Post Video: David Yates talks deleted Ron & Hermione Deathly Hallows: Part I scene

David Yates spoke to MTV about a deleted scene shot for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I involving an intimate and tender moment between Ron and Hermione while the trio were on the run, which, thankfully, will make the DVD extras, out next year.

Quote:
‪"There are a couple of things that we've lost that just didn't quite survive," he said. "I did this wonderful scene between Hermione and Ron. I wanted to explore their relationship a little bit more, so when Ron leaves it really breaks your heart.

‪"There was a scene we shot up in Scotland; it's a scene where Ron is showing Hermione how to throw a stone on a lake, how to spin a stone on the lake, and Hermione is being really girly about it. She's got a really rubbish throw, and she has to insist that Ron show her how to spin the stone to sort of entice tactility and physical contact, and it's a really funny, tender and moving scene," Yates described. "They're both very funny in it, but it ended up on the DVD because the overall tone of our film, as you know, is quite intense."

‪"The DVD extras, I would guess there is about 10 or 12 or 15 extra minutes," Yates revealed.

I'm telling ya - what I'm kind of starting to "hate" are all of these "shippers" who are so obsessed with Ron and Hermione and think the whole movie should be about them. Well . . . it's not, and neither is the book - not by a longshot.

I havent seen anyone say anything about the whole movie should be about them. They are simply talking about one aspect they really like and in this particular case about a scene that was deleted.

OMG! I wish they kept that scene in there. I'm so happy that they're putting a lot of extras on the DVD though!

That's not the point, not even NEAR the point. The point is that I think there is a rather vocal group of fans out there, myself proudly included, who are aggravated, disappointed, and flat out HURT by the fact that scenes that should be considered vital and pivotal to the overall arc that covers the seven books are being removed from the films, and being replaced by scenes of no consequence, scenes that bear no fruit involving the plot, or scenes that make no sense in the context of the films OR the storyline.

gosh, i wish Yates had kept the R&Hr scene in. because i watched the film with someone that hadn't seen any previous movies, nor read the books, and my friend wondered what hermione even saw in Ron? he wasn't upset that ron left at all, other than abandoning his friends when they needed him. yates and co., had time to explore the R&Hr relationship, but they put the harry/hermione relationship in front of it.

Aw! that would've been awesome to see!
Maybe they could have replace that with the dance scene in the camp?

Glad we will see it in the DVD but I feel they should of kept scenes like that and cut the hermione/Harry dance scene.

Just read the rest of the replies. Seems a lot of people agree that the hermione/Ron. Scenes should of taken the place of Harry/hermione scenes

How people who haven't read the books can interpret the story as jk has meant it to be confuses me
