Chapter One - The Sun Shines Until The Clouds Roll By June 1978
Izabella lay on her back, the grass swaying around her as she closed her eyes and stretched out her arms. She sighed deeply, absorbing the sun and guiltily enjoying her free period, disregarding the pile of school books that lay beside her.

A splash of water landed on her nose and she frowned, wiping at her face with her sleeve. Another, larger fall of water splashed her cheek and she sat up in annoyance. The sun was still beating down gloriously and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. She glanced up into the tree above her but the leaves were completely parched. Frowning deeply she looked towards the lake but she was sat too far away for it to be the Giant Squid that was splashing her.
There was a stifled laugh from behind her and she sighed as she turned around and glared at the intruders.

“Mature!” she yelled sarcastically, as James and Sirius burst into a fit of laughter, clutching at each other for support as they mimicked her looking about for a sign of rain. Remus rolled his eyes and joined Izabella underneath the tree as she leant against the trunk, glaring at Sirius and James. Peter sat down on the grass, cross legged, and giggled admiringly.

“Sorry Izzy. It was just too tempting.” Sirius said, grinning as he flopped down beside her and shoved her playfully, his brown hair falling across his handsome face.

Izabella raised an eyebrow at him and he looked back at her with wide, innocent eyes. She laughed softly and shook her head in fondness.
“Where's Lily?” she asked.

“Probably talking to Sniv-” James stopped and rolled his eyes. “Severus.” he continued, overly gracious.

Izabella chuckled.
“Call him Snivellus all you like in front of me.” she said shrugging slightly. James suddenly began fiddling with his hair and Izabella rolled her eyes, she looked towards the castle and was not surprised to see Lily stomping towards them, her fiery hair blowing from the speed she was walking at.

Lily threw down her bag and collapsed onto the floor.
“That was the hardest exam ever.” she complained. Sirius yawned and stretched out across the grass, resting his head on Izabella's leg.

“I thought it was easy. Wouldn't you agree James?” he said, twisting his head to smirk at his best friend. James grinned but didn't reply as he caught sight of Lily's deathly stare. She pulled out the exam paper and sat, reading through the questions and cross referencing it with her textbooks, sighing occasionally.

“I don't know what you are all complaining about.” Izabella said moodily, folding her arms. “You never have to do another exam again.”
James and Sirius beamed, Remus smiled at her sympathetically.

“It will be so boring here without you lot.” said Izabella moaned, pouting her bottom lip slightly.
“Don't worry Izzy. You've got Regulus.” Sirius said smirking. Izabella shoved him and his head rolled off her legs. He turned onto his front and beamed up at her and she laughed, until he looked at James mischievously.

“We need to do something. It's our last day.” he said, as James' eyes sparkled.
“I like your thinking Padfoot.”
“Why, thank you Prongs.”

They had both jumped up and were looking excited. Izabella chuckled and looked up at Sirius with a smile on her face. He had rolled his sleeves up, revealing his strong, muscular arms and his tie was loosely hanging around his neck. His hair fell perfectly across his tanned face and his dark eyes shone enthusiastically.

“Come on Remus.” Sirius said as he picked up his bag and threw it over his shoulder.
Remus sighed and stood up.

“Well they can't expel us on the last day.” he said, smiling at Lily and Izabella as they chuckled. Peter had already moved over to stand by James and was bouncing on the balls of his feet.

James leant down and kissed Lily's cheek softly.
“I'll see you later.” he said as she smiled up at him.
“Bye,” said Lily. “And don't do anything too dangerous.”

“When have we ever done anything dangerous?” Sirius said innocently. He winked at Izabella then rushed off with James and the others, their heads bent low and talking in whispering voices.

Izabella laughed as she watched them leave, wondering what they'd come up with for their grand finale. She glanced at Lily and rolled her eyes as she noticed she was still flicking through textbooks.

“Lily Evans! If you don't put that exam away I will burn it.” Izabella warned in a dark voice. Lily rolled her eyes but stowed the paper in her bag and shuffled to join Izabella by the trunk of the tree. They sat in silence for a while, enjoying the heat and smiling as the sun kissed their pale skin.

“I can't believe you won't be here next year.” said Izabella quietly.
Lily turned, leaning her shoulder against the tree and looked at Izabella.

“Don't worry Iz. We'll come and see you when you're in Hogsmede and you can come and stay with me at Christmas.” she said comfortingly.
“It won't be the same though. You have James now.” Izabella said quietly.
“Izabella. You will always be my best friend.”

Lily nudged her gently and Izabella turned to smile at her.
“You're so lucky to have him. He really loves you.”
Lily looked down at the floor, a small smirk crawling across her face. Izabella smiled slightly then sighed.

“Don't worry. Sirius will grow up soon.” Lily said gently.
“I'm sick of just being that girl he takes out every so often.”
“You're not-”
“I am Lily,” Izabella said in a tired voice. “He's never called me his girlfriend. Ever.”

She gazed out across the grounds of Hogwarts towards the darkness of the Forest and sighed. Lily placed a hand on her shoulder gently. Izabella turned back to her friend and smiled.

“We had better get back up to the castle. I haven't packed yet.”
“Why do you leave everything to the last minute?” Lily complained with a sigh. Izabella grinned and shoved her books back into her bag, swinging it on over her shoulder.

The two girls started to walk back in the direction of the castle, strolling down the edge of the Lake.

Suddenly Lily gasped and threw her bag on the floor.
“What?” Izabella said in a panicked voice, looking about them and withdrawing her wand.

“I think I answered number 10 wrong!” Lily said in a frantic voice, searching through her bag for the question paper. Izabella stared at her incredulously then pushed her, so she toppled head first into the water. As she surfaced, coughing and spluttering, she glared up at Izabella who was roaring with laughter.

“Izabella! I'm soaking!”
“You need to lighten up Lil.” she said grinning as she threw her bag down on the grass then ran up to the edge of the water, curling up into a ball just before she hit the surface of the lake. Lily was hit with a wave of water and scowled as Izabella's head popped up from beneath the water.

