Chris Eccleston, who starred as the Doctor in the newest series of
Doctor Who, has sensationally revealed that he is to quit after just one series, according to
The Daily Mirror and
CBBC Newsround. Hot favourites to replace him include two Potter stars.
Chris, 41, has refused to appear in the second series for fear of becoming typecast.
He had earlier hinted towards his departure, saying, "I might be the first Doctor to just appear in one series.
"It's been brilliant to make but it's hard work. It's a long time to be away from home. It's hard on anyone in a relationship.
"It would be great to have a 10th Doctor, then an 11th. The show will go on and on - it's not about me."
Hot favourites to replace him include
David Tennant (Barty Crouch Jnr) and
David Thewlis (Prof. Lupin).
Last night it was revealed that Scottish actor, David Tennant, had already been approached by the BBC.
Quote:
David, 31, admitted: "I've never made any secret that I'm a big fan of Doctor Who and it's the reason I got into acting. It would be a great role to play."
Dr. Who websites are apparently showing support for David Thewlis, the actor whom they'd like to be the next Timelord.
Other candidates for the role include Bill Nighy, David Warner, Ediie Izzard and Richard E Grant.
Billie Piper is expected to return as Rose, the Doctor's Assitant.
