Post Pirate copies of HBP seized

The Malay Mail reports that 13 copies of 'Half-Blood Prince', believed to be pirated, were seized from a shop in the Tesco hypermarket in Puchong yesterday.

Selangor DTCA director Abdul Rosik Yakub said the books were displayed openly on the shelves.

Quote:
Abdul Rosik said they would contact Pansing, the company in charge of distributing Harry Potter books in Malaysia and Singapore, to check on the authencity of the book.

“If the company’s representatives confirm that the books are bootleg versions, we will charge the store owner under the Copyright Act 1987,” he said.
Quote:
Acting on a tip-off, The Malay Mail visited the store and purchased a copy of the paperback, which bore certain similarities to the original, in terms of appearance.

When's the release date for them?

Okay, another question, I understand how people get pirated CDs and DVDs, all you need to do is record it, but how do you pirate a book? Scan it and print it off your computer? go to Kinkos and use the copiers? Sounds if they're doing that, and getting their money off it, that the books would be real expensive..............it's nuts.

Pirated books are SO SO SO common here in India. I read in the papers that just three days after the hard-cover of HBP was released, the pirated version was being sold on the roads at a much lower cost. The hard-cover original was 895 bucks or something and the pirated can be haggled down to 300 bucks.

Most people buy pirated books becuase they often can't afford the originals. For example, HBP in Indian currency was like 895 bucks and not everyone can afford that much for just a book. So they buy the pirated copy.

Wow, just goes to show you will be caught for stuff like that. I personally have never heard of a bootlegged book, only bootlegged movies. Lol. It just goes to show that people will do anything to get money.
