The seven greenhouses of Hogwarts are a bridge between the castle and the magnificent grounds surrounding it. They are home to a wide variety of plants which, in the cases of Greenhouses 1-5, are organized neatly in various pots and grow boxes. If you look closely at the plants, you may occasionally find a name tag listing not the scientific name of the plant, but common names such as "Reginald" or "Phillip." In the cases of Greenhouses 6 and 7 the plants are more haphazardly placed and chaotically growing. Professor Lillian has yet to spend more time in those areas to tidy up, so please bear with the mess for a bit.

In each greenhouse there are shelves and cabinets containing empty pots, tools, and other basic necessities for working with plants. There are tables throughout and a large sink in one corner of each greenhouse, along with a compost pile behind Greenhouse 1 for unwanted clippings.

Greenhouses 1, 2, 3, and 6 are open for student use. Permission is required for access to 4, 5, and 7.
OOC: Here's a basic guide of what you might find in each greenhouse; please remember to play realistically based on your character's age and skill level!

At the heart of a recessed alcove in the Slytherin common room lies the Fountain, a masterpiece of dark stone and subtle enchantments. Carved from deep green marble, the basin is wide and low, its surface etched with curling runes in Olde English and Parseltongue. Rising from the center is a coiled serpent sculpted in such intricate detail that the scales seem to glisten in the flickering green light. Its eyes were fashioned from emeralds, and they glimmer faintly, seemingly following passersby with an unnerving awareness. From the serpent’s open mouth a steady ribbon of water, cascading down over its fangs into the pool below. Beneath the surface of the water, enchanted silver fish dart in lazy circles, vanishing and reappearing. At times, you may hear what sounds like faint whispering. Or was that a hiss?

The surrounding stonework is inlaid with subtle mosaic patterns of silver and jade, catching the glow from hovering lamps and reflecting it in rippling patterns across the ceiling. This allows students to sit on the curved stone ledge around the fountain if they wish to read, study, or simply let their thoughts wander, though many swear the serpent’s gaze feels just a bit too watchful for comfort. A small, enchantment-cooled cabinet sits beside the fountain, its dark wood exterior carved with subtle serpent motifs. Inside, shelves are neatly stocked with chilled butterbeer, pumpkin juice, and an assortment of snacks, both sweet and savory. These are perfect for late-night study sessions or quiet moments by the water.

The Slytherin common room lies deep within the dungeons with its tall, stony walls bathed in an otherworldly green glow from a combination of the lamps and the lake above. Low-backed black and emerald, button-tufted leather sofas cluster around dark wood tables and cupboards, while skulls and rich tapestries depicting the exploits of medieval Slytherins line the walls. Wizard’s Chess sets wait on a few tables while the air carries a chill that the grand fireplace - which was carved to look like intertwined snakes - cannot entirely dispel. The hearth burns with emerald embers that never fade.

Dim at first entry, the room reveals more details as your eyes adjust. The green-hued lamps hovering along the perimeter, snake-like carvings slithering around the walls, and the watchful portraits of Horace Slughorn and Severus Snape that hung there. Leather chairs and armchairs are arranged in intimate groups near the fires, while dark wooden tables offer space to study, read, or plot your next clever prank. On special occasions, Halloween for example, the room is dressed with pumpkins. Overall, the atmosphere remains one of austere grandeur, touched always with a sense of the deep and secretive.

// graphics by the talented Charely Potter //

Here, emerald light filters through the water, casting shadows upon the stone walls as whispers and ambitions mingle in the cool, calm air. Whether you’re studying, scheming or simply resting, this is where serpents find their coil.

Wizards to one side, witches to the other. The respective year’s quarters are marked by a gleaming plaque and guarded by enchantments that keep the spaces strictly separate by preventing witches from venturing into the wizards’ dorms and vice versa.

Within, emerald and silver four-posters await, each with a trunk space, a nightstand, and a curtain for privacy - close enough for camaraderie, but never cramped. The stone corridors wind from first-year doors near the grand staircase to the sixth-year rooms by the other end of the hall close to the common room’s entrance. The seventh years ascend to more spacious, distinguished quarters at the staircase’s crest.

Need a break from the noise? The study area is tucked away on the quieter side of the Common Room, a little distance from the games and general Gryffindor chaos. Sturdy oak tables and comfortable chairs make it a good spot to settle in with your books, catch up on homework, or prepare for that next pop quiz. A nearby bookshelf offers a few useful reads, so you might even manage to finish your work without making the trip down to the library.

