| | Participate in a HP survey!
Christopher Bell, a doctoral student at the University of Colorado, kindly requests participants for a Harry Potter survey to aid him in his research.
Chris writes: Quote:
This fall, I am conducting what I think is quite an interesting piece of research, and I am hoping your members would be inclined to help. I am currently conducting an online survey about the fans of Harry Potter. How many times they've read the books, how many times they've seen the films, how much time per week they spend on websites such as this, and so forth. It's basically a questionnaire about American consumption of Harry Potter merchandise. The survey is fairly short (less than ten minutes) and completely optional and anonymous. It is really important to note that the survey is being conducted only for fans aged 18 and older.
If any of your members would be willing to assist in this research, I would greatly appreciate it. They'd be contributing to the further study of J.K. Rowling's magnificent work as a part of our collective cultural framework.

Took me no more than 7 minutes. Fascinating questions.
"Reading Harry Potter novels has increased interest in witchcraft/occult"
You don't say.

The question was an opinion question. You were given an opportunity to either agree or disagree with the statement.
Obviously, you disagreed.
At any rate, the survey is now closed. I thought I'd need a week to get to the 1500 responses I needed for statistical significance. Turns out, I only needed a few hours.
Special thanks to Marcella Riddle and the whole Snitchseeker team for helping out! Thanks to all of you who participated as well! It was a rousing success!

I took it but the whole: "Has reading these books made you more interested in witch craft...blah..blah..blah" crap was annoying!
SO when will we see an outcome on this?

The "inspiring interest in witchcraft" part is integral. I can't say much more about it until the data is compiled, but believe me, it's really important. There are some conservative Christian scholars who are going to be sorely disappointed when I get done with my study, and that will make my whole day. |

That was an interesting survey. It definatly took me longer then i expected. 15 minutes. But it's kind of sad to try and actually calculate how long you actually spend on harry potter. but it's cool. It'd like to see what the end results are for this poll. See if we helped him out or not. |

I took it!!!
And now.......I feel like an idiot.....I can't believe I've spent over $106 on HP stuff in the last 12 months..........$25 was the book, $10 was the drinks at the party........so I guess it isn't too bad.....
The important thing is...........they were spread out so I didn't use most of a check in one day.

It was very well made and took me less than 10 minutes. DrLove, will you make the results public? I am very curious to see how things pan out.

I took it, and I realized something, with a few of those questions.
I am so uncaring, wether or not other people like HP. lol
I felt like the world's most uncaring person, when it came to
HP:
Niether agree or disagree for most of my answers. LOL

But I actually liked having the questions there because I hope it will prove once and for all that the radicals (who insist HP leads to devil worship and all that crap) are completely wrong.
Edit: Doh! I posted this before reading this post which is exactly what I was trying to say. Thanks Doc!

Ya, that irks me, too, and when i read the questions, i thought it was to prove that sort of thing. But, I answered them, anyways. But, I have addressed my opinion on wether HP influences Witchcraft or what-not in another topic: Potter Under Fire.
And, i thought I was incriminating myself, because I WAS interested in witchcraft LONG before HP even came out. lol didn't want it to sound like the only reason I got into it, was because of the witch/wizard factor...quite the opposite, because I HATE the Wizard of OZ. lol
