Grant My Last Request

The girl tucked her pocket watch away after a brief look.

Exactly 16 minutes from now would mark the one year anniversary for Narcissa’s love. Never had she actively pursued a boy before and if she allowed herself enough room to think about it she did feel ashamed. That feeling was soon washed away by the image of a long-haired blond walking towards her. His blue eyes were stormy with hidden thoughts; however, they soon widened in surprise then narrowed once more in what Narcissa interpreted as annoyance.

Unable to control herself, she chuckled softly against the back of her fingers. The boy wasn’t amused. “I have Prefect duties to attend to,” he spoke in a murmur with brows arched. “If you’ll excuse me.” He walked around Narcissa, continuing his confident stride away from her. Narcissa’s amusement vanished quickly. “Lucius!” she called out after him, her brows furrowed together. “About my request?”

Lucius looked back for a second to snort derisively over his shoulder. He turned once more and walked away. Narcissa was left to stand in the empty hallway, wand inexplicably in her hand and with a passionate urge to Confund him as he had Confunded her just now.

Light as a Feather

“I didn’t see what happened,” I confessed for the fifth time to the nurse. “I heard screaming so I went to investigate and I found this—Him. It seems he was hit by a Furnunculus spell,” I informed gesturing at the first year lying on one of the beds in the hospital wings. The boils on his forehead and cheeks pulsed nastily. Aware that I was being watched I pressed my lips firmly together instead of gagging into my hand as I wish I could.

Clearly, no amount of innocent blue eyes and friendly smiles was going to convince the nurse otherwise. I consider myself a lady of patience but this was asking for too much. “I have a potions essay to finish,” I chirped and bowed my head slightly.

I moved away from the Hospital Wing and down the corridor with light steps. Despite having not spoken the entire truth to that bothersome nurse, I feel guiltless. After all, I was only looking out for my own. It’s not like I could turn my back on a fellow Slytherin. I flicked my hair over a shoulder. Yes, my shoulders were light, free of guilt; light as a feather even.

He's had Enough

The dungeon felt cold despite being full of people. Narcissa sat erectly on one of the arm chairs. Her left brow had remained arched for the past five minutes, breaking outstanding records. The older Slytherins seemed to be particularly bored that afternoon. They took to putting the first years through rites of passage. A dark haired boy was the current victim.

“Oppugno!” cried out Evan Rosier, sending a swarm of conjured pins and needles at the boy. The boy’s yelps and pleads for mercy forced Narcissa’s top lip to curl.

“I do believe he’s had enough,” she spoke, merely turning her face half an inch. She inspected Rosier’s frozen arm out of the corner of her eyes. Narcissa’s brow remained unwavering from where it was perched. “Don’t you agree, Cousin?” The look he gave her was one of utmost disgust and the girl’s stomach plummeted filling her with a sense of impending dread. She looked away from him; still managing to keep the arrogant air of a Black but inside she was shaking from anxiety. Bellatrix would hear about that and it worried her more than the fact that her cousin had most likely mentally abolished her from his family.

We Promised Forever

The blue and grey vase shattered. Its pieces scattered themselves across the wooden floor. Another Blasting Curse hit the vanity, cracking the corner of the mirror and bursting the several bottles of perfume that were gathered in the vicinity of it. Her chest felt heavy and painful as it heaved with her breathing. She brushed at her wet cheeks irately. The worst possible thing that she could have imagined had happened and now, along with the pieces of colored ceramic and mirrored glass, laid her hopes for her future; shattered and obsolete.

Andromeda’s infatuation with Ted Tonks had proven to be more than a rebellious whimsy. She was in love. She was going to marry him. She was going to leave.

The reality of Andromeda’s fate, and successively her own, hit her like a ton of bricks. Her knees hit the ground, pieces of ceramic and glass digging against her skin. It was nothing compared to the ache inside her chest. Her arms wrapped around the bed post were the best she could do until she could find a way to balance herself again or at the very least, until she didn’t feel like dying with every breath she took.

More tea for Narcissa Black

As far as my secrets went, this was the darkest of them all. It was dirty and perverse. It was nonsensical even to me but it was my secret nonetheless. It would remain so until my body dries up. He was my secret; the one with the piercing eyes and the bossy nature. He was my enemy, challenging my authority. He was also one of the few people I had trouble saying no to. He was unreasonably demanding and self-entitled.

