Days after news surfaced that Mads Mikkelsen would take over the role of Grindelwald in the
Fantastic Beasts series after Johnny Depp's departure, the Danish actor briefly discussed the rumors.
Speaking to IGN this week as part of promotion for his upcoming movie
Chaos Walking, Mikkelsen noted that he has yet to receive any official call or word from Warner Bros. about the casting.
Quote:
Mads Mikkelsen: "Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak. So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I'm waiting for that phone call."
It was reported that Mikkelsen was director David Yates' personal choice to play Grindelwald for the rest of the
Fantastic Beasts movies, including the third installment currently in production in the UK. Do note that Mikkelsen could simply be playing coy and does not want to officially confirm word yet, but this is still in the strong rumor category.
The third installment, out July 15, 2022, will be directed by David Yates, and will bring back the cast of the series including Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore along with Ezra Miller (Credence / Aurelius Dumbledore), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) and Jessica Williams as Professor Eulalie “Lally” Hicks.
