Are you here to spend some time with all your green friends? Maybe you’ll spot Professor June somewhere in there tending to her favourites. If she sees you - she would love to hand you a slug repellent to help de-slug the school cabbage patch. If not, then take a look around - the battle last term has done a number on the greenhouses but Professor June is slowly working to better them. She has even set up a lovely little corner with a bench in greenhouse one - maybe you’ll be inspired to do your Herbology homework there while watching the color changing roses, and enjoying the sun.

OOC: Here's a basic guide of what you might find in each greenhouse; please remember to play realistically based on your character's age and skill level!

Remy had to choose between what to bring with her on her travels through the grounds today, as she wanted a companion. Her stuffed pygmy puff would probably get scruffy outside, so she brought her talking toadstool instead. And what better place to bring it than the greenhouses?!

It was a gorgeous day and the smells coming from the greenhouses made her feel very relaxed.

She sat on the ground, near some color changing roses and watched them, perching her toadstool beside her. Remy thought about picking one of the roses and keeping it, but there was a good chance something would bite her hand off for trying that.

With textbook in hand, Lisa headed down to the Greenhouses to do some reading on several different types of wands and the history of wandmaking. She had originally grabbed the wrong book but settled for this one because she was also interested in this topic and needed more knowledge to set future self up for success.

Her meandering took her to the greenhouses which she found relatively peaceful as she walked around them. She couldn’t remember which one she was near but she did notice a friendly familiar face sitting on the ground near a bush of colour changing roses. Huh? She titled her head, wondering what her friend was up to... Knowing Remy, it would have been something fun.

Hey Remy! What’s up?” she asked, tucking her book underneath her arm.

The more she thought about it, the more she REALLY wanted to cut one of the roses and take it back to her dorm. She raised one eyebrow and tried to think about that one spell she read about that would possibly snip the flower from it's base. She had read about it, and figured if she was going to pick it, she might as well use it as an excuse to practice magic.

With her hand reaching for her wand in her robe pocket, Remy paused and looked up at someone who spoke her name. She was very pleased to see her friend, Lisa.

"Hi, Lisa." She beamed. "I was just, uhmmmmmm..." She paused, since she was potentially causing MISCHIEF. "I was just looking at these cool flowers. Isn't Herbology fun?" It was definitely one of her favourite classes so far.

Hey! Lisa was a Ravenclaw so she must be smart. "D'ya know that spell that slices things in half?" Cuts, slices, chops... Remy really couldn't remember.

The ummmmmmm raised Lisa’s mischief radar ever so slightly. She raised her eyebrows a little bit curious about the flowers that Remy was looking at. “They are very pretty. Do you think they’re poisonous?” she asked. She hoped not. She thought those flowers could look really pretty on a cake if they were edible.

Errr... so Herbology didn’t rock her world but she did like Herbology well... enough. Lisa had yet to find a class that she hadn’t enjoyed yet. Defense Against the Dark Arts could be scary but all in all was good to learn. She knew the first few years she had to be like a sponge and absorb as much knowledge she could from her classes. And then she’d have to go back to the dormitory to practice said spells so that she could always appear knowledgeable. Lisa preferred; however, looking like she did minimal work to others. “it is fun. I didn’t know plants could be so fun. Do you like it? is it your favourite?

Do you mean Diffindo?” she asked with a head tilt. “What are you planning to do? Cut up some plants for a snack or use them to pull a prank?

Ooh. This question caused for pause. Remy hadn't touched any of the flowers yet, and now she was thinking maybe it was a bad idea. "Hmm... I didn't bring my Herbology gloves," Which thinking about it now, was a dumb move. Always bring your dragonhide gloves when popping to the greenhouses. "I don't think they'd have poisonous plants in the greenhouses for anyone to get hold of... don't you think?" Remy made a mental note to quiz the Herbology professor when she saw her next about everything in these greenhouses. She was so interested.

To be honest, Remy enjoyed all of her classes, because she was quite an eager learner. Although she was very impatient about learning it all. Ideally she'd liked to be ready to graduate by the end of this term. "Yes, it's my favourite. And Charms is pretty fun. I think I'm pretty good at Charms." Probably her strongest subject so far. It was still early to tell what she really felt she excelled in.

"YES!" Remy almost shouted. "That's the one. Merlin, Ravenclaws are smart, aren't they?" She beamed, half joking. This was followed by a laugh at Lisa's ideas. "A snack? Why would I eat a rose as a snack? I could give it to my hamster as a snack, maybe." She trailed off, falling into her usual word vomit. "No, I just wanted to take one of the colour changing roses back to my dorm. Because..." She paused, "Well, dunno, I just want one."

"D'ya think I should try it?" Remy pulled out her wand and raised her eyebrows at Lisa.

