Drabble #1- Herbology

Lily stormed her way into the Herbology greenhouse and slammed the door behind her. With hands quickened by her anger, she tied her long copper hair into a knot for the lesson. Yesterday, Professor Griesman had told them to bring gloves for it, so the class was prepared for a practical lesson.

Lily was going through her bag frantically for her gloves, when her best friend Mary, came up beside her. "Who put a bee in your bonnet?" she asked. Lily glanced up with emerald green eyes and managed one word before class started, "James."

Mary sighed, "The usual."

Drabble #2- Muggle Studies

As the Herbology lesson progressed, Lily's and her at James diminished significantly. And when the bell rang, signaling the end of the lesson, she had forgotten completely about it.

That is, until Mary brought it up as they were walking to their Muggle Studies class. "What did James do this time?" she asked.

"Oh, he was just being James. When will her get it through his skull that I will never go on a date with him?" Lily spoke with a fire burning in her emerald eyes, but behind that fire, there was apprehensiveness. Lily wasn't quite sure she believed herself.

Drabble #3- Fight

Lily was sitting in the great hall, finishing her dinner, when four Gryffindor boys walked up to her. Although she knew them well, she pretended not to see them.

"Lily, you can't ignore me forever," said a tall boy with untidy black hair and glasses that were hiding sharp hazel eyes.

"Maybe she's just tired of fighting," a boy whose shaggy black hair and rumpled clothes gave him a look of casual elegance, said this remark, dripping with sarcasm.

Lily continued to ignore these boys, James Potter and Sirius Black. But Sirius was right. She was tired of fighting.

James sighed, shrugging his shoulders, and the group walked off.

Drabble #4- Hogwarts, A History

The library was empty, but for one person. Lily Evans sat at a desk, absentmindedly turning the pages of a book, but not reading it. Sighing, she closed Hogwarts, A History and gazed out the window at the lake.

Why was James so interested in her? she thought to herself. Many times before, she had played with the idea of a date with him. But each scenario turned out worse in her mind.

She knew it could never work. She was a hard working student and he, well he was a troublemaker. Frowning, Lily re-continued thumbing through Hogwarts, A History.

Drabble #5- X-tinguish

Although Lily was supposed to be working on Flame Freezing charms for Professor Flitwick, her mind was elsewhere. It took Mary snapping in front of her face to make her concentrate on extinguishing the flames in front of her.

"What's gotten into you today? You're not still on about James are you?" Mary asked, disbelievingly. When Lily didn't answer, she continued, "Don't let him get to you."

Lily sighed, I'm trying. she thought. She pulled out her wand, lazily put out the contained fire in front of her, and stood up. "I'm going to bed. Big Quidditch match tomorrow, you know..."

Drabble #6- Quidditch

Lily walked down to the Quidditch pitch with Mary, bundled up in their robes and Gryffindor scarves. A light snow was falling, and Lily pulled her cloak tightly around her.

The Quidditch match began as Lily and Mary took their seats in the stands. A whir of scarlet and blue (they were playing Ravenclaw) flew through the air.

As Lily scanned the sky for James, Remus Peter and Sirius took the seats next to Lily and Mary. "Any sign of the snitch?" Remus asked conversationally. Lily stared blankly at him for a moment, then turned her eyes skyward again. "Not yet," she said quietly. "Not yet," she repeated.

Drabble #7- Telescope

Lily continued to watch the Quidditch match, though very collectedly. While her fellow Gryffindors stood and yelled as Ravenclaw gained a 70 point lead, she just sat and watched.

Watched James, that is. Wishing she had a telescope, she squinted skyward to see him circling on his trusty broom, looking for the snitch.

It happened in a flash of color. James was speeding in a direct line towards Lily. She wanted to scream and jump out of the way, but she couldn't move. She just help her breath.

Moments before they would have collided, James pulled up, something small and gold glittering in his hand.

Drabble #8- Owl

Lily sat in the common room, slightly amused by what she was seeing, but not showing it on her face.

James stood in the center of a large group of Gryffindors, telling all about the Quidditch match very animatedly. The audience was captive, gasping and laughing at all the right times, even though everyone of them had attended the match.

It wasn't until James grabbed the owl of an unsuspecting first year in place of the Snitch, did Lily take action. She stood and said, "James." The room went silent. James' eyes flickered over Lily, then threw back the owl.

