Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop

http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5a31f1e6.jpg

Welcome to Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop, the feather in Hogsmeade's hat!

Please take a look around at everything and let the Shopkeeper, aka Hogsmeade's Cat Lady, Edina Fairbairn, know if you need any help with anything!

Keep your eyes open and try not to step on any of Edina's seven cats that 'help' her run the shop. They are all very friendly animals and tend to want attention from anyone that comes in the door.

OOC: Do not RP for the Shopkeeper. Remember, all school RPG rules apply. Thanks!

There was a large cat between Dot and the quills. A large cat with a sleepy deep purr and actual claws, and a tail curling like a question mark across the carpet. Dot shuffled back and forth, but there was no way she was gonna wake that beast up. It looked so content and happy and a bit like a tiger that could take off her face for bothering it.

She could just... buy something else. A journal. Some ink. Very helpful things unless what a girl REALLY needed... was a quill.

One thing that Paige was NOT in the need of now, and for perhaps the first time of her young adult life, was a quill. She still had the set Thornton had gifted to her a year or so back and now she was finally the proud owner of a phoenix feather quill - also thanks to Thornton. Didn't mean she still didn't like to come by the shops and admire them, however. Especially since quills had, a long time ago, stopped just being a writing instrument.

On the other hand, she could always use some more ink seeing how quickly she ran out of it.

Which is what brought her to Scrivenshaft's today. "Hi Dot," Paige squeaked as she stepped inside and spotted one of her best friends - completely oblivious to the presence of a sleeping kitty.

Oh, Paige! Dot threw her arms around her friend and squeeeeeeezed the life out of her, mostly because she was glad to have a partner in crime. Also because she adored Paige and hadn't seen her in a few days. And Paige was a better human than Dot and could commit the terrible crime of moving the cat.

"That big cat is blocking me from the quills. Help!" She held on tight to Paige, but not too tightly. Breathing was still allowed to happen. "Also, hi. I'm sorry I'm being awfully rude, so hi. I love you and you look really pretty today! How are you? How's Thornton?"

Paige returned the hug eagerly and with just as much affection, if not more, before peering around the red head to see just what Dot was talking about. "He's only sleeping, Dot," she giggled softly so as not to disturb the creature too much. "Which one do you want? I can try and get it for you."

If, you know, Dot gave her a little bit more wiggle room to do so.

"You're not rude, Dot," she smiled, glancing over her shoulder at her. "You just know what you want and cut to the chase." Which was something her inner journalist could appreciate and admire. Not need to fluff conversation and writing when it wasn't necessary. "Thank you. And you always look nice." she blushed, instinctively looking down at her mousy self. Her curls had started having a hard time keeping their ringlet shape and she was having a bit of an identity crisis over it all. A small one..but still one. "I'm good. The break helped give me some direction in life so it's helping deal with everything else." She paused to chew on her bottom lip a little. "He's doing alright."

Or at least she thought so. Ravenclaw boys were incredibly confusing and even Kyroh had confirmed that to her.

"Daddy sends his regards, by the way."

"He looks like a baby tiger. I feel unsafe." Dot set Paige away from her body by about two feet, between herself and the cat, and made a gesture at the tiger in training. It was going to require Paige's handling. "I need you to make it go away. I'm getting that phoenix quill right there. For you. A present. I have money for it, and you deserve it."

Dot put her hands on Paige's waist and directed her forward a step toward the cat. Protective!Paige. "I'm a little rude, actually, but I'm glad you approve of me. And I'm glad you look so happy. You are happy, right? No more badness with the boyfie?" Because Thornton was someone Dot adored, but he was the biggest grump ever born on this planet.

She couldn't help but giggle, and not because she was laughing AT Dot per say - as dramatic as the Slytherin may be over the sleeping kitty. She would have used the term tabby cat rather than tiger, but kept such thoughts to herself as Dot made the color rise in her cheeks. "You...really don't have to do that," she squeaked. "I...already have one. Thornton gave me one for Christmas."

And then there was some insane amounts of blushing accompanying those words.

"I...think so?" she laughed airly. She wasn't feel sad so happy was as good a term as any. Confused and uncertain? Those were still very present. "I had a sort of epiphany over the break with daddy being home about a direction in life, so it's nice to have something to focus on like that." Which both removed and added more stress, but mostly remove. "No badness," she replied, shaking her head. "But I....haven't really seen him at all since before the break..."

When he had given her the quill an even reciprocated her hugs...so that was a hope she was clinging to.

