A review for ' Driving Lessons', (Rupert Grint, Julie Walters) featured today in The Scotsman, highlights Grint's ability to pull off a character that isn't Ron Weasley. Quote:
The film follows the story of Ben, ably played by Rupert Grint, who takes up a summer job with retired actress Evie (Julie Walters) and finds himself learning all about life, love and poetry through camping trips and a visit to the Edinburgh Festival.

As Ben, Grint does just enough to suggest he's capable of shaking off the character of Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter films, for which he is best known.
There are a few moments when the shy, awkward teenager resembles the shy, awkward teenage wizard, but they are few and far between, and on the whole it is an excellent performance.

well, it is true isn't? i mean, rupert is now attacted to his character. he can't just step away from ron and be off doing some other movies...he will always have ron in him where ever he goes, it's just who he is.

I'm glad Reupert strayed away from his role of Ron Weasley for a bit to take on the role of Ben. The two characters are highly different, seemingly, and it's good for an actor to try different parts with equally different personalities.

I've just read an article in my local paper about Driving lessons, the person who wrote it are putting Julie Walters and Rupert Grint in the same old as Laural and Hardy and Robert Redford and Paul Newman in other words he is saying that they make a great double act.  | |