“You're an idiot.” Lily said, rolling her eyes, but a smile was creeping onto her face. Izabella laughed and splashed the surface of the water at Lily.

After they had fooled around for a while, they swam to the egde of the lake and pulled themselves out, bursting into a fit of giggles as they looked at each other. Their long hair was dripping continuously, plastered to their faces and their school uniform clung tightly to them and was heavy with water.

They picked up their bags and carrying their sodden shoes in their hands, walked back up the castle, dripping a trail of water the whole way. They shivered slightly as they walked out of the sunshine and into the Entrance Hall. Izabella stopped and frowned as she caught sight of a group of people standing by the gem-filled hourglasses.

“Sev?” she called as she caught sight of her brother. He turned and Izabella groaned as she noticed who was accompanying him. “Mother what are you doing her?” she snapped.

The small figure of Eileen Prince turned towards her and fixed her with a stern look. A man dressed in fine robes raised his eyebrow slightly and walked behind Izabella's mother as the three of them made their way over to the soaking wet girls. The man pierced her with a curious look and Izabella looked at her mother intently, feeling uncomfortable.

“I came to see my children if that's alright with you.” Eileen said, pursing her lips at Izabella's appearance. “What have you been doing?” she said, casting a reproachful, almost disgusted, look at Lily.

“You'll see us tomorrow! And we went in the lake.” Izabella said with a shrug. Severus rolled his eyes and Izabella glared at her brother. “What? It's a hot day.”

The blonde man chuckled quietly and Izabella looked at Severus questioningly.
“This is Abraxas Malfoy.” Eileen announced, smiling widely. Izabella accepted his hand shake.

“Oi. Izzy, Lily.” Sirius shouted from the top of the stairs. He bounded down the steps, then stopped when he saw them. Eileen looked furious and Severus had rolled his eyes in annoyance.

“What?” Izabella shouted, oblivious to the reactions around her.
“Erm... Nothing.” he said stratching his head nervously. Lily rolled her eyes.
“I'll see you later Iz.” she said, flashing a smile and nodding her head slightly at Eileen then rushing up the stairs and shoving Sirius along the corridor, mummering to him under her breath.

“Well...” Izabella said awkwardly. “I need to go and pack-”
“I told you to do that yesterday.” Severus said firmly.
“Well I didn't.” Izabella said, rolling her eyes and squeezing some water out of her hair absentmindedly. Malfoy and Eileen exchanged a look and Izabella frowned.

“What?” she demanded.
“I have some news for you both.” Eileen said quietly. Izabella's forehead creased and she looked at Severus; he looked just as confused as she did.
“Come.” Malfoy said in a deep voice, leading them to a classroom by the Entrance Hall. They made their way inside and Severus and Izabella sat down opposite their mother as Malfoy leant against the wall behind her.

Hey Jazz. At first as I was reading this, I thought it was starting with a flesh back. Nice work here Jazz. The story is easy and fun to read. And you did a good job of making me want to keep reading it. I'm anxious to read what prank The Marauders just pulled off, and I'm anxious to find out why Eileen and Abraxas Malfoy are doing there.
Great start Jazz. I'll be watching for your next.

Chapter Two - Bad News, Good News June 1978
“Look... This is isn't easy but... Your father has passed away.”
Severus and Izabella stared at their mother for a moment then a look passed between the siblings.

“He's... dead?” Severus said, in a croaky voice. Eileen nodded then looked towards Izabella.

“I know he wasn't your real father but-”
Severus snorted loudly.
“He practically was. He was a better father to her than he ever was to me.”
Izabella looked down guiltily. That wasn't her fault.

Malfoy placed a hand on Severus' shoulder lightly.
“It's okay to be upset son.”
“Upset? I'm glad.” he replied harshly.
“Severus!” Izabella said frowning at him.

“Well he wasn't exactly father of the year was he?” Severus said, getting angry.
“He can't hurt you ever again Severus. He can't hurt any of us.” Eileen said gently, reaching out and holding his hand tightly. Severus pulled away and stood up, pacing the small room.

Izabella wrapped her arms around her chest and shuddered. Her clothes were still wet and she was beginning to freeze.

“You will come home on the train tomorrow and the funeral will be the day after.” Eileen said quietly.
“How did he die?” Severus asked.
“Natural causes.” Eileen said calmly.

Izabella turned to look at Malfoy and for a moment he gazed at Eileen, then turned to Izabella and smiled encouragingly. A small crease appeared in Izabella's forehead, then she stood up quickly.

“Can I go now?” she asked in a quiet voice.
“Of course.” Eileen said.

She nodded slightly then walked out of the room, feeling as though she wasn't really awake, like she was drifting. She heard her name but carried on walking down the gloomy corridor to the dungeons and the Slytherin common room, her surroundings relflecting her inner feeling on oncoming gloom and doom.

“Izabella!”

She turned finally to see Severus, hurrying after her. He looked down at her with concerned eyes, the eyes he rarely showed her when they were not at home and certainly not in school where his friends might see he actually cares.

“Are you okay?” he asked gently.
“I'm fine.” she said, shrugging slightly. “He wasn't my dad.”

“But you don't know who you're dad is so-”
“I know that Severus.” she snapped, glaring at him. She sighed. “I'm going for a shower.” She turned around and walked back along the corridor towards the Prefect's bathroom.

She turned on the shower, peeled off her wet clothes and stepped under the hot water, allowing it to engulf her and wash away all of her thoughts, temporarily at least.

Chapter Three - Requests and SuspicionsJune 1978
Izabella's black hair was still slightly damp from her shower, falling past her waist in loose curls. Her uniform had been washed and smelt fresh as Izabella leant her elbow on the table, her head in her hand. Her other hand held her fork, fiddling absentmindedly with the food on the plate in front of her. The Great Hall was buzzing excitedly at the prospect of the summer holidays, but Izabella wasn't in the mood to join the celebrations.

