Fred Weasley

61. Kiss

“Kiss it!”

“NO!”

“Just kiss it, Ron! It only smells like that because it’s diseeeeeeased!”

“MUUUUUUM!”

Seven year old Fred Weasley immediately let his brother out of the headlock he’d had him in and vaulted over the back of the sofa where he propped his foot back on the cushion. As Molly Weasley bustled in, Ron was making his getaway from Fred. The plump woman cocked her head in bewilderment, before ruffling Fred’s hair.

“How’s the toe, Freddy?”

“Still diseeeeased, mum.”

Molly smiled and left. Fred did too.

Ron would kiss Fred’s infected big toe before the day was out.

25. Sorting Hat

As Fred sat on the stool to have the Sorting Hat placed on his head, the boy wondered vaguely whether he or George was more nervous. He NEEDED to be in Gryffindor, like the rest of his family. George was nervous about the same thing.

But he was sure it wouldn’t matter.

The hat had been babbling away and, whereas Fred had tuned all that out, there was no way he could miss the shout.

“GRYFFINDORRRRRRR!”

Beaming, Fred took off the hat and ran over to sit by Charlie.

Staring up at George, Fred crossed his fingers under the table.

56. Fight

“Percy! Give it baaaaack!” Fred whined, jumping and acting downright pathetic as he tried to grab at the ‘toy’ his older brother had.

“No!” came the bossy voice of the five year old. “You’re too young!”

Fred jumped for the lego piece in Percy’s hand and then scowled. George was watching interestedly over the back of the sofa, which gave Fred more cause to look tough; no tough kid obeyed his big brother.

So he tackled Percy to the ground (“AAAAAARGH!”), and the pair rolled around to fight over the plastic toy.

“FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!” cried George in utter glee.

67. Quell

Molly sighed as she turned to face the kitchen door. How many times was she going to have to quell this riot? Fred and George were upstairs arguing, and she knew what about.

Heck, EVERYONE knew what about.

Throwing this dish rag into the sink, Molly started upstairs.

Behind the blue door of the twins’ bedroom (which had a gold ‘F’ and ‘G’ on it) there sounds of crashing, thumping, and shouting. Molly flung open the door.

“For the love of Merlin, you’re BOTH the oldest!” she exclaimed, but winked at Fred, who’d fittingly appeared to have won the fight.

68. Roar

Fred stood, in absolute silence, waiting for his twin brother to enter the room. In all his nervousness, he couldn’t prevent a small giggle escape his lips.

Wiping his sweaty brow with the palm of his hand, Fred didn’t think twice before he ran that hand through his hair, unintentionally messing it up.

Footsteps. Fred hushed, hid…

The door slowly creaked open and George Weasley entered.

“ROAR!” came the voice of Fred as he jumped out and on top of his twin, who squealed.

They were about to finish their sixth year of Hogwarts, and life for them was sweet.

29. Pensieve

Fred’s face still held that smile… the winning smile. He’d died smiling. It was fitting.

Everyone stood back as George stared down at his twin brother; for one of them to go was something nobody expected.

It just seemed to Harry that there was one thing he could do, and that was to give the Weasley’s a way to remember that boy.

And so, he did.

He led them to the pensieve.

Every good part of Fred’s life was shown that day for the family, and, afterwards, George went to his twin, and covered the man’s face. The first step.

6. Divination

George was keeping watch, that much was good. Meanwhile, the other twin had snuck into the Divination classroom. Fred moved quietly, aware that the woman had mirrors concealed in this room so she could see into it from her office.

Fred was pleased to hear the grumbling and unladylike snores coming from nearby.

Trelawney was sleeping.

Fred moved as quickly as he dared, dashing to the woman’s desk… and there they sat.

Trelawney’s spectacles.

The fact that Fred stole them was no mystery.

In fact, a Trelawney fashion show was held in the common room that very night.

Mission: Accomplished.

18. Whomping Willow

“It ain’t happenin’,” Fred stated simply, staring at the swaayyyying tree (from afar). His brother held the map they had just discovered (and easily accessed), and was twisting the thing around as if to check all the angles.

“It definitely goes there,” George insisted, and studied the tree as well. He suddenly pointed, apparently breaching the tree’s space, for a branch neatly whipped his hand away. “Ouch! There… do you see it? Go check!”

Fred gave his brother a sceptical look, and went forth.

No less than 25 minutes later, Fred was running back, battered and bruised.

