100. Homework

As the clock struck twelve, Dobby was cleaning the Gryffindor common room. He padded around, picking up forgotten socks and scarves.

Dobby turned his attention to the table in the middle of the room. Amid the candy wrappers was a piece of parchment unlike the others. Just as he was going to dispose of it, he stopped short. Although he couldn’t read, Dobby knew the paper must have been a forgetful student’s homework, as the writing upon it looked tedious and the equations complex. Dobby smiled as he cleared off the surface and set the parchment back on the table.

81. Depression

As the morning’s bacon sizzled, Dobby heard a loud crash and a moan. Turning his attention from his cooking, he looked behind him to find a startling surprise. There she was, Winky, lying motionless on the floor. Judging by the butterbeer bottle next to her, she had too much to drink again.

Dobby snapped his fingers, and the pilot light under the pan went out. He sighed, and went over to Winky. Dobby knew she was depressed, and he gently scooped up her body. Struggling with the weight, he made his way to the Room of Requirement.

He was depressed.

25. Sorting Hat

Blinky, perhaps the oldest house elf working at Hogwarts, was busy cleaning Dumbledore’s office. Blinky prided himself over the job, as being the house elf to clean the headmaster’s office was most prestigious. As usual, he first dusted over the knick knacks and instruments. Next he polished the wooden desk. Before he finished, Blinky heard an odd noise coming from one of the highest shelves.

As he listened closer, he began to hear words. “Ravenclaw… what rhymes with claw?” By standing on his tiptoes, he understood. The tattered sorting hat was muttering to itself, making up next year’s sorting song.