Suddenly Regulus Black plonked down on the bench next to her and he looked at her sympatheticly.

“Are you okay?” he asked in a quiet voice.
“I'm fine.” Izabella said, sitting up and pushing her plate away from her.
“Severus told me... About Tobias.”
“Well he shouldn't have because it is none of your business.” Izabella snapped, turning to scowl at him.

He placed a hand on her arm.
“It must be hard, loosing the only man who acted like a father to you.”

“Oi Regulus. Get your filthy hands off her.” Sirius said, striding along the Slytherin table and glaring at his younger brother, James right behind him.
Izabella rolled her eyes and groaned inwardly.

“I was just being nice.” Regulus said defensively.
“Well go be nice to someone else.” Sirius growled, shoving his brother. Regulus turned to Izabella.

“If you need to talk, you know where I am.”
“Right.” Izabella said, yawning slightly as she played with a piece of her hair distractedly. Sirius watched his brother leave then sat down next to her, James on her other side.

“What was that about?” he demanded.
“Nothing.” Izabella said with a sigh. Sirius narrowed his eyes for a moment then shrugged.

“Fancy sneaking into Hogsmede with us?” he said grinning.
“Not particulary.”
“Aw go on Izzy.” Sirius pleaded. “You're the best at a Disillusionment Charm.”
“No I'm not, Lily is.”

“Yeah but... Well Lily won't do it will she?” James said, looking over to the Gryffindor table for any sign of his girlfriend.
Izabella raised an eyebrow at him and he grinned.

“Please. We're having a party tonight.” James said, leaning closer towards her and lowering his voice.
“Where?”
“The Room of Requirement.” said Sirius proudly.
Izabella rolled her eyes.
"That's your big plan?"
"It's a great idea!" James protested.

“What if you get caught?”
“What if we don't?”

Izabella laughed slightly and looked at the eager faces either side of her.
“Okay fine. I'll do it.”
“Excellent.” Sirius said beaming. He kissed her cheek then they both stood up.

“Spread the word about the party. But don't invite Regulus.” Sirius said with a scowl. “We'll come and get you later.”

With a wink and a grin, Sirius sped out of the Great Hall, James following him, and they met Remus and Peter at the doorway. All four of them turned and beamed at Izabella then rushed off, their heads bent low together.

Izabella chuckled as she watched them, then stood up and wandered back to the Slytherin common room. Perhaps a party would be good for her. She might be able to stop thinking for awhile.

She couldn't stop wondering about Abraxas Malfoy and his sudden involvment with her family.

She had a squirming feeling that Tobias Snape hadn't died of natural causes.

This is very interesting and I'm super curious to know how Tobias died and who's Izabella's father! Very good storyline!

Chapter Four - A Trip To Hogsmede June 1978
Izabella glanced in the mirror and ruffled her long, dark curly hair. Her white dress clung to her attractively, falling just above the knee and baring some of her back. It was sleeveless and covered her chest, the red heels elogating her thin legs and matching her red lipstick.

Suddenly the door to her bedroom opened and her room mates ran in, giggling amongst themselves.

“You're ready early. For once.” one of the girls commented, her blonde hair neatly folded into rollers on top of her head.
“I said I'd help Sirius and James set up.” Izabella replied, picking up her wand and slipping it into the waistband of her underwear beneath her dress.

A tanned girl with brown hair sighed dramatically and fell onto her bed, running a brush through her straight hair.
“James Potter is so gorgeous.” she swooned.
“Shame he's with that Evans girl.”
“Shame he's a Gryffindor.”

The girls laughed loudly and Izabella smiled slightly.

“It's not a problem with Sirius, at least he comes from a Slytherin family.” said another girl to Izabella. Her hair was unnaturally red, in sharp contrast with her pale white skin.

Izabella shrugged slightly.

“Doesn't make a difference to me. If they look like Sirius, I wouldn't care if he was a Hufflepuff.” she said with a wink. The girls laughed racously and Izabella grinned. “I'll see you at the party.”

“Bye Izabella!” they all called as she closed the bedroom door and descended the stairs into the Slytherin common room. The few people who were still around glanced over at Izabella as she passed, their mouths dropping open.

Izabella didn't notice the reactions of those around her as she strutted across the common room, her heels clicking against the stone floor and she almost made it before-

“Izabella.” came a firm voice from behind her. She stopped and groaned, turning to face Severus and his friends as they approached her.
“And where do you think you are going?”

“To the library.” she said sarcastically. Severus raised his eyebrow and grabbed her wrist.
“You are not going to that party. Get back upstairs and put some decent clothes on.”

Izabella yanked her hand out of his grasp.
“Stop being a prat.” she moaned.

“Izabella, I told you that you couldn't go.”
“You are not my father Severus! Just because Tobias is dead it does not mean that you are the head of the family. Leave me alone.” she yelled.

A first year appeared at her elbow and coughed nervously.

“Excuse me? Izabella Prince?” he said timidly.
Izabella looked down at him and frowned.
“What?”

“Sirius Black and James Potter are outside, asking for you.”
Izabella smiled at him.
“Thanks.” she said as he ran off quickly and Izabella turned back to her brother. “Have a good night.” she said, grinning.

“Izabella.” Severus said, following her and pulling her to one side.
“If you get caught-”
“I won't!”

“Stay away from Sirius Black. He'll just hurt you.” he warned.
“He's a pureblood. Surely that's all that matters isn't it?” she said, staring up at Severus and arching an eyebrow slightly. He sighed and released his grip on her arm.

“Fine. You won't see him next year anyway.” he said, slightly triumphant, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. Izabella rolled her eyes and started towards the door of the common room.

“Hey! Izabella!”
She turned, her hand on the door handle, to look back at the group of Slytherins impatiently.

“I'll be here waiting when you get back.” one of them said, winking grotesquely.
“Shut it Avery.” she said disgustedly, yanking open the door and glaring at them before stepping out of the common room.

Sirius and James were hovering in the corridor, dressed smartly, for once, James carrying an old tattered cloak.

