Long before the Weasleys opened their famous shop in Diagon Alley, Zonko's was the premier wizarding joke shop in all of Britain. The outside of the shop is bright red, which purposefully makes the building stick out from the others located on High Street. Stop in to pick up all your prankster supplies and have fun, but be sure to tell the professors at Hogwarts you bought them elsewhere should you happen to be caught breaking the rules.
Vivid colours pop out to your eyes and sounds of all pitches fill your eyes upon entering the shop. Items on display are moving around and whizzing above your head, so keep a watchful eye out for things on the ground and above you. There are also large signs posted around the shop that say "BUY BEFORE YOU PRANK!" and "NO DUNGBOMB WARS INSIDE THE SHOP!" courtesy of the shopkeeper.
Well, by prepared we mean she was shoveling cereal into her mouth this morning while writing down a scavenger hunt sort of list to bestow upon a very specific set of first years to help them acclimate to all the wonderous things in Hogsmeade. She had dropped some of her sugary rings on the parchment, so there were some round milk stains along one side but otherwise the parchment was in pristine condition. Anna's penmanship left much to be desired as well, but since this wasn't for homework it was okay.
Spotting her favorite lizard loving family member, Anna skipped the remaining space between them with great haste while shoving her list into her pocket. This meant that the parchment was now all kinds of crumbled and wrinkled, oh well. "Gueeeeeeess whoooooooooooo," she hummed while covering her Little Lizard's eyes. "Bet you only need one go to know."
Lally had been minding her own business when suddenly everything was dark!! The first year shrieked, first thinking it must be some prank from the joke shop someone had set off, and then realizing that no, it was just someone's hand over her eyes. She heard the whooooo of a familiar voice and quickly wriggled free, beaming when she saw that it was indeed her favoritewisest most fun and reassuring cousin.
"Anna!" she said happily. It wasn't as if she hadn't seen her recently, but after the surprise, it was a relief that it was just Anna. "What are you doing here?" She'd only been in the shop for a little bit, but she would have expected Anna to be in the candy shop or exploring outside instead.

Anna, naturally, did not try to keep Little Lizard captured when she started to wiggle free. At least here she didn't have to worry about loss of tail!
"Good guess," she giggled while hooking her arm around her little cousin's. Her free hand, and arm since they were attached, went to rummage through the oversized pockets of her coat for a very wrinkly bit of parchment with her own loopy handwriting on it. It was, if you could catch enough of a glance at it, was a checklist of sorts with hearts for ticking off instead of squares or circles. "I'm here to go on an adventure with you, of course. Here on this list are fantastical artefacts waiting to be discovered to help you get better acquainted with all the wonders and perks that are Hogsmeade Weekends!" Paper in hand, the third year attempted to smooth it out against her stomach. "That is...if you think you're brave enough to handle it..." she added with a playful smirk and overly exaggerated wiggly brows. "I mean...the first thing on the list is to find something yellow..." she mused with an eager glance around the shop.

Lally wished she was surprised Anna had another adventure for her, but she really wasn't. And after exploring Diagon Alley together, she was almost enthused for a pseudo-guided tour of Hogsmeade. She raised her eyebrows, her best attempt at faking apathy about the idea. "I don't know, Anna..." she started, reeeeally trying to seem disinterested.
She was terrible at this fake apathy, though.
Soon enough, Eulalia was leaning in to see the parchment for herself. "Something yellow?" She dug in her pocket, pulling out a pair of Hufflepuff-yellow mittens. But...she supposed if it was something she already had, that wasn't in the spirit of adventure. Instead, she glanced around the shop, looking for the slightest hint of yellow packaging. She pointed at the NO DUNGBOMBS sign. "Like that?" she looked back to her cousin for approval.