Not needing to get the quill meant no reason to wake the sleeping giant cat, so Dot was sort of relieved that Paige didn't need that particular present anymore, although it meant she was not at a loss about what to get for her friend. And Paige deserved a gift. So. "That was nice of him." Dot's tone cooled significantly, and her eyes roved the shelves rather than look at Paige and let her know how she was feeling about Thornton. And Christmas. "It's good to hear he does celebrate the holiday. I wasn't sure, you know, after I sent him a gift and never heard anything back about it."

Not that she was keeping track.

"I'll get you some of that pale pink ink. It'll look so pretty on parchment, and it glitters a little in the light. How is your daddy feeling? I bet it was hard to leave him after he just got home and everything, but I'm glad you're back." And she wasn't suprised at all that Paige wanted to be a Healer. Paige was clever and kind, and what else did a Healer need? "My mum says you're welcome to drop by her office if you're interested in learning more about midwifery."

Paige blushed as she looked down at her burgundy converse and composed her thoughts for a moment. "We did a small gift exchange in the Great Hall before the break," she explained, noting some of the tension in Dot's tone but not entirely understanding it until a few moments later. "It was incredibly unexpected...he said he had purchased it over the summer." Which made her wonder a few things, but the Hufflepuff chose to hold on to her hope and ignore other concerns. "Really?" she squeaked in disappointed surprise. That certainly didn't sound like Thornton...she would have expected him to at least writing a thank you letter.

She pursed her lips and looked towards the ink Dot was indicating. "You don't have to get me anything, Dot, especially not for Christmas. You coming to visit was more than enough," she smile, her blue eyes lingering on the ink in question. It was pretty and delicate and WOULD look nice on parchment. She would also feel bad that Dot spent so much on her when her gifts had been handcrafted chocolate dipped crisps and poorly knitted scarves. "It was...even knowing that he is in good hands with Healer Deshawn...but not too much longer until summer and daddy has more control in his hands that he can write legibly now." A daunting task considering the lack of digits on the one hand. "Oh! Tell your mother thank you and I may take her up on it. That must be such a beautiful job."

Helping bring life into the world and joy into the arms of parents.

Some part of her knew she should have probably left Marvin back at the castle, but Elle felt he deserved to visit Hogsmeade just as much as she did. Not that the hedgehog needed anything, nor did she expect she’d find much for him while she was at Scrivenshaft’s. Instead, she was there to get more letter supplies, to write back home to tell her sister she was okay. That she wasn’t upset she hadn’t been able to go home for the holidays. It had been just fine staying at Hogwarts, really.

Sidestepping to avoid a cat curled up on the floor, she double-checked her backpack to make sure her hedgehog was still comfortable in the little blanket nest she’d created inside. All was well, so she continued over to look at the ink selection. Maybe she’d get a couple different colors this time, so she didn’t have to use her school ink for messages and everything. It sounded like a plan.

Jay was sorta excited about Hogsmeade. He had soooooo much stuff to do and get. He had wrapped himself up in his big warm coat, pulled on his hat and his scarf, and made his way down to the village; in his pocket, squirming a bit but seeming fairly content, was Sniffler. He patted the little lump gently and hopped along.

First stop would be Scrivenshaft's, because he was out of quills. He'd broken the last one while taking notes about his little plants... now he had nothing to take notes with except a single, very dull pencil. Which he was normally okay with, but he was at magic school now. He wanted to take notes with more appropriate things.

"You can come out now, it's warm," he murmured as he stepped inside and pulled his scarf down. He flicked the button on the pocket open and scooped up the prickly little creature; Sniffler uncurled in his palm and sniffed as he looked around inquisitively. "I gotta get some quills and some ink and then we'll go find treats!"

He looked around the quill displays.

She’d never thought that there would have been that much decision involved when it came to inks. It had made Elle stand there by the shelves for a few seconds longer than she’d expected before she decided on black ink for lesson notes and other school stuff, and then a pale green for personal use. She figured it would work okay for her letters and stuff. As long as she used dark enough parchment, she didn’t think it would cause a problem. She’d just have to keep it away from Marvin and any other curious pets that roamed the common room. Only her hedgehog would see the inside of her backpack though.

Inks in hand, she’d turned as she heard a murmur coming from behind her. Cats didn’t talk, unless the ones she saw in the shop were kneazles. Even then, she didn’t think kneazles talked. As she saw the boy, she got curious, wandering nearer until she saw the creature in his hands. At that point, her blue eyes widened. “You have a hedgehog too?,” she asked, focus more on the hedgehog in his hands rather than the boy carrying him.