“Finally.” James said, rolling his eyes. Sirius raised his eyebrows slightly and cleared his throat.
“You look, erm, nice.” he said. Izabella laughed as she approached them, tottering slightly on her heels.
“Thanks.” she smiled.

“What took you so long?” James complained as he threw the cloak over them all, crouching so that their feet wouldn't show.
“My brother.” she said in a dark voice. Sirius and James nodded understandingly and they continued in silence until they reached the statue of the old one-eyed witch.

Glancing about the corridor, James tapped the witch with his wand, mumbling under his breath, then lead them into the passage way behind it.

They removed the cloak, James stowing it beneath his shirt.
“Wait. Light your wands.” Izabella said and the boys complied, Sirius' eyes bulging as Izabella bared her thigh and extracted her wand. James rolled his eyes and continued down the unsteady pathway as Sirius grinned at Izabella.

“What?” she said, a smile creeping across her face.
“You look really beautiful.” he said gently. He leant forward and brushed his lips against hers, placing his hands on her waist.

“Is this you asking me to be your date tonight?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“If you're lucky... Maybe.” he said with a shrug, moving his lips to her jawline.
“Will you two save that for later please?” James demanded, returning back to the entrance looking annoyed. Sirius grinned and lifted his wand aloft as he guided Izabella down the passage.

“Where are Remus and Peter?” Izabella asked.
“Helping Lily to decorate the Room of the Requirement.”

“Where does Lily think you are?” Izabella asked, grinning slightly.
“In the kitchens.” James replied quietly, turning to glare at Izabella for a moment. She chuckled and the journey was quiet until they reached the hatch that would lead them into Honeydukes.

James and Sirius turned to face Izabella and she lifted her wand, tapping their head slightly and muttering an incantation. They both shivered then became camoflauged against the background of the wall. Izabella tapped her own head and she felt as though water was trickling down her back. She shuddered and lifted her arm to see that the spell had worked and she was blending with her surroundings.

James pushed open the door and crawled through into the cellar of Honeydukes. Sirius left the passageway then turned to help Izabella up. She sighed and dusted herself off then crept slowly behind the two boys as they made their way up the stairs into the main shop. Hogsmede was quiet as they slipped open the door and edged out into the deserted street. Relaxing slightly once they were outside, they continued to the Three Broomsticks, making their way around the back of the noisy pub to the door that lead to the store room.

“Put the money over there Sirius.” James whispered and Izabella saw a shimmering outline of Sirius as he emptied a bag of coins out on top of a shelf by the door.

“Duplicate the boxes.” Sirius suggested, moving to stand by James as he waved his wand at the crates of butterbeer and firewhiskey. Suddenly more boxes appeared in the room, identical to the originals. Izabella rushed over and placed the Disillusionment charm over the crates. Then she levitated them in front of her and backed out of the pub into the warm street and waited for Sirius and James as they checked for any sign they had been there.

“Lets go.” Sirius mumbled as he emerged from the doorway. The three teenagers returned back to Honeydukes and hurried back into the cellar and through the hatch into the passage. With a sigh of relief they walked back until they reached the witch statue.

“This way.” James mummered as they walked down the empty corridors, leading them down a hidden hallway emerging from an archway right opposite the Room of Requirement.

Hurrying past the wall three times, they watched as the door appeared then rushed inside, relieved.

Chapter Five - A Cause For Celebration June 1978
Izabella dumped the boxes in a corner and smoothed out her dress as she looked about the room. There were sparkling lights hanging from the ceiling above a large dancefloor. A few seats and tables were dotted around the edges and across the wall opposite her, there was a long table filled with plates of food, where Sirius was now placing the numerous bottles they had brought with them.

Lily was wearing a floaty green dress which fell to her knees and swished behind her as she walked. The straps were thin and the neckline modest, her hair falling across her shoulders in gentle waves. She raised an eyebrow at James, her hands on her hips.

“You got all that from the kitchens?” she said.
“Sirius and Izabella made me go to Hogsmede.” James said, shrugging. Lily laughed and reached up to kiss his cheek. James grinned and rushed over to help Sirius unload the boxes of drinks.

The girls from Izabella's room were the first to arrive, giggling endlessly. Their hair was neatly placed in curls as tight as their dresses. They all beamed at James who welcomed them graciously until Lily dragged him away.

A group of seventh years arrived and looked about, nodding in an impressed manner. A tall blonde boy, Jack Ferrell, whom Izabella had once gone on a Hogsmede visit with made a beeline for Izabella until Sirius, glaring furiously, stepped in front of her and wrapped an arm around her waist tightly. Izabella rolled her eyes, but a small smile crept across her face as Sirius pulled her close against him and led her to the dancefloor.

The party was soon in full swing and as Sirius was with James and Remus, Izabella took a seat at the edge of the room, staring into the bottom of her glass with distant eyes.

“I must say, this is a decent party. Not bad for a bunch of Gryffindors.” Regulus commented as he took a seat beside Izabella. She looked up at him and sighed.

“I'd get out of here if I were you.” she said, taking a swig of her firewhiskey, her face screwing up slightly at the burn in her throat. “Sirius will kill you if he finds you here.”
Regulus rolled his eyes.

“I'm not afraid of my brother. I just wanted to check you were okay, as the only Slytherin here.”
Izabella sighed and arched an eyebrow at him.

“Severus sent you didn't he?”
“No-”
“Well you can tell him I'm fine.” she said firmly, standing up. Regulus followed her and grabbed her wrist.

“Izabella he is just concerned.”
“I don't care.”

“What's going on?” Lily asked, her forehead creasing. Regulus dropped Izabella's wrist.

“I'll see you later.” he mumbled as he sank into the shadows and left the party. Izabella sighed and refilled her glass.

“Izabella.” Lily said, her arms folding across her chest. Izabella rolled her eyes and returned to her seat, Lily sitting beside her.

