their separate ways.

"Less cupcakes for me, means more for you Peaches." The girl didn't bother hiding the annoyance in her voice. A subtle warning to let it go before Rachel's persistence really started to bug her. Asher was calming down in her lap, happily snuggled against his Mama. In a minute or so, he'd be so deep into sleep that he'd actually appear dead if you didn't know better.

Hadley sighed and shook her head. "It's my fault. They've been fighting over me non-stop. About how Dad locked me up over the summer. And how Mom snuck me back to Hogwarts. So," her eyes focused squarely on Rachel's eyes. "Yeah. It is my fault. They're even mentioning divorce and it's all because of me. Because I'm a witch." She couldn't say anything more. She was already on the verge of crying and that was the last thing Hadley wanted to be seen doing. Even by her best friend. Cradling Asher in her hands, Hadley stood and stormed off again.

Rachel bit her lip and set the plate on the ground where Barkley tried to sniff and consume the treat but she held onto him, refusing to let him eat another. One cupcake per day was enough. She didn't say anything else because she knew Haddie's tone all too well. She absently patted her dog's head, still sitting in silence.

The girl didn't say anything for a while after Haddie spoke. Her mind was in a whirl. She thought that Mr Denaker was being silly over sending Haddie back to school. Just one unfortunate mishap with a hag last term had sent the man into a frenzy. "It's possible they will talk things over,'' she said finally, still looking at Haddie. "It might be difficult but not impossible. Don't you go blaming yourself, Haddie. It's not your fault you have magical abilities.'' Rachel wanted to hug her friend who seemed about to cry but before she could, the blond stood up and disappeared. She sighed. "I don't know what to do about her, Barkley,'' she told the dog sadly.

This time Hadley did head up to Rachel's room. She sat in the dark for a long while, playing with Asher until the ferret fell asleep. There'd be no waking him, and she was getting bored. Momentarily, Hads thought about going downstairs and seeing what Rachel was up to, but she wasn't exactly in the mood. Besides she'd be down there soon enough for dinner.

Flipping on the light, Hadley made a face. There was WAY too much pink in Rachel's room. Save for the green pseudo-Sebby on Rachel's bed. Rachel need more color. Like...like a mural on the wall. The way she did for Itchy Mara's and Sir Knight's waiting areas.

Oh yeah.

Hadley smirked. And since Rachel's parents were magical, she wouldn't get busted for doing so much magic. The teen quickly shifted Rachel's furniture around, until she had a wall bare. Her canvas. Asher was still dead asleep. The sound of the furniture being moved around him did nothing to stir the ferret. Meanwhile Wimple was giving her the stink-eye. He's an owl. It's night. He wasn't sleeping anyway!

"Figura Ocean!" This was quite a bit different than the one she made in Itchy Mara's waiting area. It was above water, aerial almost. She traced out the horizon line and filled everything below it sea blue with a Colovaria charm. "Figura Island!" She traced out an Island in the center of the sea, also from an above angle looking down on it from far away. Ish.

Then came the pirate ship in the cove. Once those were colored, Hadley stood back to admire her pretty island setting. Now came the fun part. "Figura Hadley Denaker!" She traced out a human shape so the magic knew how big and what pose to give her. One that made it look like she was flying. Then Hadley drew out an outfit, a dress that looked like it was made to resemble a primitive jungle dress or something. She colored herself in and the colored the dress green. Green dress, green-ish tights, green shows, and a green hat with a feather in it. Hadley Denaker had magically muraled herself as Peter Pan on Rachel's wall. One last detail to add. "Figura fairy Rachel Watson!" She traced out another, much smaller human shape, with wings. Then she colored Rachel in and gave her a green dress also and made her glow white. There Rachel was Tinkerbell.

Finally, Hadley animated it so that Hadley Pan and TinkerRachel would fly around the island, sometimes close to the wall sometimes further away while the pirate ship shot canon balls at where they had been a second ago.

Perfect.

Now she just had to wait for Rachel to come looking for her. Hadley stretched out on the pink couch, put her headphones on and listened to 1980s rock while she waited. She didn't bother to put the furniture back so that Rachel would spot that first and think Hadley did something worse than she actually did.

Rachel didn't go after Haddie, deciding her best friend needed some time on her own. She reasoned it all worked out for the best as at that moment because it meant she could get to work on Haddie's presents. The girl was at a complete loss as to what to get Haddie and a few minutes ago, it had finally occurred to her. She would make Haddie a batch of goodies! But these goodies would be minus the sugar.

"Come on, Barkley. There's lots to do.'' Rachel dragged a stool so that she could reach the cupboard to grab all the ingredients. Barkley helped by lugging the packet of flour and other ingredients over to the kitchen table and then jumping onto a chair to a chair so that he could set them down. Rachel soon added the bowls and measuring equipment. "Thank you, Barkley. You're always such a wonderful help.''

That was when she heard the noise coming from the direction of her bedroom that was Haddie moving her furniture. The girl tilted her head, listening. Even Barkley had his head tilted like his owner, his ears perked up. "Oh, Haddie.'' She sighed. "I wonder what she's up to. I'm not sure I want to find out.'' She forced herself to go ahead with the task of backing: preheating the oven, mixing ingredients together, rolling out the dough and using various cookie cutters to make the treats. Once she set them in the oven, she checked in with her mother who had asked her to do so to let her know that everything was fine. Mae allowed her daughter more freedom of using the oven than Phillip who was always afraid his princess would get burnt.

When the baking was done and the cookies were cooling, she washed the dishes and set about prepping the things she would use for decorating the cookies. She would be working with sugar free ingredients for this as well and luckily there were such ingredients in the kitchen since her mother frequently used them. Rachel patiently and as expertly as possible decorated each. There were a few that had Eagles, a few that had Lions, a few that had what looked like ferrets (if you squinted at those cookies, you could guess they were ferrets) and a few with owls.

But Rachel was pleased with her work. "I'll have to keep this safe until tomorrow.'' Meaning she had to ensure Haddie did not find them.