She hadn’t thought there were others here who had hedgehogs.

There were pretty red quills, and he wanted them. They were so shiny and pretty... he picked one up and swished it gently, cradling Sniffler against his chest. They were probably a little on the expensive side... he absently rubbed his thumb over his hedgehog's head and hummed to himself, stretching up on his toes to reach for one of the everlasting quills, just to compare them. Everlasting meant he didn't have to worry about breaking it... right?

The girl coming nearer hadn't escaped his attention, but he was surprised when she actually talked to him. The small Slytherin dropped back down from standing on his tiptoes and looked at her, then at the little lump in his hand.

"His name's Sniffler." He sniffed just then, as if demonstrating his name, but that wasn't why he was named the way he was and he knew it. Jaemin had made a point of telling him and everything. "What do you mean 'too'?"

Did she have one? Or was it someone she knew, and seeing Sniffler had just reminded her of it... either way, it was exciting. It meant that there was someone who would be able to share the hedgehog maze he was considering making.

She hadn’t intended on looking at the quills, but as the boy, who as she’d gotten closer she recognized as a fellow Slytherin, had picked up a red one, Elle had found her gaze drawn to the quills. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to get a new one. Her old one was rather worn out, but she also knew she had to make sure she didn’t spend all of her money here in this one shop. She had other stops to make after all, and she didn’t really want to have to write home to ask for more money just because she spent it all in one Hogsmeade trip.

She hadn’t expected for her question to have startled him, either, and her eyes widened slightly. She’d possibly scared a first year. She hadn’t wanted that. She’d just been curious about the hedgehog he was cradling. That was infinitely more fascinating than the cats.

She nodded as the introduction happened. “It’s nice to meet you Sniffler,” she said softly to the hedgehog, before she’d shifted her backpack in front of herself. The boy hadn’t introduced herself, but the question hadn’t skipped her notice as she’d unzipped the backpack and reached inside. It would be easier to just show him than just answer the question verbally, since she had Marvin with her.

“I have one too,” she said, carefully lifting the curled up hedgehog out from the blanket nest in her backpack so he could see him. “His name is Marvin. I didn’t know there were other people who had hedgehogs at Hogwarts.”

"It's nice that you finally got your extra special quill. You deserve it." Dot grabbed up the bottle of pink ink, and a bottle of the indigo that she liked because it looked cerulean in some lights and purple in others. Still much cheaper than the special quill she'd been planning to buy for Paige, which was a bonus.

"I want to give you something for helping me study Herbology, and for just... because." And no arguments, missy, because Dot did what she wanted. She was all about setting goals and following through. "It was nice visiting, though, and meeting your father and all that. Maybe I can write him a nice owl to thank him for his hospitality? D'you think he gets..." She was going to suggest he was lonesome without Paige there, but that would upset her curly-haired friend. "I bet he loves to get mail. Could I make him something, d'you think?"

Paige could only blush in response. It was, and always would be, a very precious sentiment to her.

She knew there was no sense in debating the issue with Dot, not when the red head had her mind decided. It was another trait that Paige admired about her best friend - although that list honestly seemed never ending. "It was really nice being having you over," she chirped, obviously pleased that Dot had enjoyed the trip as well. "I surely will. You left quite the impression on him."

Able to insinuate what thoughts may have followed, although likely to be wrong, Paige bit down on her lower lip and thought for a moment. Mr. Cope came over often to chat with daddy and read to him using his 'radio voice' and general discuss various things. Although the Hogwarts governor did the majority of the talking, she could tell daddy enjoyed his company immensely. So daddy wasn't totally alone. She wrote to daddy often, even if his replies took a while. He had more dexterity in his hands now that he could hold a quill for a significant amount of time, enough to write at least a paragraph before he needed to take a break, so letters were returned more frequently these days.

"I'm sure he'd appreciate that," she nodded. "What sort of thing were you thinking?"

Azura headed into the quill shop intent on getting not only a few new quills.. But also some parchment and another journal to write her music in! Her Sapphire Blue Quill and her deep Emerald green Quill still worked well, but she wanted a purple one! To match her eyes! Not to mention she needed a dedicated music quill..

She pushed her black hair behind her ear as she walked into the shop and looked around, it was almost like a writers paradise in here! And it made her smile, she had been smiling more these days since things were patched up with Jace.. (Mostly) and she had won her last duel..

Perhaps things are finally starting to turn around?

Cyprian had no idea what he was doing.

