35. Pureblood

Sirius moped around his family home, dreading the inevitable dinner that was about to take place. Dear cousin Bellatrix and her awful sister as well. Sigh. He decided that a trip into brother Regulus’ room might lighten his drab mood.

Blasting the door in, why bother knocking, he was so shocked by the utterly disgusting display of Pureblood mania that he nearly vomited then and there...Pureblood. It did however set a lovely little smirk about Sirius’ lips as an idea came.

He set to work and in no time the room was plastered with Muggle photos and magazine centerfolds. Ha!

Sirius was so damned angry he could eaten nails and spit out a barbed wire fence at this point. He stomped back and forth across the little path he had beaten in the Forbidden Forest. Had he not been muttering to himself he would have been able to hear James approach.

“Sirius, mate, they say it’s a sure sign you’ve gone round the bend when you are talking to yourself,” called James with a chuckle.

“Gone round the bend, eh? That’s rich coming from you, you bloody deer!” he spat.

James’ glare could have bore a hole through Sirius then.

Sirius waited rather impatiently on Main Street for her to arrive. Throwing glances around every so often, he waited… Checking his gold watch one last time he sighed and started to head back toward the castle when she appeared on the road ahead of him, a vision in her blue. *Sigh*
Brushing his long locks out of his eyes he put on his best smile as she approached and threw her arms around his neck and planted her lips to his.

James threw off his cloak and shouted “SIRIUS ARE YOU SNOGGING DEE?” as though his eyes were deceiving him.

Sirius tromped around the common room, hands in his pockets trying to calm down... Suddenly he turned to look at... ME.

"Oi! Why do *I* have to be angry all the time, aye? Why not Remus? He has more reason than me," he said.

" Sirius you are a bit angsty... and well you strike me as angry more often than not."

Staring up from the page at me he replied, "You're wrong. I’m the sexy one. I’m the most appealing... Hey! Fancy a date later?" He then ran a hand through his hair and smiled crookedly.

Maybe he was right.

Sirius paced back forth in Albus’ office waiting… he had to speak with him before he left for Grimmauld. Harry was injured, things were bad. Barty Crouch Jr. had been kissed and now his life was uncertain.

Finally the Headmaster swept imperiously through the door and flicked his wand, shutting and locking the door behind him. “Albus! Albus how is he? Will he be alright? Can I see him?” Sirius cried grabbing hold of the man’s robes frantically.

“Sirius, Harry will be fine, physically. I am not sure how his state of mind shall be… he suffered greatly.”

Sirius wept.

Locked within the confines of 12 Grimmauld Place had gotten to Sirius. Kreacher slunk about, nicking everything he could lay his grimy little hands on, but Sirius didn’t seem to care. He wanted to be in the thick of things, making a difference in the war…

Suddenly Dear Old Mother’s portrait began to howl and screech and even that didn’t life his spirits. He knew that it was an Order member coming through for one reason or another. Seated silently at the table he raised his head as Remus entered.

“The Weasley’s and Harry are coming for Christmas”

Magic Words!

Sirius strode back and forth, hands shoved deeply into his pockets, shaking his head. “Stop being such a chicken, Remus,” he said miserably. It was a great plan. Foolproof even. “Why must you insist on being so calculating and whatnot?” he muttered.


Remus snapped his book closed and glared at Sirius. “I cannot allow you three to become Animagi just to accompany me during the full moon. You don’t understand… it’s too dangerous,” he said seriously. He knew that none of them would give up though. James looked seriously surprised by this.


“Oh come off it… we are doing this.”

Sirius was not impressed with the racket coming from the downstairs sitting room… not at all. Finally he gave in to his curiosity and grabbed his housecoat and threw it on. The closer he got to the landing the louder the den became. Stopping outside of the door he listened…

“What the bloody hell are you lot doing in here?” he cried out as he barged into the room and spied Bella, Cissy, and Regulus gathered around the fireplace. Their heads all snapped up at the sound of him coming nearer.

“We were teaching these shrunken heads to yodel” said Regulus.

Sirius stood over his CRAZY brother and shook his head angrily. His wand was digging into Regulus’ cheek and fear was evident in his eyes. Sirius pushed the wand harder into the flash of his face. “HOW COULD YOU?! YOU ARE ALL MAD, DISGUSTING PEOPLE!” he roared. James and Remus had been so shocked by Sirius’ quick action that they had stood by and watched him throw his brother into the wall of Grimmauld and then to the floor before they acted.

James grabbed on arm, Remus the other trying to quell the beast that had awoken in Sirius. Scary.

Young Sirius sat crossed legged on the floor in front of the fireplace playing with a rubber snake toy his mum had given him. Yeah, they were trying to tell him something at a young age. Anyway…

Kreacher peered into the room and watched the boy; watched the little brat that disappointed his master so. Sirius suddenly said, “Snake bad!” and tossed the rubber toy into the grate and watched it melt onto the logs. He clapped his hands and squealed. Kreacher wobbled into the room and came to stand in front of Sirius. Sirius simply smiled at the elf.

Sirius ran his hands through his mane of hair and sighed. He loved Harry as though he were his own child, but he had a gut feeling that things would be getting worse for the boy before they got any better. This revelation saddened Sirius beyond belief. He wanted nothing more than to take the boy’s pain from him, to help him through his hard times. Maybe this was a way for Sirius to make right all of the wrongs he had done in his life… A new beginning. Sirius raised his glass with the others and echoed, “Harry Potter”

Sirius sat in front of the door to his room, his wand gripped lazily in his hand, two way mirror in the other. He sighed heavily and then zapped yet another spell at his wall. He was bored waiting for James to speak to him and was carving things into his walls and furniture. Heh. Already he had carved out the words “Pureblood’s stink” in the headboard of his bed, now he was working on “Kreacher is a menace”.

Suddenly he heard James call to him. Picking up the mirror he smirked, “Bout time, mate!”

“When can you be here?”

Sirius heaved a great sigh as he plopped down into a seat near the back of Professor McGonagall’s Transfiguration class. Why… WHY did he have to come to this class? He had already mastered the Animagus transformation, what more could Minerva teach him? Yeah… he was THAT arrogant.

Minerva swept imperiously into the room with the stern look on her face that she always wore. Staring at Sirius and the other Marauders for a moment she announced, “Today we will be covering Human Transfiguration.” o_O Maybe the old bat knew! Nah. Sirius smiled. He would ace this class. Remus shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

“Double, double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble...” Sirius sang loudly and off key as he stirred the stick around in his makeshift cauldron, which was nothing more than a copper pot that he has stolen from the kitchen. The little tyke was no more than ten years old and already determined to be better than Regulus ever dreamt of being.

Sirius intended to be light where Regulus was Dark, brave where he was meek, smart where he was dim witted. It was engrained in him to beat his brother. At such a tender age he knew… something.
