warmth;
Brrrrr!

Esme was FREEZING. Why did the winters in Scotland have to be so COLD?!

Sighing, the Second Year moved the chair she was sitting in closer to the fire so that she could get more warmth. Her hands were going numb, so she placed them as near to the flames as she could without risking getting burned.

It was then that her friend Oliver showed up. "You know, there are spells that would do a more effective job. I could teach you one if you want me to." He smiled.

Esme turned towards him and grinned. "Please, I'm dying!"

turtle dove;

A turtle dove.

Second year Oliver looked at the two tiny, ornamental turtle doves he was holding. Then he looked to Esme as they sat in the library at different tables.

“Just walk up to her and give her,’’ he was willing himself silently.

But he was too shy. Esme didn’t even know that he had a crush on her. She probably didn’t know about his existence. “She does,’’ he answered, this time quietly aloud. Still, he wasn’t ready to just give her a gift without an explanation. They weren’t that type of friends as yet.

Oliver sighed in disappointment.

wizard's chess;

Oliver stared at the Chess set in puzzlement. “I know I’m supposed to be playing but I don’t know how,’’ he said in a resigned tone. “I never bothered to learn how to play this.’’ There was a big frown on his features as he looked down at the pieces. What was amusing was the pieces were eyeing him back.

Olly flipped his dark hair out of his hair. “I don’t even know who moves first... black or white?’’ Now his eyes moved to Esme. Hopelessness was written all over them.

Maybe they should play something else. Chess was complicated.

overstuffed armchair;

It was a quiet night filled with susurrous sounds of crickets and the chilly wind. It was the perfect time to do some sketching as he sat near the fireplace in an overstuffed armchair. Esme was somewhere in the house, huge as a whale with their first child.

Olly was enjoying the peace, safe from hormonal outbursts.

Or so he thought.

His hand paused in mid-draw and he sighed softly at the familiar voice. “I don’t always take this chair, baby. I can give it to you if you want.’’ And he stood up, offering it to his pregnant girlfriend.

Potato;

Couch potato is what Oliver was feeling like at the minute.

It was after just after he and Esme had completed with their unpacking. Despite using magic, moving into a new house was no easy feat. He lay on the couch with his head resting on the arm. Ironically, he was falling asleep and what was he dreaming of was...

That’s right!

A potato!

Oliver suddenly jerked awake and he sat up, rubbing his eyes. “Baby?’’ he called. “Do we have any potatoes?’’ He now craved the baked spuds in their jackets and did not mind making some for dinner.

midnight feast;

Esme really was not a fan of being pregnant. It wasn’t that she didn’t feel very happy or excited, because she WAS, it just… would have been nicer if she wasn’t feeling so hormonal and bloated like a whale. And constantly hungry.

What would she do without Olly? Esme loved him so much. He put up with a lot from her. He also cooked for her when she was hungry, like now when he had prepared a midnight feast for her because she was so hungry. “Thank you so much, Olly.”

She was so happy that she wanted to cry.