Scarlett had been quietly working away in the greenhouse for longer than Remy was there. Contrary to popular belief, she COULD be stealthy quiet when she wanted to, mhm.

She wasn't eavesdropping, though, she was genuinely just working away with a few plant pots at the back because WELL, she knew her stuff. The perks of having a Herbologist for a grandmother.

She was happy to leave the girls to do their thing, but it was when she heard the name of the SEVERING Charm that she jumped up into view. "NO, WAIT!!!!!!!! NOT ON THE ROSES!!!!!!!!" SWEET MERLIN, THAT WOULD BE A CATASTROPHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coming out from behind the bench where she had been working from, the Hufflepuff rushed their way, dragonhide gloves on and wand in hand. "That one will chop 'em ALL OFF, it's be TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! TERRIBLE, I TELL YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" She was NOT being dramatic, it was for EMPHASIS!!!!!!!!!!

"For shorter, more gentle cutting and trimming you should use Flipnsnipwitit." She told them, nodding her head. NOT THE SEVERING CHARM, FOR MERLIN!!!!!!!!!!!! THEM POOR ROSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watson 05-17-2021 03:21 AM

Gloves would be handy. I have mine. Here,” she reached into her robe pockets and passed both to Remy. Lisa’s eyes followed Remy’s gaze to the flowers and she simply shrugged in response to the answer. “I don’t know. I did hear that they do have carnivorous plants in here but I’m unsure if they’d leave them out here for the unsuspecting ... unfortunate,” she gulped and then took a deep breath. She continued. “... Student to walk past, yes?” Perhaps there was a sign around here somewhere that would advise them.

Lisa enjoyed hearing about what subjects people liked. She was glad that Remy enjoyed both Herbology and Charms. One because it was awesome to see what people liked and two because it’d be helpful to know who would be good to study with. “*I’ll be coming to you to ask for help and questions then when I get stuck! ” Lisa would help her with other subjects if need be. Just not those two. It would be a mutually beneficial studying and pranking dynamic. What more could a girl want?

Yes, hearing that Ravenclaws were oh so smart fed into Lisa’s ego and the little Ravenclaw stood up straighter. Heh. She was oh so good. Heh. It was great to feel appreciated. Yes, it was...

She listened to Remy’s reason for cutting the rose and smiled. “It’ll make your side of the dormitory the prettiest! Do you think it could match the tapestries in your dorm? I’m assuming they are the same ferocious red as your tie?” Even if the flower was slightly lighter in hue, it’d still be pretty. The wheels in her brain kept turning as she thought more. “Well there is rose ice cream... so I assume it’s from roses unless they chemically make it somehow,” she mused. As for how to make it chemically? She had no idea but she had read that in one of the many books on food engineering and supply chain that her parents had. “I don’t even know how you would begin to make it in a potions lab or a Muggle lab... sounds difficult.

And Lisa was just about to encourage Remy to do the deed and SEVER the flower wheeen someone interrupted. Eyebrows raised, Lisa turned to stared at the interrupter. Oh. It was the girl from the kitchens. The bubbly and LOUD one. She couldn’t believe that she had met someone louder than V and Daniel fighting in Diagon Alley but, ladies and gents, it was possible. She tilted her head to the side as she heard a new spell to use. Had she said Flipnsnipwitit? Or flipasnipsnipsniptwit? “I’m sorry. What was that spell again? And what motion do you use?! Is it a flipasnipsnip?” she asked completely bamboozled.

She felt like it was a made up spell...The name itself seemed so riddikulus to be real, right? Oh boy did she not realize how wrong her thought process was

Emzily 05-17-2021 06:02 PM

Remy's face lit up as Lisa had brought her gloves with her. She was so great. "Thanks!" She took the gloves and popped them on, then wiggled her fingers above the roses before touching them. She was still scared to but ended up going for a gentle poke. "Exactly, if they were poisonous then there would be dead students here all the time." I mean, it wasn't uncommon for injuries at Hogwarts, that's for sure.

"Yeah, I'll help you with Charms any time." Remy replied confidently with a firm nod at the end. She was acting like a professional Charms thrower here when actually, all she had going for her was extreme confidence and determination. Remy giggled at Lisa's assumption about the Gryffindor common room. Oh, she WISHED that she could have Lisa as a dormmate. "Yes, it's very red in there, a bit golden, too. And we have a games corner as well, which is super fun. What's your common room like?" She wondered what would happen if they tried to sneak into each others common rooms....

Remy made a face when Lisa mentioned rose flavoured ice cream. That wasn't her cup of tea. The discussion had made the decision final. She WAS going to try and cut one of these roses off using magic. Remy cleared her throat and pointed her wand at the biggest colour changing rose, aaaaand.........

