The headmaster swept down the tables, fixing Neville with a disgusted sneer, black robes billowing behind him. Hannah slipped into the space next to him.
“So what’s the plan?”
“Same as last time, but you’re not going.”
“Is this some Gryff idea of chivalry?”
“No, it’s Ernie’s idea of subterfuge.”
“Ernie’s capable of subterfuge?”
“Apparently. You’re going to the hospital wing to learn how to heal broken bones.”
“Me?”
“Yes you, I can’t think of anyone better”
She grinned at him and noticed Alecto Carrow eyeing her beadily. She gave Neville a long, ostentacious kiss and went back to her own house table.

14. Hogwarts: A History
Hannah sat in the library, pretending to read of Hogwarts: A History. The Carrows had really cracked down on The D.A. and they had instructed the Slytherins to spy on Hannah and Neville, so it was difficult for them to communicate privately. Terry Boot sat down at Hannah’s table. She stood up, and packed her books away, giving him the tiniest wink.
Neville was searching for a Herbology book. Terry walked past and dropped all his books on the floor. Neville helped him to pick them up, slipping the copy of Hogwarts: A History into his pocket. Inside was a letter for his eyes only.

Hannah walked up and down the Great Hall, searching for Neville. Everywhere she looked people were hugging, crying, or simply staring into the distance. She had helped Madam Pomfrey to treat the wounded but now she needed to see that he was ok.
He was sat at one of the of the House tables, eating, surrounded by people.
“We could go to a Quidditch game…” The girl was flirting with him. The battle had ended barely two hours before and she was flirting with him!
Hannah walked up and kissed Neville on the lips. No Veela would steal her man!

Dressed in a sober plaid suit, with her father next to her, Hannah knocked on Neville’s front door. His grandmother opened it and to Hannah’s relief she smiled.
“Come in, come in do!”
She showed them into a very formal parlour where Neville was sat, fiddling with the sleeve of his robes.
“I thought that we should all get to know each other a little better. Richard dear, how go you take your tea?”
Hannah smiled and gave Neville a sly wink. If Augusta Longbottom knew just how well she and Neville knew each other, the conversation would be going rather differently.

Still, try as hard as she might she could not quell the sadness that was pouring from her heart. For what might have been the hundredth time that day, tears filled her eyes.
“Hey, she wouldn’t want this Hannah. Today is a happy day; you’re getting married to a wonderful, if rather plant obsessed, man who loves you, heart and soul. She would want you to be happy.”

Standing next to Harry, Neville couldn’t stop fiddling with his cufflinks. His new dress robes felt odd, very stiff and uncomfortable. Hannah was ten minutes late. What if she’s changed her mind? He looked at the aisle that she should have already walked down and he started to panic.
“She’s late, why’s she late? She’s never late, never.”
“Bride’s prerogative. Being on time is bad manners or something. Calm down, you’re going to give yourself a heart attack.”
And then, there she was, clasping her father’s arm tightly. She was breathtakingly beautiful and she was going to be his wife.

Hannah curled up in bed alone, feeling cold and lonely. She reached out her hand and stroked Neville’s pillow. He had been back at work for three days and she missed him terribly. She pulled the blankets up under her chin, shivering. She had tried to read but she couldn’t focus; she hadn’t been able to concentrate since he had left.
She threw off the blankets and went into the bathroom. She grabbed a pair of his pyjamas out of the linen basket and pulled them on over her own. She breathed in his smell, feeling less lonely, but desperately sad.

Neville watched as Hannah and Susan made their way over to a table in the Three Broomsticks, whispering and casting none too subtle glances at him. He wondered if he had a sign charmed to his back again. Madam Rosmerta smiled at him kindly.
“Butterbeer please.”
“If a girl is looking at you that often, it’s not a bad thing my lovely.”
“What?”
“Just an observation.”
“She wouldn’t be interested -”
“Come and sit with us Neville” Hannah called across to him.
Madam Rosmerta arched an eyebrow at him.
“Buy her chocolates and she’ll love you forever.”
Neville blushed furiously.

Packing and Parting.
96. Socks
Neville searched through his trunk fruitlessly. He had always forgotten things when packing as a pupil, so why should it be any different now that he was a professor? Hannah had offered to pack his trunk for him and now he wished that he had let her. He felt guilty about leaving her and having her pack for him would have been like giving her a punishment.
As he was contemplating putting yesterday’s socks on there was a tap at the window. He let the owl in and it dropped a parcel on his bed.

The Venomous Tentacula had seized the wrist of his wand hand tightly and had started to squeeze. He grasped around for some secateurs to cut the vine with as it started to pull him away from the bench, swearing furiously. Just in time he cut himself free. Behind him he heard a beautifully familiar laugh.
“Just because the students won’t be here for three days, it doesn’t mean that there are no sensitive ears to hear that foul language you know.”
He frowned, sweaty and confused.
“When our baby is born you’ll have to yodel instead of swear.”