The bad at apathy thing must be genetic because she was bad at it too!
So while Anna did not entirely believe Little Lizard's act, she was quite good at going along with things and pretending so she played her part with wide cruppy eyes and a pouting lower lip while pressing her palms together and fingers pointing right up to the ceiling. She knew she wouldn't really have to beg her to participate, but the build up was part of the fun of an adventure. Sometimes you needed to nourish the anticipation, you know?
Lowering her center of gravity just a little so she could follow her cousin's indication more easily, her eyes brightened and smile widened. "Ding ding ding! We have uncovered our first clue!" she declared triumphantly as she proceeded to take long, exaggerated strides over towards the sign. "Dungs bombs. Hopefully you won't ever have one used on you ooooooooor accidentally have one go off in your hand...because it's pretty nasty. Okay, next clue is...to find something that sparkles and shines!"

Eulalia followed her cousin's long strides with several short, quick steps of her own. Being the youngest, she had quickly gotten used to walking quickly to keep up with longer legs. She wrinkled her nose at the idea of a dungbomb going off. It just sounded gross.
"Something that sparkles and shines?" The first year repeated. She looked around, then swung an arm around her cousin. "Isn't that just yoooou, Anna?" she said with all the sweetness an eleven-year-old could have. More seriously, she looked around the shop some more.
She gestured toward the windows. "Or is it the windows? I guess those are sparkling too."

Lucky for them both, they had pretty similar stride lengths since the fairies at Anna birth had not bestowed her with the gift of height. It was okay though, she already looked up to everyone anyway so now she could literally do so always. Well, unless she had a growth spurt which she supposed was going to happen at some point. Mum may keep a secret or two about things, but Anna would never call her a liar and especially not about something so important as womanhood!
"Eulalia Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaan," the third year giggled as she threw her arms around her little cousin and gave her the more endearing of squeezes that she could muster. This wasn't exactly the way she had imagined the scavenger hunt going, but there also weren't really any rules when it came to creative endeavors so whatever the Little Lizard made from it was what they would do with it. "Next stop...the windows!" she declared with another triumphant point and conquesting stride forward. "Next and final clue to the treasure...is to look for the mark of a beast upon it!"
There were plenty of Zonko products with creatures on them and Anna was very keen to see which it was that caught her little cousin's attention first. Would it be the Chinese Fortune Sticks or Frog Spawn Soap or... or or or or oooooooor....she couldn't wait! AND it would be her treat at the register.

Eulalia smiled as she endured Anna's squeeze. She hoped she could be as confident, sparkling, and exuberant as her cousin one day, but she didn't think it would be anytime soon. Still, she followed her cousin to the windows, grateful for what was becoming essentially a tour of Zonko's.
A pack of trick bubble gum caught her eye on the walk over, and she wondered if it was levitating bubble gum or the sort where the bubbles were fun shapes. She didn't have time to investigate, however, for soon she was being asked to look for...a beastly treasure?
Lally looked blankly at her cousin, then peered at the nearest display. There was some soap with frogs on it, but she didn't like frogs. They were too gooey. Lizards were much better, so she wandered further from the windows, looking for something (anything) with a lizard or a dragon on it. She hoped for a lizard, but soon began to worry she wouldn't find anything that was worth treasuring.
Finally, she stopped by the Nose-Biting Teacups. They did have lots of different designs, so she supposed she might find one with a beautiful, scaly design. One by one, she examined the teacups. There were plenty of floral designs, but she found one that had a menagerie of creatures displayed. Including..... (drumroll please) a salamander! Clearly she couldn't tell what kind of salamander, but if it was a fire dwelling one, it would keep the tea plenty warm. Not that she'd be drinking from it herself, she didn't want to get her nose nipped. Selecting the creature-covered Nose-Biting Teacup, she spun around to show it to her cousin.