"DIF........."

Before Remy could show off her fantastic severing skills, she was interrupted by someone shouting NO. To say it made her jump was an understatement, her wand flew out of her hand and bounced off the ground. She paused and stared at it for a second, a bit like when you drop your iPhone face down on the floor, it startles you for a moment. Then she picked it back up slowly and examined it. Phew, not snapped. Now, WHO would interrupt her like that? Remy SCOWLED at the girl, who she soon recognised to be Scarlett, that annoying Hufflepuff. Her face softened a little as she remembered how kind and cute her brother was. Remy listened to her explanation and scrunched up her nose and eyebrows. "That's a made up spell." She decided.

"Why don't you show us?" If you're so CLEVER.

Hey Ju 05-17-2021 09:22 PM

"Flipnsnipwitit. And no, it's a swish." The Hufflepuff responded to the Ravenclaw as she approached the pair. "It's the Trimming Charm, but it's useful to take cuttings from more delicate plants." In Scarlett's point of VIEW, any plant that wasn't FLESH EATING was delicate, but that was technically UNTRUE and she knew it. STILL, that was the BEST spell to take cuttings ESPECIALLY as first years because WHO KNEW what sort of DAMAGE inexperienced first years could do to them poor PLANTS with the Severing Charm.

MERLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scarlett stepped up closer to the colour changing roses, held a stem and pointed her wand at it halfway down from the bloom. "Flipnsnipwitit." She swished her wand, cutting the stem off the main plant and holding it for them to see. "You won't get too far in life with that attitude, you know." She casually added to the Gryffindor girl.

JUST SAYIN'.

Watson 05-18-2021 03:39 AM

Lisa nodded at Remy's logic. Exactly, if they were poisonous there would be more dead students. "Perhaps they just all get badly injured and Healer Poppy helps them....?" she suggested before pausing for a moment. Hnmm.. She'd have to ask Remy her thoughts about the Healer later as the conversation moved to Charms.

Wow. Remy seemed like a true Charming professional witch! It was impressive. Her confidence was that of Serena's had been towards Potions. Lisa, herself, hoped one day to have that much confidence and expertise over an academic subject. It seemed like quite a feat. She also felt green with envy at the thought that another one of her friends was naturally good at something that she wasn't.... "Thanks," she nodded, appreciating the offer. She smiled at the description of the Gryffindor Common Room. It sounded VIBRANT and EXCITING. "The Ravenclaw Common Room is really pretty...." Like her, of course. "Beautiful windows. You feel like a true princess or warrior princess living there." And of course, she was a warrior princess.

Huh. Interesting name for the spell. This Ravenclaw had her doubts. She raised her eyebrows at the Hufflepuff but made no move to stop her or intervene. She was rather intrigued to see what Scarlett did. She had only seen her whack poor Atlas or lose points in class so this.... would be intriguing. She took a step away from Scarlett, looking at Remy to do the same, just in case the made up spell backfired. But oh yes. Lisa certainly agreed with Remy. The spell did sound like it was made up. Then the girl stepped up to Remy's challenge which caused Lisa to just nod appreciatively at the Hufflepuff's insight.

"Nice... So a diffindo would kill all the roses?" she asked curiously to no one in particular as she drafted up theories in her mind. She snapped back into the conversation when she heard the rude comment that the Hufflepuff made to her friend (Remy). She narrowed her eyes at the Hufflepuff's rudeness. She was sure that Remy could stand up for herself but she wasn't going to let anyone talk to her friend's like. Still Lisa would be polite. Didn't want to upset too too many people yet. She had promised her parents to be on her best behaviour after all....

"That's NOT nice to say that about MY friend. My friend is allowed to have an opinion." Lisa folded her arms and then paused, changing her thought process. "Flip the sitch. If you had heard a peculiarly named spell, wouldn't you also be a little hesitant or would you jump right into using it? In fact, it did sound made up to me too but we didn't know that it would work but it did"

Pause.

"So thanks."

Emzily 05-18-2021 11:50 AM

Remy nodded and shrugged. That probably was the reason a healer was required at Hogwarts. Going to a magic school was bound to have its dangers and risks no matter how well behaved you were, and she wasn't exactly well behaved. "Cool, I wish I could hang out there." At any of the common rooms. "I wonder if the Dungeons are as gross as they sound." Remy imagined it being damp, dark and cold. She hadn't thought about heading down there so far. Maybe Lisa had visited.

It still sounded like a made up spell, but Remy listened to Scarlett's explanation about what it did. Perhaps it was lucky that she had shown up before Remy severed anything important. "Huh." She said quietly as Scarlett snipped the rose off its stem. Impres----

O_____O

ATTITUDE? WHAT ATTITUDE? THE AUDACITY.