Still, despite his tendency to turn every observation about his person into a compliment, he was generous and protective to those he deemed friends. Somehow, with minimum effort, he had stolen a small crevice of my heart; treacherous vandal.

A dark brow rose from the boy sitting across from me, questioning my silence. I had attempted to hide my unabashed staring behind the pretense of sipping on my teacup.

“Something wrong, Narcissa?” he asked, pompous brow still teasing me.

“Why do you ask, Rodolphus?” I retorted. He smiled.

“You’ve been sipping on an empty teacup for the past three minutes. More tea?”

As I felt my face heat up, I wanted nothing more but to Disapparate from my own home.

Give a Little More

Why was it that whenever some inconceivable mischief occurred in the Slytherin Common Room, Narcissa Black was immediately questioned about the nature of the problem? How was she to know? She wasn’t a troublemaker. That job had been left to her older sister, Bellatrix. Still, the responsibility had fallen on her Prefect shoulders. The blond heaved a sigh as she stood before wall in the common room, hands on her slender hips.

“Well, this is a nice piece of work!” she remarked loudly, button nose up in the air. Out of the corner of her long eyes, she watched a group of Slytherin boys chuckling. Her blue eyes turned back to what had caught the Head of House’s attention to begin with. In the air hung a fiery message: TO THE BLACK SISTER DEAREST TO MY HEART, YOU WILL HAVE TO GIVE A LITTLE MORE THAN WHAT YOU’VE BEEN GIVING. Next to the message was a burning heart.

Rather than feeling the impending blush assault her cheeks, all Narcissa could conjure was a feeling of annoyance. She turned her head in search for the author. Aside from the curious looks and unavoidable giggling, Narcissa couldn’t tell who the culprit was.

Unanswered

“Honestly!” breathed out Narcissa as she sat at the end of Bellatrix’s bed. “I’m trying to talk here!”

What Narcissa had to say didn’t matter. The rest of the room’s inhabitants weren’t interested. Her cousin, Sirius Black, was having some kind of petty argument with Bellatrix. Andromeda lay on the lounge chair, barefoot and pink cheeks, laughing vociferously. It was all lovely for them! They were at Hogwarts, able to learn and explore more about the world her parents shielded her from. They were free, at least for months at a time until they had to go back to their respective houses.

Narcissa wasn’t. Instead, she was forced to listen to dull lectures from the old maids her mother hired, forced to drink an unimaginable amount of tea, and forced to learn every rule of etiquette there existed. Her small nose crinkled, the first sign of an impending tantrum.

“Bellatrix!” she whined, hands tugging on her pig tails. “I’m asking you a question!”

Bellatrix cackled. She aimed her wand at the petrified body of Sirius. “Collopurtus!” she chanted silencing Narcissa as she watched in awe as Bella levitated her cousin out to the corridor and shutting the door behind him.

Stuck like Glue; Soul to Soul

I had moved from my position in the bed for the third time. First I thought the appropriate form of action was to lie down; however, I soon grew anxious of staring at the ceiling. Secondly, I sat at the edge of the mattress; my feet rubbing circles on the intricate rug below them. That wasn’t enough to keep my mind from racing with thoughts, faster than my heart raced with anticipation. It was because of this that I was now in the middle of the bed, legs folded under me. My fingers grappled the lace of my nightgown until the floral pattern dug deep enough to leave grooves on my skin.

A click at the door startled me. I looked up quickly to see Lucius slip into the bedroom. He approached the bed slowly an apprehensive look in his eyes.

“Are you alright?” he asked softly, a groomed brow rising with his voice.

I shook my head. I was glad of my wise choice to wait for my newly acquired husband in bed. If I had been standing by the vanity, as Bellatrix had daringly suggested, it would have surely resulted in a bad case of the jelly legs.

She Wouldn't Listen

It was common knowledge that when it came to Bellatrix and Andromeda Black there was no braking charm that could stop them. It wasn’t surprising, then, to Narcissa that Andromeda seemed unable to keep away from Ted Tonks. It made her anxious. It was because of this anxiety building up in her chest like layer upon layer of heavy concrete that Cissy was unable to find sleep.