Drabble #9- Transfiguration

The Transfiguration class was about to begin and Lily was sitting on the edge of her seat. Professor McGonagall had promised something particularly interesting for class today.

Suddenly, a voice whispered in her ear, "Don't fall off your chair." Lily jumped at least a foot in the air and turned to see Sirius and James laughing hysterically behind her and Remus looking disapprovingly in the background. Peter was standing next to Remus, chuckling.

Lily glared daggers at James and Sirius as the bell rang for class to begin. Professor McGonagall stood in front of the class and announced the lesson.

Drabble #10- Animagus

Professor McGonagall called for silence and announced that they would be learning about Animagi during this lesson. Lily's attention was already the Professor's but she sat up that much straighter as Professor McGonagall turned from a person to a tabby cat and back.

As Lily began to take notes on the Professor's lecture, she was distracted by an outburst of stifled laughter from the back of the room. She turned in her seat to see Peter, Sirius, and James bent double on their desks in laughter. Remus seemed to be controlling himself much better, and was merely suppressing a grin.

Drabble #11- Plaid

After much more stifled laughter from the back of the room, the special Transfiguration lesson finally came to a close. Standing up, Lily smoothed out her plaid skirt and walked straight towards James and his friends.

"I don't know what you were thinking, but I could hardly concentrate on Professor McGonagall's lesson with you four laughing back here." she said with her hands on her hips and a stern look in her eyes.

James spoke up, “Aw, Lily. Don’t be such a killjoy. We were just having some fun.” And with that, he and Sirius burst out in laughter again.

Drabble #12- Ancient Runes

Lily scowled at James and his friends. "Well, if that's the way you're going to be, I'm already late for Ancient Runes," she said as she tried to brush past them. But Sirius was too quick.

He stepped in front of her and asked, "Why do you have so many extra classes? Are you trying to graduate three years early?" This comment earned a half-hearted laugh from James and a glare from Lily.

"For your information, I am aspiring to be an Auror, not like you four would know anything about that." She sniffed and walked out of the classroom.

Drabble #13- Common Room

Lily dragged herself and her bulging bag of homework up to the common room to get started on the homework before the weekend. It was a Friday night and she didn't want to work all weekend.

When she had reached the portrait hole and swung her bag inside, she looked up and saw that Mary had saved her a seat near the fire. Thanking her, she sat down and opened her bag to get her Transfiguration homework. But, her book was gone. There was a small envelope in the bottom of the bag that she had not put there, though.

Drabble #14- Author's choice= The Note

Lily opened the envelope cautiously, this being a wizard school. Inside the envelope was a single piece of paper on which a note was scribbled very messily.

Lily,
I have your Transfiguration homework. If you ever want to see it again, come to classroom 9B on the second floor at 9 o'clock tonight.
Signed,
A Concerned Student

Lily raised her eyebrows. Only one person came to mind that would pull a prank like this. James Potter. Mary read the note, looked up at Lily, and said, “Well, are you going?”

“Yes,” Lily replied. “But he definitely won’t see me coming!”

Drabble #15- Classroom

Lily was walking slowly and cautiously to classroom 9B on the second floor at a quarter to nine. She knew that James would expect her to be there right on time, so she decided to go early and catch him by surprise.

She crept along the deserted corridor, jumping at every shadow the flickering candles made on the wall. She strained her ears for any sound of anything moving.

Suddenly, Lily was jumped from behind. A strong hand clasped over her mouth and pulled her into classroom 9B. A deep voice said, “I wasn’t expecting you so soon.”

Lily gasped.

Drabble #16- Kiss

Lily gasped. "James, what are you doing? Are you trying to scare the living daylights out of me? And do you have my..." Lily was cut off by James placing two fingers over her lips.

"Here's your homework." he said roughly, pushing the Transfiguration book into her hands. “Sorry I caused you so much trouble,” he said quietly.

“James, I…” Lily never had a chance to finish. James leaned forward and gave her a deep kiss. Lily resisted and finally pulled away. “You know, this doesn’t change anything between us.” She said breathlessly and ran out of the classroom, crying.

Drabble #17- Headmaster

Lily was running through the halls at a breakneck speed, tears blurring her vision. If she hadn't been so furious with James, she would have tried focusing on where she was going a little more.

Suddenly, she bumped into something rather solid and fell to the ground. Brushing the tears from her eyes and looking up, she saw Professor Dumbledore turn around. Great, she thought. I just tried to bulldoze the headmaster.