“Tobias is dead.” she mumbled. Lily's eyebrows shot up, then her expression became gentle and she leant forward.
“Are you okay?” she asked quietly. Izabella nodded, then shrugged slightly and took a sip of her drink.
“I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel.”

Lily put a hand on her arm and squeezed gently.
“He was practically your father. You're allowed to be upset.”
“But after everything he did... He wasn't exactly a nice man was he?” Izabella sighed.

“How's Sev taking it?”
“He's glad. I've never seen him more happy.” Izabella said with a shrug. “He thinks he's the head of the family now and finds it necessary to try and control me.”

Lily rolled her eyes.
“He's always been like that. He's just protective.”
Izabella nodded slightly.

“I know... It's just-”

“Everything okay girls?” James asked as the Mauraders bounded towards them. Lily turned and opened her mouth, but Izabella jumped up and plastered a smile on her face.

“Everything's wonderful. Great party.” she said grinning.
Lily glared at her, but kept quiet and Izabella smiled gratefully as she left to dance with Sirius.

As the morning began to rise, people began to creep back to their dormitories until it was just Izabella, Lily and the four boys left.
Remus waved his wand and collected all of the empty bottles, placing them into the bag that James was holding. He tied a knot in the top, then placed it in the corner.

“The House Elves will come and tidy up.” he said stretching.
“James! You made the mess, you should tidy it up.”
“They offered to clear up.” James said defensively. Lily rolled her eyes and Izabella chuckled. She removed her shoes, rubbing the bottom of her feet as they throbbed painfully.

“I can't believe we're leaving school.” Lily said quietly, looking about the room with a small smile on her face. The others grinned and Izabella sighed slightly, standing up and picking up her shoes.

“I'll see you on the train.” she said, making her way to the door.
“I'll walk you back.” Sirius said, appearing by her side. Quietly, they slipped out of the Room of Requirement and made their way along the empty corridors. They walked in silence until they were in the dungeons and outside of the Slytherin common room.

“Goodnight.” Izabella said, turning to smile at Sirius. He grabbed her waist and pulled her towards him, wrapping his arms around her tightly and pressing his lips to hers. After a long moment he released her and she smiled.

“What was that for?” she asked.
“Because, you're beautiful.” he grinned. Izabella laughed and kissed his lips once more.

“Goodnight Sirius.”
“'Night.” he said, leaning against the wall. She turned as she pushed open the door, smiled then carefully closed the door and crept across the Slytherin common room.

“It's past two in the morning.” came a voice from the chair by the fire. Izabella jumped and dropped her shoes, causing them to clatter as they made contact with the polished floor.

“Severus! You scared the life out of me!” she complained, walking over to him and glaring at the group by the fire.
“The train leaves at eleven. You better not miss it Izabella.” Severus warned.
“You're all still up!” she complained.

“But we didn't leave the common room.”
“Regulus did.” Izabella said, grinning at the annoyed looks on their faces.
“You can join us if you want.” Avery said, smirking. Izabella rolled her eyes and picked up her shoes.

She made her way to the door that led to her bedroom and creeped in. The girls in her room were still awake, chatting about the party and giggling.

Izabella smiled at their jokes as she pulled on her pyjamas, then crawled into bed and fell into a deep yet uneasy sleep.

Chapter Six - By The Lake Once More June 1978
“Izabella! Wake up.”
“Go away.” Izabella grumbled, rolling over in bed and burying her face in the blankets. Suddenly, a pillow hit her forcefully on the head and she sat up, glaring at the girls in her bedroom.

“What was that for?” she complained, rubbing her head and yawning.
“You're going to miss the train.”
“We've got ages!” Izabella retorted.

With a sigh and a dramatic roll of their eyes, the girls waved their wands at their trunks and followed their luggage out of the room and down into the common room. Izabella stretched and slowly climbed out of bed.

She groaned slightly at the reflection in the mirror then ran a brush through her hair, pulling it up into a ponytail. She yanked off her pyjamas and threw them into her messy trunk, pulling on a pair of jeans and a top.

She glanced about the room, then sat on her trunk and with some effort, and managed to close the lid. She waved her wand then made her way to the common room, dumping her trunk in the corner where the House Elves would take them to the carriages.

“You're finally awake then.” Severus said, arching an eyebrow at her. She rolled her eyes.
“I've been up for ages.” she lied. “I'm going to get breakfast.”

She left the common room and made her way through the dungeons to the Great Hall. Spotting Lily at the Gryffindor table, she walked over, plonking down next to her and grabbing a piece of toast. Lily looked up from her book and laughed slightly.

“Sorry, are you in Gryffindor now?” she asked. Izabella grinned.
“What we doing in the holidays then?”

At that moment, James, Sirius, Remus and Peter joined them at the table.
“Get back to your own table you traitor.” Sirius said, grinning at her. She rolled her eyes.

“Fancy doing something tomorrow?” James suggested. Lily looked at Izabella who glared back.
“What's going on?” Sirius asked, looking between the two girls suspiciously. Izabella sighed.

“It's Tobias' funeral tomorrow.” she said quietly.
“He's dead?” Sirius said frowning.
“That's why my mother was here the other day.”

There was a silence before Sirius reached across the table and squeezed her hand gently.
“Are you-”
“I'm fine.” Izabella snapped, pulling her hand out of his grasp forcefully. The others exchanged a look whilst Izabella took a long drink.

“Tomorrow... Afterwards, you can come and stay at mine?” Lily said gently. James looked at Lily and narrowed his eyes slightly then sighed. Izabella smiled.
“Thanks Lily.” she said gratefully. “Well I'll see you on the train.” she said as she jumped up and left the Great Hall quickly.

She turned right, leaving the castle and going out into the warm grounds. The early morning sun was shining brightly and as Izabella reached the lake, she smiled at the orange glow that was bouncing off the surface. She sat down at the edge and rolled the bottom of her jeans up so that she could dangle her feet in the cooling water.

She smiled and leant her hands behind her, leaning back and letting the sun warm her face. She was still for a long time before there was a sound behind her and she turned to see everyone leaving the castle.

