| | Sunday school with Harry Potter?
We've all heard about it; some people believe that Harry Potter is evil and a representation of witchcraft. Well if you were under the impression that all churches thought this way, you were wrong. According to the Morning News, Harry Potter entering Sunday School classes isn't an unrealistic idea. A new study guide by the name of Mixing it up with Harry Potter, written by Owen Smith, helps children deal with those massive issues such as death, sacrifice, loneliness, fear, mercy, and grief, whether in or out of church.
Smith was quoted saying this about the Harry Potter novels: Quote:
"The magic in the books is simply part of the magic that J. K. Rowling has created, in the same way that magic is part of the world of Christian writers such as C. S. Lewis," said Smith. "To say ... these books draw younger readers towards the occult seems to me both to malign J. K. Rowling and to vastly underestimate the ability of children and young people to separate the real from the imaginary."

Yeah, I'm a Christian, and I'm definitely obsessed with HP and SS. I don't know if I'd want to hear about HP in church, but that's still a cool idea. |

Hm... I already go to church but that would make me want to go without taking one of the books and being frowned at by some of the very christian people as I read it constantly!

Harry Potter is so full of values and perfect examples of everything good and evil, that it's like a text book on values and what should "not be done because that's what you get". Magic is just the dressing, like any faerie tale in the world.

| In Love with Touz | | Lil Mikky-Mu Very sensible. Actually, there's been quite a few members of the clergy that have expressed the same feelings. I remember an A&E special with a priest saying he found the themes of love, friendship and bravery very important.
It's a cool idea!

JKR obviously tries to teach values and make readers think about important issues. And whether someone believes in heaven, hell, whichcraft or Santa Clause has nothing to do with whether they read HP or not.