He had come into the store looking for a planner, something that is organized and simple to find. . . but he had no idea where anything was. So he just wandered aimlessly around the store, his eyes darting between the shelves, looking for anything girly, pink and plannery (that most likely was not a word).

Instead his blue eyes fell upon a raven-haired girl (or long-haired girly-boy) standing. . . by the things he was looking for! Perfect! Dark wings (or hair, in this case) didn't always bring dark words (or dark journals).

He walked up toward the planner's place (shelves? Cases?) and browsed over the variety. "Aha!" he snatched up a light pink one, covered in little flowers and other girl-vomit things, "Do you think that this one is appropriate?" he asked the girl (yes, I checked) standing besides him. He needed a female-opinion for this, and who better to ask than this convenient female?

Cyprian, you genius.

Azura had moved over to the journals first and was looking them over, her small fingers moving over the bindings as she gently rejected them in her head.. Mentally saying Sorry. To the ones that she passed over..

Finally her hand paused over a plain light blue one, the color striking her as one of her favorites.. She was about to pull it out when she heard a voice.. from beside her.. She had been so lost in her choosing that she hadn't even noticed that someone was next to her! Gah!

She slowly turned her head, her purple eyes looking up at the rather cute boy that stood next to her, before she focused on what he was holding..

It was light pink and covered in flowers.. and did she spy a kitty on it? She bit her lip a little.. Wondering what it was appropriate for.. "Uhh, well.. Yes, it's quite cute.. if it's for a girl?" She didn't want to judge though.. "It's quite lovely though.. for anyone really."

Let's hope that flew!

Cyprian looked down as the female spoke, her majestic eyes sending his over-thinkery (also not a word) brain into a spiral. "Wow! Are those your eyes?" he said in awe, "I mean of course they're your eyes, but are they YOUR eyes?" That totally made sense.

He wanted to touch them, just to make sure they were real (cause people casually just walked around with fake eyes). But he wasn't going to, since he (obviously) wasn't weird. He was really amazed by them, he knew Neith would be as well. . . which reminded him!

He looked down at the book, then back at the female (who was also really pretty), "Oh! Noononononnononno!" he stammered, "It's not for me. I'm a boy. This is indeed for a member of your race." Race? Really? Were witches even wizards? And were wizards even a race? So many questions.

"It's for my sister." he said with a grin, "She's kinda, how do you say. . . forgetful. I'm Cyprian, by the way. Cyprian Night." Smoothness
.

Azura looked up at the boy as he commented on her eyes and she let out the softest of giggles..Of all the reactions to her eyes that she had gotten.. (Yeah, she kept a record so what?) That was different! Austin's had to be the greatest.. but this was unique! "Yes, they are mine, they run in the family actually, it's a bit of a story.. I can tell you about it sometime." She said with a warm smile up at the boy.

She looked up at him expectantly as he spoke and then she nodded a little.. b]"Well, I mean.. if you liked it.. it wouldn't be awful.."[/b] She tried to get out to reassure him that she wasn't judging! But ahhh.. A member of her race? She bit her lip trying to hold back a giggle.. That was cute. "Well, then since it's for a member of my race, it works perfectly." She grinned at him. Had she just helped him pick out a gift for his girlfriend? And uhh.. why would she care about that?

She didn't..

Right.

"Oh! Well that would be perfect for a sister." She said with a warm smile suddenly feeling slightly relieved.. Why though? She pushed the thought away as she smiled up at him. "That is probably the coolest name I have ever heard, It's nice to meet you Cyprian.. I'm Azura Kennedy." She said with a warm smile.

He had made the girl giggle (apparently that was a sign of amusement in females), which made him smile as well. He perked up even more when she offered to tell him about her eyes. "That would be fantastic, actually!" he said, staring into her purply-irises, "Do you know what makes them that colour? Is it like a specific mixture of blue and pink. . . or are you like an ancient princess?" Princess would be super cool, since she actually looked like someone who should be royalty.

"And if you ARE some sort of mythical princess-thingy, can you outlaw. . ." he shuddered then and lowered his voice to a whisper, "beets?" Merlin, he hated beets! WHAT even was the POINT of eating the taproot portion of the beet plant? It was just not worth the red-stains.

Her smile was really pretty. . .

The way her face muscles just contorted into the perfectly warm shape. . . it was pure magic.

Ah yes! The journal! "Yeah, I'm just trying to get Neith to stop forgetting things. . . she's kind of an air-head." he said with a shrug, "But she's a really smart air-head, thus why she's a Ravenclaw." That was indeed the house the smarties (word?) were in.