She was the one who had interrupted some perfectly good spell casting, Remy had the whole situation under control. The lion could feel her brain about to pop with rage. "You're the one with a smartypants attitude." She was not happy that Scarlett was able to perform the spell with so much ease. It must have been an easy spell, meaning Remy HAD to prove herself. She cleared her throat and pointed her wand at another rose.

"Flipperswittet." Since she was NOT going to ask Scarlett to repeat the incantation. Nothing happened..... surprise.

Remy could feel her cheeks getting hot with embarrassment. "Well... whatever, I didn't really want a rose anyway." She let out a HUFF and picked up her Talking Toadstool as a comfort.

Hey Ju 05-18-2021 08:42 PM

"It wouldn't KILL them exactly, but it could cause SERIOUS damage." Like, PROPER SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scarlett had seen her FAIR SHARE of mutilated plants and it WASN'T a pretty sight. Poor THINGS.

Now, for the next minute or so of word vomit things those two girls were saying, Scarlett seemingly switched off because she couldn't be bothered. She quickly scanned the greenhouse to consider what her next job would be before turning to the two of them again.

There were a LOOOOOOOOOOOOAD of things Scarlett could've replied to them, as yes, sure, the Gryffindor was entitled to her opinion and Scarlett was entitled to pointing out FACTS, for instance, and why, YES, this Hufflepuff WOULD jump right into experimenting with a new spell no matter how silly it sounded - in fact, the sillier the better! - but she chose to stay quiet because EH, the effort.

Not worth it.

"You're welcome!" She happily replied to the Ravenclaw when the girl thanked her, and she looked at the Gryffindor when she tried and failed at the spell. She could tell her the right incantation, but the girl was still on her high little horse and Scarlett didn't have time to deal with that. "Here." She said, giving her the bloom she was holding before pocketing her wand. "I don't want it." She added, predicting the girl would throw a little prideful tantrum and not accept it. Again, Scarlett didn't fancy dealing with that.

AAAND her work there was done. She had more to do elsewhere! "Bye!" And off she skipped.

Watson 05-22-2021 03:05 AM

"You should come visit. OH!" BIG GASP and little arm flail from the excited Ravenclaw. "Maybe we can visit each other's dorms." It was a brilliant idea. And then they could go to the Hufflepuff dorm! Maybe Daniel or Mamie would let them explore! Hehehe. Lisa beamed at Remy. "Well we could ASK my sister or V to sneak us into the dorms. Or Alfie! I'm sure the three of them would help us get in so we could see the dorm," she said confidently. She didn't know that for sure but they could certainly ask those three to help them. She figured they would probably be the most willing to help them out. Then again... Maybe Claudine could help her... Hmmmm... Luckily they DID have options.

Lisa eyed the Hufflepuff student that had joined them and slowly just nodded. Alright. It was good intel to learn. Flipnsnipwitit... Flipnsnipwitit.... Flipnsnipwitit.... Flipnsnipwitit... Flipnsnipwitit

However, all that intel went out of her head by the time SCARLETT WAS RUDE TO HER FRIEND. AND THEN THE OTHER GIRL HAD THE AUDACITY TO WALK AWAY! :whaa:

HOW RUDE!

Lisa crossed her arms and then turned to Remy who had huffed. "I wouldn't worry about that Flipnsniptwit! She's just... rude." Maybe Hufflepuffs were just rude? She didn't find Daniel particularly rude - perhaps a little oblivious and yeah... but.... Maybe it was a trait? But Mamie wasn't like that. Hmph. Lisa hadn't cracked the code on Hufflepuffs yet.

A smirk crossed her lips as she eyed the flower that Scarlett had left with them. "Do you want it or... do we set it on fire?" she smirked.

"But anyway - I'm hungry! Let's go find some ice cream. Yeah?"

Emzily 05-22-2021 07:31 AM

wrapping up <3

OMG - they were onto a grand idea here. The great common room break in. Remy lowered her voice and brought her pointer finger to her lips. "Let's carry on this conversation somewhere a little more private." Meaning, in a place where sneaky Hufflepuffs don't jump out and show off their magic abilities.

UGH. Scarlett was walking away. GOOD, but also... UGH.

Remy rolled her eyes and let the rose drop onto the ground. "Nah, I don't want it anymore." She shrugged and cleared her throat, like the whole situation hadn't made any impact on her. Although it HAD bruised her ego quite a bit, especially because Scarlett had just outshined her on a simple charm.

"Good idea. Let's go." Remy stood up, holstering her wand and gathering her Talking Toadstool in her arms, leaving the poor colour changing rose alone on the floor.