“I TOLD you!”

42. Portraits

It was pretty widely known that a portrait of you would only interact with people, instead of all that waving and smiling nonsense, when you were, to be blunt… well… dead.

When George finally got the portrait painter to paint his brother, he was buzzing. The excitement raced through him and he imagined all the conversations he would have with the guy. They could chat again…

When, finally, the portrait dude left and George unveiled the painting, he saw, and especially heard, the thing that he had bizarrely missed… but which would now any him… until forever.

Fred’s epic snoring.

81. Depression

Out in the chicken’s area of the yard, Fred was moping. His brother was inside with a great gaping hole in his head, and Fred was here with both ears. It totally sucked.

When his father joined him, Fred threw the last of the feed down for the poultry and looked his father straight in the eye.

“I’m depressed,” he stated, and though Arthur looked for a playful glint in his eye, there was none. “Me and him ain’t identical anymore.”

Then, while musing, Fred thought of something. He stared, all crazy looking, at his father.

“Cut my ear off.”

85. Snappish

Whilst roaming through his father’s muggle items out in the shed, Fred had come across something… extremely amusing. He actually asked permission to keep it, and, to his great joy, it seemed karma was at play, for a great opportunity to use it came up that morning.

Percy was, basically, in a bad mood.

“Geeeee, Perce, why so snappish?” Fred asked, injected utter glee into his voice.

“I am NOT snappish.”

“SNAPSNAP!” Fred exclaimed, pulling the lever of his muggle toy, which made a crocodile’s mouth open and close. He snapped it in front of Percy, trapping his nose inside.

21. Veela

The Quidditch World Cup was something Fred had been looking forward to for such a long time, especially since he’d heard that it was Bulgaria playing.

Which of course meant an influx of (happy siiiiiigh) Veela.

He’d managed to survive the actual game, and now here he was in the woods, separated from his brother and Ginny.

Not. Good.

He thought he saw Ron and his friends up ahead, and hurriedly tried to keep up. They’d lingered around here for a while before leaving.

And now Fred saw why.

There were girls. And they looked part Veela.

“Helloooo, ladies.”

Score.

59. Ignore

“That jerk can’t keep ignoring us forever,” Fred grumbled as he and his twin approached the bottom of the stairs that led to the owlery. “We won fair and square… he’s just-”

“A jerk,” George finished, looking distracted.

“Hey, what do you think about Angelina?” Fred suddenly asked, stopping in his tracks. His brother continued looking distracted, thinking about that same girl himself.

Fred scowled, pulled out a fake wand from his pocket, waited for it to turn to a rubber chicken, and whacked George upside the head with it.

“OUCH!” George exclaimed. “What was that for?!”

“Quit ignoring me.”

24. House elf

“Treat me like a house elf… I’ll show you… stupid teddy… idiot…”

Fred was doing garden work as punishment.

He was, by no means, being unfairly treated. In fact, he didn’t know it, but his father stood not too far away, watching the five year old while hidden. Fred only had to pull up a few potatoes and load them into a small wheelbarrow for this portion of his ‘lesson’ to be over.

Teach him some discipline, learning to do a house elf’s jobs.

Arthur was still perplexed as to how Fred managed to turn the teddy into a spider.

86. Daring

“You won’t do it, you’re chicken!” George exclaimed, standing beside Fred on top of the garden shed. Below them was a foul smelling pit of… well… I guess you could call it fertilizer.

Fred stood looking down at it, thoughtfully.

He had always been the daring twin.

“I’m Fred, actually,” he stated, and took on a stance as if to jump, and then…

He pushed George in.

Yep, Fred had always been the more daring twin, the one more likely to do things to get himself, or both of them, into trouble.

“WOOHOO!” he bellowed, dive bombing in after George.

35. Pureblood

As first years, the twins learnt to stick up for each other. They were blood traitors, and unliked by the ‘pureblood’ community (you only called it pure if you thought it was superior). Nobody messed with the twins when they were together, but one day, Fred found himself jostled away from George in the corridor.

And found himself amidst Slytherins.

After a series of name calling jeers, Fred was faced with the Slytherin prefect, who sneered at him.

“You’re no pureblood.”

“I’d be ashamed if I was,” Fred spat, then stomped on the boy’s foot.

And hightailed it outta there.