34. Parseltongue
Hannah frowned. What Ernie had said about Harry Potter being a parseltongue made sense, but he just seemed so nice.
All of a sudden, Neville Longbottom was glaring down at them, looking extremely angry, his face blotchy.
“I don’t care if Harry IS a parseltongue, I believe him when he said he didn’t do it!”
Hannah stared up at him, too shocked to say anything. All the colour drained out of his face and he ran for the door.
She’d always thought of him as a bit of a mouse, perhaps there was a Gryffindor lion in there after all.

97. Dictionary
Neville was concentrating on the newspaper and didn’t see the scrubbing brush coming.
“Oww! What was that for?”
“You left the breakfast dishes in the sink. AGAIN!”
A sensible man would appologise to his heavily pregnant wife. Sadly Neville was lacking that sense. Neville ducked as a plate went sailing past him.
“Hannah, calm down, it’s only -”
“Only? ONLY? It’s every ruddy day!”
He ducked again as a vase smashed against the wall.
“Hannah please -”
“What? I’ve asked you a thousand times!”
“I’m sorry. I’m really, really sorry! Listen, just put the dictionary down and let’s talk about this.”

Neville sat in the library, working on what felt like a never ending pile of homework. Hannah dropped into a chair at his table.

“Hello.” He blushed. Lately, every time he spoke to Hannah he became completely tongue-tied.
“Are you ready for the exams? I’m not; I’m really worried about Transfiguration and Potions. Do you think that Harry or Cedric will win the Cup? I hope Cedric will, obviously…”
She chattered away, oblivious to his discomfort. He wondered why he felt so stupid every time he was around her. It was only Hannah, after all.

24. House elf
Hannah and Neville had taken a house elf under Hermione’s relocation scheme. Skippy was very nervous at first and she expected to be punished when she made mistakes. Eventually Hannah managed to get her to relax.
That was until Neville came home with a cat.
When Hannah left them alone, the cat lunged for Skippy, spitting and clawing her. Skippy dashed up the curtains to safety.
Four hours later when Hannah came home, Skippy was still hovering on the curtain rail while the cat prowled around the bottom.
“Mistress! It wants to eat me, that cat wants to each me!”

Hannah looked at Professor Sprout and burst into tears.
“I’m too stupid to take exams! I want to leave now, I just want to go home!”
Neville looked at her, knowing how she felt. He rubbed her arm discretely, hoping that she would stop crying soon. She looked up at him and tried to smile but her tears seemed to double. He was so alarmed that he dropped his trowel on her foot.

She hurried out of the library, concentrating on the hours of work that were stretching ahead and tripped over her own robes. She dropped the books as she started to fall, but someone caught her.

“Well, if you two are going to waste time being lovey-dovey, you’ll have to excuse me.” Ernie snapped and sped off, catching up with Harry, Ron and Hermione.

3. Transfiguration.
“Just breathe Hannah, it’ll be fine.”
Neville’s nerves were bad enough, but he had seen his calm, confident girlfriend turn into a nervous jelly.
“Abbot, Hannah”
She grimaced and walked into the Transfiguration exam. Minutes later there was a loud squeal from inside the hall.
Neville looked at Dean. “I think I recognise that squeal.”
Dean tried not to laugh.
Over the next ten minutes a flock of flamingoes were carried from the the hall. Eventually, Hannah emerged, pink in the face and wishing that she had vanishing sickness so that no-one would be able to look at her ever again.

On platform nine and three quarters, Hannah spied Neville and his grandmother. She gave him a small wave, but didn’t approach them. She could hear snippets of what Mrs Longbottom was saying.
“You need to consider your future Neville...”
Neville could see his future. She was stood not too far away and all he wanted to do right now was go and say hello to her. He saw her struggling with her trunk, almost dropping it on her foot.
“I should go help my friend, Gran. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do.”
Mrs Longbottom gave him a rare proud smile.

Neville sat up and gave Dean a filthy look. “Ow?!?”

“Well go and shout at her, just go and stop driving me mental!” Dean glared back at him.

Hannah woke up on Christmas morning and reached out for Neville, only to find his side of the bed was empty.
At the foot of the bed was a huge box. Hannah rubbed her eyes in disbelief. It was still there. Pulling on her slippers, she walked to the box. The tag simply said, Your Christmas Present.
Smiling, she pulled the lid off the lid off the box, only to find another inside. This went on and on, the boxes became smaller and smaller. In the final rectangular box was a beautiful diamond bracelet.
She gasped.
“Merry Christmas, Mrs Longbottom.”

Neville sat bolt upright in bed, heart pounding.
“Wha’s up?” Hannah slurred sleepily.
“That girl and her boy!”
Lexi and Lorcan had snuck into the greenhouse late at night, raiding the plants for their own mischievous purposes. Lexi tripped on the way out, her ankle caught on a vine, falling and knocking Lorcan into one of the tables, which toppled into another and another. Within seconds the entire greenhouse lay in ruins.
“Quick! Run!” They scrambled to their feet and bolted out of door.
“Love, it’s just a nightmare.”
