Draco giggled as Narcissa tickles his feet, his new dragon socks shifting as he wiggles his toes.

"Those look ridiculous." Lucius commented. Narcissa ignored him. She kissed her son as he gurgled happily.

Narcissa held him closer to her arms and started to whisper a lullaby.

Rains will pour down. Waves will crash all around. But you will be safe in my arms.

"You play with him too much; he will be soft." Lucius looked down and frowned. "You need to raise him to fight."

"I don't care if he's soft." She finally looked up. "I care if he's happy."

“We shouldn’t be here.” Narcissa fought to be heard over the blaring music.

Andromeda paid her no attention. She was long gone from coherency. She was flailing her arms around and spinning in circles.

How did I end up in this muggle club? This is the last time I go anywhere with Dromeda.

It was loud, smelled and was extremely stuffy.

A bottle was pushed into her hand. It stunk.

“Just let go.” A voice whispered.

Narcissa closed her eyes and drank. She let go that night. Let the music take her in. And had the time if her life.

They didn’t even leave a body to bury. There was nothing left of him.

Narcissa bowed her head, holding her mother for support. They were never close, far from it. But she mourned the loss. He was her last shred of hope. He had failed. She alone knew of his betrayal. Narcissa had hoped he would succeed. She placed a hand on her stomach. Narcissa said a silent prayer for her baby and the departed.

She laid her flowers on the tombstone, before placing her hands on the words.

Rehab

She leaned to one side against the wall with her shoulders slumped, staring at nothing at all. Her eyes burned with tears that wouldn't fall. Every beat of her heart seemed to take more effort than it was worth, but somehow, it just kept beating. She was long past pain and well into numb. If only she could stay there, and never feel anything at all, ever again.

“Cissy, please come out.”

Narcissa curled into herself even more. She just wanted to be left alone in her room to cry alone in peace. Couldn’t she just grant her that luxury?