Izabella stood up slowly and stretched, then looked up at Hogwarts. The next time she returned, it would be alone. No Lily, no Sirius, no Severus.

With a sigh, she joined the procession of students, looking for the red hair and hoping that the summer would be one to remember.

Eeek! I love the story, Jazz! So sorry it's taken me a while to get here And I promise I'll be keeping up with the posts, even if I don't comment each time; I'm a tad bit busy these days. I'm curious to see what Abraxas has to do with her family now, how TObias really died (because I have a feeling it wasn't natural causes either), who her father is, annddd how everything will pan out.

Can't wait for more! Please PAMS!

Chapter Seven - A Chance Meeting June 1978
The train pulled into the London station and Izabella stood up and stretched, following Lily and the Mauraders out of the compartment and down onto the noisy bustling platform. Children ran into their parents loving arms and friends embraced, making plans for the summer excitedly.

Leaning against a wall and looking bored, Severus stood waiting for her, both their trunks already on a luggage trolley. Izabella grabbed Lily's arm and pulled her into a hug.

“I'll see you tomorrow.” Lily whispered in her ear. “It will be fine.”

Izabella smiled at Lily's reassuring voice then made her way over to her brother. He sighed pointedly at the delay, then lead the way towards the wall that would take them to Muggle London. They waited for the signal, then fell through the barrier casually. Izabella stumbled slightly as she made contact with someone on the other side, falling against them before she could regain her balance.

“Sorry Miss, I didn't see you there.” a velvety, smooth voice said as his hands held under her elbows and steadied her on her feet. As she stood and turned towards him she blushed slightly.

“Sorry, it was my fault.” she said smiling gratefully up at the well-known face of Lucius Malfoy. He was, after all, the most sought after bachelor in the Wizarding World. Amongst the giggling girls, he was a popular topic in the Slytherin common room. His resemblence to his father was unnvering, until his grey eyes warmed as he smiled at her.

“Lucius! Nice to see you.” Severus said as they shook hands.
“Likewise Severus. I had forgotten that it was the last day of Hogwarts. How does it feel?” he asked grinning.
“I think I might miss it actually.”

Izabella rolled her eyes at her brother.
“I'll trade with you anyday.” she grumbled. Lucius looked to her and laughed charmingly. Severus glared towards his sister slightly then turned to Lucius.

“Will you be attending the funeral tomorrow?” he asked and Izabella clenched her teeth slightly at his casual behaviour, treating the funeral like a social event.

“Yes I shall be. I am very sorry for your loss.” he said quietly, turning towards Izabella with gentle eyes. She smiled slightly and nodded, turning as she heard her name.

She stepped towards Sirius as he approached her and he placed a hand on her waist gently.

“We're going to that Italian restaurant in Godric's Hollow on Monday. You coming?” he offered. Izabella stratched her head and he groaned slightly. “Go on Izzy.”

“I don't know Sirius...”
“Please. James reckons he's got something exciting to tell us.”
“If Lily is pregnant I'll kill him.” she said darkly and Sirius threw his head back and laughed.

“So you're coming?” he said, grinning down at her as his eyes sparkled.
“Fine.” she said sighing. He beamed and bent to press his lips to hers. She pushed against his chest, aware of the eyes that were fixed on her but Sirius pulled her closer.

“Don't worry about tomorrow.” he said quietly.
“I'm not.” she said as she looked down at the floor. He lifted her face and kissed the tip of her nose.

“I'll see you Monday.” He beamed, then hurried off to meet James and his parents. Izabella sighed then turned and stepped back to join her brother, who was looking extremely pale, his features tense. Lucius was watching her carefully, his eyes alight with interest.

“Well, we had better go.” Severus said, reaching out his hand.
“Of course. I shall see you tomorrow.” he said shaking Severus' hand firmly. Lucius turned to Izabella and took her hand, kissing her knuckles lightly.

“It was a pleasure to meet you.” he said with a smile.
“You too.” Izabella said, smiling at the flutter in her stomach. He nodded politely then left, Izabella watching him curiously until he merged with the crowds.

“Is Lily really pregnant?” Severus said suddenly. Izabella looked at him and arched an eyebrow.
“She better not be.” she said as they started to walk through the busy station to an alleyway just beyond the entrance.

They took their trunks, looked around briefly, then disapparated, landing across from the row of houses that was Spinner's End. They paused for a moment then continued until they reached their shabby front door. Severus took Izabella's trunk as she pushed open the door and let them both inside.

Immediately she noticed the difference. The house had been throughorly cleaned and was hardly recognisable. The furniture had been changed and the walls repainted and the house no longer looked grotty. Izabella shared a frown with Severus and they continued deeped into the house where they found their mother in the kitchen, humming beneath her breath as she cooked.

“Mum?” Izabella said, announcing their arrival. Eileen turned and held out her arms.
“Welcome home.” she said, embracing them. Izabella was immediately suspicious. Eileen was never affectionate.

“Have you decorated?” Severus asked.
“Yes. Well after I had thrown out Tobais' stuff I thought why not?” she said beaming as she looked around proudly. Izabella's forehead creased deeply.
“You've thrown his stuff away?” she asked.

“Well it wasn't doing any good being in the house was it?”
Izabella stared at her mother for a moment then shook her head.
“I'm going to bed.”

She turned sharply and made for the stairs.
“Your dress for tomorrow is hanging in your room!” Eileen called after her.

Izabella reached her room and stared at the dress attatched to the door. It was beautiful. It was the colour of a raven's wing and looked so soft to touch. She pulled it off the hanger and shut her door, moving to the mirror to hold the dress up in front of her. The material was heavy and well tailored. Where on earth had her mother got enough money to buy this? She caught sight of the detail intricily woven into the bodice of the dress. The green thread snaked through the black, shimmering against the slightly silky material. The material stirred a memory in her... Abraxas Malfoy in his fine robes, his silk green tie.

Izabella sank onto her bed, the dress lying beside her as her reflection looked back at her with curious and confused eyes.