The area has been charmed to keep things quieter than the rest of the Common Room, so please be mindful of those trying to concentrate. If you’re here to study, you’ll find a little peace and quiet. If you’re here to chat, perhaps save the louder celebrations for elsewhere. After all, even Gryffindors occasionally need a place where their thoughts can be heard over the noise.
The Gryffindor dormitories are located at the top of the spiral staircase, with the Wizards’ dorms to the left and the Witches’ dorms to the right. Rooms are divided by year, with each door marked by a wooden plaque. Simply taking the stairs will lead you to the appropriate room. Inside, you’ll find cozy four-poster beds dressed in gold sheets, pillows, and bright red velvet coverings, with matching red silk curtains that can be drawn for a little privacy. Each bed has its own nightstand, while magical flames in fireproof, shatterproof jars provide a warm glow. Shelves and closets are also available for clothes and a few reminders of home.

Please stick to your assigned dorm room, though visiting friends or siblings in other years is perfectly fine. The dormitories are not co-ed, and strict magical barriers are in place to keep it that way. Any student attempting to sneak up the stairs meant for the opposite dorm will find themselves sliding right back down. Apparently, the stairs have little patience for rule-breakers.

Warm, lively, and unmistakably Gryffindor, the Common Room is tucked away behind the Fat Lady's portrait and serves as the House's main gathering place. Scarlet and gold can be found throughout the circular room, from the furnishings and tapestries to the smaller decorative touches scattered around the space. Comfortable seating fills much of the room, with sofas, armchairs, and beanbags gathered around the central fireplace. Tables offer somewhere to study or catch up on work, while the quieter corners are perfect for anyone in need of a little less noise.

The dormitory staircases can be found toward the back of the room, leading students up to their respective quarters.

There is rarely a dull moment here, whether students are swapping stories after dinner, arguing over a game, cramming for an exam, or simply taking advantage of a comfortable place to sit. For Gryffindors, this is the place to unwind, gather, and feel at home.

Once inside, you will find tables and chairs lining one wall, bookshelves along the far wall, and a couple of trunks set against another wall. The bookshelves contain a variety of Charms textbooks to provide instruction on any Charm you wish to practice. The trunks are charmed to provide any object you require; simply think of the item you wish to practice your spells on, and when you open the trunk, that item will be there.

All of the items and furniture in the room are not to leave this room. Should you try to take a book or item out, they will vanish and reappear back in their designated spot.
If you require assistance, Professor Edgecombe’s office is across the hall.

Located within the Defense Against the Dark Arts section of the middle floor, and beside the Dueling Arena, lies The Reflection Room. It is a magical training chamber designed to test far more than raw spellcasting ability.

As participants progress through the chamber, they will find themselves confronted by mirrors which line the walls from floor to ceiling, though the reflections within do not behave as they should. That is, each possesses a mind entirely its own. A distorted version of themselves moulded by fear, insecurity, anger, ambition, or buried thoughts. The reflection may whisper unsettling truths, attempt to deceive and distract, so they can suddenly lash out with magic. Unlike ordinary reflections, these behave as real duelists would - casting defensive charms, counter - curses, shields, and retaliatory spells with unsettling precision. Each bit of movement, hesitation, and weakness is studied and spells are returned with precision to the student. Fear not! These will never be of the detrimental sort - Tickling Charm, Happy Feet Charm and so forth. The effects never last more than a minute as they lift automatically, leaving students free to recover. And should you collapse on the floor, it is Charmed to cushion that fall leaving one without injury.

The Reflection Room serves as both a defensive exercise and a lesson in self-awareness. While spellwork and quick reflexes are important, students must also demonstrate emotional control, composure under pressure, adaptability, and the ability to think clearly while confronted by their own inner turmoil - all of which former DADA professor - Dhruv Khanna - emphasised on.

Professor Goth encourages students to approach the chamber not as a contest of power alone, but as an opportunity to better understand themselves as witches and wizards. Precision, restraint, awareness, and trust in one’s allies are expected throughout the exercise. Those who emerge successful will not simply have defeated an opponent; they will have learned how to stand firm against the parts of themselves most capable of leading them astray.

Once you are welcomed inside, you will see that the office is minimally decorated. The dark wood desk and a tall, comfortable chair stand in the center. A pair of chairs for visitors to sit in are placed in front of the desk. Bookshelves are set on the wall behind the desk, crammed full with a variety of books about charms research and development.
The desk itself is not always perfectly neat, depending on if the professor is grading homework, planning a lesson, or reading a book, but he always knows where everything is. One thing that is always found on his desk, though, is a framed photo of his son.
Whether you have an appointment or stopped by on a whim, please knock, and Professor Edgecombe will be with you shortly.