82. Careful

“Do be careful, Freddie,” Molly called after her son, watching the boy’s face closely. She had a really bad feeling about this… well… most battles would give a mother a bad feeling. She thought of George, who had already gone on ahead. The incident with his ear… he was prone to be hurt. After all, she hadn’t had a chance to speak to Georgie before he left…

“I’ll be fine, mum,” Fred assured the woman, giving her forehead a quick kiss and running down the corridor. Molly watched him go.

Neither of them knew they’d never see the other again.

88. Sweet Tooth

Fred had never really had much of a sweet tooth, if he was completely honest. The Weasley family weren’t really ones for sweets, except Ron, of course, but Ron would eat absolutely anything.

That all changed, albeit just for a day, when Fred discovered Honeydukes.

They’d just escaped Filch’s office, then the Whomping Willow, and had made it to the one-eyed witch statue. The Weasley twins had then proceeded through the secret passageway and out the other end.

Onthat little excursion, Fred swiped more candy than George wanted was capable of…

And the first year was sick for a week.

55. Egg on

“Go on, Fred,” Bill urged pushing gently against his little brother’s back. “George tried it already. Go on!”

Little Freddie bit his lip, looking uncertain. The fact that George had already done it made him want to prove he was just as good. Plus, Bill was only ever nice.

The fact that Bill had a sneaky smile on his face as he egged Fred on didn’t even register to the four year old.

Later that night, Fred found out that throwing a wet-start firework into the fertilizer had its consequences.

He was laid up for a week, same as George.

9. Defence Against the Dark Arts

Lupin seemed like an interesting guy, and his lessons were cool. Fred believed that was true, completely and absolutely, which was why he’d stayed behind after that first lesson to speak to him.

“Sir?” Fred said tentatively, and Lupin turned in surprise. He knew this was one of the twins… and from what he’d heard, neither of them was the sort to stay after class.

“Yes… Weasley?”

“I’m Fred. I just wanted to say… I’m totally looking forward to DADA.”

He grinned and left, and the interaction was never spoken of again.

Fred had a reputation to uphold, after all.

14. Hogwarts, A History

“You should check it in Hogwarts, A History,” Hermione said smartly in reply to Fred’s question about his History of Magic homework.

The red head just stared at her as if she had just told him some kind of maths equation. The girl sighed.

“You really look like Ron when you do that,” she stated, and began packing up her books to take up to her dormitory. “Now, if you’ll excuse me-”

“What’s Hogwarts, A History?”

Hermione stared, and then pulled a book from her bag and pressed it into his hands. “Here. This is what we call a book.”

89. Past

Fred had never actually believed in that whole ‘life flashing before your eyes when you die’ thing. It just didn’t seem plausible. You’d live your life again just to see it.

So, when Fred was killed, (which wasn’t necessarily a surprise, but a nasty shock) he was amused to find it was true. In a split second Fred saw every detail of every moment of every memory, before it all melted in to one bright light, which he went towards, wanting to relive the moments over and over.

When Fred died, he’d relived his past, and knew he was ready.

26. Quill

Twirrrrrly quill.

That was all Fred could think when he sat in his OWL examinations, staring at the blank History of Magic paper as the time sloooooowly ran out. There was no point in fooling himself that he might be able to try; half the room were clueless.

But Fred would miss those good sleeping hours in Binns’ class.

Feeling a little dizzy, Fred kept twirling the quill in front of his eyes, until he saw George.

Doing exactly the same thing. Despite not being able to see what Fred was doing.

Figures.

They called them identical for a reason.

4. Ancient Runes

“You shouldn’t just pick the same subjects as George,” Percy said pompously, with a disapproving sniff in Fred’s direction. “It’s very co-dependent of you. You need to start carving your own route.”

Fred just stared at Percy.

He was never, ever, EVER asking the boy for help picking his options. Just because the guy was most likely to be a prefect next year, that apparently made him the wise old man of Hogwarts. In fact, all Fred had said was that he was getting annoyed with the whole procedure.

“You should take Ancient Runes. Challenge yourself!”

Fred couldn’t stop laughing.

36. Muggle

All in all, Fred felt that his idea was genius. Go down into the village, do a few card tricks, earn a couple of… what was the currency they used? Fred was sure they called it ‘squid’ or something ridiculous. Feh. Anyway, it started off fine.

Until the muggle girl in the card shop decided she loved George.

On one occasion, she had even seized George’s lips in a kiss, when the girl’s father came into view.

He was… a rather large man.

And Fred didn’t hesitate in grabbing George’s sleeve and running for the hills.

Maybe not so genius.