He grinned when she complimented his name, "Thank you! I got it for my birthday." He was not even kidding, "I'm named after the muggle chess-piece of Carthage. Azura? Well, it is indeed a pretty name (for a pretty girl). What year are you in, Miss. Kennedy?" So formal.

Azura smiled warmly and even blushed a little as the boy looked into her eyes, "Well, why I would love to be an ancient Princess, and that indeed is one of my nicknames.. Sadly, I'm not one.." She said with a nod. "You see, my great, great, great, great, great great grandmother was part veela and part fairy..And she had purple eyes that my so many great grandfather just adored staring into! Sooo.. He charmed all blood born members of my family to have the exact shade of purple eyes that their mate would love to stare into." She bit her lip a little.. Despite how romantic that all was.. it was awkward to tell THAT to a boy who was admiring them! Like.. Hey! so glad you like my eyes, we might be fated..

*sigh*

She smiled again at him as he spoke and she nodded. "Of course! Anything for my loyal subjects!" and cute boys Ehhem.. Anyways..

"Oh Really? A Ravenclaw? I'm in that house too! What year is she?" She asked curiously, she hadn't been up in her keeping tabs on her other house mates though.. cause.. Broken heart!

He got it for his birthday? That was adorable! "Well, I say that it was a great present." She said with a warm smile.. Cyprian.. yeah..she liked that. It seemed to fit him super well. "Oh thank you." Cue slight blush.. Even though her first and middle name literally mean Blue Moon..

"I'm a first year actually, and you?" She asked him with a warm smile.

Wow.

That was. . . a very Serotonin, Norepinephrine and Dopamine-ly story. . .

"Your grandma was part Veela and wait- fairy?" the Veela part explained why she was so pretty. . . (meaning she had a combination of pleasing features all smashed together) "That's quite impressive! So you're like a super magical witch then?" He really did feel like he was in the presence of royalty now. Because, FAIRY.

A mate? Like in those stupid werewolf-love stories? "Then you must have a lot of mates, cause I bet a lot of people want to stare into your eyes." Like me. . .

He grinned and did a deep curtsy, "I'll do anything to get those retched things banned." He really hated beets (for some apparent reason).

Ahh, she was a Ravenclaw as well. Seemed fitting, she seemed smart (Veelas are smart, right?) "Neith is a fifth year. You've probably encountered that horror she calls a pet." Mage, the demon cat was called, "That cat has fur as black as your hair, though I doubt his is a clean-looking as yours."

. . . And for some odd reason, blood seemed to go straight to his face. Strange. . . he couldn't quite pinpoint the emotion.

There went her face-muscles again. . . Merlin. "Oh, I'm a Third Year. As you can probably tell by my utter maturity." And by his class and sophistication, obviously. "I'm in Slytherin. Being ambitious and sly are clearly traits that I posses." Nope. . . just Cunning.

Azura nodded as he spoke. "Mmmm, but not the sort of Faires we have around here. A Fairy.." Like in the old Shakespearean plays.. Titania, Oberon.. That sort of thing. She liked to imagine that at least. Who knew what the truth was! She grinned a little and shrugged her little shoulders a bit. "I don't know if you would call me Super magical, I'm pretty good at charms though." She said with a bit of a shrug as she looked up at him.. only to blush a little as he spoke..

"Well, people DO like my eyes, but.. I don't have a..umm.. mate. Just lots of friends." She said softly, her mind going to Jace for a moment.. Mmm, just a friend..Her heart twisted ever so slightly, but she bit her lip for a moment and let it go.. Jace was just her friend.. and she needed to get over him, to keep him that way.

Her thoughts were pulled from the half Japanese boy and Cyprian curtsied before her and she blushed a bit more! She had never had anyone do that to her before! "Well, I shall see what I can come up with, but I promise you it won't be to horrible." A thought instantly sprang to her mind..

A kiss..

Holy Fwoopers Azura.. what EVEN? She thought to herself as she blinked her eyes and then looked back at Cyprian.. a little smile on her lips..

Before she pulled herself from her obviously silly thoughts and smiled as he spoke of his sister.. "I might have seen her before? And maybe the cat?" She had seen several cats around the common room, but usually the only one who came to her was Effie, Garetth's kitty. She took to sleeping on her feet lately..

Ahh.. A third year Slythein.. Azura had to hold back a giggle as he spoke. "I see, though.. How are you being ambition and sly right now?" She asked him as she gave him another warm smile, she really hadn't had this much fun talking to someone in quite awhile!