The search was afoot! Anna wished that she had a nice pair of explorer's boots for the occasion, the sort that were covered in straps with plenty of golden buckles and a sensible heel. She wasn't sure what a sensible heel was...but she had heard mum say it from time to time so it must be elegant and powerful. Anyway! Anna was following her little cousin as she searched the shelves for the source of the sound of the object which called to her...
Standing literally on her tippy toes as she pranced about, the Hufflepuffle took a moment to take in the wares in this particular vicinity - for future play - but soon had her attention back on her Little Lizard. "You found it!" she exclaimed, her arms up in the air and waved them to and fro as a victory dance. "The long lost biting tea cup of the messager to the Snowy Owl Queen herself, Sir Haigha! With it at your table, every tea party will pack quite the bite!" she proclaimed as she extended her hands towards her to accept the teacup. "My treat. And we can grab a sweet on our way to the register too."

Emma wasn't normally the prankster, but there was something alluring as she made her way around Hogsmeade that afternoon. She didn't really know why or what it was that had her moving her her feet into Zonko's. The fourteen year old must have walked past this store many times in the past not thinking twice about entering, but in this moment her curiosity got the best of her.
Picking up the frog spawn soap, she raised an eyebrow perplexed about this. "Does this .... turn you into a frog?" she stared, speaking aloud to no one in particular.

A prankster, she was absolutely not. But sometimes it was nice to explore some of the shops she wouldn’t naturally, especially as they had spent so much time this term talking about the history of Hogsmeade in general. She hadn’t done a great job at creating her own little community in Professor Snout’s assignment, but she’d enjoyed hearing others ideas and then comparing to their own little beloved highland holiday. Zonko’s was when she’d heard the history of thrown around here and there, the tales of the epic pranks that had come from the Weasley twins original days before they began creating their own products. And it had made her, perhaps, a little bit curious.
Entering into the shop, she allowed the door to drift shut behind her as her feet carried her fully in and among all the unknown products. Tam glanced this way and that at the shelves, looking for anything of interest to examine (where would one find the OLDEST products?) when she heard a voice inquiring about a use. A… frog? Tam’s head turned and she spotted two of her sisters shared housemate, and gave her a small smile as she stepped closer. “That seems an odd prank.” She nearly asked who would want to do that, but then she paused, “You know… if that is the use. Maybe it could be used for a Princess and the Frog type of reenactment, if one timed it properly.”

Probably one of the reasons that Emma never really lurked in this shop is because she hated to be pranked herself, as she found most of the jokes rather repulsive. Though even she couldn't deny the allure of their creativity.
She hadn't actually been sure anyone was listening when she heard someone talking to her ? Glancing up from the frog soap, she vaguely recognized the girl from a couple lessons. "Wonder how long the transfiguration might last ... Although maybe not because aren't like, these jokes and pranks not always what they seem?"

Kiera only had so long before her mother tired of chatting with friends over their butterbeers at the Three Broomsticks before she realized her daughter was missing.
Gone.
She was gone. Missing was too strong of a word for what Kiera had done. She simply mumbled something half-convincing about visiting the loo to her mother and the other witches she had fallen into conversation with about who even cares what, and quickly rushed through the front door. She wasn't going to do anything bad, she never did. Usually.
The slight and spindly ten year-old darted around a rather large wizard with a heavy brown coat and had stopped under the awning of what she hoped was the joke shop. She'd love to her get hands on something to torment her neighbor Harry with. She rolled her grey eyes thinking of his last bad choice of dipping her braid into the inkwell. They'd see who was laughing next!
Convinced that she was clear of Elise's watchful sight, and after Kiera pulled her eyes from all of the older Hogwarts students running about, she slipped into the store. As her eyes adjusted to the dim light of the store compared to the bright autumn sunshine outside, she only gave herself a second to dwell on how much she envied those older boys and girls. Her mother and father only shook their heads when she had spent all summer writing letters to the school's Headmaster, the Board of Governors and anyone else she could catch the name of who was even related to the school--all in the efforts to see if they would let her come early.
But no, she would start next September. Hmpf!
She knew that she shouldn't complain so much but she just HAD to sometimes.
Looking around at all of the AMAZING toys, tricks and thingamabobs, Kier scampered off into the aisles, pieces of her blonde hair flying free from her braid as she went.
oh my gosh being called pixie again is SUCH a blast from the past for REAL