Her feet carried her down the dimly lit staircase and into the freezing common room. The fire had gone out. Feeling wary, Narcissa glanced over her shoulder. She felt a pair of eyes on her and hugged the pink robes against her torso. As she heard a rustling, Narcissa regretted leaving her wand behind. In an instant a hand was clasped over her mouth and she could feel the tip of a wand along the middle of her spine.

“No, no,” whispered a male voice teasingly.

Instinct clouded senses and Narcissa bit down on the hand. Her legs geared into action only to be yanked back by her own nightgown. The sound of fabric tearing caused a furious blush to appear across her cheeks, before her lips were assaulted by the stranger’s mouth.

Light & Perspective

“Wingardium Leviosa!” she chanted, swishing and flicking with the skills of an expert decorator. She had taken to decorating the Slytherin Common Room for holidays since her first year. The wreath was hung all over the dungeons, lining the walls as they met the ceiling. She was setting up the Christmas tree, levitating the topper until it was centered.

“It’s crooked,” informed a voice from behind her. Her hands on her hips, wand in tow, Narcissa turned slightly to observe the fair haired boy sitting on the couch. “It’s not,” she defended, frowning at her cousin. Evan Rosier snorted derisively, finishing the strawberry he had in his hand. Narcissa faced away from him to raise a brow at the other boy sitting on an armchair by the fire. “It’s not. Is it, Rodolphus?” He glanced up from the book he was reading, brow raised as if to ask her why she was bothering in interrupting him. Narcissa wrinkled her nose. “It is not crooked!” she protested, stamping a foot childishly.

Rodolphus, brow still in place high on his forehead, scrutinized Narcissa’s figure from the tip of her head to the rounded point of her shoes before returning to his book.

Unhand Me!

Perhaps chasing after that white fox had been a bad idea as was stepping into the lake after it; however, the way Rodolphus Lestrange manhandled her was uncalled for; especially considering he had aimed his wand at her and shouted Incarcerous as soon as he was done pulling her out of the lake. Narcissa shivered where she had been plopped under a tree.

“How was I to know it was a kelpie?” she shouted at Rodolphus, overhearing him calling her a fool while he did his best to stomp around ankle deep in mud. “Don’t they normally take the shape of horses?”

Rodolphus grunted as a response and kicked the remains of the kelpie into the lake. He marched towards Narcissa with a frown. He split the ropes binding the youngest Black sister with his wand. His fingers wrapped around her biceps and he pulled her up. He didn’t say anything as he turned and continued to walk, dragging her with him.

“Unhand me!” protested Cissy as she trashed in place. In a sudden move, Rodolphus had turned to face her. His fingers tightened around her arms.

“Nar-cissa!” he hissed, his breath brushing against her cheek. “You’re being a brat.”

Little Bird

She saw him from afar. He was hard to miss, after all. His long mane of blond hair was iconic as was his confident strut. Narcissa didn’t much mind it. After all, she had grown up surrounded by equally self-entitled gentlemen as him. It seemed normal to her, almost as normal as reaching for her wand and directing a silent severing charm at the bottom of Lucius Malfoy’s school bag. As his text books and bottle of ink hit the floor, Narcissa hid her wand inside her robes.

Malfoy cursed. Narcissa wrinkled her nose. “That’s very uncouth,” she remarked, gazing down her nose at Lucius. “Fancy I should find you here. A little bird told me an interesting bit of information.”

Lucius looked up to smile at her before mending his school bag with a spell. “Whatever you could have possibly heard about my person,” he said, throwing in his school supplies into his bag. Lucius stood up, towering over the younger Slytherin. “Are surely nothing but lies.”

“Surely,” repeated Narcissa. “I would hope so, for your sake.” Narcissa turned with her nose in the air and walked down the corridor feeling that her day had brightened in an instant.

Can You Feel the Gravity Falling?

His breath was hot; unbearably hot. Was that normal? I blinked, feeling my breath hitch as I took another lungful of his scent. My eyes had met his for only a moment but it was enough to make my cheeks feel ablaze. I tried averting my gaze but with Rodolphus directly in my line of sight, my eyes were full of him. Defeated, I frowned down at his disturbingly adorable small nose. I didn’t move even as his hands trailed down my arms and to the small of my back. My fingers strangled each other as I held my hands close to my chest. Through my wet clothes I could feel my heart beating against my chest. Honestly, couldn’t it keep quiet in there? How absolutely impudent!

