April, 2071: Beauxbatons

In the midst of April, everybody at school was antsy to get out. One Saturday, there were sixteen of them out playing hide-and-seek in the grounds.

"MACCYY!" somebody called.

She snickered, leaning down further behind her bush. Heh. Nobody was going to find her. There were only four people left.

"MACCYY!!"

The eleven year old peeked out to see if anybody had found her yet. A group of three other girls were heading straight towards her. NO! She dove for a tree just as somebody approached.

SNAP!

There went her wand ... Crap. Mum was going to be mad.

Summer, 2067: Sinclair House

"Mummy!" seven year old Macy called.

"Yes, sweetie?" Angie asked, looking up from her copy of the Daily Prophet.

"What does this word mean?" the girl asked, holding up the dictionary. Angie sighed.

"Mace, the dictionary tells you what words mean," she said, pointing to the definition.

"Oh," Macy answered, blinking. Yeah. She still didn't get it. SIGH.

The young girl took the book over to the couch and sat down with it in her lap. She flipped through the pages, only to stare at it in frustration after a few minutes of fruitless searching. Mneh. "Mummy, what's a Mace?"

August, 2074: Sinclair House

Macy sat down across from her twin brother and propped her feet on the coffee table.

"Really Macy, Beauxbatons isn't that bad. I mean, you haven't even given it much of a chance..." Eden protested. She tuned him out, staring down at her nails. She really did need to repaint them. The orange was bugging her. Yeah, not one of her greatest--

"MACY!"

She looked up. "What?!" she huffed.

"Did you hear a word I just said?!" her brother asked, irritated.

"No."

"So you were ignoring me then?"

"Pretty much," she answered simply, and returned to picking at her nails.

September, 2074: Hogwarts

Macy's hand slipped out from under her chin, sending her head banging into the table.

"Owww," she moaned quietly.

She closed her eyes, resting her head on the desk for a moment. EUUURGH. She wanted to sleep. Not sit around and listen to some boring teacher drone on about muggles.

"Miss Sinclair!" the Professor exclaimed.

"What?"

"Lift your head up and pay attention!"

Macy raised her head up and slammed it back down on the table. "But. I. Hate. This. Class." she enunciated, banging her head on the table each time.

Muggle Studies was the worst class ever invented. Ever.

✂ 54: Dare
Fall, 2072: Beauxbatons

Macy glanced back nervously. Her friends gave her a thumbs-up and grinned.

Carefully, she snuck behind one of Beauxbatons' most arrogant, self-centered drama queens and took a breath.

Flinging her arms around Orabelle's waist, Macy laughed.

"HELLOOOOO BESTIE!"

Belle looked down in disgust. "Sinclair!" she squealed. "Get the bloody hell off me!" Who knew what kind of germs the girl was carrying?

Macy hugged her tighter, giving Belle a big kiss on the cheek before sprinting back towards her friends, who were roaring with laugher. "Alright, I did your stupid dare! One of you owes me five galleons!!"

December, 2068: the Sinclair's Holiday Party

"Macy, go upstairs and put your robes on," her mother instructed.

"But Muuum!" Macy whined.

"Go! Our guests are going to be here in ten minutes!"

The girl rushed up the stairs and slammed the bedroom door behind her. She pulled on the dress and looked down in disgust at the ruffles.

Macy tore it off and began rummaging around in her closet. The eight year old pulled out her panda costume and slipped it on. She skidded down the stairs just in time to meet their first guest. Her mother's jaw fell open in surprise.

Bye bye dress robes.

✂ 100: Homework
Summer, 2074: the Lane's House

For three weeks in July, Macy was sentenced to living with her Aunt Simone and their daughter Vienna. Which wouldn't have been so bad if Vienna wasn't the craziest six year old known to man.

"Hey Vienna!" Macy called. The kid came bounding down the stairs.

"Yeeees?"

"Do you wanna play a game?"

Vienna nodded. Grabbing the pile of homework left from Beauxbatons, Macy tossed a few into the fireplace and watched as they burned to ashes. Vienna followed suit.

It wasn't until an hour later that Aunt Simone caught them roasting marshmallows. At least homework was good for something.