Winter was pretty fantastic. Winter meant the freedom to build epic snow forts and snowmen, race friends on sleds, having snowball fights, and the cold air tickling your cheeks and nose so much that it turned all rosy. There was also something rather special about how everything looked magical under a blanket of white and the addition of cozy nights by the fire with hot cocoa or chai were the perfect way to end a day of fun. Overall winter was pretty darn cool but...it certainly wasn't Nyle's favorite. Especially since that blanket of white meant that almost all the greenery and flora were just gone until the warmth of spring (his favorite season) revived them and with winter just around the corner it was time to take preemptive measures! He could practically smell the petrichor in the air!
Obviously not thinking his actions through and reaping the consequences of them now, Nyle pushed open the door to the nearest shop and held it open with his bum while he pivoted himself inside with his hands cupped in front of him to tenderly hold something. He had wanted to visit Zonko's, just maybe not with a handful of dirt with a half shriveled on the verge of death pair clematis flowers drooping over the front.
"Oh...bother," the blond mumbled under his breath as he lightly jogged in place to preoccupy his thoughts from dwelling on his serious lack of forethought - the irony. "Um...um...oh...um...a box...a can...oh anything really...um um um..." he mumbled further as he meandered forward looking at the shelves and floors for any stock boxes that the shopkeeper may have left out. "Um...excuse...um...pardon me but...well...you wouldn't happen to have seen any vacant little boxes or cans or anything of that sort, would you?" he inquired of a girl just around his age he came across during his fretting.

The shelves that lined aisle after aisle towered over Kier's head as she slunk from one to the other. They reminded her so much of the trees she loved to climb along the outskirts of her town back home or the cliffs of Dover that jutted above the sea, stark white against the storm grey sea below.
Her eye caught on fizzing whizbees, exploding gadgets, and finally on some rather innocent looking sweeties. Ah...Harry Armstrong would DEFINITELY fall for those! A mischievous grin spread on her face as she read the tantalizing effects on the brightly colored package of some puking pastilles.
Now that she had her revenge planned, she should probably start towards the checkout and slink back to her chair at her mum's table in the pub across the way before her absence was noticed. She had turned and had began to scamper along when a boy appeared in her path. A boy she begrudgingly had to admit to herself was not ugly. He was holding something though, and she stopped looking at his hair and turned her attention to his hands. Dirt. Why had he brought dirt into the store. Was it a trick??
"Hi, um...that's not one of their tricks is it? Trick dirt and....sad little flowers?" She didn't think that it was, because...how random? But you could never be sure.
Before he could answer, she began rummaging in her coat and jeans pockets for her "collection" bag. "You know, dirt and flowers are hard to collect if you aren't prepared. Did you find those somewhere out there?" She nodded towards the unlikely snow-covered road outside. She finally found the small moleskin pouch and dumped its contents (a feather from some type of small bird, a lose Gobstone, a small piece of a pine she found after they apparated into the village, and a few silver sickles and bronze knuts) into her other hand before catching his eye. "You have to have a 'stuff' bag. I collect random things to make collages sometimes," she shrugged. He probably thought that was weird but HE was the one holding dirt.
After shoving the stuff into her pants pocket, she quickly pulled the opening of the bag wide so he could dump his plant into it.

It was the bright red that had drawn him to this shop. Though Viano had been introduced to the village by his sister, Vesper, the day previous, he hadn't had enough time to explore them all. Today, however, he happened to be with a friend, and Feliks had readily agreed to accompany him to Zonko’s.
Once inside, Vi paused with an expression full of awe on his face. “Whatever I was expecting, it wasn’t this,’’ he told Feliks. “I wish I had a couple extra pairs of eyes so I can take in everything at once.” Because… wow! Who knew there were so many items that could be used for pranks? Not him, since Vi wasn’t a prankster. “Where do you want us to explore first, Feliks?”

