Niamh stared up at the night sky. She didn't particularly like Astronomy, but there was something captivating about a darkened sky full of stars. The Ravenclaw bent over her chart, blonde hair falling into her face and draping itself across her page. Marking on the stars she could see, Niamh wondered what it would be like to fly a broomstick at night. She was a keen flier and liked Quidditch, but she'd never been up in the sky when the stars were shining. Niamh made a mental note to try it sometime, and focused her mind on her work again.

Niamh couldn’t see them; didn’t expect to see them; didn’t want to see them. It was all a huge misunderstanding. She’d been heading down to Herbology, got lost, and ended up in a Care of Magical Creatures class on thestrals with a bunch of Fifth Years. It didn’t matter what she said, the Professor didn’t believe her and wouldn’t let her go. “I’m not even taking Care of Magical Creatures!” She hissed at the ground. “And now I’ll be in trouble over missing Herbology.” No one’s going to believe me if I try to explain, she thought angrily. Oh, bats.

81. Depression
Niamh sunk into the depression that had been waiting for her all term. From the moment she’d sat down at the table and seen the plastic tableware, she knew that Hogwarts wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Things had gone from bad to worse; they were told they had to care for their own utensils and there were no replacements. And then they had to pay to enter the Hall or their Common Rooms. Niamh shed bitter tears. Papa would send her back to Beauxbatons, of course he would. How could any child of his study here now?

14. Hogwarts, A History
The blonde Fourth Year sat down heavily on one of the couches near the fireplace. The Ravenclaw Common Room was warm, cosy and relatively quiet that evening. Niamh opened the book she was reading. It was called Hogwarts, A History, and Niamh’s much loved father had owled it to her in yet another attempt at creating some interest in his daughter about her new school. The Fourth Year had found some interesting snippets of information, but she would still much rather be at Beauxbatons. Papa wasn’t going to win that easily, Niamh thought, a scowl crossing her usually pretty face.

93. Chicken
Poking at her food with disgust on her face, Niamh looked at her plate. Addressing the girl next to her, she said, “Is this your usual standard?” The new Ravenclaw had heard wonderful tales of the feasts at Hogwarts. What was currently being pushed around Niamh’s plate was worse than what she had been made to suffer at her French elementary school, on the rare occasions her parents subjected her to school dinners. “My parents will not be pleased,” she whispered, unsure if she wanted anyone to hear that or not. This wasn’t the new beginning Niamh had in mind.

53. Chase Niamh and Trish dodged each other in mid-air, laughing as they manoeuvred their broomsticks.
“Oh look, Ni!” Trish exclaimed in wonder.
Niamh looked in the direction Trish was pointing in. Seeing the shooting star that her friend was so excited about, Niamh put on a burst of speed and gave chase. As she sped past her bewildered friend, Trish, Niamh called, “Catch a falling star!”
Trish, as was her nature, took up the impromptu challenge with gusto. “I’mma catch it first!” She squealed, overtaking her younger friend. Trish was an experienced Seeker and had always been much faster on brooms.

24. House Elf
The Ravenclaw blonde whirled round with a start. “Uh… Oh… I’m sorry…” She stammered in surprise. “I… didn’t see you there.” She paused, nervous but interested. Truth be told, the poor Eagle was trying desperately hard not to stare. Before her, re-fuelling the Ravenclaw fire, was a House Elf. Despite being Pureblood, Niamh’s family had never had a House Elf. There was a rumour that the very first Anfields had one, but there was no record of what happened to it. And then the family had branched off with the Hopes and become a new family with a new name.
