i would expect that it was the first an original hp it sparked the whole trilogy n caused harry potter to be one of the best selling book trilogys. plus it was an awsome frigin movie

Awesome! I thinks it's success maybe due to the fact that all the hoopla about the FINAL book coming out has many people jumping to read the series in order. (cause you really need to read it in order)
I did like all the books but some more than others. SS really just sets up the entire storyline and introduces you into Harry's world so to me it wasn't my favorite but a good introduction to the series!