Professor Dumbledore looked down at her, quite surprised, and stretched out a hand to help her up. “I’m sorry, Professor…I should have been watching where I was going.”

Drabble #18- Future

Lily took the headmasters hand and stood up slowly, brushing herself off and wiping her eyes. “Thank you.”

"Not at all, not at all," Professor Dumbledore said genially. "I'm sure that in the future, you won't go running around the halls in the dark with your eyes closed." The headmaster smiled with a twinkle in her eyes.

Lily started to say her excuse, "I was just...It wasn’t my…" Suddenly, she realized that she wasn't going to be in trouble. She grinned at Professor Dumbledore and hurried off to the Gryffindor common room. Running, literally, into reality had calmed her significantly.

Drabble #19- Pajamas

Lily slowed down outside the portrait of the fat lady and whispered the password. Once inside the common room, she walked to the dormitory for some peace and quiet.

She pulled on her pajamas and crawled under the covers, pulling the hangings shut around her. Lying in her bed, her thoughts began to chase each other around. What was James thinking, pulling a prank like that?

Lily paused in her thoughts. Did she care about James? Did her overpowering need to be superior make her not want to believe that he was right? That they were perfect for each other?

Drabble #20- Past

Lily pushed her cart confidently in front of her through the barrier. When she came to the other side, she laid her eyes on the Hogwarts Express for the first time ever. Grinning from ear to ear, she kissed her mother and father goodbye, scowled at her sister (as usual), and carried her trunk onto the train.

Lily found an empty compartment quickly enough and sat down, very excited. Soon, there was a knock on the door. “Come in.” Lily said pleasantly.

A girl about Lily’s age came in and sat down next to her. “Hi,” she said. “I’m Mary.”

Drabble #21- Dare

Lily and Mary sat chatting happily for the first few hours of their first journey to Hogwarts. Around lunch time, there was another tap on the compartment door. Lily opened it to reveal four rowdy looking boys.

"Can we help you?" Mary said with her eyebrows raised. A boy near the back with brown hair pushed a boy with glasses to the front of the group.

He stammered for a moment, then said, “Well, these guys,” he motioned to his friends. “They dared me to ask Lily out. So will you?”

Lily blushed, and then laughed, her green eyes alight.

Drabble #22- Sorting Hat

Lily and Mary continued to giggle about the absurdness of a date between Lily and James when the reached the castle and were about to be sorted.

The hat called, "Evans, Lily" and soon shouted "Gryffindor!"

The hat called, "Grendham, Mary," and called out, "Gryffindor!"

When the hat called out, "Potter, James" Lily and Mary sat on the edges of their seats in anticipation. After much thought, the hat finally made its decision. “Gryffindor!” it shouted. Lily and Mary clapped along with everyone else at the Gryffindor table, but were groaning inside. This was bound to be an interesting education.

Drabble #23- Present

Lily awoke on Saturday to Mary Grendham leaning over her. She jumped and let out a slight scream, but calmed down quickly when she realized who it was.

"So, what happened last night?" Mary asked, grinning.

Lily rolled her eyes and related the events that occurred between her and James in classroom 9B the previous night. Mary was positively scandalized by the news that James had taken advantage of Lily’s drive to be studious to get a kiss.

Lily decided to give Mary more, “Well, it is our last year. Maybe I should give him a chance.” Mary’s jaw dropped.

Drabble #24- Astronomy

Lily wandered down to the common room with Mary walking, open mouthed, behind her. They both sat down by the fire and Lily pulled out some Astronomy homework that she hadn't got to the night before. "Put your eyes back inside your head and hand me that ink bottle," she said curtly to Mary. I never should have told her, she thought bitterly.

Mary passed her the ink, “Sorry,” she sighed. “I just never expected...you know, this.”

“But I never gave him a chance. What if I tried to find the good qualities in him?” Lily was seriously considering it.

Drabble #25- Pace

Lily paced the floor in the common room, waiting for James to return. "I am so sorry James..." she practiced what she would say to him. “No...James," she started again.

"Yes?" a deep voice answered from somewhere behind Lily.

Lily spun around quickly to see James coming into the common room all by himself. "I thought you weren't speaking to me after last night..." he said, staring at his feet.

Lily blushed and walked towards him saying, “Do you remember the first time we met?” James nodded. “Well, I’d like to take you up on that offer for a date…”