A sudden movement from Rodolphus startled me and I looked up against my better judgment. His lashes were dark and incredibly pretty. I swallowed, feeling the massive lump my heart had become trying to lodge itself in my throat. Now Lestrange had done it. A single glance through his long lashes, water droplets clinging to them, had puffed up my heart as if it had been the cruel victim of an Engorgement Charm.

Mind Tricks

She was going to die now, wasn’t she? Just drop dead. Her body would have to be levitated away. Narcissa had managed to survive a Kelpie attack but couldn’t seem to get outside of Basilisk’s Lestrange bull’s-eye. His hands felt warm on her back as did the rest of him; every single bit of his body that awkwardly collided with hers. He moved and Narcissa’s impertinent lashes fluttered disobediently. Her moment of embarrassment didn’t last long. It was quickly overcome by a tugging around her neck.

Narcissa hiccupped.

“What?” he asked. Narcissa hiccupped again. “Your ridiculous jewelry is tangled in my shirt,” he spat, one arm firmly around Cissy’s waist. His other hand tugged on the necklace. He looked up at Narcissa and his frown evaporated. In its place was what the blond witch would have liked to consider concern. It was hard to tell as his expressions rarely varied from one to the other. When he wasn’t looking bored he gave off an air of polite disinterest. So the smallest arch in both of Rodolphus’ brows was new, even to the blond blushing furiously in his proximity. “Narcissa?”

Her hesitation to answer queued Rodolphus’ signature brow raise. Narcissa hiccupped.

I'll Walk

A final tug freed them from each other, allowing oxygen to rush into Narcissa’s lungs filling her dizzy head with a much needed reality check. The teenager glanced down at her feet. There was no way of spotting them amongst the mud. She gave a strangled cry. Rodolphus glanced over his shoulder.

“Something wrong?” he asked. His question remained unanswered. It was better not to say anything. “I’m filthy!” she whispered aghast, her eyes wide and the corners of her lips drooping.

Rodolphus stared for a moment and brought a hand to his lips. Narcissa could have sworn she saw the ghostly trail of a smirk before it was hidden.

“Sourgify,” he muttered, removing most of the soil from her knees and legs. “I’m sorry, Your Highness but you’ll have to do with this just for now. Unless you want me to carry you?”

Something about that brow judging her high above his forehead told her that she wasn’t to take his offer truthfully. Was this some kind of unexpected humor from Rodolphus Lestrange?

“No, thank you. I’ll walk,” said Narcissa haughtily and walked, pretending the mud squishing between her toes wasn’t as disgusting as it sounded to her ears.

Progress? What Progress?

Even though Narcissa had started walking before Rodolphus had, he had passed her with long steps. He managed to be seemingly cool about it with mud on his cheeks and neck, and small little aquatic plants tangled in his locks. Cissy stifled a snort. In case it wasn’t enough she pressed her scratched fingers against her mouth, threatening to eat them if it meant not being caught by Rodolphus. The only sign he gave of having possibly heard Black’s mirth was a slight stiffening of the shoulders and a hesitant step forward before he marched on.

“It’s getting dark,” observed Narcissa feeling uncomfortable with the silence. Rodolphus turned his face, enough to inspect her out of the corner of one eye. He had raised his hand and cast a non-verbal spell, lighting the tip of his wand. “Lumos! That’s useful!”

Lestrange wasn’t interested in chit-chat but they were barely making any progress. They might as well start pleading for help or resort to something clever like a Patronus Charm or—

“Narcissa, we’re Apparating,” declared Rodolphus suddenly, backtracking and reaching for her. Narcissa swatted his hand instinctively. Rodolphus stared down at her hand then at her face with wide eyes. “Woman.”

Two Sisters; One Black Gene

Apparating away from the muddy forest that surrounded the Black manor hadn’t been as easy as it should have been. Narcissa refused to accept that she was to blame. It wasn’t proper to be in such proximity to someone else’s boyfriend. As it was, Rodolphus’ mere presence always managed to put her on edge so when he reached for her a second time after having had his hand slapped away, Narcissa had committed a possible unforgiveable sin.

She slapped him.

Narcissa scoffed indignantly as Rodolphus nearly threw her at Bellatrix in the foyer of her home. “Here!” he said loudly. “Have her. I thought you and Narcissa couldn’t be any more different but I see that you both have inherited the same amount of recklessness.”

