' Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' came in at 2nd place in a poll involving the top ten books moms would choose for their children. Quote:
When more than 1,100 moms around the country were asked to weigh in on their top 10 book choices for children, they
favored the classics, giving credence to the adage that "in an ever changing world some things never change." The classic Charlotte's Web took the top spot over the newer Harry Potter, with another old favorite, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory coming in third.

I agree with all those choices and would include the "Little House of the Prairie" series. I own a set of all the top choices for my daughter (kid can't touch my HP books) for when she is old enough, (it'll be awhile, she's only two - but it's good to be prepared! )

I never really liked 'charlie'. Charlottes's Web I liked though. Quote:

Personally, I found 'Little House' nice, but I couldn't really get into it that much.

I like all of those books and plan to make sure they are all in my classroom library when I become a teacher. I definitely think HP is the best though! Like the others have said, there will be classroom copies for them to use (they can't touch my personal copies of the hp series).

I see their point. Charlotte's web is appropriate for all ages. Harry potter is not meant for a five year old.

HP should have been first! I mean, Chocolate Factory and Charlotte's Web were good and all... by HP is better by far, and the books can grow with the kids.

Little House on the Praire, Charlotte's web is appropriate for years 7-8 and younger, approximating. The Harry Potter series is a tad bit scary for those young folks, if you ask me, though I don't have any experience. Just assuming. The series is also complicated as well, so I guess it's more understandable for kids eight and up. These older ones are less likely to be frightened when reading and understand more.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jesse Salonen Seventh Year | My mom doesn't like Harry Potter very much. But then again, I never bothered to ask what kind of books she likes...(it's probably Shakespeare or something like that) |

I don't know... I agree that Potter's a bit scarier for the younger kids...
Honestly, I wish Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would've been higher. One of the best stories ever, though it could be considered odd and creepy with the right elements. Like the version Tim Burton was gonna do with Manson, which would've fit, had the mother's not complained. Oh well, I suppose Johnny Depp will make a good Wonka.