January, 2073: Beauxbatons

Frost coated the windows and the snow was knee deep. Macy sat inside that evening with Leo by the fire.

"So you're really... leaving?" he asked. She nodded.

"Just like that?" Again, Macy nodded. Leo wrapped his arms around her, pressing his cheek against the side of her head. "I will just have to hang on to you until then, won't I?"

Tears streamed down the girl's face as he tilted her face upwards and kissed her gently on the lips.

"I love you," Leo whispered. Macy nodded.

"Love you too." And then he hugged her and didn't let go.

✂ 81: Depression
December, 2071: St. Mungo's

Eleven year old Macy lay in the hospital bed, curled up on her side and whining softly to herself.

I'm not dead yet. I'm not dead yet.

The doctors came and inspected her arms and hands. Her legs. Her feet. Then they drew on their little clipboards. They whispered things back and forth. They gave her medicine and told her to sleep.

"We think she's depressed," she heard them tell her parents.

"What? Depression?"

It was preposterous. She was eleven! But she was. She was depressed. Macy hated Beauxbatons. She hated it. She hated scissors. And she hated this place.

✂ 18. Whomping Willow
October, 2074: Hogwarts

"Hey Jamie!" Macy called.

"Yeah, wassup?"

"You wanna go to the whomping willow with me?"

Jamie looked at her like she was crazy. "What if we DIEEE?!"

Macy thought about this for a moment. Hmm. "Then we'll bring a peace offering. Let's goooo!"

"Wait! What's the peace offering then?"

Umm... "So how do you feel about cats?"

Twenty minutes later, Macy and Jamie were down by the whomping willow attempting to use a stuffed kitten as a peace offering.

"I don't think it likes our offering." said Macy.

"Me neither." Jamie agreed."Maybe the tree's more of a dog type?"

✂ 48: Leprechaun
June, 2074: the Lane's House

On this particular afternoon, Vienna was being particularly irritable.

"Mum said you have to play with me!"

"Simone said nothing of the sort," Macy retorted.

"Did too!" Vienna answered.

"No, I don't think she did."

"Yes. She did!"

"Look, it's not my fault you're an irritating little leprechaun," Macy replied dramatically.

Vienna's jaw fell. "I am NOT a leprechaun!"

"Check again, tiny."

"I. AM. NOT. A. LEPRECHAUN." the five year old screamed. Macy pulled a green bowler hat off the coat rack and set it on top of her younger cousin's head.

"Yes, you are." *smirk* And Macy wins again.

✂ 6. Divination
Summer, 2074: the Lane's House

Macy sat on the couch in the living room, awaiting her weird younger cousin's arrival. The five year old entered in a HEEEUGE set of sparkly purple robes, Aunt Simone's old pointed hat, and a pair of GINORMOUS round glasses, carrying a crystal ball.

"I am now going to tell your future!" the little girl said, throwing her arms up. Macy began to protest, but she was ignored as Vienna stared intently into the ball.

Obviously she hadn't gotten the memo that that stuff didn't work.

"I see youu... sitting on the couch!"

*FACEPALM* "You're going to suck at divination."

Summer, 2074: the Lane's House

The girls were sprawled out in the backyard, laid out in the grass by the clothesline and looking up at the clouds.

"And that one looks like a monkey with a hat!" said Vienna excitedly.

"Does not!" Macy protested. "Looks more like a chicken with its head cut off." She smirked.

"Nuh uh. That one looks like a dinosaur," the kid said, changing the topic.

It actually did a little bit.

"I bet my roar is better than yours," Macy challenged.

Vienna smirked. "ROOOOOOAAARR!!!"

Macy looked surprised. "Fine you win."

"But you didn't even try!"

"You still beat me." Unfortunately.

✂ 92: Chocolate
February, 2072: Beauxbatons

Macy sat by the fountain with a box of chocolates in her lap. Valentines Day.

Leo took the next seat and popped one of the chocolates into his mouth, sticking out his tongue.

"Hey!" she protested. "Miiiine," she said, tossing one into her own mouth.