Narcissa opened her mouth to protest but Rodolphus’ glare forced her mouth closed. She shoved her nose in the air and pretended not to feel a twinge of guilt as Rodolphus’ furiously rubbed his offended cheek. What was he implying? Surely, she heard him wrong and a simple Waddiwasi spell would clear her ears right up and correct this grave problem.

“I am not reckless!” protested Narcissa to which Rodolphus merely pointed at his cheek.

Strict Orders

There was a moment of silence after Narcissa’s last exclamation. She was stubbornly glaring back at Rodolphus Lestrange and ignoring whatever self-inflicted damage was occurring to her lungs and heart for there was something sinister with the boy’s eyes. Narcissa was sure of this and now that she thought about the Dark magic that he could contain she didn’t feel sorry about slapping him.

“Brilliant, Cissy!” declared Bella, bringing her sister into a tight embrace. “You are a Black after all. Give him hell for me when I’m not there to do so.” Bellatrix cackled as she steamrolled into Rodolphus, wrapping her arms around him. “Roddy, do you want me to show you just how different my baby sister and I are?”

Narcissa flinched as red sparks zoomed by her. Bellatrix flew back several steps from Rodolphus and looked as perplexed as Narcissa felt.

“Sorry,” said a soft and low voice. Narcissa turned around to spot a younger and more feminine looking version of Sirius. The raven haired boy rubbed the back of his neck almost lazily but his scarlet cheeks let Narcissa know he was merely uncomfortable where he stood. “I’m on strict orders to not forgive inappropriate touching.”

Not My Chaperone

There was a plethora of dirty words dropping from Bellatrix’s mouth one after the other. Narcissa flinched and wrinkled her nose at each and at every one of them. Her blue eyes found the one of her cousin’s; they were the same gray blue of his older brother but she felt more at ease under their scrutiny than she had ever felt around Sirius Black. His dainty brows rose when Narcissa’s appearance suddenly hit him.

“Cissy,” he spoke softly but his words were drenched with worry. “What happened? I went mad looking for you. We all did.” He was distracted by a gurgling cry from Bellatrix who was clawing at the air in her rage.

“BABY REGGIE! YOU ARE NOT MY CHAPERONE!” roared Bellatrix but did not make any advances towards Regulus. Narcissa’s left brow raised a fraction of an inch. If she didn’t trust her sister to not harm her immediate family she would have worried that Bellatrix would Crucio their young cousin where he stood.

“Actually,” drawled Reggie, scratching his cheek with the point of his wand. “I am,” he finished almost sympathetically and smacked his lips. Bellatrix screamed and dragged Rodolphus with her to an undisclosed location.

Favorite Cousin

Her previous irritation that had inexplicably disappeared with the arrival of Regulus Black was back in full swing as she watched her sister drag away her beau without her chaperone. Narcissa scoffed indignantly and glanced at Reggie expectantly as her mouth hung open. Regulus walked up to her and tucked his fingers under chin gently bringing her gaping mouth to a close. Narcissa then opted to point at her sister’s retreating back repeatedly. Regulus rolled his eyes and took the accusing finger in her possession to lead her into one of the reading rooms.

A flick of his wrist: the door was locked. A sweep of his arm: the room was sound proof with a simple Muffliato uttered. Narcissa could only stand in her sodden clothes and blink in stunned admiration. Regulus turned and tilted his head before smiling brightly. Immediately, Narcissa smiled back even as her teeth chattered.

Narcissa sneezed.

“Bless you, cousin,” he said in his usual gentle voice. The corners of Narcissa’s eyes crinkled. It was so strange how vastly different the brothers were from each other. “Shall we get you dried up then you can explain where in the name of Merlin you went?” Reggie grinned.

One Side of the Story

Narcissa wasn’t sure when Regulus had become so proficient with wand work. In a matter of minutes, he had dried her clothes and most of her hair. Embarrassed that she had to depend on someone to such an extent she pushed him away and assured him that bits of humid hair were not going to be the end of her. The boy had reluctantly accepted her wishes but not before easing her into an armchair and shoving a warm cup of tea in her hands.

Narcissa had then moved on to explain the nature of her disappearance, how she had been deceived by a Kelpie only to have it attempt to drown her in the lake. She explained how out of nowhere Rodolphus had arrived pulling and tugging on her while she was trying to fight for her life. She smartly left out the part where she had pushed and slapped him in her confused frenzy.

