Universal Parks & Resorts might possibly have a new Harry Potter-based ride in the works, and could be heading to the original hope of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resorts.
Universal City Studios, a subsidiary of NBC Universal, recently applied for a patent for a new “Video Game Ride,” described as a "wizard-themed game" where guests can compete with each other or even work together to accomplish tasks by using character wands to score points in “puzzle rooms” where “the actions that the players take within each scene or puzzle change the environment and allow different paths to be activated or different physical effects to take place,” according to the patent.
While it sounds similar to the
Men in Black Alien Attack ride that currently resides in Universal Studios Florida, or the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disneyland in California, where guests shoot at targets, the technology for this new ride would take into account they player’s movements.
The patent states, “If the wand motion is associated with a particular spell that is an effective spell for the game, the player's score may be updated to indicate a successful 'freezing spell' or other spell has been cast."

Additionally, the ride appears to adapt based on the age of the player. “If a family with small children is participating in the ride, the game may receive input on the player ages to select appropriate game environments.”
Do note that nothing has been confirmed by Universal Parks & Resorts or Universal Orlando Resorts, and for now should be taken with a grain of salt. However, many early reveals for both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley in Flordia came about because of patents and contracts filed by Universal.
For now, fans can sign up for the fourth annual
A Celebration of Harry Potter, set to take place at Universal Orlando Resorts from January 27-29, 2017.