This was so exciting! Getting to pal around with one of his new friends in Hogsmeade and explore a shop he had never been to was definitely the highlight of this boys day. What could be more fun that wandering around a prank shop?
"Whoa..." Feliks whistled low, his gaze trying to take in as much as he could all at once. "There's so much to look at," he nodded in agreement. How were they meant to look at it all in one afternoon? Was everything in this shop meant for pranks?! Because if so, they could have some real fun with this even if they stuck to the most simplest of jokes. "Maybe we should start right here and work our way through the shop? That way we don't miss anything?" Chances were high that they would miss a lot but that was okay. All that really mattered, was that Viano and him had a good time.

Obviously Feliks felt the same as Viano. “Right?” Vi remarked, still in so much awe. “We need a game plan. The only one I can think of right now is taking it aisle by aisle.” Maybe he would even find something to send back to Diego. It simply sucked that his best friend was stuck at home since he was too young to attend Hogwarts. On the bright side, Di would be here next year!
“Starting here works for me.” With that, the Gryffindor led the way to the indicated aisle. “How much do Dungbombs stink, anyway?” he asked as they walked. It hadn’t taken him long to learn the ways and the products of the British Wizarding world after moving to the country but he had never - fortunately - encountered a dungbomb. The signs that had been posted warning against the use of the objects had stirred up his curiosity.

It was that clear on his face, yes? "This is wicked!" He couldn't contain the excitement in his voice as he grinned widely at his friend. "Agreed. Going aisle by aisle makes the most sense." It was also the quickest way through the shop without skipping over anything. With all there was to look at he was bound to find something he wanted for himself.. or maybe something for his younger sister or cousins.
The young boy smiled at their agreed upon plan, following Viano down the first aisle. "Quite a lot. It can stink up an entire area for a bit." His nose crinkled up in disgust simply speaking about it! "Why? Do you want to get some?" Now consider him curious about his friends curiosity.

The young boy smiled at their agreed upon plan, following Viano down the first aisle. "Quite a lot. It can stink up an entire area for a bit." His nose crinkled up in disgust simply speaking about it! "Why? Do you want to get some?" Now consider him curious about his friends curiosity.
With that plan in mind, Viano was now merrily skipping through the aisle. He wished he had at least three extra pairs of eyes so he could take in everything at once. Too bad he would have to make do with his one pair. “Excellent,’’ Vi drawled in his Italian accent, eyes shining with mischief. “Might grab a couple to send to my best friend, just for the laugh.” He would demand that Diego give him a detailed description of his reaction to receiving the dungbombs.
“What about you? Anyone you want to send something to? Or prank up at school?” To match his eyes, Vi’s smile turned mischievous. “You know I’d help you with that.” He had a great sense of humour and enough sense to know to know not to take a prank too far. There was a pause as the Lion examined some Frog Spawn Soap. “Have you got a pranking product you like best, Fel?”

Feliks wasn't quite skipping but there was an excited spring in his step as he stuck by his friends side. Right?! Now, wouldn't that be something. Having three sets of eyes certainly would help them see everything the shop had and nothing would go overlooked. A grin and light laugh slipped past his lips. "As long as you're not sending them to me, have all the fun you want with that!" Dungbombs weren't something he would want to get sent his way for any reason.
"I was thinking about sending something to my sister.. or maybe my cousins." They were sure to get a laugh out of something harmless. Seeing the look on his buddy's face made his own grin widen. "Hmm.. I'm sure there's someone at school we could prank." Feliks stopped beside Viano. "What's that? Frog Spawning Soap? I've never heard of that one..." It sounded like it could be some innocent fun though. "Canary Creams are really cool.. well.. unless you're the one unexpecting it and panic I guess..." But being a bird sounded like fun to him.