Chapter Eight - The Funeral June 1978
As Izabella sat at the table the next morning, her head in her hand, she attempted to stay awake and not let her face fall into her cereal. The night had be long and sleep had come to her unwillingly. Her mother was skitting around the kitchen, already dressed in her modest black robes. Severus was still in his nightwear, but his face was calm and serene.

“Mother sit down.” he sighed exasperatedly. She obliged, her face tense and her hands wavering.

Izabella rolled her eyes and pushed her bowl away from her. She returned upstairs climbed into the shower, washing her hair forcefully as an attempt to clear her mind and rid herself of thoughts.

She wrapped a towel around herself and hurried across the hallway into her bedroom where she pulled on a robe and sat on her bed as she pulled her wand through her hair, steam evaporating from her drying curls.

Finally she sighed and turned to the dress that was lying over the back of her chair. She picked it up, glaring at the silk for a moment then she removed her robe, pulled on her underwear and then stepped into the dress. She pulled up the zip and turned to face the mirror.

Izabella tilted her head slightly. She had to admit, it was lovely. It was tighter than she had expected, hugging her body flatteringly and falling just below her knees. It had short strappy sleeves and a modest neckline, but the back dipped a little, baring some flesh. She pulled out a pair of moderately high heels and slipped them on, admiring the outcome in the mirror.

She glanced at her hair and in one motion, sweeped up the top, pinning it with grips. The rest hung in loose curls and she pulled it to one side over her shoulder. Satisfied, she made her way downstairs where Severus and Eileen were waiting.

“Izabella! You look beautiful.” she gasped. Izabella rolled her eyes.
“Lets go.” she mumbled, passing them and walking out of the door to find a strange car outside, and a chauffeur standing close by. He crossed and opened the door for Izabella and she climbed inside, raising an eyebrow at the leather seats. Her mother and Severus crawled in, settling themselves opposite her.

“Where did the car come from?” Izabella asked.
“Abraxas lent it to us.”
“What a surprise.” Izabella mumbled. “And since when have you been on first name terms?” she asked icily.

“Izabella.” Severus said in a warning tone. “Abraxas Malfoy has done a lot for this family, so you had better not forget it.”

Izabella rolled her eyes and childishly folded her arms, leaning back in her seat and watching out of the window. The sun was beating down, warming the air and enticing the flowers to bloom.
Ironic day for a funeral, Izabella thought to herself.

They pulled up outside the church and Izabella spotted the mass of mourners. Izabella frowned. Did Tobias even know this many people?
She climbed out of the car and spotted Lucius and Abraxas turn their heads towards her. They looked startlingly alike, both dressed in fine black suits which were tailored to their bodies perfectly.

Severus was by her side and extended his arm. Izabella took it; she knew he wanted to show family unity, even if they were broken and crumbling apart. She looked around and saw the only Muggles were the two men that Tobias used to go drinking with and they looked just as confused as she did about the amount of people gathered.

Eileen played her part, lowering her head in mourning as she approached the Malfoys. Abraxas nodded understandingly and patted her shoulder in comfort. Lucius watched Izabella as she walked with Severus and he smiled gently. She returned the gesture.

Severus began to lead her inside and she turned, grabbing Eileen's arm to pull her away from Abraxas, not that it would be long until he returned. As they took their place on the front row, Izabella's mouth dropped open as they had the cheek the join them. Izabella found herself between Severus and Lucius, but at least the latter looked apologetic.

“I'm sorry, I tried to tell him it was innappropiate for us to sit here.” Lucius said quietly in her ear. She shook her head slightly and smiled.
“I would of thought it was innappropiate for you to be here at all... Purebloods at a Muggle's funeral!” she said, pretending to cover her mouth in shock. He chuckled then looked down at her with twinkling eyes.

“You're a Pureblood and you're still here.”
She rolled her eyes, partly at what he said, but partly at the fact that he even knew she was a Pureblood.

“Tobias was my-”
She stopped, swallowing hard and turned to face the front. She felt Lucius' eyes graze over her face then he reached down and patted her hand gently as it lay between them on the bench. She grasped his hand, interlocking their fingers as the service began and a tear fell silently down her face.

I'm very sorry my comments have been rare lately but it was a busy time. Hopefully, I'll be able to write more often now. I love this story, I'm very curious to find out what's up with Abraxas, I love how Izabella reacted when she and Lucius met, how Severus is such a protective brother...and I feel so sorry for Izabella for her remaining year at Hogwarts, without her brother and friends. But for now I'm curious how their summer will be. Please update soon, keep up the good work!

Chapter Nine - A Social Gathering June 1978
The service was short, then Izabella followed the crowds out into the graveyard where Tobias would be buried. She circled her wand discretely by her side, conjuring a rose which she layed carefully on the coffin.

Afterwards, they returned to the front of the church where Eileen and Severus began to mingle within the mourners, shaking hands and conversing. Izabella rolled her eyes and walked over to the two men which stood apart from the others.

“Izabella.” one greeted her. He was short and slightly overweight, his belly protruding beneath his shirt.
“Jeff,” she said smiling briefly as she shook his hand. The other, in contrast was tall and lanky, his sleeves slightly too short on his arms.

“Adam.” she said extending her hand towards him. He nodded slightly and looked behind her.
“Your mother seems upset.” he said, his voice empty of emotion. Izabella sighed and dropped her head slightly.

“You can't really blame her after the way he treated her.” she said quietly.
“You know Izabella, he might not of been the nicest man but he loved you.” Jeff said quietly. Izabella looked up at him and felt her eyes prickle with tears. Then a heavy hand landed on her shoulder and she rolled her eyes at the drawling voice.

“Izabella, we are moving on to the wake now.” Abraxas said smiling down at her. He looked towards the two Muggles and raised an eyebrow slightly. “Will you be joining us?”

The two eyed him for a moment then Jeff shook his head.
“No. We're going to the pub to honour Tobias the way he would of wanted.” he said coldly. Izabella grinned, letting her hair fall infront of her face to hide it.

