| | | The invisibility cloak remains fictional
Over a year ago, SnitchSeeker reported that physicist John Pendry was working with a team of scientists to create an invisible cloak, or rather, something like a shield to turn a person invisible. The idea was to bend light around an object using “metamaterials”.
And they succeeded, at least to some extent. The team of scientists had high hopes after having concealed a small copper cylinder. However, it is a very different story when it comes to making humans invisible, for even if a person were to remain invisible under their cloak, or shield, this person would not be able to see the exterior of the cloak.
Unfortunately for those of you who were planning to use a cloak such as this one in order to steal a few cookies from the cookie jar, this won't happen anytime soon.

Einstein was terrified when he discovered the nuclear bomb... This story made me think of Einstein.
I think if the invisibility cloak will one day be created (by other means, perhaps in a very long time... I don't rule out the possibility), it would take quite a while before it was made public. Of course even an invisible person could be detected, with devices such as night vision goggles. I agree with you; this could so easily be abused, and in a culture where we have roughly 6 CCTV cameras per person (in the U.K.) the possibility of being watched by someone invisible makes the phrase "police state" seem inadequate. I think it's a bad idea.

| Sounds good, but dangerous too. There's flip sides to everything. It's kind of like the car in James Bond, Die Another Day I think. The one with Halle Berry in it anyway. |