Regulus had listened quietly. His elbows had rested on his thighs and his chin had been cradled on the crook of one palm. Although Narcissa had left out her follies she thought Reggie a Legilimens if the grin on his lips was any evidence.

Battle Scars

Narcissa sneezed again in the middle of her story. Regulus flicked his wand again and summoned one of the wooly throws on the other side of the room. He stood up from where he sat across from her and draped the warm fabric around Cissy’s shoulders while he sat on the armrest of the occupied armchair. His fingers gripped her shoulders momentarily before he sighed.

“You really did it this time, Cissy,” he drawled and hopped off the armrest to kneel before his cousin. Reggie prodded Narcissa’s knee gently with his wand. “Normally you just bump around the house knocking things over but you could have died, you know.”

Narcissa winced as Regulus mended her scratched knees and moved on to the rest of her bigger injuries.

“Instead of scolding me you should just be happy I’m alive,” retorted Cissy bitterly, looking away from where Regulus was holding her hands and inspecting her injured fingers. Reggie tugged on them forcing Narcissa’s attention back to him.

“I suppose I have your Rodolphus to thank?” he observed with a sideways smile. Narcissa flushed and ignored the mischievous twinkle in Reggie’s eyes.

“You’re being insufferable,” complained Narcissa.

“And you’re being transparent,” retorted Regulus.

“Oh, for Merlin’s sake!” exclaims Druella Black at the sight of her youngest daughter. “Stand up. You’re ruining your dress!” The woman reaches for the blond girl and pulls her up by the shoulders. She mutters Tergeo and puts her wand away. “Now, shoo! Go play with your sisters.”

The little girl wrinkles her nose. Even at the age of six years she knows that children are to be seen not heard. She walks away from the room and into the corridor. Her small feet step lightly on the hardwood floor. Her pig tails swish from side to side as she moves. She peers out of the corner within earshot of the playing children. She knows she’s not to disturb them as Bellatrix made it clear she was not welcome to join in their games. She watches them anyways in particular the dark haired boy with the very big eyes.

Her eyes grow large at the sight of a familiar fuzzy object being torn apart by her sister’s hands. A button eye pops and bounces on the wooden flooring. It continues its journey until it bumps against the point of her shoe. She cries out in anger. Her sister laughs.

Never Again

It was the worst idea she had ever had. She knew this much as soon as the bowls of punch were continuously refilled and the older students’ cheeks turned brighter and brighter with each cup ingested. Narcissa pursed her lips. Her charmed whiskers twitched in annoyance. It was definitely the worst idea she had ever had. There was no way she was going to admit to it, anyhow; at least not out loud. She tapped her painted nose with one finger. Her fuzzy ears twitched with the loud noises. Her blue eyes caught some movement out of the corner of her eyes.

Narcissa turned her head and frowned at the sight. Rosier and others were picking on the first years once more. They were seemingly practicing their Levicorpus spells on the unfortunate volunteers. They roared with laughter as they dangled the first year boys from their legs in the air. Narcissa waved a hand in front of her nose as if that would disperse an unidentifiable stench flooding her nostrils.

It was undoubtedly the worst idea she had ever had. Never again would she suggest a Halloween party, no matter how much she wanted to dress up as a kitty.

Irreversibly Broken

It was at the beginning of her life after Hogwarts that Narcissa first knew about it; about the killing curse that was plaguing the Wizarding World. She had lived a sheltered life; safe from things that would normally vex others. She never needed for material possessions and she had at one point in time received more than her fair share of affection from her sister Andromeda. Those times were gone and were replaced by a time of turmoil when separating friends from foes was difficult and trust was a word Narcissa dared not utter. It was a time where when her heart wasn’t full of irrepressible anxiety it was full of anguish as it was now.

The letter slipped from her cold hands. “Reggie,” she muttered, staring down at the parchment through the blur of tears doing their best to not fall. “My dearest cousin...” she trailed off into a silent sob. It stuck painfully in the middle of her throat, leaving her breathless. The war had seemed so distant from her, even with her fanatic sister and the mysterious letters from Lucius Malfoy. A simple letter had changed everything. It had broken her irreversibly. She’d never be the same again.