Right on cue, Orabelle strode past. "Ew. You know, that stuff gives you awful acne," she said, disgusted. "And it's horribly fattening." Belle looked Macy over. "Not that you would mind." And at that, she strode off.

Macy rolled her eyes. "It tastes good," she said to no one in particular. Leo nudged her.

"Indeed."

March, 2073: Beauxbatons

The thirteen year old sat at her usual seat at the back of the room.

"WHYY, is charms so boring?" Macy muttered to herself.

Honestly, at this point she had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Well, might as well put yesterday's lesson to use.

She tore out a piece of parchment, scribbling a picture on it before folding it into a paper airplane. Carefully, Macy sent it flying into the back of Orabelle's head.

"OW!"

Belle unfolded it to find a pretty picture of herself being eaten by mermaids, complete with actual moving mouths.

See? Macy listened.

August, 2074: Diagon Alley

"Surely you're going to introduce yourself to the Headmaster," Mum had been saying.

"Mum. NO." Macy refused.

"But Mace, he needs to know who you are," Eden pointed out. To which the girl rolled her eyes.

"If he wants to know that bad, then he can come find me himself. Besides, the man has enough students to deal with." Hogwarts was a big school.

Macy ran off without the rest of them, quickly ducking into Flourish and Blotts. Whirling around, she came face to face with Hogwart's Headmaster.

"Ah, 'scuse me," she said, ducking behind a shelf. Oh the irony.

Five year old Macy poked her eyes up over the counter to watch her mother cook dinner. This small feat requiring her to stand on her tippy-toes.

"Mummy, can I be a veela when I grow up?" she asked, rocking from foot to foot.

Angie giggled at the sight of only the top half of her daughter's head reaching above the counter. "No sweetie," she sighed.

"Why not?"

"You have to be born a veela," her mother answered.

"Am I a veela?"

*DRAMATIC PAUSE*

"No, sweetie, you're not."

"Why not?"

*FACEPALM*

Summer 2074: the Lane's House

Macy lay in the guest bedroom, headphones jammed into her ears and volume all the way up.

An inaudible knock came at the door. No response. The door swung open to reveal Vienna holding a twister box.

The five year old stomped over, yanking the headphones away. "Hey!" Macy protested.

"You didn't answer!" Vienna pouted.

"It's not my fault I couldn't hear you over the sound of Zeppelin."

"Is too!"

Macy rolled her eyes and put her headphones back in. "I'm not playing Twister with you."

"You're such a bore!" Vienna yelled. Only to be ignored by the moody teenager.

April, 2075: Hogwarts

Macy sat on her bed in the dormitory, staring blankly at the wall. What on earth was she doing?!

I'm living in the present.

Indeed. She was living in the present by talking to herself in her head and staring at the wall. And what did this accomplish? Nothing but extreme boredom. Turning, the girl faced the opposite wall.

I am here. I am now. I am bored.

Turning once more, Macy fell onto the bed and buried her face in her pillow. "ZEN IS SOOOO DUMB," she moaned.

*SNORT* And they were also expecting her to go vegan. RIIIGHT.

June, 2068: Sinclair House

Macy lay sprawled out on the living room floor, looking at her copy of Tales of Beedle the Bard.

"Mummy? How come muggles have different stories than we do?"

Her mother poised thoughtfully. "They don't quite believe in the same things we do, sweetheart," she answered.

"Then what about wizards with muggle parents?"

Her mother wasn't sure how to answer. "I don't know."

"You and daddy are both magic. And I'm magic, so does that mean we're just magic? Or..."

Angie knew what she meant this time. "That means that you're a pureblood. Both mummy and daddy are magic."

"Oh."

August, 2075: Diagon Alley

Now in order to get to Diagon Alley, Macy and her cousin had to take a rather peculiar form of transportation, due to the fact that Vienna was allergic to Floo Powder. Rather than popping in somewhere, the two boarded a muggle train and headed for the Leaky Cauldron.

"So are we going shopping?" Vienna asked as they took a seat.
"I am," Macy answered.
"Then how come I have to go?"
"Auntie said so."

"But I thought you got your wand fixed, can't you just magic up your lizard eyes?" Vienna questioned.

LE SIGH. Ohh to be a muggle.