Adam moved forward and took Izabella's hand, pulling her out of Abraxas' grasp and planting a kiss on her cheek. Jeff embraced her briefly and kissed her forehead.

“We'll see you soon Iz.” they said smiling as they turned and left the church yard.

Abraxas watched them, his lip curling then he placed a hand on Izabella's back and guided her back towards the crowds. She moved away from him, standing beside her brother.

“Where is the wake?” she asked him quietly. He shrugged slightly then took her arm as he directed her back to the car. Izabella climbed in and slid down in the seat, leaning her head back as Severus sat opposite her in the spacious car.

“Severus, sit next to your sister.” Eileen said firmly as she slid into the car and took Severus' seat as he rolled his eyes and joined Izabella. Abraxas soon followed, seating himself beside her mother, which left Lucius beside Izabella.

Across the car, Eileen glared at Izabella pointedly but she ignored her, looking up at the ceiling until her mother caved in.

“Izabella sit properly.” she snapped. With a sigh Izabella straightened her back, crossing her legs gracefully as her mother had taught her.

The car journey dragged by filled with awkward silences, broken occasionally by Eileen and Abraxas attempting to start a conversation in which Izabella avoided speaking. Eventually the car pulled to a stop and Izabella sighed in relief as they began to pile out of the car. As she swung her legs out, a hand was offered to her and she smiled, gladly accepting Lucius' help to get out of the car.

He smiled and did not release her hand as they began to walk towards the large house in front of them. He wrapped her arm through his gently and smiled at her.

“Where are we?” Izabella asked, frowning as they entered a large, spacious Entrance Hall filled with the people from the church.
“Malfoy Manor.” Lucius said, a little apologetically. Izabella laughed humourlessly.

They made their way out into the large garden that extended beyond what Izabella could see, filled with brightly coloured flowers. A large table was covered in an assortment of food and drinks. Izabella shook her head, bewildered. The black clothes and the pretend mournful faces did not seem to fit in this rather formal social event.

Eileen grabbed Izabella wrist and she was dragged off, being introduced to the highest powered Purebloods. She played her part well, listening intently, her laugh tinkering across the grounds. It was her most deadly talent, her charm.

Eventually, she was released from her mother's grip and managed to sneak away. She walked around the edge of the Manor, a large glass of firewhiskey in her hand until she came across a large ornate fountain and moved towards it. It was carved out of marble, intricitly showing the snakes which weaved around the figure of a man. He was clearly a Malfoy. The structured face and haughty smirk made that obvious.

She stepped out of her heels and swung her legs over the side and into the water. It was cool and soothed her aching feet. She closed her eyes and leant back against the edge of the fountain, absorbing the sun that shone brightly above her.

“I'm not the only one that needed to get away then.” Lucius said from behind her. She jumped slightly, the water splashing below her feet as she turned to smile at him. “Can I join you?”

She nodded and smiled as he sat next her, facing the opposite direction to her as he pulled off his shoes and socks and rolled up his trousers, then turning and swinging his legs into the water. He looked up at the statue thoughtfully for a moment.

“My Grandfather would have a fit if he could see this.”
Izabella chuckled and looked up at the stone face.
“That's your Grandfather?” Izabella asked. Lucius nodded and took a swig of his drink.

“The one and only Cassius Malfoy.” There was a bitter note to his voice which made Izabella frown slightly. She turned, angling her body more towards him whilst her feet still dipped in the water.

“You didn't like him?”
“He was impossible to like. Even worse than my father.” he said, turning to smirk at Izabella.
“He can't have been that bad.” Izabella said, turning to look up at the figure again. Lucius hummed thoughtfully and for a while they sat in silence.

“You look very beautiful today.” Lucius said suddenly, tilting his head to one side as he watched her. Izabella blushed lightly.
“Thank you.” she said quietly.

“I apologise for my father. He doesn't understand that someone could feel sad over the death of a Muggle.”
Izabella laughed.
“You make him sound so heartless.”

“Maybe he is.” Lucius said with a shrug. Izabella looked at him for a moment then turned her gaze to the water, dropping her head so that her hair hid her tears.

“Izabella?” he said gently.
“I'm fine.” she said shaking her head.
“You're allowed to be upset you know.” he said quietly.
“Am I?” she said, turning to him with desperate eyes. “I seem to be the only one who is...”

“Tobias did some pretty bad things, but not to you. You have no reason to hate him.”
“But I do hate him. For making my mother so scared and Severus so... cold.”
“Stop thinking about other people for once.” he suggested gently.

Izabella's forehead creased and he sighed, wrapping an arm around her waist. She leant her head on his shoulder as tears continued to stream down her face and she shuffled closer, allowing him to wrap his other arm around her.
They were still for quite some time until Izabella's sobs faded away and Lucius stroked her hair gently.

“There you are.” came the voice of Abraxas from behind them as he strided across the lawn, Eileen following quickly. Izabella moved out of Lucius' grasp, wiping a hand across her face before she swung her legs round to face her mother and Abraxas.

“Izabella get off that wall before it ruins your dress.” she said, shaking her head. Izabella rolled her eyes and shook her feet slightly before slipping them into her shoes and standing up. Lucius did the same, standing by her side.

“Everyone has left, we need to get home.” Eileen said. Izabella suddenly noticed the drop in temperature and the darkening of the sky. She hadn't realised how much time had passed. She turned to Lucius and smiled as he bent to press his lips to her knuckles.

“Thank you,” she whispered. He nodded in acknoweldgement and she smiled walking over to join her mother.

“Where's Sev?”
“He's already gone.” Eileen said as she grasped her daughter's hand. “Thank you for everything.” she said gratefully to Abraxas. He bowed respectfully.
“The pleasure was all mine.” he said in a low voice. He smiled towards Izabella. “I'm sure I will see you soon.”

She smiled, her eyes narrowing slightly. Then she held onto her mother's hand as she turned, landing in the middle of Spinner's End.
