Video: David Yates talks deleted Ron & Hermione Deathly Hallows: Part I scene

David Yates spoke to MTV about a deleted scene shot for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I involving an intimate and tender moment between Ron and Hermione while the trio were on the run, which, thankfully, will make the DVD extras, out next year.

‪"There are a couple of things that we've lost that just didn't quite survive," he said. "I did this wonderful scene between Hermione and Ron. I wanted to explore their relationship a little bit more, so when Ron leaves it really breaks your heart.

‪"There was a scene we shot up in Scotland; it's a scene where Ron is showing Hermione how to throw a stone on a lake, how to spin a stone on the lake, and Hermione is being really girly about it. She's got a really rubbish throw, and she has to insist that Ron show her how to spin the stone to sort of entice tactility and physical contact, and it's a really funny, tender and moving scene," Yates described. "They're both very funny in it, but it ended up on the DVD because the overall tone of our film, as you know, is quite intense."

‪"The DVD extras, I would guess there is about 10 or 12 or 15 extra minutes," Yates revealed.

Aww,that sucks! But I guess they already had the Harry and Hermione scene...so that was enought tenderness in one movie! = )

IMAndyDrew 11-23-2010 08:20 AM

I wanted to see more of the Wedding, Grimmauld Place, Rita Skeeter's Book, & the Extended Version of Hermione being tortured in Malfoy Manor.

silverarrowgriffin 11-23-2010 08:21 AM

i want a lot of deleted scene...anyone knows when the Part 1 dvd is coming out?

r+h4ever1 11-23-2010 09:16 AM

So we got an awkward Harry and Hermione dance scene over this one? Hmm. Glad we get to see it on the DVD though. Rupert and Emma have wonderful chemistry, and both of their performances in this one are phenomenal.

Shannon :hello:

ShiningStar 11-23-2010 09:17 AM

That explains that one pic that was circulating a few weeks before the movie came out where it looks like Ron and Hermione are picking up rocks!
They could include the dance with Harry and Hermione for lightness but delete one with Ron and Hermione ( who ACTUALLY become a couple) that has lightness? Grr.

Well at least it will be on the dvd!! Can't wait to see it

My guess is sometime in March. I seem to remember when the movies are released in the theater in November, the dvd comes out around mid March.

Emilay 11-23-2010 09:33 AM

First of all lets start off with how much I loved the movie. However, I am so, so, so upset I could cry at any moment, cutting a Romione scene is a big no! I totally agree with you Shining Star "They could include the dance with Harry and Hermione for lightness but delete one with Ron and Hermione"!

So when David Yates says "but it ended up on the DVD" does that mean it will be in the movie on the DVD or just as a deleted scene?

bonnieginnyfan1 11-23-2010 09:34 AM

Why couldn't the get rid of the Harry and Hermione dance scene? I hated that so much. What would happen to Harry and Hermione when Ron left? We know what happened. It's in the book what happens. JK Rowling's ideas!

R-Luchy~W*7*PG~ 11-23-2010 09:53 AM

That makes me quite disappointed.. But at least I can see that scene on the DVD.

ollie 11-23-2010 10:10 AM

What a hypocrite!
He can find time for that stupid H/Hr dance scene to supposedly "lighten the mood" but he can't put in a great R/Hr scene.
I have lost all respect for the man.

PS He ruined H/G in OotP, HBP and DH, as well!

r33nbluebottle 11-23-2010 11:34 AM

I wanna buy the DVDs as early as possible!

kwanyamapee 11-23-2010 11:47 AM

yay can't wait for DVD Hermione and Ron ><

TelleRonlover 11-23-2010 12:57 PM

i have to say i was annoyed that some of the scenes i wanted to have in the movie were cut out or not made into it, the wedding we didnt see it! we saw the party but that was about it, and mad eye i wanted them to do the toast or something for him i thought that was kind of cold that they didnt really do anything and i wanted them to show more of hermione with her parents.

Canoir Greengrass 11-23-2010 01:10 PM

Why couldn't he added it on the movie? It'd definitely satisfied us instead the H/Hr dance

Ron_Hermione 11-23-2010 02:02 PM

But the deleted scene is from Haryy Potter I or II?

Yates why you didn't include it?¬¬

aprilwardd 11-23-2010 02:54 PM

Yates should of kept this scene in! I love Ron and Hermione's relationship!

RonaldX 11-23-2010 03:15 PM

isnt this obvious?? yates wanted to create silent shipper war among harry potter fans..
for this moment, im forgetting that im an hp fan, and being a critic i must say that daniel has acted very "un harrily" in DH.. and more of the credit goes to yates for making him do things which are not like harry potter at all.. i dun know why he always kills the spirit of the film.. :(

Vargaroth 11-23-2010 03:25 PM

He is just dragging out the Ron/Hermione thing which is unfortuante at this juncture but what can you do? I do hope they add the deleted scene to the movie on DVD so that we can see it in its entirety along with other deleted stuff.

purebloodprincess87 11-23-2010 04:12 PM

awww that sounds sweet. Can't wait for the dvd

I highly disagree. I think that Dan has got the essence of Harry spot-on.

As for the Ron and Hermione scene? I don't know, I'd have to see. However, not being a "shipper" in the least (I don't particularly care for either of the romances - I'm more of an action person), I will have to say that I've always thought that strictly from an actorly standpoint - Dan and Emma have much better on-screen chemistry than Rupert and Emma. That's why I think they left in the dance. (also face it - even if you're hooked up with someone else, if you're on the road for weeks at a time alone with one person, not knowing if you're going to live to see the next day, well - in real life, Harry and Hermione would have been comforting each other a bit more)

That's a bit odd because there really wasn't any Hermione and her parents in the book, so how could you possibly complain on the one good thing that has been added?

That's the fun of books, it stimulates your own imagination rather than seeing it on a screen!

...

15 minutes! Oh boy I really have to buy it! When will the DVD come out?

Wonderstruck 11-23-2010 04:52 PM

Ooh, 15 minutes of deleted scenes!! That'll be fun to watch!! I am assuming that the DVD would come out some time in between the first and second part, correct?

boushh 11-23-2010 04:54 PM

I'm just hoping that those 10-15 minutes actually do end up on the DVD.

I'm not upset at stuff being cut out because there is more to film making than what we as fans may or may not want to see. If the scene didn't work with the tone or the pacing of the film at the point where the scene should fall then I can see why they would cut it.

Zezy 11-23-2010 05:22 PM

Happy :) to know that I'm not the only one who's not that interested in H/Hr dance scene. <_<
Rupert might be so shy and quite, but he's a good actor and he and Emma do have a good chemistry. I think, H/Hr in the film have more romantic time than they are in the book.

Is Yates a H/Hr shipper?? I know it's silly to think about it.. :upside:

Lezleighd 11-23-2010 05:53 PM

How exciting!!!! The DVD will be amazing! I just love the scenes in DH. I think Yates and his crew did a great job. Many Kudos!
