Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance (
Bridger of Spies) is rumored to take on the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming
Harry Potter series for HBO/Max, Variety is reporting.
The role of Dumbledore was portrayed by the late Sir Richard Harris and Sir Michael Gambon in the film series.
Rylance is reportedly in the mix to take on the role and have reached out to gauge interest, but Warner Bros. has yet to begin negotiation processes. Warner Bros. had this to say about the rumor and any future casting rumors.

The Harry Potter series is rumored to debut sometime in 2026-2027, with the possibility of the first two seasons dropping or filming back to back - Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.
