| | The J.K.Rowling Story: Part 1
All this week The Daily Mirror are running Harry Potter related articles in celebration of the release of ' Half-Blood Prince'. Today they've printed ' The J.K.Rowling Story: Part1'. It includes quotes from the author and pictures of her from different stages in her life - including shots of her with her ex-husband. Quote:
Joanne recalls: "I was the epitome of a bookish child, short and squat, thick National Health glasses, living in a world of daydreams."
Quote:
One teen love rival still holds a grudge, saying: "She wasn't a warm, girly-girl kind of person. She stole my boyfriend - and when you're 14, it all seems very important."
Quote:
When she was 15 and studying for her O-levels Joanne suffered a devastating blow when mum Anne was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
She says: "It was a terrible shock to hear that she had an incurable illness - the worst thing to happen in your teenage years."
Despite her distress, good A-level results - As in English, French and a B in German - along with her position as head girl should have won her a place at Oxford University.
But she just missed out - with many of her teachers believing the comprehensive school pupil was a victim of class prejudice.
Quote:
On December 30 1990 her world fell apart with the death of her mother.
She says: "It was a terrible time. I remember feeling as though there was a paving slab pressing down upon my chest."
The rest of the story, which we all know pretty well by now, can be read here.
Pictures of Jo that were featured in the article can be viewed here and here.
Additionally, the newspaper, in conjunction with Tesco supermarket, is giving away 1000 copies of 'Half-Blood Prince'. To win a copy all you have to do is complete the following sentence, "' Half-Blood Prince' will be the _____ book in the series." To find out how to enter the competition, go here.
Tommorow they will run a feature called 'The secret world of J.K.Rowling'.

My friend's been a victim of the same thing. She had equal grades and social background to this other girl who got in and she didn't. The only difference was that the other girl had a father who went to Oxford. Bah, but judging on what my friends said (who spent a weekend there doing interviews) it's not a nice place to be if you've not got the money or status.
The story, as it always does, brought tears to my eyes.

Any of those ivy league colleges you really need to have connections or be some genius...but connections are *very* helpful and important.
It is sad, but I admire her for all her hard work, and just going for what she wanted.

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

Wow! That's one hell of a lot of way she has come through to become the more than beloved woman she is now.
To be perfectly honest, I knew most of the story in the article, but I didn't know he actually used to beat her!! |

I wish I could get that strength Jo has had in her life...surly an inspiration to studious students such as myself...who right now is not able to enjoy her birthday because of college admission blues.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jeremy Bradford Fifth Year | "It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not." That is so sad about her mom. Nice that they're running articles and all. She must feel so proud of herself though from all that she's accomplished with her writing career. I mean I know I would. I hope to one day be able to write a series that has an effect on people like hers did.

| I'm so proud of Jo for what she's done with her life. I mean she's come out of troubled times to live the most amazing life and now has someone who she loves and beautiful children. She totally deserves the best for bringing the magical bespectacled boy into our lives. Go Jo!!!

I was once a victim of such prejudice- being spit on (my possesions), having been pushed on in the halls and down the stairs- nearly every period by a some small percentage of classmates I had classes with years ago, when I first started secondary school. It was one of the worst experience I've had while in school, I assure you. But perhaps....that may not prejudice at all, nothing but merely a simple form of bullying, or being bullied. Being prejudiced, bullied- all the same, they're just the worst forms of human trait.
Being famous from writing a good story with good morals and other things after going through years of such terrible things, I reckon people who knew her must be proud of her accomplishments. As for those who have such prejudiced her in the past....who knows what are they thinking of her right now- perhaps still unforgiving, like this one: Quote:
One teen love rival still holds a grudge, saying: "She wasn't a warm, girly-girl kind of person. She stole my boyfriend - and when you're 14, it all seems very important."
Or perhaps have regrets.
But sometimes, one person might not even know that they're stealing someone else's boyfriend. I know I wouldn't know if I did not know that the boy is already in a relationship. If I do, however, I would not think of such a thing, even if I do like him. Hmph, I know don't have any experience in that, except for the part about not butting into an already built relationship. I still long for one, however.
Blah, I'm rambling on too much. All this stuff about Rowling is not new, but it is a nice refreshment, since it does now include the views of people who atleast knew something about her. Also, I wish Rowling an early Happy Birthday!
